After Katrina: Rebuilding And Renewal In New Orleans

By: Christy Hardin Smith Saturday August 29, 2009 11:30 am

I’ve been meaning to get pictures of our trip to New Orleans up for ages, and just haven’t found the right moment to write about them. Until now. Seems a fitting tribute to the resilience and strength of the human spirit that we saw from so many in NOLA to post some pictures of how beautiful areas are, and how far things have come for so many who have been working

Live Blogging Ted Kennedy’s Funeral

By: Lisa Derrick Saturday August 29, 2009 7:30 am

Senator Edward Kennedy’s funeral is broadcast live from the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica in Boston. The Secret Service has been checking people in and doing body scans under a tent since it’s raining. Jesse Jackson, GW Bush, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Arnold Schwarzenegger, members of Congress, all the Kennedys are in attendance, along with foreign dignitaries. Bush 1 isn’t there–supposedly he is not well enough to make the drive. And President Obama will deliver the eulogy.

The service, called the Mass of the Resurrection, is full pomp of and circumstance, incense, altar boys–plus there’s a string quartet and it will be broadcast live on CSPAN, CNN and Fox News.

The New Ted Kennedy

By: Eli Friday August 28, 2009 6:01 pm

Either the Republicans and the media have gone insane, or I have. Some of the reactions to Teddy Kennedy’s passing were sadly predictable, like the raw hate that vomited forth where compassion and humanity should have been, and the assertions that the Democrats should bipartisanly compromise the hell out of healthcare because Teddy was such a great bipartisan compromiser – like this latest nonsense from Stephanopoulos:
