Congratulations, Floridian Goopers. Your leader is an asshat.
Mr. Greer has no evidence that the White House had a different speech last week than the one they posted yesterday. He has no copy of any "indoctrination" speech. His belief that he did is not sustainable, certainly not in a court of law. He’d be thrown out of a court of law. But this isn’t a courtroom; it’s television. He’s not talking to a jury that will carefully vet all the facts; he’s talkling to a TV audience. More to the point, it’s the choir, and he’s preaching to it. The choir doesn’t care if it’s accurate or logical; it only cares if the messenger feeds the choir’s addiction: Tell me what I believe. To choirs like that, affirmation is far more important than information.

Good morning, BT. Is it time for class warfare yet?
dirty hippies against the war criminals
dirty hippies for education. Also.
Mornin’, BT
I just knew Greer was gonna pull this stunt but I thought he’d wait until after the speech. My Rethug boss is gonna get an earful this morning. Fucking morons.
Ann Coulter’s latest adventure.
Tsk, tsk, that’s not very nice SD…! ;-)
Dirty Hippies for Peace And Health Care as good as Canada’s.
Greer is the new chairman of the GOP Rules Committee? Ho boy, I can just imagine what those meetings are like.
Hey, CT, ’sup, dude?
Natch.
Nothing makes the right-wing tremble with hate more than memories of the hippie movement of the late 60s, early 70s. It gave Nixon incessant nightmares. It was the one group that couldn’t be bought, brainwashed, or blackmailed.
dirty hippies against war and for universal healthcare
Up top the mtn again…! Getting more and more disgusted with the Healthcare debate that’s going on in the WH and Congress… They seem to forget that they work for us… ‘We the People’, and not Big Pharma and the Insurance cos…! 8-(
WTF! Grassley on C-Span answers a question about what to do when health insurance cuts you off. His answer is to get your Congresskritter to write a letter for you!
Herbert got it right again this morning in the Times: US politics is going off the rails. I just finished re-reading Peter Gay’s Weimar Culture, an old book but a good one. The parallels are astonishing: concentration and increasing timidity of the press before the threats of the right, pusillanimity and short-sightedness of the liberal centre, the explosion of unvarnished and unshamed lies in public discourse by the Right, intimidation. The only thing missing so far is political assassination. It is coming, but it won’t be the President who gets hit first. The purpose is to instill fear to stand up.
Heh, now that’ll put those congress critters to work most rickety-tick… Eh? ;-)
And the press isn’t publicising rethug plans. Give me a break. Cut taxes is a plan for everything.
That should keep them busy.
BTW, democracynow is doing an extended segment on Van Jones.
People have been making that comparison for a number of years. Yesterday Amy Goodman repeated an interview she did with Utah Phillips in 2004 and he discusses the similarities.
They forgot that when the DLC decided corporate wealth and influence was more important than anything else and joined the Rethugs in their belief that the people who own the country should rule it. Same line of thought the Founding Fathers had.
Baucus’s bill would actually tax the Health Insurers top notch health plans…
Thanks for the heads up. I missed dn yesterday. I’ll download it onto my ipod.
The Senate is bound and determined that the health insurance companies come out on top.
Well worth watching/listening to.
Although, I’m sooo depressed about the U.S., not sure I should be wallowing in it even more.
From the “Paranoia strikes deep” department.
“Right on, Charlie. This bunch is determined to make its critics look like fools by sending up trial balloons like that school speech and the lesson plans that accompany it. Then when the REAL one is delivered, it is nothing like the aforementioned trial balloons, and is really quite harmless, folks like you and I look like fools for stirring up the pot.
It’s like the boy who cried, “Wolf”.
These people know exactly what they’re doing. And it’s not having the best interests of this country at heart. It’s about having their selfish interrests first.”
I give them poits for imagination. I couldn’t come up with ten percent of the crap they put out every day.
I guess the only way for the Public Option to survive is for Pelosi to insert it into the bill during the Joint Conference committee…
That should help the insurance companies bottom line since most state commissions allow a percentage of income as ok.
Some lady with the last name of ‘wallace’ on morning joe talking about obama’s health care speech said that if nancy pelosi looks unhappy during/after the speech then his obama hit a home run.
edit: it was nicolle wallace, former bush communications director – so no surprise there
Congress well understands the picture. That’s why no one in Congress is willing to stand up. No one wants to be the next Paul Wellstone.
Unlike before, this is not a situation of a timid press. The situation now is far worse: the media is controlled by the ruling junta.
I watched Greer attempt to back down without backing down. He is a dim-witted asshole and probably a racist. The sad part is that he is using his childfren as a prop to his distorted beliefs. I never heard of this guy before. Where was he when Reagan spoke to school children? Where was he when three other presidents, including W, spoke to school children?
Call me cynical but it wasn’t until we had a Black president that Greer and his compatriots became concerned. To censor or deny a speech by the President of the United States is the height of unamericanism. I suggest that he keep his children home that day. That way he can lecture them about how the earth is 6000 years old and that there is no such thing as global warming or that their president was born in Kenya. The result would be that they would end up as dumb as he is, which may qualify them for scholarships at Regents, Liberty or Oral Roberts. What an asshole!
They can learn about racism better at home than in school, too.
You must not live in FL. The Rethugs here are famous for being idiots and backstabbers. There’s one Hillsborough County Commissioner whose answer to the economic downturn in the area is to build more houses.
Unfair to choirs! I sing in a church choir, and most singers tend to zone out when being preached at
Who might be the likely next candidate? Dennis Kuchinich?
I’ll bet you guys were a lot of fun during the primaries when all the rage was cancelling the elections combined with martial law.
Oh, isn’t that the truth!
Everybody has one.
???
If you’re referring to the hippie movement, it developed as a reaction to the drafting of kids right out of high school and turning them into killing monsters for service in Viet Nam.
Do you have a problem with that?
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
Uh, the presidential primaries of 2008 didn’t have a whole lot to do with hippies or Viet Nam. And seein’s how I spent 3 years in the Delta why don’t you tell me about the draft, hippies and Viet Nam.
Christy is upstairs…
The bad news, 4 KIA in Irak. The good news every day is profitable for corporations from military occupations in Irak and Afghanistan. When there is nothing on the horizon…
It would be my guess that he is referring to your #31. How absorbed would you have to be in the whole concept of conspiracy theories to think that there is an answer which could be deduced? How obtuse do you have to be to touch such a guessing game with a ten foot pole? Although I know it isn’t true, it leaves the impression that the conspiracy game is far more absorbing than any real concern about principles or the welfare of the country.
He should have demanded Obama clean his swimming pool too.
It’s all about the racism. These are the same people who won’t admit Obama was born a US citizen — even though he was actually born in a US state, unlike John McCain.
They are showing the corrosive evil at the heart of their philosophy, the final repudiation of the GOP’s once-proud “Party of Lincoln” heritage in favor of neoconservative Neo-Confederacy.
I’m a dirty hippy for President Obama and health care reform. Clean up America, throw a tea bagger in the river.
As a Vietnam Veteran I think the following is saying it nicely.
” Floridian Goopers. Your leader is an asshat.”
For Profit Insurance companies have been screwing Americans for 40 years and the Deny, Delay, Defend and Distract will be comming to an end soon.
Republicans today are bigots and deserve nothing but contempt.
As good as France’s
Why are people in here arguing about vietnam? it turned out pretty good for them, not so good for the U.S. But Its nothing to argue over, The Vietnam war and the popular resistance to it are part of the over arching history of american imperialism, which DOES lead us right up to this day.
was that a joke?
Sorry, can’t do it in my state.
It’s illegal to shit in public waterways.
Nobody’s arguing about Viet Nam. Read the entire exchange, please, but it does help to have been here at the Lake during the primaries when there were commenters predicting Shrub was going to cancel the general election and declare martial law. That’s what I was referring to in the original comment. I don’t appreciate Viet Nam vets still being painted with the “monster” brush 40 years later.
Yeah thanx, I never thought of it that way. Although I just moved here it’s probably illegal hear in Florida too.
“It’s illegal to shit in public waterways.”
Holding on to that last 1 minute of your 15 mins, Mr Greer. Stay Classy, GOP.
I think theres a major disconnect here. Those who are too young to remember how furious and all consuming that argument was, dont remember how Vets were demonized by some radicals(of course the radicals were being demonized by almost every part of society)I certainly wasnt trying to demonize vets.I think some of the comments are reflective of some of the commenters’ idea that the war protest and civil rights era was an ideal model for activism. It was effective, in a time before the internet, but it wasnt safe. It was work, There was cracked heads, and many faces went jail.Famillies were torn apart over it. Another thing is the Vietnam vets were a large part of the peace movement. I think I saw you mention that your a are a vet and ex(?) millitary, im glad to see you on the side of the people.Because there isnt a draft. its less of an issue.
Go back up to 31, 32, 35, and 37. That’s where this started. I never said anything about Nam, I was connecting comments made at the Lake during the primaries to this guy’s incessant conspiracy stuff. In response I got this thing about monsters. I’m a combat vet and take great offense at VN vets being categorized as monsters. So we went from my hitting on his penchant for conspiracy theories to his ranting about Nam. That was the disconnect.
