I’ve lived in the South all 36 years of my life and I’ve never heard the phrase “bright red lips” used as a racial slur. In any case, trying to make Huck out to be a racist is ridiculous and silly. As a pastor he went against the grain (even threatening to quit) in trying to integrate Immanuel Baptist Church when a black man wanted to worship with them and was rejected by many church elders.

I would say that “bright red lips” is a “lipstick on a pig” reference. Van Jones is a communist and a 9/11 “truther” and that can’t be covered up by pretending that he is something else.

My thought of absinthe was inspired by the remarkable poster specimen included in the blog depicting an era when consumption of absinthe was more common than it is today, tho, there’s a recent resurgence of interest, apparently.

Inner pedant warning –
Evolution is not teleological (i.e. it has no directed end), but it is far from random. The random variation of offspring (from genetic recombination and mutation) is vigorously culled by the mechanism of natural selection. The most important constraint operative in this selection is the cumulative ecological, morphological, and physiological specifics defining the organism. Even the most rapid changes (i.e. ‘punctated’ evolutionary events) take at least hundreds of millenia to play out.

while the liberals and progressives whine and hide the repubs control congress and the white house

give credit where credit is due.

the repubs may be racists and dumbed down but they know how to control wash

they are still mad at the civil rights law and to see a black man and his family and even the mother in law in the white house is too much to take.

come on progressives quit letting the demo party take you for granted create a voting block sign up independent.

I’m not much of a football fan these days, but I do have a soft spot for players who get where they are on grit and determination. DeBerg was one of those guys. Dave Krieg, who played for the Seahawks, was another.
