It’s been funny as hell watching Minnesota’s absentee governor getting into increasingly deep French kisses with the far right. The latest incident involves his attempt to jump on the FOX News “Let’s Slime ACORN!” bandwagon.
Seems he told the state government last Wednesday to stop all state funding to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). Less than two hours later, the state’s Management & Budget office informed him that Minnesota currently has no interaction with that organization — which is something you’d think a truly hands-on governor would know, especially as Pawlenty endorsed and signed an ACORN-composed anti-predatory-lending bill back in 2007. Guess he’s too busy holding fundraisers for guys like noted archconservative Bible-banging Virginia pottymouth Bob “fucking” McDonnell.
Really, though – we know that FOX News is beloved of the Republican base, but Smilin’ Tim ought to think twice before hitching his wagon to Glenn Beck’s sinking star. Not only was a key part of the Beck-Hannity promoted ACORN smear just exposed as bogus, but Beck himself is an acolyte of W. Cleon Skousen, a far-right whackaloon so nutty and anti-Semitic (he held that Jewish bankers were behind Bolshevism) that most movement conservatives repudiated him decades ago.
Does T-Paw really want to be TIG-welded to these people? Does he really think they can make him president in 2012? Silly T-Paw.

ACORN has got to go!
Actually, exposing Pawlenty for the sham moderate that he professes to be, is probably the best thing that could have happened for liberal Progressives.
Too many weepublicans market themselves as mainstream politicians, while being the exact opposite in reality.
Why the Democratic leadership and/or their spokespersons never points this out is baffling.
PW – I think there are a lot of folks in the GOP who are grabbing onto what they see is the last life raft leaving town, which is the totally off the edge, bat s**t crazy people who are scared out of their wits that someone is taking something away from them. Bill Moyers recently talked about how the US is the only rich nation that does not see universal healthcare as a means to social justice – Moyers’ mistake is that he believes that a driving philosophy of this country IS social justice. For the folks who are crouching at Glen Beck’s feet, ’social justice’ is a dirty word.
I seem to recall that this is exactly what Mitt Romney tried, he spent the run-up to the primary embracing wignuttery more and more. That worked out so well for him.
The truth, though, is that Tim Pawlenty is now showing his true nature. He’s been play-acting as a reasonable republican for the past six years, although his legislative actions have always shown how much of a teabagger he’s always been.
And of course “Honest” Bobby Jindal had to jump on the bandwagon too – he also signed an executive order stripping ACORN from any state funds, only to be told by his budget office that ACORN doesn’t get any state money.
I am new to all this and would like to know how I can help with the health care reform in Arkansas. I saw the segment on rachel maddow last night and would like to help. I’ve written Mike Ross twice in support of the public option but he keeps trying to convince me that I don’t want it.
Agreed, puppethead. Romney was just posturing, he’d pretend to believe anything to get more votes, but he can’t even fool the ignorant rubes in the right wing into believing him. Pawlenty is one of them, and they know it. He will do wall among the base. Fortunately for the rest of us, the base is shrinking, but still alarmingly large.
This guy,” Tim P.” is a joke. He,s not the sharpest knife, in the rack is he? I saw him on msnbc.
From what I’ve read, ACORN’s budget is mostly non government money. If they don’t get any government money, they should be free to pursue their own aganda without politicians meddling in their affairs.
In any case, has anyone investigated what kind of things church groups are doing in minority communities? I mean, a lot of them do fine work, but I’m sure a lot of them are involved in racist activities, and there are plenty of documented abuses, like anti abortion groups forcing kids to give up their kids to adoption, which they make money off. These groups receive tax subsidies and probably need to be much better regulated.
Since little Timmy hasn’t got Lassie any more, what can he be getting from the relationship? Minnesota isn’t as Frank Zappa said in the 60’s, so their just aren’t as many loons to whack. So what did Lassie say Timmy? What is it girl? Is it the money? or do you want to join a group that makes you look sane? Since he lost that chance some time back, maybe he just freaked out in minnnnnnnneeeeeesota sota sota sota, and has to leave like Larry “bigfoot” Craig did. Suddenly.
Nice to know you’re so afraid of brown and poor people. Make sure not to miss Max Blumenthal’s Book Salon later today. He’ll be talking about your authoritarian friends.
ACORN’s going nowhere but bigger and better.
Yeah, that’s a good question. Then again, if the sclm was doing its job, they wouldn’t have to.
Political coffee mugs must’ve been clattering onto Democratic and Republican tabletops all over Minnesnowta yesterday when Jim Ramstad announced on MPR that the door was open a crack to him running for guv. Interrrrrrresting. Independent? Hmmmm. Even more interrrrrrrresting…..
Even more more interesting was listening to the head of Mayo talk to the National Press Club yesterday during MPR’s Midday. Making sense, cutting through the clutter and spin to deal realistically with issues. Yeah, despite one Muttonhead PCA at Mayo, I do think that Mayo is the way medicine should be done.
Both these are worth listening to if you haven’t heard ‘em.
For the folks crouching at Drecko’s feet, dirty is too big a word.
I learned a long time ago don’t get mad get even. I think it is long past time to go after churches tax exempt status.
I’m with Rude. If they’re gonna ban federal funding for ACORN, let ‘em do it for Catholic Charities, too.
For Repubs, this is so true and why they’re going Galt over ACORN so much. Repubs know if the public gets engaged and organized in the democratic process, the modern-day Repub mindset will become extinct.
Remember all the derision toward community organizing during the Repub convention last year? Repubs are terrified of this growing political force, especially when it involves brown people, who collectively will become the majority in America in the near future. Buh-bye Repubs. I hope to live long enough to this transformation really take hold.
Folks who think for themselves scare the livin’ shit out of authoritarians. They just won’t march in lockstep for moronic ideology and the one thing Rethugs can’t stand is someone who asks questions.
Welcome !
so many good folks from Arkansas showed up in last night’s ‘Jane on Maddow’ thread –
I’m sure a donation to the AR fight would be welcomed
calling Lincoln and Ross’s office (DC and AR) is always a good thing (check out Slinkerwink’s DKos diaries, she provides a ’script’ for the tongue tied among us)
Letters to the Editor do have an impact
how about hooking up with your County/State Dems ? several across the country are demanding these representatives act like Dems (eg MT, NC) the Mike Ross’s of this world ignore them at their peril
just a few suggestions for ya
ACORN is nothing more then an extenton of the Democratic party….Good thing they were giving advice to the pimp and prostitute….Even your own Dems have thrown them under the bus….
Welcome to the Lake and don’t be a stranger. You’ve got lots of support here.
as always Phoenix Woman – gotta go, sorry I will miss your thread X~o
I read that Skousen pc the other day as well – scary mutha…
Trust me, they will cut the catholic churches once they catch them on tape giving such wonderful advice…..
Did you read Jane’s piece about this from yesterday?
It includes a link to donate for the ads next week in Arkansas, and from there you could write Ross another e-mail encouraging him to donate!
In response to vmuamma. Keep at it with your Congressman and Blanche Lincoln. If you can get up several names on a letter to them that would be good. Letters to the editor get noticed. Let your local Democratic Party know you will not support Blue Dogs. I am not sure how but I think we should hold the news media’s feet to the fire to show the polls.
The majority of Americans still want at least a public option and 66% of physicians do. Maybe I am just watching more closely but it seems this campaign is the most blatant example of the President and the Congress proceeding against the wishes of the majority of the people I have seen in years. The only thing more precious than votes is big money. It has to be the corporate money.
Do Congress or the President any longer really have to power to promote the people’s welfare and wishes?
Let’s make the correct distinction here, shall we? To use the label of the vice chair of FL ACORN, these “boneheads” plus those who were caught by ACORN submitting false voter registration cards in 2008 were fired by ACORN and do not represent the organization as a whole. Every large organization, including corporations, hires people who turn out to be idiots and ACORN is no exception. To paint the whole organization based on the actions of a few individuals is foolish at best and at least dishonest.
Tim Pawlenty may decide on a run for the White House. It will be interesting to hear him explain how he can govern the country when he allowed the infrastructure of his state to deteriorate to the point where a bridge fell into the Mississippi River!
Foolish and dishonest rhetoric?
That’s the wingnut way!
If we’re going to ban organizations for fraud, let’s ban the Republican Party.
Wells Fargo foreclosed a multi million dollar property from a couple that had lost everything they had in the Madoff ponzi scheme. A WF VP turned it into a party house. The government should pull everything it has of our money from Wells Fargo.
Maybe they should look at the entire organization…How do you allow Dale Rathke the brother of ACORN founder Wade Rathke to embezzle nearly a million and don’t prosecute?
Funny, how none of the other news outlets reported the ACORN scandal and now they have no other choice but to do so…I think that is funny as hell..no wonder their numbers suck…..
This woman’s partying cost her her lucrative job at WF. WF is also in trouble in Baltimore for its directing folks of colour eligible for prime rate loans into subprime loans. Unlike ACORN, WF’s management is at the heart of this scandal, not just the loan dept people.
No differant then ACORN pushing the CRA to lending agencies..trust me there is more then enough blame to go wround from republicians to democrats…I’ll be the honest broker and admit that….
Fox Newz is nothing more than extension of the Repub party. A long time producer at Pox was recently arrested with thousands of pictures of child porn on his computer, many with adults having sex children as young as 5.
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/a…..news1.html
10 years earlier, this same guy was busted for the same thing, yet Pox hires him anyway.
One of the main “faces of Pox,” and what a face it is, sexually harasses his intern repeatedly and boasts about cheating on his pregnant wife while in Italy, and discusses his love of using vibrators on himself.
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/a…..kris1.html
Any decent Repub should denounce this organization known as Fox Newz and sever all ties with these people who hire and promote known sexual offenders, who in turn are allowed to spread their sick thoughts upon electorate, day after day, year after year.
Just think if we started a campaign to dig up dirt on their thousands of employees! Imagine how many “johns,” actual prostitutes, child molesters, and so on we’d find within the Fox Newz organization.
Of course, maybe we just realize that large organizations are going to have a few unsavory characters within them, and we chose to be more productive with our short times on this Earth. Especially true with ACORN, who has probably hundreds of thousands of more people employed or as volunteers than Fox Newz does.
New York Times, 9 Jul 2008
All I can say is if you don’t like the way it was handled, too bad. The feds didn’t seem to have a problem with it.
The problem is my tax dollars don’t go to fox news….
Wha?!?
So when all those priests were admitting to decades of sexually abusing young children, and still more are being found out about to this day, with the Catholic Church leadership admitting to aggressive cover-up of these horric crimes for decades, the “funding” was cut and the tax breaks were eliminated.
Huh. Guess I missed that story…
Credible link other than Faux News, please.
Yea..you miss the point, your boys at MSNBC and the other MSM were more then willing to cover those stories but nothing when it came to the lovely ACORN group…Peace
Purchasing any product advertised on Faux News, whether you saw it there or not, puts money in the pockets of News Corpse aka Rupert Murdoch.
No differant then GE owning NBC/MSNBC and I’m sure they are on the up and up….
Hey stick…..what poll numbers are you looking at?
Perplexing how a state as great as Minnesota can spawn such diverse intellects as Al Franken, Tim Pawmental and Michelle Bugface. Has anyone investigated if there’s an east of/west of Mississippi correlation?
Try to stick with us here. I know you can do it if you try hard enough.
There’s a point that’s been made that any large organization is going to have a certain percentage of nasty people within it. For instance, we know Blackwater of whatever it’s called now, and many of the big military contracting companies have all sorts of criminals in their employ. These companies get incredible amounts more of “taxpayer dollars” than ACORN has ever received.
Using your “logic” we’d have to stop government contracts to practically every contractor the US government uses, and also government itself since there are many known criminals at many levels.
Perhaps you’d like that, but I happen to think the US Constitution is one of the best organizing documents created, so I’d like to work within those parameters. I’ve been to many countries that are close to pure anarchy. You could move to some of those places if you’d like.
I’m afraid of people doing illegal things no matter their color.
A lot of us Dems are concerned to.
In the end it will be the progressives that will not matter…just as they do not matter right now.
I’m with you, stop all the criminal activity..the problem is nobody is willing to do that once they get into office..They talk a great game but once inside forget about it….
That’s flat-out false.
How about VPOTUS and public policy czars like KKKarl.
Ok, you have to name them for me…
I love the way people use the phrase, “I’m afraid of….” What’s living in fear like? Doesn’t sound like much fun to me.
You said on Christy’s thread you don’t agree with many progressive ideas. You’re a conservative Democrat? Why are you a Democrat?
OK…..I’m concerned. Is that better?
I’m in VA, I’m willing to bet it is going to be an eye opener when Mr. Deeds loses this Nov…..The other day in his debate he was asked if he was an Obama Dem his response was, I’m a Deeds Democract……
Becasue the majority of Dems are not progressive….
Because who in their right mind would be a Republican?
You people need to realize all democrats are not progressives…far from it.
Hey, they’re your fears, not mine. Call ‘em what you want.
Just as bad. Maybe worse.
Be prepared to lose the oil…..
All hail the authoritarian. *spit*
There you go with that “you people” bullshit again.
Yo, bro
Howdy. . .
How’d yer tests turn out? I missed it if you’ve already written it.
I don’t “have to” do anything for you, but since I have about 1 more minute, and it took about 15 seconds to see a whole list of them, here’s the first one on the list of search results:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32909143/ns/politics/
Scroll down, and there are multiple examples of either MSNBC/NBC covering this non-story. Also, you realize many of the “stories” Repubs like to spew about ACORN corruption are only known because ACORN themselves reported those cases. They are one of the best organizations at policing itself. That’s the irony in the Conglomerate-owned, Repub controlled BigMedia, like MSNBC, making such a big deal out of nothing that effects hardly anyone in America.
Since you’re not responding to any of the central points I’ve been making, this is obviously not an honest discussion, so adios.
I’ve been dropping by FDL off and on for about four months now. After a while I noticed something rather strange. Some of the regulars such as cowardly lion, phoenix girl and red texan seemed so prolific with their posts. It was incredible. I started doing some calculations and lineal regression analysis. Even based on a very generous typing speed of say 80 words per minute I noticed some of you post so often you couldn’t possibly have time to eat or drink…or go to the bathroom even. Then it came to me. All this time I’ve not been communicating with real people. You’re all cyber people, the creation of a super computer located somewhere in North Korea with the goal of destabilizing political life here in the US.
Very cleaver you North Koreans dogs…but you never considered you’d run into someone as smart as me.
Nah, I didn’t. Totally clean bill of health and the “procedure” was no big deal. Kinda cool to see the inside of your bladder live on TV! From what I could gather it is not uncommon to have the symptoms but no underlying cause found.
thanks
Yea, they implanted a bug in my head during the year I spent on the DMZ 67-68. . .kasikia.
Yea, they had to cover after it was out there for more then a week?
Heh, talk about a meltdown. lol Well, there’s one more on my Totally Ignore list.
Will it be on YouTube? “g”
I bet there is one, I found one of the cataract emulsification they did of my lil cocker’s eye.
yep

Amazing. What wonders we have now. I’m still trying to understand how radio works. :)
Whoa, that’s freaky. Glad to hear everything’s ok.
Just heard on the 60s Show on WMNF that Marty Balin and the lead guitarist of the Starship are gonna be live in the studio just after 1ET for the hour. Listen Live link at top right. It’s recordable and is archived sometime later today.
Seeeee, it gots these rad thingies…
Is that Craig Chaquiço? I remember when he was considered a little kid! Bummer about Mary huh? . . .”don’t know when I’ll be back again. . .”
Yea, I don’t know why it didn’t bother me much. I guess I’ve had enough severe injuries to know that the pain doesn’t last. . .knock wood :)
I always think of “Puff, the Magic Dragon.” My kids loved it.
Jet Plane, the Great Mandela and Where Have all the flowers gone were especially important to me.
Something Aguilar, I missed it. Weren’t we all in love with Mary? IIRC, the first solid platform gunships were DC-3s and were called, at least by the sailors, Puff. Just another irony within an irony. Another stark reminder of our mortality. Yeah, I remember when Craig first touring with Starship. Youngest dude in the place.
The Flowers song always made me cry. Such a sad time.
The Spooky and Puff page
still is
We’d see them operating at night off in the distance. That long arc of red in a pitch black sky.
sho ’nuff
And that noise. . .sort of a grindy thing.
yeah, at extreme range when you could just see the arc it sounded like a bee hive.
Pissin’ death, we called it.
Gee, that’s what I thought I had till the tests came back!
LOL, itz not funny, LOL
You people!
Very cleaver you North Koreans dogs…but you never considered you’d run into someone as smart as me.
Intelligence is not something people who have it need to espouse.
barra nayyek
It really does not matter what we think, what matters to beck pawlenty and gov good hair of Tx is what faux spews says and what those captive sheeple who watch it think and believe. The pols have calculated that they need the “base” of the rethug party to win nomination. My guess is that they think that because they will be really nasty, they figure that any dem who runs will be unable to compete down in the mud because after all, if one pushes a dem hard enough what you find is a Mr Rogers clone. So they believe that the way to win in 10 and 12 is to pour slime on the dems pour so much that the dems will drown in it. The MSM is fully behind the thugs so they will never investigate any charge leveled by any thug. The indies will become so pissed that they will sit out the elections and the thugs will vote the graveyards to beat Obama, pushing racism every step of the way. The new dark ages are coming, one hopes that it will not be 400 years until the next resoration.
When I was in Vietnam in 1970 I worked on Puff and Shadow. Puff being the original, a C-47 modified with gatling guns. My understanding was that it was named Puff the magic dragon by the ground troops saved by it. Shadow support were AC-119 gunships. I flew some missions on them due to the fact that some electronics systems broke down a lot. The guys on the ground were always very happy to see us. I put a cassette recorder in the pilots mic line-at his request- and recorded a mission, from the initial brief to the end of the mission. We also flew some EW/EC 47s. EW for electronic warfare and EC for Electronic intercept. My base also had a couple of C-47s that we flew around SE asia as Sandblower Airlines. Taking guys to HK and Thailand for R&R. Talk about a long long time ago. Next thing ya know I’ll be starting all my stories with “Back in the day”
I also have been in many countries and used to think that the US and the constitution made for a great country. Ah well. Not so much anymore. Been to Singapore, the ROK, Japan and many other countries since I retired in 1998. I always feel sad when returning to US. Mostly because of the vast ignorance shown by the people here and of course watching the network news is a study in propaganda. While most people in every country I have been to speak english and the local country news tells their citizens about what is happening around the world and the kids actually go to school and learn things, people in the US-and every time I come back I am more struck by this-seem to know less, not only about the world but about the US, even about their own little slice of the country. Every time I return I am more struck by how much more shabby everything looks, about how self absorbed people are, about how little they know. Sure, we used to be the best, the most inovative, the most energetic. Not now, not after having been in Asia. China for one is changing so fast that I can’t keep up. Korea is far more modern that the US, Thailand has better hospitals-cheaper than the US also-as does Singapore and Korea. I spent 5 years in Korea back in the 70s.(back when they used water buffalo in the country for transportation) Went back in 2007. Everything has changed, gotten into the 21st century. Meanwhile, we seem stuck in the 80s. Its really a shame. Instead of going to other countries, now Drs and Dentists serve the poor in the US with free clinics set up just like they used to do in foreign countries. And yet people here think we have the best country in the world. (Big Sigh) our country crumbles around us, our students no longer learn enough in HS to jump into college without remedial classes, 1/3 of our HS students drop out before graduation. Our HS seems only to teach the “standardized test” that they have to take. We are, rather quickly, becoming the slums of the world. Every other country advances, we retreat. Every other country wants more trade, we start trade wars-so far Mexico, China and Canada-maybe a bit overblown but still. Looks to me like we are repeating the 30s where we tried to ignore the rest of the world.
Sure, our military is #1. But many of our weapons systems are either made in other countries or made by foreign firms in the US. I am encouraging my kids to simply move to Canada or Korea(they all have dual cit with Korea) rather than continue in the US. The slide down has started, I think it started back in the late 80s early 90s. Where it will end is unknown, but I believe that I will be dead before we hit the bottom.
It is very sad is it not, especially the disservice to our young, to narrow their minds is a crime against humanity
I used to just attribute this to growing older but now I know that is not the case. Life is 360 degrees not 12 as some would have it.
