It was quite a juxtaposition this weekend. If Saturday was for remembering the Kennedys, Sunday was for dealing with the Cheneys. Camelot vs. Torture-a-lot.
Dick was mumbling up a storm about how awesome torture was, including an even more twisted cheer of "drill, baby, drill!", to which the FoxNews position was F%@$ YEAH!!
Meanwhile, Liz Cheney, born in time to keep Dick out of Vietnam was on ABC working to keep Dick out of jail. Truly, the gift of a child that keeps on giving…at least to Daddy. With Liz’s appearance, as Scarecrow mentioned for ABC it came down not to a means to an end, but rather just for the means themselves.
But at least CBS had John McCain on to say that Cheney is wrong and torture is wrong, but that torturing people should not result in any consequences for anyone actually torturing someone.
So in summary, we said goodbye to Ted Kennedy one day and the next we were deciding how much we as a nation can torture people. And even more disturbing were the proposed answers.
Nobody said "NO". Rather the responses were: "Yes"; "Oh Yes!"; and "Oh well".
USA! USA! USA!

Darth is all the more revolting for being a great fundraiser from the wingers. The hatred for his fellowman is a major draw for the dark side, and the desperate straits these war criminals left the country in is a very good indication of the way in which they regard the U.S. – and democracy.
But, but, but….. Dick kept us safe for 8 years! Unless you were stupid enough to live in New York. Or New Orleans. Or Iraq. Or Afganistan. Or serve in the military…….Oh, wait….never mind.
He is a coward, and proves it.
By the way, your version of Cheney’s saying is hilarious.
Almost as long as his deferments.
There he sits with a pen and a yellow pad
What a handsome lad
That’s my Chris
BRLFQ spells mom and dad
But that ain’t too bad
That’s my Chris
A boy like that would drive you to sackcloth and ashes.
And Mornin Joe now letting us know that someone in our government HAD to have been informed the Libyan bomber was going to be released.
Cheney is a war criminal. Like drunkards, the body politics in America will not hold this “POS” accountable for his lawlessness. You see America compromises it own Constitution and law in a vile manifestations of situation ethics, to protect the business of potential energy called crude, in its various forms, which fuels many of our liberties. Cheney would have sided with Taney’s decision in Scott vs Sanford! because;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D…..;_Sandford
“Although Taney believed that the decision represented a compromise that would settle the slavery question once and for all by transforming a contested political issue into a matter of settled law, it produced the opposite result. It strengthened the opposition to slavery in the North, divided the Democratic Party on sectional lines, encouraged secessionist elements among Southern supporters of slavery to make even bolder demands, and strengthened the Republican Party.”
Leveraged “Servitude” enabled under the color of law is the same as slavery! Life Liberty and pursuit of happiness in accordance with corporate dictates or the dictates of a King? Answer: YUCK YOU!
Spot on on the gift that keeps on giving. Well well done, Attaturk!
There is an interesting essay in the New Yorker this week on regime protest in Iran and how people are making you-tubes “in the event I am arrested and tortured” that say what the truth is prior to whatever is broadcast later (post arrest) by the regime.
The power of the state over people has shifted.
I have been trying to imagine some kind of theater along this line that could be made here that might go viral on you tube that would have some kind of impact vis a vis Torture-a-lot regime.
80% of Americans agree with the Bush tactics and oppose the Obama health care plan.
Morning Joe
There are a lot of things we just don’t want to know
Barnicle
I remain in awe of your ability to watch that dreck first thing in the morning. It would sour my whole day. Jeez, Monday is bad enough all by itself without that…
I recall my first marketing class! Professor stated: “20% of the population thinks, 80% is gullible.” When you market an idea or product, that 80% is your target audience. Now we know why so many Americans where killed by the tobacco manufacturer’s products causing cancer and premature death? They went after that 80% hard and are responsible for much of the health costs in America. Now the corporations attack that same 80%, with fear and basic bullshit, contrary to the common sense of mothers who said do not smoke, “just say no to health care reform, and smoke.” Be persuaded by corporate powers to act in a manner inconsistent with your true self interest, to protect corporate profit. 80% ignorance or like ostriches with the head conveniently buried in the sand. Maybe even like Silent Germans, fear fear fear………………..
Good morning, pups. It’s The Pasty Little Putz, Cohen and Krugman this morning. The Pasty Little Putz, in “A Different Kind of Liberal,” gurgles that it’s worth pondering how the politics of abortion might have been different had Ted Kennedy shared some of his sister Eunice’s qualms about the practice. Mr. Cohen, writing from Cherence, France, gives us “Advantage France” in which he says time bows at the altar of gastronomy in France. In the U.S., time is the altar. Prof. Krugman is “Missing Richard Nixon.” He says in the Nixon era, leaders in both political parties were capable of speaking rationally, and decisions weren’t as warped by corporate cash as they are now.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cool drinks are in the fridge, and the biscuits are out of the oven. I’m barely ready for a new week, let alone a new month… Have a great day.
“Actually turning this country around is going to take years of siege warfare against deeply entrenched interests, defending a deeply dysfunctional political system.”
Sounds like what America’s founders where up against when dealing with a King and his corporate cohorts in colonial crime???????
Lets protect the oil corporation where 70% of every dollar spent on the potential energy, gasoline… is wasted
Lets protected corporate tax exempt health insurers who exercise legalized discrimination while enjoying Public Charity tax status. Meanwhile American are leveraged into economic servitude by a racket of corporate thieves who abuse tax exempt status to insulate themselves from change, while bankrupting America??? Corporate Treason………..
If you should not be prosecuted for violating the law, what is the point of having laws?
The corporate interests own Washington , you may be right in infering that nothing short of a revolution will change our current system
I feel that the type of change we want is gonna take a long time to bring about !
patience my friend it will come ,one way or the other !!
“blow up your teevee .. throw away your paper ..
move to the country .. build yerself a home ..
eat a lot of peaches .. raise a lot of children ..
try to find jeebus .. on your own ..”
it’s times like these i’m glad i don’t watch teevee …
thanks for the post .. and screw dick cheney .. like dick armey .. he’s a real dick ..
what the roundheads under cromwell did to king charles .. is fitting too for dick cheney .. imo ..
I’m sorry that the pundit class has such a deep yellow streak running down their backs that they will do anything including torturing (aka raping) children to feel safe enough to come out from under their beds. Rather than face the reality of terrorism and work towards reducing the tensions that create terrorists, the pundits want the easy way out. Sad that maiming and murdering people is now considered easy.
There’s also a pathetic disconnect from actual (rather than virtual) reality by pundits who have been busy reading spy thrillers and watching the “Bourne” movies and imagining themselves well-versed on all matters of intelligence. I suppose thinking such grandiose thoughts is part and parcel of Neoconism which seems to be, like Objectivism before it, a way for the skulking little gray men of the world to feel virile.
If we are ever to regain our status are leader of the free world ,we have to clean our own house first.
As far as our enemies are concerned, failure to prosecute the torturers will be used against us.
There is already some evidence that al quaida has used this issue as a recruiting tool.
I applaud the justice dept for wanting to investigate this ,we are not torturers and the world needs to know it .Let it be shown that is was a small group of people who engaged in this activity outside of the law and was not an official US policy
I’m not sure if the pundit class is yellow ,or if they are just kowtowing to their corporate masters
Morning all.
WJ asking about Cheney’s statements about torture. Call or E-mail.
They’re both.
The two mile doggie walk at 6:30 helps. I think the first thing for Joe is considered “editorial” so he runs off at the mouth even more.
To bad there isn’t a brain connected to his mouth.
But that flappy armed kept man little motherfucker helped Dubya legitimize torture! He was one of The Three Brave Senators – Flopsy, Mopsy and teh gai one – who went to the WH about this! Saw it on my teebee and the innertoobs. Is this what Reinhold Niebuhr meant by “The Irony of American History”?
I’ve been patient most of my life. I’ve seen much and have been very fortunate. As I age it becomes more clear the fears expressed by our founders are becoming reality. It is not for myself that I fear. It is an anxious gnawing in my stomach I experience when thinking of my seed’s future. When “Life” itself can be taxed in the form of insurance premiums related to health in the form of care, corporate servitude is achieved. Its about rights and the protection of rights of men by by men. Not corporations eviscerating America, for profit.
Watching Mike the jr play softball with The War Criminal dick out in Wyoming one thing is clear, judging from the background estate, war crime pays.
The other thing that struck me was dick saying he had retired [from Government] four times which I took to mean he’s planning on coming back.
You gotta remember that Dick did not want to be a part of the military. His plans for life have always been that he directs the military and Intelligence agencies.
What amazes me is that both he and his daughter show up on public tv continually putting a plastic bag on the head of our protective services.
One day somebody is going to [edited by mod]. It is comical how he continues to throw people under the bus for his own sick agenda.
