So Obama wants to address America’s schoolkids next week, and the batshit has hit the fan. Media Matters has a fantastic roundup of conservative crazies screaming that he wants to indoctrinate America’s children into his Communist Hitler Youth so all concerned parents should keep their children home so they don’t get Teh Brainwashed by his seductive liberal wiles. Or something.
As best as anyone can tell, Obama’s subversive join-me-and-we-can-rule-the-universe-together message is something along the lines of "Stay in school, study hard, drink your milk, don’t do drugs" – it’s like an afterschool special without the goofy plot and stilted line readings. But the wingnuts are flipping right the hell out like Obama’s the Pied Piper of Berlingrad come to drown their children in the river Wiser*.
Setting aside the surely ludicrous notion that conservatives are infuriated that an excessively-pigmented Democratic president is the one delivering this alarming message to the impressionable youth of America, I can think of only two rational explanations for the uproar:
1) 3,000 Americans died when the tough-on-terror-est president evar read "My Pet Goat" to just one room of schoolkids. Who knows what kind of terrible tragedy might befall us if a terrorist-loving Islamocommunofascist is allowed to address millions of them? One can only conclude that Obama has grown tired of waiting for his death panels and wants to start killing off honest, hardworking Americans right now.
2) Education and learning are un-American. After all, if our children apply themselves to their studies, they might become too clever and knowledgeable to fall for lies and talking points, making them totally unsuitable as voters. Worse yet, they might even become so capable that they start taking job opportunities away from the people who should rightly inherit them!
Either way, Obama’s insidious address is clearly a menace that must be stopped at all costs. Or at least get rebutted by Bobby Jindal.
*Spelling intentional. No Pied Piper pedantry, please.

Hi, Eli!
Gah! Ana Marie Cox in for Rachel. Aw, for pete’s sake.
And leading off with the Pres’s address to schoolkids next week.

Hi, Fun!
ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOBAMA!
Oooh, yes! Please bring in Kenneth the Page again!
I am so sick of the crazy. It’s not only stupid, it’s embarrassing.
Great post, Eli. Except that it wasn’t 3,000 Americans who died. There were people from more than 50 countries there, and the Americans numbered somewhere in the vicinity of 2,500, IIRC.
First off- HypnObama is almost as awesome as Hypnotoad.
Secondly, that first argument there is wonderful. It almost makes sense. Almost. If a wingnut seriously put forth this argument, I think I’d have to agree with them and clap and basically just let them have their way. That’s such beautiful logic, so beautiful.
Proof that something can be logical and completely false at the same time!
The kids would actually be the perfect audience for that delivery.
I still think they should rebut with Kenny “Don’t Tread On Me – I’ll Do It Myself” Gladney.
But the second argument is probably a lot closer to the reality.
Trust in meeeeee, trust in meeeee!
FWDiva
Actually, post hoc ergo propter hoc is a logical fallacy. So it’s both completely wrong AND illogical.
It’s a bi-fecta!!!

By the way, if you’re wondering why we’re losing good teachers:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/…..o-students
Yeah Eli,
My kids school district pulled a quick one and announced today they would not interupt the school day. Now, I am trying to figure something out. The email sent from our SuperIn was time stamped 8:25 AM. I checked my email four times today and three of those were after 8:25 AM. The fifth time I checked my email just before 4 PM was the time the email came through.
Anyway, tech question aside, it looks very bad when an administrator makes an announcement which leaves little opportunity for parents to respond.
This is just sick.
I am calling my kid’s schools on Tuesday requesting my children watch the broadcast.
Lawyer types a question. If they do not let my kids watch it at school but send home a video copy, is there any type of censorship issue to pursue?
I wrote on a thread at EW’s, it would be eye opening to start gathering a list of the school districts across the nation who opted out and start filing FIOA’s to gather emails, letters and documented communications which led to the decision. And I would print every crazy item in a book. I would open the book with a transcript of Obama’s message.
I would buy the book.
A title: The Audacity of Hope Over Hate
my guess is that the wingnuts are just trying to protect their cosseted progeny from having to see an African-American. I mean, they moved to their gated Tulsa subdivisions so that they’d never have to have their line of sight blighted by anything darker than themselves. And now the man they derisively call “Dingo Barry” – seriously, that’s their private epithet of choice – is forcing himself into their living rooms. The horror.
That graphic…oh my goodness
Aww . . . although allusive alliteration apparently is alright.
That could be interesting… if someone has the kung FOIA to get the goods.
I’m….getting….. sleeeepyyyy
Reductio Ad Hitlerium never gets old, does it? You can just change the “Hitler” part and it always sounds brand-new.
Let’s see, Mussolini, Chou, Castro, Stalin, … The possibilities are as endless as a knuckle-dragging idiot’s imagination.
Judge Doom from “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.”
i take it that your not one of the cutting edge, ultra hip,trans-partisan annamarie coxians?
I just love it when Obama is simultaneously accused of fascism and socialism/communism. Although I suppose Jonah could explain why that’s totally not contradictory at all.
Why not allow the repubs the opportunity for a rebuttal after Obama’s speech. That would be entertaining.
Nope. I’m one of the cutting edge, ultra hip,progresso-partisan Jane Hamsherites!
I love Rachel, but AMC’s snark is just grating on me tonight.
BTW, KO was really on it tonight.
FWDiva
Those school district FOIA’s are interesting when the items come from a school district. People tend to say a LEETLE bit too much in such emails. Our district knows this well. An FOIA landed our district in the national headlines a few years ago as an affair and sordid politics tied to romance, ended up printed up in this local paper. Seems our tax dollars were victims of poor stewardship.
“President Obama tells you that getting a good education is important. He lies! This country needs more fry cooks!”
perhaps they’ll have Lieberman do it…
I’m keeling over here. So thankful I am reading this at night…Otherwise, coffee spew would be my fate.
Heh, heh.
Heh, heh…
Can I put my vote in for Boehner?
When polls show that educated people almost unanimously decline affiliation with the Republican party one gains insight into these sad tactics.
Does it occur to anyone that the people showing up at these town hall meetings carrying swastikas do not appear to bright?
They not only don’t like their children seeing Obama on TV, they don’t like his message. Education is the future of the USA but it is the demise of the Republicant party. Quandry.
I guess since ignorance is working out SO well for these idiots complaining, they want to keep the cycle going.
And cannon fodder for Iraq and Af-Pak!
Duh!

I’m sure there’s at least one respected historian Jonah could quote on the subject …
I’m just flashing back to the ich bin ein Municher thing last summer. I guess their target audience can’t keep track of the metaphors. They’d be really confused if they did.

Twolf is the secret genius behind these allegedly amusing Eli posts.
I think it’s that the socialist/communist accusation obviously fits their Government Bad! ideology better, but Hitler’s name carries a lot more weight as The Ultimate Evil Leader.
My wife teaches middle school in Allen, TX (upscale suburb just north of Dallas) and yesterday she was informed they won’t be making Obama’s speech available to anyone. The district cited concerns over students being kept out of school. In Richardson, also just north of Dallas, my 7 year old grandson was sent home with a waiver requiring a parent’s signature before a child would be allowed to watch.
NOT watching the President’s address is the fucking DEFAULT option in the Richardson I.S.D.
Now my grandson will be conspicuously separated from his classmates and shuffled off to the Mohawk Elementary Free Speech Zone. I’ve decided to take the day off and accompany him. I’m anxious to see how the school officials handle it. My wife has already packed my angry eyes but I’m a little conflicted over packing heat, I can decide between a sidearm and a flamethrower,or both.
You are looking at this all wrong. This is an opportunity to push them even further around the bend.
I’ve started telling them that we WANT them to take their kids out of school, it is the easiest way for us to identify them when the ACORN army needs to come and get their guns. We are cross checking the “kept kid home from school’ list with the “sounds fishy” list of people’s names we captured with the flag@whitehouse list.
It’s all a part of the plan. (What’s that sound? Just the black helicopters, never mind them.)
Ironic, since the C Street founders actually use Hitler and Mao as examples of how the Elect should govern (not elected, Elect, as in God’s Elect, or something).
FWDiva
This is insane. And yet somehow not very surprising.
Insane has also become the default option.
Don’t these folks all home school their kids anyway? In any event, I’m certain one day they will be welcome at Liberty University.
That David Simon interview I quoted early in the week had a great quote along those lines:
]emphasis mine]
The sad thing is, we need a lot more education than we’re getting, particularly in poor sections of the country. So all this nonsense about Obama being Big Brother is crazy. If anything, conservatives (and the rest of us) should be asking why we’re not trying to educate these children better. Speaking to them on TV is cool, but in the end it’s meaningless if there’s no follow-up with better education.
This really is embarrassing, isn’t it? Any props the U.S. got for electing Obama have gone down in flames.
Worst case scenario, if the Rapture happens while all those kids are listening to Obama, none of them will go to Hebbin.
I live in a very red county and work for the school district at the district office. Much to my surprise, there was NO controversy here. The uppity POTUS will be seen by all the little wingnuts in training.

One more thought on the book idea. There are probably enough Obama volunteers around the country to compile a list of schools nationally, and file those FOIA’s.
Fahrenheit 451 is their model society. I was in Irving TX on business when that whole Dixie Chicks vs shrub thing was going on. I remember the shiver that went up my spine when I saw a bunch of graphic posters up on a bulletin board at a community center advertising a DVD burning event. It showed the musicians tied to a poll with kindling and flames at their feet. The caption read: “Burn away bad ideas.”. Now I know that pop albums aren’t books, but somehow I don’t think these people wouldn’t have advocated for a book burning just as easily.
That’s the loyal opposition for you.

Gesundheit!
We do have the new central school attendance database set up now in Democratic Party headquarters, right? Tell them to ignore the modem sounds, too.
Through secret channels, I have obtained the last lines of Obama’s address to the school children next week…
Oh, wait, that’s next week’s O’Reilly Factor. Never mind.
I was thinking the other day about how awful this whole health care debacle has been to the people of the world. And now this. It’s crazy.
I’m confused. Crazy Pat says Hitler really, just sadly misunderstood. Conservacrazies say Obama = just like Hitler. So aren’t they saying Obama is just a guy whose intentions are good?
Rachel caught a big ass striper!
Do you really want a president who can’t make himself understood?
perhaps they had the islamocommunism allusions in the line before the one you managed to uncover.
Gosh, hard to imagine that evarevarevar happening in this country!
Yeah. Dinner at Rachel’s! Who’s bringing the beer?
FWDiva
I mean, he’d never be able to get anything through Congress!
All kidding aside, of course (okay, never mind, but still), as you suggest, education is of course a very dangerous thing indeed for the GOP. In the absence of a solid low information voter bloc, where are they really, electorally speaking?
Exactly. But it’s not like they can come right out and *admit* that they’re anti-education.
The Merkin people — and especially the Villagers — would be outraged (outraged!) at his lack of intellectual heft …
Bill Moyers really promoting Josh Marshall….telling the Pres. to use his health care material for the speech….
I wonder how many people would keep their children home if Glenn Beck was addressing the school children.
My thinking is that they’re going to oppose every little thing he does just to be sure nothing gets accomplished. Distract and demonize. It’s Clinton II only this time it’s a black man so they can stir up a whole new batch of crazy.
A lot.
NPR Evening Edition had a whole piece on Dallas suburbs….nice. After all, most of Plano moved out there to get away from folks with swarthy skin….
Well, in that case, I would. But let’s face it, the repubs are better politicians than we are. If GWB were to address students, we wouldn’t have said a word.
No, but they can certainly try to do it by proxy (vouchers come to mind, as a not-as-subtle-as-they-think way to kill public education as we know it).
Also, making ignorance and an utter lack of intellectual curiosity a virtue in a president. I mean, not that we would ever elect such a president in this country lol!
So what’s the proper response, huh? I just learned my school district won’t be participating too (Loudoun County, Virginia).
This is what gets me. Reagan and Bush addressed kids in school. I don’t recall a big deal being made, opt-ins or opt-outs being mailed home, or whole school districts not participating.
Is the proper response for us on the left to coordinate and raise holy hell with our local school officials the next time Repuke President decides to do this?? That end result is no President ever gets to address the kids in school. Seems an odd end result to me.
Otherwise the end result is only Repuke Presidents get to address kids???
That seems even more odd.
WTF???
This same shit plays out on issue after issue after issue and I’m Goddamned tired of it. The side that acts like fucking spoiled two year olds controls the program. WTF?
I don’t know – I’ve been making a pretty penny selling our local sports team ball caps lined with tin foil so lil johnie wont be brainwashed by Obama’s mind control ray.
How about cutting the funding to underachieving schools instead of trying to fix them?
I don’t think that those are the same 15% I’m thinking about. I’ll keep my 15% of undereducated inner city kids, who may very well have real potential if only they could get a fair shake. My 15% surplus population lives in places like suburban Boise and Tulsa.
Oh, I also think he misused the term technocracy.
I’m not sure, but I suspect they’d be different people…
The tantrum strategy works pretty well for two-year-olds too, unless the grown-ups are willing to lay down the law and just put up with the screaming.
Obstruction by any means available has been the GOP modus operandi since Dems regained majorities in the House and Senate. Now that Dems have the White House, it’s all obstruction, all the time.
I can’t decide if they are REALLY good at it or if the Dem party is simply incapable of leading. Probably both.
I suspect that lack of access to a good public education system is the problem in both places. Only the reasons for that lack differ.
“technocratic nature” would have made more sense. He was speaking, not writing, so I’ll excuse the occasional use of a noun where one really should have used an adjective.
Shockingly, if his parents decided that the state wide faith based abstinence only lecture series might be a tad counterproductive, they’d have to sign a opt-out waiver. (we don’t hold the record for teen pregnancy, we do, however, hold it for teen pregnancy recidivism) Nothing says success louder than getting knocked up twice before dropping out of high school!
Speaking of two-year-olds. They very quickly discover and revel in the power of No.
regrettably, the Tulsa 15% votes. The inner city group doesn’t.
This is already happening with state funds in California. Districts are rewarded with funds based on State testing scores. Those who test poorly get punished financially.
Simi Valley.
I tell you, they have a lot of Faux viewers living there, and although most of them can reason from A to B, and some from C to D, damned few of them can reason from B to C, or see any differences between apples and oranges. (One of them said she wanted to sit facing the windows at the nail salon, in case there was a drive-by shooting; there hasn’t been one in Simi yet, and I have yet to hear of a drive-by of a nail salon anywhere. Dimbulbs.)
Yep, he got to go on the road alone to read Pet Goat….now was that taking time from learning or what?
God knows the wingers are ardently opposed to actual learning and education, as opposed to political and religious indoctrination.
yes. San Diego City Schools used to have excellent inner city magnet schools that attracted large numbers of white and Asian-American suburbanites to study alongside African- and Latino-American kids. The state’s implementations of NCLB and NCLB-like programs destroyed all of them, as they were forced to dump their special programs for back-to-basics reading intensives. The rich kids’ parents figured that if all schools were to be forced to have same curriculem, they’d rather have their kids in neighborhood zone schools, not taking mass transit all the way across the city each morning. Now those schools are the worst in the system, and the system as a whole has gone back to being one of the most segregated in the state. Total fail.
One of my friends watches FoxNews too. She is now afraid of cruise ships and Aruba. lol
I know, that was the part of NCLB that was the most baffling to me. Like the underperforming schools were underperforming by choice, and just needed the right incentive. Hooray for death spirals!
Let’s get this straight: the core of all this craziness — from birthers, to ‘Obama=Hitler’, to death panels, to ’socialized medicine’, to this episode — is that Obama is black. His opponents are whites. They are Republicans.
They are racists.
They have been running this Southern Strategy for 40 years, speaking in code. And, suddenly, their worst fear has been realized. A black man has been elected president.
It is so disorienting to them that it has caused them to lose contact with reality.
Of course, a lot of this is George W. Bush’s fault. Had his record as president not so thoroughly proved that white supremecy is a lie, Obama might never have been elected president.
BIG LOL..since I don’t watch, I can only conjecture that they are still milking that story….
I thought that was the whole point of NCLB?
FWDiva
DING DING DING! We have a winner!
And here’s the proof of what you say:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/…..te-KKKv2.0
As the saying goes, He proved that in spades..can never claim that myth again. Even Laura got clued in…
Bush’s problem was the book being read. My Pet Goat? Please.
Obama will no doubt read “My Pet Wildebeest” as befitting his non-Hawaiian birthplace, and all will be right with the world.
/s
TPTB just found something new to rile the masses. They did the same thing to Clinton (never gave him a moment that he wasn’t defensive) that they’re doing to Obama. It’s the end that’s important to them and they’ll employ whatever means is effective.
You don’t have to posit racism to explain this. Before the 2008 election, these same people were doing the same thing to John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich, and Hillary Clinton. They did it to Bill Clinton. All of these people are white, as are John Kerry and John Dean, whom they also did it to. Now that he’s the one in the way, they’re doing it to Obama.
I think the main reason that Obama got a break during the general election was that the Republicans had just trashed the economy, and everyone knew it except a few mouth-breathing imbeciles (IOW, “the base”). Now that memories are getting foggy again, they’re back at it.
I just hope all of the wingnuts hyperventilate themselves to their rapture in crazyland.
It’s the educational equivalent of, ‘the beatings will continue until morale improves.’ Or, we’ll give you access to healthcare so long as you don’t get sick.
Typical rethug orc logic.
Rupture, Rapture… you say tomato I say tomahto.
That and “stupid you, not being born to wealthy parents!”
FWDiva
We already have the best health care system in the world… for the perpetually healthy.
I think what Ben Franklin meant to say is that healthy and wealthy is wise.
Wha?
Rev. Wright? “Real” Americans? And countless other code attacks that BigMedia would repeat ad nauseum without any scrutiny whatsoever, including ones from the Clinton campaign? I’d also argue that attacks have been basically non-stop from 80% of the Liberal blogsphere, since I’ve been someone who has been defending President Barack Hussein Obama since about the time he declared he was running (been over two years now…)
When exactly did Obama get “a break?” I must of been on my polar expedition then.
<3 "batshit has hit the fan" lol
Thanks, dude. I’m sure I’m not the first.
come to think of it, they were the only net on at an airport lounge I was at the other day… and they were actually running another Holloway story. Still. Wars come and go. Governments rise and fall. But missing blond belles are forever… Oh, by the way, nobody has ever managed to explain to me why a high school would organize an official class trip to a wild Caribbean resort, where their students get to party all night with alcohol and probably other substances.
I’m sure this sort of thing makes complete sense to rethug orcs, but they really are lost on me. I admit that when I was that age we took more than one trip to Cabo, but those certainly weren’t official school functions… nor were parents necessarily aware where we were those weekends.
I think most progressives cut him some slack from around the time of the convention until it started becoming painfully evident that on national security he is Bush Lite and on domestic matters he is yet another corp tool.
We already have the best health care system in the world…
for the perpetually healthy. That MONEY CAN BUY!!Now thats the truth of it, if ya got plenty of money you can BUY the best care possible!! And for the rest of well shit I got mine and fuck you!
Enough of the usual suspects back then were lauding Obama that it sounded like a break. For a while, even Fox “News” was making nice. Yes, there was the Rev. Wright thing, etc., but most of that was nothing that any other candidate didn’t go through, including John McCain. The heat’s up now relative to then.
Reminds a little of the old “burning the books” bonfires. Pretty unbelievable and I’m embarrassed for all these people.
Anytime dude. ;)
Obama surely knew that there would be nuts who would be in a rage because he was AA but I really don’t think he or his people expected the type of thing that is happening. I do think that he wanted to get along with everyone and simply wasn’t prepared for the hatred and real craziness that has come out. He should not back down or compromise now – it will be seen as a weakness and if they smell blood in the water it will get worse.
It’s funny when you ask a two-year-old, “Want ice cream?” “NO! whuh? Yes!”
“Want a mandate with no public option?”
“NO! Wait… what?”
Or at least get rebutted by Bobby Jindal.
I think that’s asking waaaaay too much. /s
Ironically, sometimes even money doesn’t help. I think I related the story here of friends of mine who were bankrupted when the husband had his coverage exhausted and then dropped after a serious brain and spinal column injury. He was a seven figures investment banker before the accident, with a high wasp pedigree that would put the heroine of Titanic to shame (supreme irony – his grandma is friends with Bush 41 and family). The bills ran into the millions. Being wealthy buys you more of a cushion from disaster, but even affluence won’t save you from this broken healthcare system. Everybody is one ski accident or car crash from disaster. And it’s only going to get worse.
and then they kick something just to show they’re still ‘the boss’.

Late Night Presents: Harry vs. Harry in a Lightweight Bout for the Future of the Public Option
I often appreciate your comments here even when they challenge my own opinions, but I’m suggesting you’re way, way off on this line of argument. To equate what Obama’s endured from BigMedia storylines to general coverage McInsane got/gets is simply ludicrous.
Rev. Wright wasn’t a “thing” or phase. Along with the similar Bill Ayers/palling around with terrorists/real America nonsense, it was the entire campaign!
It also sowed the seeds of the current birth certificate/Obama is Hitler craziness. Absolute insanity. There is no comparison even remotely on the same planet where Repubs face anything similar.
Also, this stuff is much, much different than Vince Foster/Whitewater stuff the Clintons faced, which was also ridiculous, but the racial under and overtones are far more dangerous and damaging. I don’t remember people loudly and proudly bringing handguns and rifles to Clinton events, people in BigMedia and Congressmen suggesting that Clinton needed to stopped by any means necessary.
To equate these suggests to me that this is an example of “White privilege” (guessing…am I correct?).
if you’re rich you’re set and if you’re poor you’re good it’s the middle class that really gets screwed with healthcare
Oh yes, and much from Obama’s own side, his fellow Clinton “Liberals.” How could I forget Sister Harriet Christian?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KACQuZVAE3s
There is something much insidious happening here than with the standard “bring down Democrats” themes that have ruled BigMedia for 30+ years.
As others here have pointed out, at those times these people actually had some political power. Now they don’t, and so they are both more frightened and more aggressive. They really have a paranoid view of what liberals are trying to do to them. If you have the misfortune to listen to right wing radio you’ll see what I mean.
As for the “white privilege” comment, bite my furry ass.
I stand corrected. Apparently it’s “ewok privilege” in this case.
Frankly, it never occurred to me what your ethnic background was, and it doesn’t matter. What you are is intellectually lazy, and like many of that kind, you’re also arrogant. You could have clicked on my Internet handle, clicked on the keyword “racism”, and found out who I am. Instead, you choose to insult me as some sort of privileged moron.
So, while I must apologize for my outburst, you can take your fake respect elsewhere. What I don’t like about you has nothing to do with your melanin count, and everything to do with how you come across in print. Take that into consideration the next time you think otherwise in any other situation.
I think teachers should keep the names of everyone absent that day, and then send them to Child Protective Service. This is criminal.
I remember well — 20 years ago, when my children were in elementary school. At the start of the year, they had a Back to School night, 2 weeks after school started. This was so parents could ask questions of teachers. (After time had passed so they could see what the school year was like.) I was floored when some parents asked, “Will you be teaching ‘alternative lifestyles’?” What the ….? Did they mean “Will you be telling my little darling anything about gays?” With all the questions that could be asked about, you know, learning … they wasted time with this stupidity. And that was 20 years ago. I can only imagine what it is like today. And this is California, not Mississippi.
This is just more evidence that Republicans are batshit crazy. They reflexively object to all things Obama without the slightest pause for thought. It would seem that now, “Lernin? We don’t need no stinkin’ lernin’” is officially one of the planks in the Republican platform.
Are these morons serious? Do they honestly want to embrace the mantra of “WE ARE IGNORANT!” for the coming election cycle? Do they not think that this will revisit them come 2010?
Oh, wait. Of course they don’t THINK! THEY ARE REPUBLICANS!
Project much?
Calling me “arrogant” is rather odd when I started by complimenting you for making me question my own opinions in the past, but I suppose simply saying that was a lie (it wasn’t) and “fake respect” makes it easier for you. Talk about “intellectually lazy.”
Earlier, I offered a number of points as to why I feel the reactions to Obama are much different then the standard “Liberals suck!11!!” themes that dominate BigMedia storylines. Sister Harriet Christian being such a clear example since she’s supposedly a Liberal. So melanin levels are relevant in my opinion when talking about America’s first melanin-enhanced President, and me being melanin-challenged, I started noticing as I got older how often I exhibited “White privilege.” It’s not a negative to admit this, and this sort of introspection and attempt to change how you look at the world is the opposite of “lazy” and “arrogance.” Because I’ve had this journey myself, I feel I recognize various shades of this same “White privilege” in many of my fellow Liberals. It’s healthy to have this conversation in my opinion, and there’s a great deal of interesting writing about it over the years in all sorts of corners, which a Google search will reveal.
But thank you though for this exchange here, since I will “take that into consideration” and it’ll save me a lot of time in the future.
~~~EDITED BY MODERATOR~~~It makes no difference whatsoever to the Birthers, Deathers or whoever else that Obama is Black. None whatsoever.
Yeah, right.
What’s happening to Obama is a whole new level and much more openly virulent — and I think it’s ridiculous to insist that race has nothing to do with it. His blackness is the most potent fuel imaginable for these people to ignite every fear and insecurity they have as their world changes around them.
Cujo can call bullshit on the idea of White privilege, but part of that privilege is being able to wish racism away into the cornfield when it’s convenient to do so.
~~~ModNote: Personal slights prohibited. Keep your comments issue oriented, please.~~~
Dear Modearator: I was being completely IRONIC by calling Bonkers an “idiot”. From the content of my post it’s clear that I agree with and am supporting him.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
“Ignite” is a good word to describe this, I think. They’re going down in a blaze of gory.
Unfortunately, much of this mentality is just going to have to die off, which is happening more and more now, but I do think we’ll be in a much better place in the long run when the fire burns out over the next several years.
Sure, there’s some that have passed it on still to younger generations, but the people who are much more tolerant toward those “different” from themselves will begin to outnumber the “intolerables.” I hope anyway, but it does seem fairly certain. Onward and upward!
Thank goodness our Great President is starting the youth indoctrination program he secretly promised us for years!
Now we can look forward to robotic Obama clones taking over Congress.
Maybe then the Dems will be able to pass a meaningful healthcare bill.
Maybe.
If all these right wingnuts are so upset with Obama, I wish they’d go to another land. Perhaps they should find an uninhabited island where they can live as they wish…I am SO tired of the craziness!
The GOP is afraid the children might find out the GOP does a lot of lying .
