Fearless leader Jane Hamsher appeared on the Rachel Maddow show tonight to discuss our challenge to Arkansas Democrats in Congress: support what your constituents want, or get challenged in the next primary.
A majority of voters, and a large majority of Arkansas Democrats, support a public plan. Yet their elected representatives, including Rep. Mike Ross and Senator Blanche Lincoln, seem more interested in their corporate donors than the folks they represent.
Tell Blanche Lincoln and Mike Ross to act like Democrats!
Help make it happen: Donate to ActBlue Arkansas Public Option now. And thank you.

About Firedoglake
Jane was fabulous as always.
Jane is my favorite talking head and it’s not because she’s pretty.
I just watched this on Rachel Maddow.Looks like this site is on the ball.Keep up the good work.I also think media matters is just about to call out Glenn Beck on alot of his unsafe comments. He is a nut.
Was an absolutely wonderful interview, Jane. Thank you.
wonderful!
Hey, I accept all kinds of soda, not just Coke. *s*
FANTASTIC!
BEST THING I’VE SEEN THIS WHOLE RATHER DEPRESSING WEEK!
THANK YOU! Jane
I’m gonna watch at 11 but my sis-in-law already told me jane was great
That was a great job. One of Jane’s best appearances.
and Lisa did a great job live blogging Teddy’s funeral
I think the “Blue Dog” democrats have been called out by the President. The point was made before both houses, that Health Care reform will cost less than the U.S. spent on the Iraq war, or the Bush tax cuts. If “Blue Dog” Legislators supported either of those without budgetary concerns, then they should support the full reform (public option & all). If we can find money to kill people, then we ought to be able to find money to help people. I’m embarrased by my Congressional Reps. from Arkansas. That’s why this “Yellow Dog” Democrat considers himself to be “a patch of Blue” in a big red state. Keep up the fight.
a patch of Blue
Thank you ES, you are always fighting the good fight down there so it’s the least we can do.
Just saw Jane on Rachelle Maddow. Great. New to this site but will continue to come here. This is great. I have been waiting for the Dems to kick some butt regarding these conservative dems.. Its long overdue.
Fabulous, Jane!
Clock is cleaned.
I have to smile when I see Jane just laying the smack to these mediocrities. Beautiful work.
Not so sure as you that O called out the Blue Dogs. More likely Rahm called them in to strategize on how to keep the progressive caucus in line—how little can they give away of the deals they cut with PHARMA, the hospitals, the ins. cos. etc. and get a bill passed.
It’s all about the benjamins and keeping the corpos and their money flowing to dems.
Remember how we used to talk about how much we hated Joe LiE? Well, much of our anger is now focused on Rahmbo.
Oh. and I bet he hates us just as much if not more. Jane & Co. are calling him out, How dare we?
ACTION! FINALLY! I gave $25.00 to air the ad. I challenge all readers to contribute. If 1,000 readers contribute $25 each that’s $25,000. Let’s show Jane we are grateful and admire her leadership in helping to create an opportunity to act. And let’s act now and change our world. PLEASE GIVE NOW.
THANK YOU JANE!
Seems we have lots of new people tonight. Welcome all.
It is not fair. Today BilloReilly is getting a “Media Courage Award”. All Jane got today was $30,053,and an appearance on MSNBC Rachel Show. Billo’s speech is closed to the press.
Now if we can just get these types of movements started on the other democrats that aren’t listening to their constituents. It is bad enough the republicans won’t listen to anyone.
It’s a great buy.. All AR Dems, Senators Pryor and Lincoln, Congressman Snyder, Ross, and Berry will have constituents who see this ad. And I am betting a huge portion of AR Dems have no idea they are in a silent borderline super majority of agreement on wanting a public option. Yet none of their elected ones are supporters.
Patience, grasshopper. It’s better to pluck them one at a time. Sets an example, you know.
Great work Jane. Clear and forceful.
Aggressive strategist, a great description.
Yay Jane! Yay Rachel! Two of my heroes met each other!
This was the best interview w/Jane. . .As I sit in a ruby ruby ruby red state namely IDAHO with a HOUNDOG OR BLUEDOG WHATEVER DOG HE IS (WALTER MINNICK) I was wondering if your research is going to include other states besides ARKANSAS so we can get these boogers who flew in on Barack Obama’s coattails to line up . . .? I felt very empowered after watching you on Rachel Maddow tonite . . .Thank you . ..
Yes! (you were great on Rachel tonight Jane) Let’s get started on my Senator Max Baucus–does he really think he can get re-elected without votes from constituents like me. And, by the way, there are a lot of us liberal Democrats here in Montana that are mad as hell and sick of blue dog politics. TARGET MAX! i will donate to that
Closed to the press? who does he think he is? a supreme court justice?
Jane makes us proud – just has all the facts and figures right there. Way to go !
I’m all for the nice sentiments being displayed here, but we need some “HELL YEAH!!!” type comments too! I’m afraid these righties have no concept of kindness or respect for those who don’t take for themselves. Just look at how they’re treating Pelosi after her heart-felt comments on the quieting of hate yesterday. Just another wuss Liberal in their eyes. They’re bullies, but ironically (and not surprisingly) cowards when confronted. They fear everything, remember? In any case, be strong Libs. Great commercial!!
This was so encouraging, empowering. Thanks!
Hey I admire your pro active approach to politics !
Progressive pressure is the only thing moving the debate forward on this thing . Only a few days ago the public option was pronounced dead now it seems without it Obama will not get a bill to sign .
The Progressive caucus shouldn’t roll over and play dead too easily , even with a supposed public option .
Make em grovel .
A warm welcome to all who’ve shown up here due to Jane’s appearance on Rachel’s show!
Excellent work as always, Jane.
Please help get the ad on the air next week in Arkansas, everyone.
OBOMBYA IS REALLY THE CRUX OF THIS PROBLEM. he really doesn’t want a reform of health insurance.
rahmbo is the de factor president of the usa. obombya’s handler. and rahmbo’s imperative is to continue enriching the insurance companies, pharma.
it is the domestic equivalent of persisting in the invasion of afghanistan, the perpetuation of the occupation of iraq, the continuing construction of military bases in colombia.
as i have said for a long time, this is the blackbush. a continuation of a fascist regime by the stealth of n********.
Mod note: **** Edited and released by mod.
Wow…. nicely done.
“medical industrial complex” especially nicely said. I only use that for “military” label but will incorporate into the vocab now.
hi Teddy!
welcome new people.
Yep, it is SO refreshing to hear someone credible discuss these subjects on TV.
so many of those assholes don’t remember RFK & MLK getting killed, Chicago Convention, Kent State, etc. They really don’t understand what it’s like when things get angry and people get violent.
I will match the next four $25 donations to FDL Action PAC to run the ad.
Please let me know in this thread that you’ve made a $25 donation, and I will match the first four donations, to a total of $100. We need to get this ad on the air.
Don’t forget to leave ActBlue a little tip when you donate, please. Their wonderful infrastructure makes efforts like this possible.
If we met on the street and you were wearing a sandwich board stating the grievously unfortunate nativist, racist drivel you are spouting, I would throw food at you.
But as it is, all I have is this shit-burger, and it would be a compliment. Besides, I would not want to anger the FDL mod.
What a stain.
as a former arkansas boy, i was so happy to see that ad. i intend to send it to all my arkansas family. i think the message that if you won’t support us, we will find someone to who will is a great message. i am going to propose it as a resolution at our next county committee here in Maine 02. its’ time for all blue dog and conservativadems to get the message that this is a game changer.
I’m not working :(
Debate team, youth group, 4 AP classes, family drama, and applying for college is almost too much without working. And that doesn’t even count friend time.
Yes, primary the SOB’s.
And if that fails, work to defeat them in the general.
Without step 2, step 1 may be too small a club.
Terrific interview Jane.
The argument these conservadems make, that they are only representing their constituents, really falls apart when their constituents are polled. People want the public option; it’s the Blue Cross Democrats who are standing athwart it.
Hi Kassie.
Which youth group are you going to?
Go Jane, go!
I live in northwest Arkansas, in the Dark Shadows of Wal-Mart. This is the most Republican part of the state, at least in terms of per capita party registrations. It’s hard to tell the Dems from the GOPs anywhere in Arkansas. Except in this college town where I live (Fayetteville) and parts of the state capital, Little Rock, it’s hard to find people who expect Dem politicians to behave like Dems.
I’m excited to hear of the ad campaign! You are doing a great service for all of us. I hope it does some good, although I pessimistic that either Ross or Lincoln will get back in line. Lincoln is running for re-election and is not polling well against any likely GOP challenger. Obama lost the state by nearly 20%, so she’s looking for every opportunity to run away from any association with him or his policy agenda–even if it makes sense to her. She’s a smart pol; she was a Hill aide for many years so she knows the policy, but she depends on the old-boy network to help her at election time.
Ross is almost impervious to criticism from the left, even though his district has among the highest rate of uninsured citizens in the country. People in SW Arkansas don’t get that there’s a connection between their lack of health care, their congressman, and his cozy relationship with the medical-industrial complex.
But if anything will shake things up, your ad is going to start it. Keep up the good work!
You’d like it! It’s UUYouth! I am an officer this year.
It would be great if HCAN’s ad was playing in tandem with the FDL ad. It would really drive it home more than anything else could.
Any way to work on that?
Seconded.
This morning NAVDOC3rdMAR posted this link. He sounds like a Marine. Those guys are tough. The amounts of cash given to anti-national health care corporatists seems accurate, but I have not checked for certain.
http://hmc-lavadogs.livejournal.com/20128.html
I thought you had started with them a while ago but didn’t know if you stuck with it. The YG at my church is awesome, one of the best in the district. We’ve only got about 200 members in the church, but the YG has 20-25 very active kids. It’s a great program with great leaders.
Yes. Keep plucking that chicken.
Once again, you nailed it Jane! Thank you so much!
It all started with Ned Lamont in CT going after JoeLIE in the primary in 2006. Ned was the first primary candidate that the FDL army mustered to work for. We managed to pull it off too—at least for the primary.’
No one, especially Rahmbo thought that the public wanted to hear an anti-war message. Well, the real dems in CT did and we proved it. That was a game changer for the whole party going into that election. All of a sudden after primary night in CT other dems started talking about the war. And it worked. The netroots got behind more winners than Rahm did. And most of ours turned out to be way better than any of his. Yes, we got burned by a few, but we learned a lot and now vet our candidates better.
Jane and Christy and Pach and the crew here got that ball rolling and it’s been rolling ever since.
As for Joe, he’s proven to everyone that he’s the schmuck we knew he was all along.
Just a little history for the newcomers.
It feels really good to see FDL stretching its legs like that again.
It is time for the Democrats to take control of their own members. Health Care reform is a seminal issue that must pass with a strong public option. Any Blue Dog resistance must be challenged.
Way to go Teddy. I am new to the site tonight. What a great place to hang w/fellow Lefties.
I see I am not the only famous Laker in the media this week.
Heya Mary. You and Ron and Jane and a whole bunch of people have done immeasurable service to this issue this week.
And welcome, adamleigh.
And thanks to you sir, for using the words members and seminal in the same comment. Sorry, it made me chuckle.
Thanks Newt. Hurray Jane!
been busy with my day job this week. Could you fill me in on a few details?
Some of us such as me are cruel, vicious, angry, ugly, crazy, awful, wild and intolerant. But mean would not describe us. The good people are discouraged from running for public office.
And “Edit” is your good friend!
I have been following Jane for months.. I think jane is FANTASTIC! i recently dumped Kos and Huff. I donated to FDL actblue tonight. One comment i read compelled me to do so. “a patch of blue” in a red state I am. “If we can find momey toKILL, we surely can find money to HEAL. I appreciate you Jane keep up the good work. Friends here. If Act blue can raise $400K in 48 hours for joe racist wilson apponant why cant we do the same with Jane?
Okay, that explains Scarborough, but where are the good people?
For those who missed Jane the first time around, she’ll be coming up on the toob soon. It’s always better to watch her in her life-sized beauty.
Ron and I were featured on Huffpo yesterday or the day before. It is all a blur now.
Have you been contacted by other news orgs since the HuffPo article ran?
I’m surprised he didn’t bring up the NetRoots primary takedown of his buddy Lieberman. Because the invasion and occupation of Iraq was such a sterling national security move.
Jane’s the one who started that ball rolling!
We also need to raise money for Marcy. I don’t think we quite made the goal and she’s worth her weight in gold.
way cool—the attention, that is.
The story is tragic.
Wasn’t it Marcy Kaptur who told her constituents to not let themselves be foreclosed on unless the bank can produce the paper trail? Maybe yours is one of the mortgages that got chopped up into bits.
Trying to look for a shred of hope there.
I just want to thank Jane … for tirelessly, single-handedly, and despite all the odds, doing the work that we thought we elected democrats??? to do. Without her, I’m sure the public option would be dead.
Jane, there are millions of us out here who agree with you. We are so sick of Rahm and his bullshit type politics. When we elect a democrat, we expect them to act like democrats. If the WH thinks Obama should sign a bill that remotely resembles that Baucus bill, they’ll look back at the 1994 mid-term elections and think those were the good ole days. What the WH fails to understand are the years of frustration the democrats have felt … ENOUGH is enough!!!! The PUBLIC OPTION is our waterloo, RAHM!!! (there wont be enough lobby-money in the world to get Democrats out to vote in 2010, we will be too disgusted, too de-motivated, too disullisioned, too fed up).
Yep, Inside Edition wanted us to go on their show but we declined. Too stressful and Ron’s isn’t feeling too well lately. They wanted to fly us to New York (maybe). I am a pretty reserved person outside of my own circle. Ron on the other hand is a wild man.
Rachel (repeated on the teevee) says FDL is a “well read liberal blog”. Who could have anticipated?
Maybe you’ll get some additional opportunities that don’t require travel. Regardless, your willingness to share your story is appreciated. Best to you and Ron and hope he feels better soon.
Congrats on continuing to take the fight to the media, Mary, you & Ron are my healthcare heroes.
Hey adamleigh – welcome to the Lake!
GREAT!!!!! Bring down the curtain on hypocrisy!
Wow, Jane Hamsher and Rachel Maddow are awesome!
I was hoping to see you together soon.
Here we have a double dose of honesty, truth, integrity, common sense intelligence with 2 awe-inspiring Liberals in the fight for justice and right human relations!
Welcome adamleigh and to all the other newcomers.
I just want to thank Jane … for tirelessly, single-handedly, and despite all the odds, doing the work that we thought we elected democrats??? to do. Without her, I’m sure the public option would be dead.
This is without a doubt 1000% true.
when some of us came here in the days when Jane was the lone writer on a blogspot blog I doubt that any of us could have anticipated what it has become. When she introduced RedHead to us as her legal expert to help us untangle and better understand what was happening with Plamegate things started on a roll and haven’t stopped.
OMFG!
This is one of the last comments on the Huffpo piece. I guess my hair is a little short.
“OPPOSITES ATTRACT?
I was drawn to this article because I saw the picture and thought it was my two older brothers. Then I began reading it and was amazed that two really unlucky people found each other and got married.
They must be incredibly narcissistic because they look alike, are both graphic artists, are both broke, are both willing to be exploited by the left wing media, and both have major health problems. A lack of government healthcare sounds like the least of their problems.
The World Health Organization says characteristics of narcissism include:
A sense of entitlement, sense of self-importance, and is often envious of others.”
What a weirdo. One other commenter said that Ron just wanted a divorce so he could screw around. Mostly the comments were good.
First time on this site saw Jane on Rachel Maddow, I fully support the public option and agree with Jane that Senator Lincoln and Congressman Ross must be held accountable for turning their backs on the Democratic party.
Great interview. It brought me to your site. Keep up the good work and I’ll be contributing when my hubby gets back to work.
Just saw Jane on Rachel — WOW!
“Medical-Industrial Complex” may be the single most effective phrase I’ve heard in years. We’ve got to make sure that this goes viral.
Don’t let the trolls get you down. You’ve got enough to deal with. So has your congrescritter gotten hold of you to see what he/she could do to help?
Mary, dont let the bastards get you down. You and Ron are doing a great public service. I hope you are able to accept what media invitations you feel strong enough to do.
So, what screen name is Dick Armey using now?
Bigeasy & TruthSeekerInCA – Welcome!
Lots of new pups recently.
Dan Lungren? I don’t think so. Biggest dick alive.
As an aside, I put the Baucus bill and the CBO commentary on my boss’s desk. Today when I was in his office I saw the CBO commentary half-read. On Monday I’ll see if I can corner him and ask him what he thinks, as one of the premier ear surgeons in the country.
Where you at, Bigeasy!
(That is like totally a new orleans thing to say.)
Hey Bigeasy – welcome to Firedoglake – jump in!
Lots of newbies to the Lake tonight. Who would have thought that political junkies would be watching Rachel on a Friday night? Us I guess.
Welcome to the Lake all. First thing on Sat. mornings we pull up a chair and do our serious non-political community building. That’s one of the things we love about the Lake. Come on back.
Big time.
Issa’s a dick, too, but Lungren has a stitch of brains, which makes him a dangerous dick.
TruthSeeker – great name – welcome to the Lake!
I was born and raised in New Orleans I’m a retired cop what better name to have. hahaha
Issa at least can smile. Lungren is humorless and heartless.
It was Rachel Maddow who first alerted me to FDL. Back when she had a daily radio show.
Great piece on Rachel’s show tonight, and a really hard-hitting spot. Hope it changes some minds.
I’m from Little Rock, but have lived in SW Ark the past 10 years. Info of interest from Arkansas’s 4th District: A GOP candidate has announced against Ross, Mark Rosson of Gillham. He is connected with LR Tire and Feed, a small local agri supply store.
Rosson, a failed ‘02 GOP candidate for House Dist. 21, makes Palin seem profound. The money guys were not impressed.
I handled PR for Scott Sullivan’s primary and general campaigns in ‘02, and generals in ‘04 and ‘06. Once Sullivan made a strong showing (3:2) in the ‘02 primary against Kirk Bell of Nashville (AR), Rosson basically stopped showing up. For ANYthing. Sullivan trounced him 5:1 in the general.
Rosson is no threat. Ross will be able to pluck (yes, PLuck) him like the proverbial chicken.
If we are to get Ross’s attention on health care (and to reconsider his vote against the energy bill), it MUST be through a credible challenger in the primary. LOTS of folks with no health insurance in AR-4 would like to talk to such a challenger.
Arkansas’s 4th covers a very large chunk of the state [29 cos.] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkansas%27s_4th_congressional_district), including the mountainous, forested west and southwest and Delta row-crop southeast) – a challenger has to be willing to literally ‘go the distance’ (see the Wiki map: how hard it is to get from A to B, with only one freeway (I-30) transecting the district).
Hope someone finds this information useful.
I’ll defer to your judgement. So who’s going to run against him this time? Anyone you can help boost (moral support for both of you)?
Ok. Here comes the high school question. Where did you go? I went to Riverdale.
Methinks I hear that Lake Pontchartrain whistle blow.
BTW, here is a nice satellite pic of Lake Pontchartrain. See how many egrets you can count…:-)
Hi, newbies! I recall when I first posted a comment here how my finger quivered a bit before it mashed the “Submit Comment” button. I was greeted with great kindness, and y’all will find the same. What else can I say other than FDL is my home page?
Thanks, and welcome to another newcomer (I believe).
ditto. jane’s the best smack in the world!
So nice to see new commentors brought in by Jane’s appearance on Rachel. Great job, Jane. Glad to hear you use “medical-industrial complex”!
We had a great candidate the last two times, Bill Durston. He is an e.r. doctor and is very progressive. He used to show up to Lungren’s town hall meetings but after a while wasn’t called on to ask questions.
I went to Warren Easton
I’m new to this site and what brought me here was Rachel Maddow’s show with Jane Hamsher. It was awesome. I’m so glad that these senators are being called out. Finally!
I’m thrilled that the Dems are fighting back. It’s about time. This is the first time I’ve heard of Jane and I’m so happy that she’s telling it like it is! You Go!
And I’m all for the public option or better yet, the single payer approach!
Newtonusr – you are correct. First-time poster. Hang out now and then at Atrios, but couldn’t resist posting with the info on Ross and AR-4.
Question – why are there no gravatars?
hubby loved that one: Medical Industrial Complex.
additional comment: Madoffization Medicine.
And then there’s this: the Blue Double Cross.
As are we all. Welcome to this place.
Issa is a piece of c*ap. It would be nice if both he and Lungren would spontaneously combust.
Ha! A Metairie dude. I grew up in Country Club Homes on Henican.
Oh wait. I’m sorry. Warren Easton is in Orleans Parish.
I’m in for $25 today. More tomorrow. Smack those sell out jerks!
I started tonight also after watching Rachel Maddow, Rachel has a large following and a lot of us are heading this way.
You don’t want to see me in avatar form. I promise.
Now marymccurnin in avatar – that’s a winner.
/s
Wowzer! That’s another one we should try to make better known. As a very small cog in the “Medical Industrial Complex” I think I’ll start tossing it around the office. I’ll bet it will catch on VERY quickly in docs’ offices…
Most helpful – thanks for the detail and welcome to the blog!
Go Jane!
Warren Easton is in New Orleans on Canal St.
Benvenuta Italiangirl!
I just remembered that. Oh well. I left in 1969. My brother, sister and parents are still there.
You familiar with New Orleans ??
It’s nice to be welcomed. I got into it with a reichwing coworker last week about an innocuous statement Obama made about higher education. He was ‘offended’ by my wanting to use it in a promo. As Atrios would say, “what could he really be reacting to? Thinking … thinking …
Evenin’ Ms egregious and Firedogs,
Welcome newcomers and a big wave to those of you reading along but not commenting.
oh my. props to Rachel for having the sense to let it rip – Jane I know so many casual democrats who needed to hear those words. clear, linear, sensible, and clarifying – plenty of progressives as well
ok, I also love the idea that somewhere weasels were watching and their cortisol levels spiked
‘zup dogs !
Lisa Derrick is upstairs!
Late Night: L’Shana Tovah! Happy New Year!
Yes. I miss it everyday and am glad I don’t live there. I go back once or twice a year.
We love folks who are able to bring new information! As far as your coworker, could it possibly have been something like “HOLY CRAP — DO YOU REALIZE HE’S A
N*****DEMOCRAT?” I work with several of them too!I was raised in a rough part of the city called the Irish Channel.
We’ve been Rachel boosters for years back when she was only on Air America Radio. It’s nice to see that we can trade off our boosterism.
Jane also shows up on Shuster and once in a while on Keith. But she gets some good air time on Rachel and hopefully lots more to come.
Marcy, however, had a bit of a pottymouth episode and Shuster probably won’t be allowed to have her back. His (and the viewing public’s) loss.
We love our Ladies of the Lake and here they can say whatever they damn well please.
I know the Irish Channel. I think parts of it have been gentrified.
Thanks for the welcome and Jane did an excellent job on Rachel Maddow thats what brought me here, I admired the campaign she is running and I fully support it.
Classic case – calling a blowjob a blowjob – in other words putting a truth to it – gets you whacked every time.
I hate gentrification.
night night all. Pick up after yourselves and leave the Lake all pretty and clean before you leave.
Is that a pun?
I’ve just had a compact little black and white cat tell me it’s time for me to get off the computer and be a cat mattress for her, so as a responsible cat staff I must obey. Welcome, welcome, welcome to all new commenters! Come back often — the more voices we have the stronger we become.
Now you tell me. I’ve been holding back.
Way to go Jane. Spot on analysis. It is NOT about just electing MORE Democrats (as Kos says) but about electing REAL Democrats, Democrats from the Democratic side of the Democratic party. Lots of Democrats are Democrats in Name Only (DINO’s) like Lieberman, Specter (44 years a Republican), and Happless Harry Reid. Great strategy: advertise and primary DINO’s. If Rahm yelps about this strategy, you know it’s effective!
The standard post at Atrios references ‘Blazing Saddles’ – “he’s a Ni-CLANG!!!”– kind of hard to do the ‘clang’ when you use the reference in conversation.
since when?
And now I really really have to close down for the night.
Think your talking about the Garden District thats in the Irish Channel.
moi?
Now that compact little black and white cat will be annoyed — you’re sending me off to bed giggling!
Grazie!
I feel at home here! :)
I’m a long-time lurker on FDL — I learn so much here. Jane, you were wonderful on Rachel’s show tonight. I am so happy that you had such a huge audience. The work you do is awesome and inspiring. Thank you!
In ‘10, there should be NO safe seats, R or D for those without progressive bona fides. We are seeing a major sea change, and O’Reilly and his ilk are fighting it tooth and nail. Too bad. Look at the Census 2050 projections. He and Rush will likely be put in the ground by someone whose last name is not “Smith” or “Jones”.
Nice to have you aboard, fflambeau!
Rush, O’Reilly, Glenn Beck, Michele Bachmann, Ann Coulter … how is it that these morons get any air time at all?
FFlambeau? Another New Orleanian? Cool.
Thanks, David. Man you really live in the belly of the beast! Glad to have you here.
Jane,
You were BRILLIANT and BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Thank you Jane! You are telling it like it is!! We the people want a public option where the insurance companies have no say and every citizen has good affordable health care!!
Very helpful. Thanks, Mark.
What a pleasure to have so many new positive voices in the lake tonight! Welcome all!
Hey, what’s that I smell… could it be a snowball effect?! Quick Jane, more airtime with this successful and attractive message please!
Holy Cow! Jane was awesome with Rachel tonight! You are on target with this one!
must change the system jane
changing politicans will not protect america from corp fascism
all must go in wash and rewrite consitution.
jefferson time in america
love seeing you on maddow show
this is america profits from the sick and needy
christianity died on the cross
JUST watched the Vid, damn.
Nice work Mz. Hamsher.
Way to take it to them.
You and Rachel worked it good@
Damn!
LOVED IT! *G*
Great ad, super commentary on Rachel’s show, Jane. You rock!
I just went over and tossed in my $50 for the Arkansas ad.
I wish I could suggest that you come after Ben Nelson in NE, but it’s hopeless, I’m afraid. No Dem can beat him in the primary, and if, through some act of divine intervention, Nelson was given the boot in the primary, the GOP in NE would swallow the hapless Dem replacement. Such is the nature of Red around here.
So . . . none of my campaign $$ are being spent in my home state; I’m picking and choosing among (mostly) ActBlue causes in other states. My vote rarely counts here, but at least I can make sure my $$ have some impact.
*G*
Love ya both.
*G*
A pure fuckwad, indeed, Mary, I’ve hated him for decades.
saw this on maddow. mad props, about time the non-corrupt dems stood up and pushed the corrupt ones out of office.
I was just watching T.R Reid’s talk on Flora.tv about his book and the questions.
I have a question for Jane and all of you.
Based on TR’s work and I have watched both of his reports on Frontline, I suggest you all watch them and I might pick up his book.
The Swiss have heavy duty regulation -
1) No Profit Insurance Companies
2) Have to pay within 5 days of a claim or next months premium is free
3) Drugs are heavily regulated and cheap
TR says the Insurance Companies are not going to agree to such regulation, though they have agreed to some (these deals that Obama has made that have upset the Left), so is the Public Option needed because the Greed can’t be stopped? Or is it the Congress won’t regulate their friends in the Insurance industry?
I happen to agree that Single Payer will happen on the State level first, like what happen in Canada.
So what that means we live in 2, maybe 3 or 4 “Americas”"
Both coast share similar values, we’ll get Single Payer first
The middle, slow learners they are might do it next.
The South, will have to get beyond Racism first before they do it and don’t think that’s its the “New South” and automatic….
So what is Jane and the rest of us really after?
Strong Regulation or Forcing Insurance Companies out of business?
Trust me I have no love for Insurance Companies of any stripe….
whole system must change
only massive protests in the streets will make that happen
wont be protests by liberals
too spineless
look at who represents the liberals
spineless to the core
even obama is proving to be another spineless demo
but hey I love the idea of a black in the white house
the southern racists have to be going nuts
it is evident from their signs and tea parties
the nut jobs are coming out of the woodwork.
John McCain inveighs against the Public Option, but I learned yesterday from ATC that Arizona actually has one of its own, and has had since the 80’s. After some bobbles, it sounds like it is working pretty well.
Jane is exactly right. We need to get rid of a lot of Blue Dogs. Start targeting them in 2010. Blanche Lincoln would be a very easy target.
More then Ed and Keith?
Nice work Jane! Rachel is the best because she lets you talk. We’re going to kick asses if these ladies have our backs! Now that’s what I call…BALLS!
Jane rocks.
We will. Simply because we’ll believe that any promises they make to us at election time are just so much kabuki. If you don’t keep your promises when you get elected you can’t expect people to come out and vote for you next time. It’s elementary political logic. When will they ever learn?
djfourmoney, I know you asked this question of Jane, but if I may I’d like to state my own view of it.
I think the insurance companies will fight legislation imposing heavy regulation every bit as hard as they will fight Medicare for All. So, from the point of view of someone who wants to bring overhead and profit costs in insurance down from roughly 30% to 2.5% over provider costs, there is no advantage of getting any less political resistance from them because we are proposing heavy regulation, rather than proposing Medicare for All, or a strong public option that will get us to that. Further, regulatory legislation is much more difficult for people to understand and get excited about than a bill like HR 676 which provides for enhanced Medicare for All.
Also, even if heavy regulation is passed, the industry will still have residual power that it will use to undermine regulation, and when the Republicans get in again, they will see to it that the grip of regulation on the industry is loosened. On the other hand, if we put the insurers out of the business, at least with respect to essential health care, their political influence will be largely gone and a great conservative influence in American Politics will be overcome. So, in my view, there is no advantage in trying to compromise with them even with heavy regulation as in the Swiss or Dutch models. For America, having them gone is the best solution to the problem.
In Jane’s replies to Rachel I began to see some targeting rules emerging for progressive action.
– Find Blue Dog Democrats who aren’t voting like Democrats who represent States and Districts with relatively inexpensive media markets.
– Determine whether they’re taking money from corporate interests.
– Determine whether, according to surveys, they are voting against the views of their constituents.
– Assess the likelihood that they can be beaten in a Democratic primary.
– Begin to run ads against them way before election time putting them on notice that if they don’t start representing their constituents they’re going to be primaried by a progessive Democrat in the next election.
I really like it!
It seems to me that Ross and Lincoln, using Obama as their example, feel quite comfortable accepting corporate cash even though it means betraying the people who put them into office.
Remember, Obama cut lucrative deals with BigPharma and the med.ins complex this summer, and stiffing the people who elected him is at the heart of the cynical plan.
While I am no fan of Rham, I think we need to keep in mind that he didn’t appoint himself chief of staff. The people Obama chooses to keep close to him and the decisions he makes reveal who he is and what he cares about.
As I watch him, I am experiencing considerable cognitive dissonance. The values he champions in his eloquent speeches are not realized in his actions.
Perhaps he should be challenged in a primary.
Soooo glad to hear that!
Great piece on Rachel! It’s about time someone (and from the south, no less!) light a fire under the conservadems — keep it up! I’d never heard of this site before last night, but I’ll be a regular reader now. Perhaps I can pick up some tips on how to get the message through to MY southern red state conservadem…
I think what we are going to have to do is replace Mike Ross, Blanche Lincoln and David Pryor. These three are sending out mailers to Arkansans asking us to campaign for Responsible Health Reform by going on there website http://www.responsiblehealthreform.com I visited their website wanting to ask them to support the public option but there is only one choice there and it is to oppose public option. What about the rest of us, the ones who want the public option, they don’t even want to hear from us.They are not listening to me, maybe they will when election time rolls around.
