It’s been five months since the Iowa Supreme Court held that marital rights extend to same sex couples under the Iowa Constitution.

And in the wake of this highly publicized, and allegedly controversial, decision what is the opinion of most Iowans?

"Meh"

The overwhelming majority of Iowans – 92 percent – say gay marriage has brought no real change to their lives.

Eight percent are either gay or enjoy cake and punch. Living here the last 20 years, I can say the number of the latter is far lower than you’d think from visual evidence.

That’s not to say there are no people that oppose it, a sizable group do, but the plurality of people asked for their specific position either approve of the decision or truly do not care. But the fact that more than nine-tenths don’t feel it has affected them one bit is a good sign.
