Not a lot, but something. Here’s a policy change from the Bush Administration’s "manufactured reality" division that appears to be on the way out and good riddance:
Barack Obama has abandoned the US’s controversial plan to build a missile-defence system in Europe in one of the sharpest breaks yet with the policies of the Bush administration, according to reports from Washington today…
The decision will be framed by many on the right as "appeasement" (when don’t they pull out that cliche?), but a costly boondoggle is a costly boondoggle. Putting 10 silos in Poland and a big ass radar station in Czechoslovakia the Czech Republic will cost the U.S. taxpayer billions and accomplish nothing but a new political football for the east and west to squabble about — but which achieves nothing realistic.
So that may be one stupid, expensive, and irrational policy down. I hope Glenn Beck cries.

When does Glenn not cry?
The Lech and Jaroslaw Kaczynski tag team are in tears.
When he reads letters like this one.
The author is an 82-year-old former school teacher. I think she believes this is communication with the outside world from her Fox News cocoon — and that she is not a covert racist.
He might owe me a jag from back in 2001 when the Bushies started raising up all those old zombie programs. I think I cried at least once then.
Some folks may not know that Mary Travers from Peter Paul and Mary died yesterday.
Good morning, pups. It’s Ms. Collins and Mr. Cohen, since Mr. Kristof is off today. Ms. Collins, in “Someday, a Bill Will Pass,” says just when you begin to think that legislators are never going to be able to do anything, ever, here comes student loan reform, scampering down the aisle, wagging its hopeful tail. Mr. Cohen, in “How to Talk to Iran,” says the president is right to engage in talks with Iran. It is time Washington and its allies abandon “zero enrichment” as a goal and concentrate on how to exclude weaponization.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got Thomas’ English muffins with your favorite jam. I printed out the Baucus bill yesterday and left it on my boss’s desk. He’s just the sort of doc who’ll read the thing… I’ll report in if he has any comments. Have a great day.
All time high, and the theme songs of the hippy generation. I always will want her hair, also.
As to arming the earth and atmosphere; The crime family always wanted Star wars somewhere.
Well thank ya’ Jeebus! Something dumb, expensive and damn near worthless has been eliminated. And I agree, I hope Glenn Beck cries and pours gasoline on himself.

OT but you’ll love it –

We were all hoping for a smart president when we elected Obama. He’s been a disappointment when it comes to Afghanistan, but this is good.
oh, it would have achieved just the results wanted — billions of taxpayer dollars to the corporate pigs looting the u.s. treasury — along with the political benefactors.
And poking at Russia. BushCo got a real kick out of pissing them off. If I didn’t know better, I’d think they wanted to bring back the cold war (or worse).
Every big plan is like a used watch – ticking slowly and sometimes gets stuck :-D Great article Attaturk, vivat Obama :-)
I got an email from my cousin a few days ago begging us to stop Obama from doing this. Her husband is an engineer who works on missile defense. I just ignored it since she’s family and I didn’t want to say, that’s what he gets for choosing to earn his living on something immoral.
But at the time, I also considered saying, don’t worry Barack W. Obama likes to talk a good game, but I’m sure he’ll keep the spigot of tax money wide open to defense contractors.
I’m so glad to be wrong on this one.
It took 9 months to figure out that star wars 2 was a bloody waste of time and money……
Good morning! English muffins sound toasty this AM since we are at 48 degrees!
Well, according to one of Howie Carr’s guests yesterday in the first hour, he got direct information from Benjamin Netanyahu that by the end of this year there will be a war and Israel will be lobbing the bombs into Iran first:

Once I get the audio/video of the segment, I will post it.
Though there remains a small educated, ethical. moral enlightened few, the vast majority have been so dumbed down or completely sold out to the corporate masters that there is little hope of stopping the steady path to fascism.
The trajectory is perfectly clear. The unseen force is pushing this agenda and there is little resistance. A small victory for sanity, but don’t worry, the DOD will come up with a new program – for the new battlefield to replace this nonsense. It’s beast that must be fed.
And how clever they were. The MIC has spread through the nation in a network of corporations and vendors, business large and small all dependent on the DOD pork spending. While many support the immoral war machine directly or indirectly, most will rationalize it by saying it’s their job and it’s service to the nation.
Our nation has gone terribly wrong and efforts to fix it are hardly more than clipping the nails of a patient with cancer.
I see this all ending up as an out and out fascist state, where people have no rights and work from cradle to grave with little joy in their lives. I also see mass depopulation coming. The planet is dying in man made pollution made worse by exceeding her carrying capacity. Someone is planning to do something about this and we won’t be asked to vote on the plan.
Look for the federal reserve to be terminated and a new central bank established. Control the money and you control the game.
The guys controlling the US wants to get rid of the Islamic Revolutionary Government, but can’t seem to get a good excuse going. Look for false flags coming. They may let Israel do it and then come to her defense when Iran responds. Badda Bing. Do you think we would not defend our ally Israel?
Whether Obama wants this he will have no choice. The DOD must be fed. We need our oil. There is no other way in the near future.
The racist, bigoted, war mongering, war criminal, terrorist Israelis are at it again, now there is a great surprise. Every time there is a UN report detailing their war crimes they do some other dastardly thing to distract.
Good!!! Yeesh, I mean it’s one thing to be evil, but entirely another to be both evil and incompetent. Bush had achieved that rare bipartisan-style triumph, he hd crafter a policy that was both unworkable and stupid. I’m sure Broder and the rest of The Village were pleased, but I doubt anyone else was.
“Czechoslovakia”???? Agree with your overall point, but it’s almost inexcusable to not know Czechoslovakia hasn’t existed as a country for over 15 years……
I would expect this from Sarah Palin, but here??? Need to step up our game…

I hope Glenn Beck cries.
an entirely appropriate wish for any occasion.
Well, I guess a redesign is better than nothing.
It has always been the lot of Poland to wind up with the fuzzy end of the lollipop in every accord reached with western powers. You pays your money and you takes your choice.
This entails on balance no change in aggressive behavior on the part of the U.S. It’s just more brinksmanship and belligerence on the part of the U.S. and her client state in the Levant against the enemy du jour, Iran. And apparently Israel will contract to supply anti-missile missile weapons to countries in the eastern frontier of Europe, such as Poland.
The Czhech Republic. Echo’ing #23
WOW! How ye have little faith?! First thing I wanna say is THANK YOU HILLARY!!
Second thing is, we need to get the Cheney-installed Netanyahu out of office.
Doesn’t anyone ever remember how Arafat mysteriously died? (suspicion he was poisoned) and Israel’s Sharon, UP and had a stroke OUT OF NO WHERE? (like, a month between occurrences when W. and Cheney were in office?) It was all part of evil’s web that was being weaved.
The most important thing that needs to happen now, and if you go to drudges website you will see, the Hawks are painting Obama as leaving us open to an attack. THIS NEEDS TO BE COUNTER-SPUN IMMEDIATELY!
Before the MSM gets ahold of it and starts running with the ball!!
A counter attack might be….we must reduce our military budget ($500 billion a year and counting) which is the highest in the WHOLE FRIGGEN WORLD and of the TOP 8 industrial nations COMBINED! Our deficit is huge which will burden our children and grandchildren. Iran poses no current threat. The IAEA has verified that. Remember the IAEA? They were the ones that were right about no WMD in Iraq? This was all a part of the BUSH Administrations rush to war which included IRAN. This whole deal needs to be neutered, like, now.
BMAZ if you’re around, what do you think?
How do the progressives counter this simultaneously, while fighting on the health care front? Is there a progressive HAWK or PAC or group, that we can hand the ball off to, that can start spinning this now? The way it needs to be spun?
All I’m trying to say is, the Progressives NEED to set up a “Hawk Division”. An expert(s) in the field but a progressive at heart, that is specifically set up to go into action the minute an important development like this develops. That somebody(s) would have to have good msm contacts at CNN, MSNBC, ABC
The 1st Part of the Bush deal with the Poles was that Poland would buy the offsets for the F-16, supply troops for the “Coalition of the Willing” and in return get the military bases and [this is a big one] the Visa requirements for Poles in the US would be dropped. Kwasnieswski negotiated the deal (not Kaczynski). Poland is the only EU country whose citizens must get a visa to visit the US. It was a huge part of the deal, and Bush never had any intention of honoring that part, dead soldiers and all.
It seems like Obama is doing his best work in foreign policy, though not all of it (the wars, indefinite detention, etc.) His response to the Iranian protests was pitch perfect, his moves towards nuclear disarmament were encouraging, and this latest move to stop the idiotic missile defense plan are how his presidency is wildly different than the would-be McCain presidency.
“Our nation has gone terribly wrong…”
I’ll bite, just for some sort of baseline, at what point do you think were we terribly right, or at least acceptably so?
Between(roughly) 1930-1970 was probably the best stretch. true its not possible to say we were all together “right” then, but perception is relative, and from 1980 – 2009 you gotta own, our nation is terribly wrong. more wrong than its been since the bad old days approx 1784 – 1919..im giving the 20’s a pass cuz you have to give art some credit.
Okay, thanks. I would agree that the 80’s marked a real turning point, but I’m not sure the damage is any more severe than what we faced in the 30’s 40’s 50’s and 60’s respectively. I’m just leery of any nostalgia for the decades that created some of the most difficult problems we struggle with today. The military/industrial complex comes to mind.
Finally.
You know, reality must feel like it’s been hitting someone over the head with a two-by-four just to get their attention recently.
