Yes, Congressman Joe Wilson, carrying on the proud tradition of South Carolinian conservatives. From Preston Brooks, to Edmund Ruffin; from Strom Thurmond’s secret pants drop to Mark Sanford a proud tradition indeed.
But I come here not to bury Joe Wilson, but to praise him.
Thanks for saving the Democrats from themselves (for the moment) dumbass. I am sure by the time the morning comes Harry Reid or Max Baucus will find some way to squander this, but for a few hours at least there’s hope. Well, at least until I read the comments.
Meanwhile, how many of these mor(a)ns waiving non-plans…
Were doing this a few years ago?

South Cackalacky is proud of their native son… Speaking of Sons… Wilson launches Atty. Gen. campaign…
That would be Joe’s son Alan… Talk about fortuitous timing, eh…? ;-)
The Senior Wilson did all he could to boost his own reelection chances tonight, and I’m sure there will be some carry-over to the progeny.
Jesse Helms would be proud of him.
Read the comments from that article… Quite interesting, indeed…! ;-)
The GOPers should demonstrate their sincerity by rejecting their tax-payer purchased/government run health care. Also, in a show of solidarity with the American people, they should only get care from ERs.
Lord of the Flies, but they were just kids, what are Publicans?
Yup, nothin but class them repubs.
Friggin amazing comments. But we are talking about South Carolina.
Hey, I have direct family from northern Mississippi, and I know they are not all racist MoFos. My question would be how he got into office in the first place – he didn’t become a impolitic prick overnight.
Better put, how did Jeff Sessions get and keep his Senate seat? The exact same way.
I hope you are prescient, though.
nite sunny. i am out as well
nite pups
Aloha, newt…!
Don’t those Fire-Eaters make it tough to get ticked off at our side? I’d be genuinely perplexed if I could only stop laughing at the chuckleheads.

If I may:
Attaboy, Attaturk
that’s the perfect morning jolt of politicoffee
I thought that it would be nice to see what the home front was saying on this matter:
Lawmakers denounce ‘You lie’ outburst at Obama
Democrats and Republicans alike are denouncing Rep. Joe Wilson for shouting “You lie” at President Barack Obama during his speech to Congress, an extraordinary breach of decorum for which the South Carolina Republican swiftly apologized.
http://www.thestate.com/
Good morning, pups. Mr. Kristof is off, so it’s Collins and Cohen today. Ms. Collins, in “So Much for Civility,” says most of the Republicans listening to Barack Obama’s health care address sat in stony silence, but there were a few exceptions, and honestly, guys, she thinks you can do better. Mr. Cohen, in “New Tweets, Old Needs,” says Twitter is a formidable new tool for communication, but it is not journalism. In fact, journalism in many ways is the antithesis of the deluge of raw material that new social media deliver.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready and I’ve got Thomas’ English muffins that just popped out of the toaster, along with your favorite jam. The Nice Polite Republicans have just treated me to Lindsay Graham whining about how President Obama was such a meanie… I don’t understand how those of you who watch that moron Joe in the morning don’t wind up putting gin on your cornflakes. Thanks to all of you pups who reached out and smacked that troll last night — it’s an honor to know folks like you. Have a great day.
OK we were unwilling to listen to disappointing pablum last night so watched “After The Thin Man”, I guess we missed some fireworks. The question is did the chief waffler promote single payer or did he spend what is left of his political capital soothing the brows of the Insurance CEOs?
Is Massuh Chambliss going to make the Rep. eat some humble pie? Doubtful.
Alas, we’re saddled with Saxby down here, even further south. Of course, they may belong to the same chapter of Sons of the Confederacy or some such group…
This was from the Wiki right after the speech:
Addison Graves Wilson, Sr.(born July 31, 1947) is Republican politician from the U.S. state of South Carolina, currently representing the state’s 2nd congressional district (map), in the U.S. House of Representatives. The district is based in the state capital, Columbia, and stretches to the resort towns of Beaufort and Hilton Head Island. He is a douchebag that called the President of the United States a liar on national television and has no respect for the office he holds.
Yeah, I looked it up right after Keith Olbermann named Wilson. At that point, Wiki referred to Wilson as a “redneck” and said “He is the idiot..” Wilson’s website had apparently already crashed.
Here’s one reaction to Rapture Birther Joe Wilson…
http://whitenoiseinsanity.com/…..-carolina/
We all agree!
Slow morning at the lake. I’m off to be a small cog in the great healthcare machine…
Three pages of comments was as much as I could stomach. Apparently wilson and his supporters plan to turn the halls of Congress into a permanent August teabagger’s town hall. GAG!
Being from Minnesota I was just glad that the idiot wasn’t from my state this time. I was really worried Bachmann was going to stand up and slit her wrists, thou on second thought she could do that today, I’d be ok with that.
Here’s President Obama’s plan that no one will read because they’re too busy being stuck on stupid:
http://my.barackobama.com/page…..link=false
Marion =/= troll
The good parts are gone now. *sigh*
I don’t recall Democratic members of Congress shouting out rude remarks during any of Bushes speeches.
So much for respect for the office of the Presidency !
There’s a petition to censure Wilson at http://wilson.yeswestillcan.org.
No, but I remember the Pukes interrupting Clinton’s speeches with hoots and jeers. Once before the State of the Union the leadership had to take the Puke freshmen aside and school them on how to act.
During the few minutes of scar I listened to this morning, he spent most of it whining about how the Dems hissed at bush speeches during *his* time in congress…..strange how that never got picked up by the media. :-(
Very rude considering the place, time, and position (its not like congress people dont have a voice, so I dont get the protest – esp given who the real liar was).
Then of course to my memory nobody pulled this on Bush (and between lies about Katrina, spying, torture, and Iraq, and more you could make a case that perhaps a protest like that would be warrented – you know people dying and all).
Maybe we should go england paliment mode where they hurl jabs.
These days it ain’t just the freshmen who need schooling in manners. :-(
Interesting but still is using tax money to subsidize private insurance companies instead of using tax payer money to provide health care. Sounds very much like a sop to the insurance cos to me.
Rude behavior may play well with the base ,not so well with the moderate Republicans and especially not with the independents
Wilson’s Democratic challenger raised $40000 since last nights outburst ,these dumb asses keep shooting themselves in the foot
You have a great day too, Marion!
Would any of those schmears happen to be lingonberry?
Marion, I always enjoy your morning breakfasts and your summary of the NYT columnists. Have a good day.
If it’s your favorite it’s there!
WTF! Where did SC find this asshole? I went to his website this AM to let him know how I felt. This is what I found.
“This site is down for maintenance. Please check back again soon.”
Run for cover. Typical of these republicans. They seek the anonymity of the crowd so they can yell out racist statements, lies and insults. Wilson should at the very least be censored by the House. Pelosi was furious when he insulted the President. Now we can watch and see what is done. Of course in SC, he will be welcomed as a hero. Like returning to Libya.
Wilson was egged on by his Republican Study Committee buddies. Unfortunately, as a former judge and member of the SC bar, he may need to have his ticket pulled. Clinton was disbarred in Arkansas for 5 years for less.
South Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct Rule 407(preamble)
You’ve got to love us down here in SC. We’ve got the stupidest fucking representatives in all the land. I’ll put our assholes up against Mississippi and Alabama any day of the week.
It’s something, indeed, to be proud of a collective ignorance like that of South Carolina’s legislative bodies. Dickless, stump-fucking stupid ignoramuses.
One might think of Wilson’s shout out as the first symbolic shot of the 2nd Civil War.
Well, we’ve got some pretty special morans here in Georgia too. Our governor prays for rain…
I’ll raise you Broun and Kingston!
Ummmm, no. The public option will be paid for by individuals & businesses that want it. President Obama said the plan is paid for or it gets a veto.
We need to pass something by the end of the year. We’ve got 4 years to iron out the details (as stated by President Obama last night). Is that good enough? Nope! Obama is still on the National Assassination List. Spit.
WE CAN CALL JOE WILSON TODAY TO TELL HIM HE’S A FASCIST PIG:
http://www.democraticundergrou…..15;6504554
Or maybe some here will call him and tell him they agreed with his assessment of President Obama. *rolling eyes*
Obama will win no friends in the Republican Party no matter how much he wants to accommodate and include them in the “process.” Each accommodation will merely cause the Republicans to move the goal posts moving Obama even further to the right. Who’s playing who? He and his advisors obviously do not recognize this historical moment the country finds itself.
NO it is not, it falls way short. I wholeheartedly disagree with the idea of “passing something, anything” rather than passing a good bill that actually means something is the way to go. If BO truly wants healthcare reform and not just something to satisfy the insurance companies then now is the time, or it may be even too late. BO seems to think that political capital is bankable, it is not: You either have to spend it or lose it and he has lost it.
He is not going to get 4 more years to fix it, he has had his chance and he blew it.
Ever been to Illinois?
I heard that, due to his dumbass outburst, Rep. Dumbass has already raised an extra $100G’s, plus. There are obviously some Kindred Dumbasses in his district.
This says his Dem. opponent raised $100k+ http://houstonbusinessdaily.co…..ew/?p=1845
Well, we did cheer when the Iraq reporter threw two shoes at Bush and lemented that the tosser missed…of course that wasn’t in a joint meeting of Congress, etc., etc., etc.
I don’t know what to think this morning. There are many “Joe Wilsons” in Congress. Our Rep, Steve Buyer (pronounces it “Boo-your,” as in “Boo your President!”) is holding a townhall meeting in Lafayette (our sister city) Saturday morning. Seems to me that it will just be a big love fest of the crazies…a kind of Woodstock for wingnuts and others on day leave from the mental health facilites. Seems to me that do nothing GOPPERS got themselves read out of the health care process. “Boo-your” will vote “no” on anything for the rest of his term.
Get rid of “Boo-your?” isn’t going to happen…his district is constructed like Michelle Bachmann’s…a long sliver of very rural areas in the center of the state just north of Indy. He’d have to be caught selling drugs to get thrown out.
Should i go and waste a morning trying to show reason at a local meeting when I could be playing with my grandsons?
I’m beginning to think that the GOPPERS are just irrelevant and I shouldn’t read about them, think about them or care at all about whatever they do to get themselves back in the driver’s seat. I’ll stay home with the grandsons Saturday.
I have, and I had a great time on the north shore of Chicago, John Hughes territory. I figured politics in Illinois was simply corrupt. In my cynical way of thinking, evil and corrupt trumps just plain stupid. At least you have a weathervane of some sort.
Raven, I’ll submit to you regarding Jack Kingston. He is an idiot of cosmic proportions. He has competition, though…Patrick McHenry of NC, Lynn Westmoreland (from your fair state).
Savannah and Charleston…perhaps we could merge as city states and let the rest of Georgia and South Carolina secede as they’ve continued to want since 1865.
Another recent “proud moment” for S. Carolina.
Clemson U. caught fixing US News college rankings.
“Clemson’s president has a goal of moving Clemson onto U.S. News’s list of the top 20 public research universities, an ambition that has put great stress on the number-crunching staff, Watt said.
To be sure, some of what she described was fairly innocuous: alumni are encouraged to give the college as little as $1 annually, in order to goose the proportion of alumni donors, which the magazine uses as a measure of alumni satisfaction. (My own college does this, as I’m sure do many others.)
Clemson’s is also pursuing a more elite student body each year– higher GPAs, higher SATs — drawing criticism from some conference attendees, who suggested that that approach compromised the university’s mission as a public, land-grandt institution.
More dubiously, the university increased the proportion of classes with fewer than 20 people mainly by moving bodies around, Watt said. It let classes with 50 people swell to 60 or 70, she said, so that others could shrink from, say, 25 to 19. “Two or three students here and there, what a difference it can make,” Watt said.
Then Watt shocked the audience by saying that, on surveys distributed by U.S. News,, the Clemson brass “rates all programs other than Clemson below average,” adding: “And I’m confident my president is not the only one who does that.” (The online magazine said Watt seemed aware of the cynicism of what she was describing, and not entirely happy with it.)…”
http://www.boston.com/bostongl…..n_gam.html
you know what they say about the guy who jumps right to liar – “that word comes too oft and easy from your lips”.
It sure would be nice if they’d aim higher.
At least Obama didn’t stop in the middle of his speech and say “Despite our differences, I will work together with you, Mr. Wilson.”.
Thank goodness Obama isn’t that gullible.
It would be nice if Wilson lost, but there’s probably a ton of people in his district who approved of what he did last night.
Of course, those same people would be calling for the head(s) of any Democratic congressman/woman that heckled Bush during his administration.
I also have no doubt, no doubt whatsoever, that had that been a Democrat from, say, Massachusettes, during Bush’s term, that when all was said and done, that Democrat would not finish out that term.
Guarantee it. He’d be finished, resigned within 60 days.
I have equally as little doubt that Wilson not only won’t resign, he will be re-elected.
Funny old world, ain’t it?
You’re right. The Democrat would “do the right thing” and resign, probably within a week. The Democrats would have thrown him under the bus immediately. When a Dem gets into trouble, they’re always ostracised by the party, usually immediately (ask Van Jones). Republicans stay behind their people for as long as they can.
I concur. Wilson will not resign, and will probably be re-elected next year by a comfortable margin.
Wrong. It is a good bill. The House has the public option in it. It’s up to the Senate to pass the whole thing, but what I think is going to happen is the House will pass their bill and the Senate will wait until January 2010 when Kennedy’s replacement is appointed.
