“He worries that his children’s generation “will be the first to inherit a diminished country.”

If he is so concerned about a diminished country why doesn’t he take his behind back to the home country and do something about the people there and the country?

Cause it is easy to be a wingnut when you have everything handed to you. He learned from his parents who had the typical attitudes of the rich toward the poor in Cuba and brought such attitudes to this country.

It won’t even take a pamphlet. You are supposed to have the dignity to die when you no longer have any money to donate to the billionaires to compensate them for putting up with your unbearable lack of socioeconomic status. That’s why this whole health care reform thing really must be stopped. Well, stopped right after the part where everyone is required to buy private insurance, anyway.

As it turns out, many political refugees come to America with a lot of wealth. I don’t live in an area with a lot of Cuban refugees, but we had an Iranian influx when the shah was going down and a lot of those people were getting out specifically because they had a lot of money and wanted to make sure they could get it out with them. Others came over after having lost everything or uncertain what they would be able to get out of the country, but not all of them.

I don’t know Rubios’ family history, but many of those who left Cuba in the days before Castro did come with much of their fortunes intact. Many of them settled in south Florida and along the Gulf Coast. But no worries, Rubio doesn’t stand a chance unless something really weird happens.

Forgive me, for I am a little confused. When Rubio’s parents fled Cuba did they bring great wealth with them? If not how did they manage to become billionaires. It would be very useful for the average American to know this secret. Personally, I have noticed that even if you follow all the rules - you know, study hard, work hard, prepare for your retirement, buy a house, raise a family and all the other advertised values, they suddenly change all the rules. Your 401k is too scary to even look at, you can’t sell your house to anyone, no matter how low the price, your savings go for health care. When all your other assets have been taken, you’re single and wind up in a nursing home they take your house. Would somebody much smarter than me please write a book (maybe even a pamphlet) to advise the citizens on how to avoid becoming poor, so that we might not become a drag on all the upstanding billionaires.

When George Bush said he was the president of the mores and the have mores, it was a bad joke by a scion of 150 years of Wall Street wealth, who cares about fewer people than Dick Cheney. Now, there’s a generation that thinks his perspective was a bright idea.

The idea clearly had been around a while, or George wouldn’t have said that.Reagan wasn’t too keen to have poor people (or students, or women) around, either. (Give you some idea of Bush’s views: people in West Texas were hesitant to vote for Reagan because he had a liberal running mate. My mother changed her voter registration because (a) she wouldn’t vote for Reagan, and (b) she didn’t think much of a guy who would change his publicly-stated views in order to get elected.)
