I think the GOP wants to reach Mom votes by making them worried the mean black kids will hurt their kids.
This is a 70’s - 80’s play book thing problem is its been 30 years most Moms know kids can get along.
Drudge and Rush would know this if they had kids/spawn.

I am going to bet that you were no paying attention at the time and were not listening to Democracy Now’s Amy Goodman who has reported extensively on Bishop. Your political consciousness seems to be evolving and at the time you were working down on Wall Street in the belly of the beast if I recall correctly.

They are still talking about some Black kid getting in a fight with a white kid and people cheered?
I got in a fight with a white kid in high school a junior after leaving the Principle’s office all the White Kids on Senior Hall stood and cheered.
Drudge and Rush don’t realize probably because I bet they never fought that its not race but rather its a popularity contest who gets the cheers in a fight after all over 20 years ago in Illinois a not that popular brown kid could get cheers from whites.
If anything race relations have gotten better not worse since then. Except of course in GOP minds.

I don’t put too much credence to labels. Bishop was opposed to the influence of corporations and oppression of the people of the Caribbean. Colonialism really worked over the people of the Caribbean and he was correct in his anti corporatism.

Obviously, the Cubans supported his any corporate agenda as did the USSR. So the NJM became fodder for the anti communism of Ronald Regan. That Regan went after him is almost evidence that Bishop was a good guy.

He was an eloquent speaker and I heard several of his speeches.

It’s not a matter of “approved” sources. I was noting that some portions of the piece were taken from a rag known to lean towards the right and militarism. Time is not known for its objectivity. Back in the 50s and 60s there was a saying, “Life, for people who can’t read. Time, for people who can’t think.”
