Don’t bring that weak shit over here, Barone.
Liberal columnists have been attacking Republicans because some of their voters are "birthers," believers in the absurd charge that President Obama was not born in Hawaii and thus is not a natural-born U.S. citizen. But they have failed to identify any "birther" who occupied a position in the Republican firmament comparable to that of "truther" Van Jones in the Obama administration.
Uh, it’s not "some" Republican voters who are birthers. It’s most of them.
But that’s a strawman since there are birther members of Congress, who’ve introduced birther legislation. Other prominent Republican birthers include, in no particular order, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs, Liz Cheney, Michael Savage, Alan Keyes, G. Gordon Liddy and The National Review.
But birtherism is only a tiny slice of the GOP crazy.
How about the brightest star in the Republican firmament, who’s married to a secessionist, palled around with Birchers, theocrats and other right-wing kooks, and claimed Obama wants to gas her Down baby?
Or the Republican member of the Senate who compared Obama to Hitler and claimed the US was becoming Iran?
Or the higher-ranking Republican member of the Senate who said climate change was "the second greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people after the separation of church and state" and compared the EPA to the Gestapo?
Or how about the Republican governor of the second-largest state, who wants to emulate Jefferson Davis and appoints creationists to his state’s school board?
Or the Republican member of the House who warned that Obama wanted to create "re-education camps" for children and compared progressive taxation to slavery?
And then there’s the "reasonable" elder statesman of the GOP who called the Israeli invasion of Lebanon the beginning of the Third World War and claimed on national television that the proposed health care reforms will lead to euthanasia.
And don’t forget the former GOP presidential candidate and media star who publishes revisionist defenses of Adolf Hitler.
But none of those Republicans are as powerful and prominent and important as Van Jones, who thought Bush might’ve been warned about 9/11 before 9/11.
Mmmm-hmmm.

So much for civil discourse
And let’s not forget how Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Republic of Texas),
chair of the NRCC, wants to use the Taliban as a model for the GOP’s insurgency
against America’s democratically elected government.
Good work. Nice big stick you’re carrying. Keep swinging. I’ve had it up to my eyeballs inthe kind crap we get from “clever” people like Barone. Bravo.
I understand that Charles Rangel’s tax-dodge investigation has been referred to a special prosecutor at the brand new $500 million John P. Murtha Center for Ethics in Government, which has just been built in western Pennsylvania.
do I remember Republican senators calling for the assassinations of federal judges during the Schiavo disaster?
I asked this yesterday, and I’ll ask again, because I’m curious if anyone here disagrees. And I’m no “truther” by any stretch of the imagination.
I submit that had there been a Democrat in the White House with the same set of facts surrounding 9/11, i.e. an epic attack on the homeland leaving thousands dead, an intel memo dated weeks before the attack warning of such an attack, and at least one lower level FBI office had flagged at least one of the perpetrators of the attack weeks prior; with all of those same facts I believe, honestly and I’m not using hyperbole, I believe honestly the media, led by Faux News, would’ve hounded that Democrat on why he didn’t respond to those warning better all the way to the point that we would’ve had our second Presidential resignation in history.
I don’t see how one could know and understand our media and argue otherwise. So given that, why the hell is signing such a petition so “out there” to begin with?
Can anyone splain that?
The Talibanization of the Republican Party is no doubt a theory that will be studied at the brand new Cheney International Center at the University of Wyoming.

If the Nazis had been around before Hitler, he would have called his opponents Nazis.
Does anyone recall any crazy thing Barone has said? I am too lazy to do a search.
Great post, BT. And to go with the picture of Palin, don’t forget her Deather screed today insisting that death panels are too “for real”.
Oh, and did you metion a high level Republican Senator saying Obama wanted to gas grandma?? Didn’t Grassly (the ranking R on the Finance committee) say just that?
You could have stopped at “had there been a Democrat in the White House…” without any other suspicious factors and there still would have been a huge public outcry and numerous high-profile investigations.
And I’m not really a “truther” either. I’m sure there’s stuff we don’t know, but I don’t subscribe to any of the grand conspiracies.
To the mind of a reichwingnut it accuses Shrub/Cheney of crimes related to the events of 9.11. In reichwingland that’s high treason. These are people who will exploit any issue that will play to the uninformed reichwing base. The base is easily frightened, making the corporate pundits’ job that much easier.
OT Sen Tom Harkin to replace Ted Kennedy as chairman of the Health Committee
ah c’mon Blue Texan, Fringie McFringington is gonna feel left out
And nothing scares the base faster than brown people.
ok.. Y’all are adding new names too fast for me. What is a Truther? I got birthers and deathers, but Truthers I don’t know. Sombeody else on this blog mentioned Tenther.. no idea what that is either.
I guess I have to hand it to them. They have us on the 9/11 “truther” debate. There was no way Bush knew of the attacks before hand. It’s obvious that he didn’t even read the intelligence report titled “Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US”, because I’m sure he would have tried to stop it. /snark
Tenther refers to those saying the tenth ammendment does not allow for federal govt to be involved in health care.
Yes, we would have had either a resignation or an impeachment. This is the precise argument I use when people mention the “liberal media.” If there truly were a liberal media, the last occupants of the executive branch would now be in prison.
There’s some pretty wild conspiracy theories out there about 9/11. Like the U.S. government (and sometimes the Israelis too, depending on the theories) were aware of and approved of 9/11 for several nefarious reasons. These theorists demand we learn the “truth” about 9/11. Thus the name truthers.
No idea about tenther. Maybe something to do with the 10th Amendment?
The “Truth” about the events related to 9.11. There are a number of documentaries, most by Alex Jones iirc, that ask some very serious questions but provide only speculative answers or hint at answers. Truthers accept that speculation as the truth of what happened. That’s my take. ymmv
I’m guessing not.
A Google search for – “gas grandma” Grassley – resulted in 3 hits.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com
http://www.brownsugarpages.wordpress.com
http://www.thedailybeast.com
None of them attributed the quote to Grassley.
Yeah, that too. Had a bunch try to hijack an anti-war meeting with Cindy Sheehan here this summer.
.
most would consider the U.S. House of Representatives to be Republican firmament dipwad
OT Obama to reach out tonight by endorsing malpractice reform.
http://wonkroom.thinkprogress……ce-reform/
Don;t get out much huh?
Am I missing something or isn’t there a fairly wide latitude in the term truther. The truth is we know that Bush was warned an attack was imminent and his administration ignored it (”who could have imagined…?”) And the truth is that information was suppressed in the subsequent investigation so we don’t really know the truth. Acknowledging these truths does not make one a conspiracy nut.
Great post. Almost on a daily Republican-assholes and neo-cons hope for another 9-11 catastrophic event. That would prove the libs do not protect our security, and justify the national security state we have.
There were dozens of Saudis taking flight training before 9-11, and FBI agents reported it. They were then told to shut up. In 1995 the “bojinka” plot was discovered, blowing up airliners. “One person was killed in the course of the plot — a passenger seated near a nitroglycerin bomb on Philippine Airlines Flight 434.”
The US government knew ahead of time about the first WTC attack and allowed it to take place. The US government knew about the Embassy bombings in Africa before it happened. The CIA through their agent, Ali Mohamed, trained Al Qaeda, assisted and even moved Bin Laden from place to place. Did the government know about the 9-11 attacks before they occurred? Maybe maybe not, but the Air Force was running a simulation in NYC, on 9-11-01, wargaming an attack on the WTC.
I hear there are a lot of Republican politicians who believe that a magical man who lives in the sky listens to their thoughts and grants wishes for them! And that he’s going to fly down to Earth any day now and carry all his friends up into a celestial Disneyworld!
Until our society acknowledges the ludicrous notions and hideous, barbaric mindset of religious belief, people ought not point fingers at conspiracy theorists…
What’s the difference between the Far Right and the Forth Reich?
.
Trick question, there is no difference.
Sorry, i’m still ticked about throwing Mr. Jones under the bus. He was one of the “best and the brightest” and his sacrifice at the Alter of BecKKK is only going to encourage that crowd to go after more of the team.
as far as I am concerned any person who is not a “truther” is not paying attention
there is no question, it is documented fact that this adminsitration was in fact warned of the impending doom and ignored every template to avert the issue
these are facts not assumptions and to repeat myself, in my opinion if you are not a truther you are not paying attention
Truther, birther, blah, blah, blah.
However, these are facts.
1535ºC (2795ºF) – melting point of iron
~1510ºC (2750ºF) – melting point of typical structural steel
~825ºC (1517ºF) – maximum temperature of hydrocarbon fires burning in the atmosphere without pressurization or pre-heating (premixed fuel and air – blue flame)
How did molten steel form at the base of the towers from an open-air burn? Not possible.
Thermite would enable steel to reach melting temperatures.
Or weaponized nano thermite.
I think most of us agree on those facts. I also think the term “truther” refers to some of the more outlandish conspiracy theories – which may actually be true, but so far are only speculation.
may I suggest you guys continue your discussion in another thread, maybe the previous one, so as not to hijack this one ?? ‘k thx
I thought this would be the easiest point to verify, but I can’t even find confirmation of this.
Hear, hear JLML. Well said.
Boustany, the heart surgeon giving the response to Obama’s speech tonight.
How about that guy, Barone.
For that matter, how about Michael Barone.
See my #34. The laws of physics are immutable, they leave no room for speculation. Jet fuel burning in open air did not cause the steel in the towers to melt into pools which were seen glowing at 2750F by satellites in space for days after 9/11.
See Frank33’s #35 comment about weaponized nano thermite.
And what about “Dihydrogen monoxide”. There was plenty of that at the WTC site.
Van Jones was a communist, a racist, and part of the radical fringe that wanted to transform America. I am a conservative and member of no party. What bothers me more are his radical social ideas and not his paranoia about the government.
We would all like for this to just blow away, but it’s a festering sore. The criminals who perpetrated it are still with us, perpetrating other atrocities. Until we nail the culprits, we’re all fucked.
“Vigilant Guardian or Global Guardian”.
Not bad if I can hijack a thread with one comment. But it is true the Republican-assholes have been simply yearning for more American deaths from Al CIAda.
The grandmoms here have very delicate sensibilites, Frank. It’s not polite to upset Grandma.
Hey Blue,
Great list of ‘prominent rethugs’
I like to print out lists like these to keep ready in my back pocket, but I need names.
Nameless accusations are what they do ( “I have here in my hand a list of commie…Joe McCarthy)
Please name names of if you have time or refer us to a place to get them
PS: I don’t mind so much living in Texas with folks like you for neighbors.
Jane has a fresh post up for our perusal: “Baucus Co-Op Plan “Authored” By Ex-Wellpoint VP Matches July 31 Mike Ross Blue Dog Amendment”
seems clinton is a truther also, he has a pretty good interview in esquire right now;
Bush was warned in the August PDB…too bad he was using it as a photo op prop rather than reading it.
“radical social ideas”?
like what?
roads?…socialism
police?…socialism
firedept?…socialism
courts?…socialism
judges, law, order?…socialism
the very concept of money?…socialism
the armed forces of this great land?…socialism
water to your house?…socialism
electricity to your house?…socialism
the original boston tea party?…a revolt against the removing socialist practice of a tariff on imported goods
this government was founded on one that is for the people, by the people…a socialist concept
go figure
dunno…liberal media bias? (can we get a Cries out loud or Sobs out loud?)
SOL – that is good since it matches shxt outta luck.
Don’t forget that the “media should investigate un-american congress people” M Bachshitcrazyman
The CIA covered their ass. But Chimpie had the weirdest answer ever after getting the warning about Bin Laden.
and guess what. The sheeple are listening and as always, the lie becomes the perceived truth. Truthiness. So here we sit making fun of them, while they continue to spread truthiness about Obama. And they will continue to smear every single staffer of Obama and if they resign or get fired, then the authoritarian rethugs win. They are looking ahead to 10 and 12. Meanwhile, the dems in congress are acting insane. Fighting and drawing a line in the sand. Like herding cats. The rethugs will oppose everything because they want Obama to fail and will do any damn thing to make that happen. And where is the famous Obama team? Where is the message control? Where is a single adult?
The dems in congress, along with Obama are being demonized every day. The so called “liberal” MSM is panting and slobbering after anyone who will say anything bad about a dem or Obama. Where the f**k are the dems? Where is the dem party leader? Better yet, who is the dem party leader? You dems in congress sit on your ass saying how damn good you are while the rethugs are painting every dem as a commie, pretty damn soon that message is going to sink in and all the idiot sheeple will be led by the nose into voting rethug. The corporate authoritarian(rethuglican) oligarchy advances. They are not dead as many dems assume, they are fighting dirty on main street while the dems share tea and crumpets in the village with all the journalist whores. If the dems don’t get up off their dead asses and start fighting back, the corporate rethugs could very well win in 10 and 12. The dems have a huge majority yet act like the rethugs are in charge. Idiots.
“The rethugs will oppose everything because they want Obama to fail” do you believe that repulibcans want the obama/baucus healthcare plan to fail??
I know they want it to fail, they do not want obama to have any feather at all in his hat, if obama ran on a platform they will oppose that bill so that he does not enjoy a victory or success
so in a word, they answer to your question is;
yes
i was going to leave my response to this to the one question above but after reading this: they(republicans) are fighting dirty on main street while the dems share tea and crumpets in the village with all the journalist whores i have another couple of questions. Who are you attacking here? the netroots, Jane Hamsher, connected bloggers, FDA, labor activists etc., are “on mainstreet” and everywhere else fighting for porgressive change. Thats what these blogsand they’re regular raders and contributors have been all about since 2004, and it hasnt changed since Pres Obama was elected. As for the dems and their mutualist relationship with various and assundry coporate and media whores, just WHO do you think progressives are fighting with?
well they dont. if you think that the republicans, who are a wholly owned subsidiary of the banking and insurance industry want that bill killed, then give it some more thought. the only thing washington dems (including the president) and republicans are fighting over who will get the lions share of k st lobbyist money in 2010
Since we’re asking about definitions in this thread.
I’ve been wondering about the FDA reference I see a lot.
Other then the Food & Drug Administration, I’m not sure, or least not 100% sure.
Anyone?
EDIT: Doh, memory is playing tricks. I’ll stick to asking about the FDA above.
you make a good point and they are corporate puppets after all but they really do not want to give obama a victory or success so they are going through a *what to do* moment
Maybe he was being sarcastic?
Van Jones is old (as in ancient) news.
Move on please.
Notice how Democrats even investigate their own. They don’t sweep it under the bed. They relieve that person of any chairmanships and carry on until the its settled.
The sheeple are listening because there is no response from the White House or any of their mouth pieces. Moreover the White House is telling progressives not to bother pulling them or the blue dogs back to left.
They have sold us out. Can we start raising money for Dennis Kucinich or Anthony Weiner for a primary Challenger for Obama in 2012?
this is exactly why i think it was a HUGE mistake for the left to always be so dismissive of “truthers”. no matter how you sliced it, the mainstream Al-Qaeda “conspiracy” narrative doesn’t add up. there are more unanswered questions the more you look into it. does that mean i think there was thermite in the WTC? not at all, but it does mean i still have a lot of unanswered questions that — when looked at from a historical perspective at prior incidents like the Gulf of Tonkin, Pearl Harbor and the Reichstag fire — certainly would lead one to believe that something fishy was going on on 9/11. why haven’t progressives asked these questions by and large? simply because they don’t want to be marginalized… well, i hate to break it to ya, but in the mainstream media we’re already marginalized and always will be by a corporate power system that (rightly) sees us as the enemy. and now we’re playing semantics with we said-they said. who cares what Van Jones said? he had every right to ask the question that every American should have asked and should still be asking — what happened on 9/11?
Glenn Beck and the Gateway Pundit take down probably the most progressive member of Obama’s staff and we should get over it so easily? ummm… no.
The steel didn’t have to melt.
It only had to soften and deform. Remember, also, that steel and concrete are heavy (concrete weighs about one ton per cubic yard).
Talk to structural and materials engineers; you’ll learn more about what happened.
Simple experiment:
Build a model with something (doesn’t have to be large, but needs to weigh a pound or so) sitting on a plate supported on pillars of frozen ice cream. I think I can promise you that the model will collapse before the ice cream melts into a puddle. (You could use candles for the pillars, but they’d have to get warmer than the ice cream pillars do.)
