I want Dr. Dean as head of the DNC. And I want him out there fighting for the truth. Obama made a mistake choosing Kaine as head of the party. If not, head of the DNC, then some other very visible role in this battle for the future of our country. Obama said he would choose the best for the jobs. When do we see the results of the best on the government payroll??

Something that keeps striking me as bizarre about this debate is what seems to be OK to spend money on and what isn’t. We’ll spend all sorts of money to keep people safe from terrorism. We’ll pay a whole lot of money for police and jails to keep us safe from crime and auto accidents. But paying for improving the health of people? That’s something government has no business doing.

Then there’s a willingness to subsidize health insurance with tax breaks and other incentives. Government providing health care financing, though, is just too expensive.

I can think of two black physicists off the top of my head, and note that I’m not a physicist:

Neil DeGrasse Tyson, hosts Nova Science Now and has written several popular books.

Sylvester James Gates, U of Maryland, a leading string theorist.

That’s as many living white physicists as I could name off the top of my head.

India produces a great many scientists. I suspect they qualify as brown.

Red? You mean indigenous Americans? I’m stumped there. Here’s a quote from the American Institute of Physics (from 2004):

In 2004, more than 42,000 PhDs were awarded in the US across all fields. Of them 135 were earned by Native Americans. The number of Native Americans earning PhDs increased 5-fold from 1975 to 1999. However, the number of PhDs has dropped by more than a third since.

I suspect that educational opportunities are less plentiful on reservations. Might be one reason.
