Wouldn’t it be nice of us to make a little soundtrack for the poor little teabaggers in this time of nervous tension? Leave a suggested song in thread and I will pool our favorites into one play list.
What’s on your mind tonight?
Update: Here’s the entire list. Twenty four videos and counting.

ZEEEEED!
congrats KellyCD!
Hiya ES & Pups!
A teabagger soundtrack … hmmm.. I’m gonna have to go put on one of my tin-foil thinking caps.
Hey, LLN pups and ES!
FWDiva
Crazy Train? Ozzy?
Hi KCD.. ndfg.
I may need some tin-foil flip-flops to go with my hat..)
ES how goes it??
Hard not to think of Ozzy at a time like this.
Good stranger, how are you?
Weee! No kidding!
Of course Old Fashioned Morphine came to my mind.
There is not one decent original or cover of Jerry Reed’s “Get Some Insurance” on YouTube.
Doing great!! Set to fly back tomorrow night in time for the West Coast version of late late nite!!! Will be good to be back in the Bay Area. Vacation, weddings were all great. got so see lots of family while here, see most of my old stomping grounds and played tour guide for my sweetie… she just loved downtown Boston and Fanueil Hall area! Also made to Harvard Yard to Park the Car. Said with my very strong Boston accent!!
Well, there’s always “Sometimes I’ve Won” by YMSB
:)
there’s always the classic Randy Newman song, Rednecks. He manages to nail everybody’s racism.
Well shit it is 1:15 here already and we are hoping to go back out to Nahant one more time before we leave(lots of memories there for me)so…
Nite Pups sleep well when ya git there (:>))
Nighty night nahant!
[alliteration is good for the soul :) ]
Wonderful! One of these days i will see that area. Never been north of NY.
30 days in the hole. Humble Pie. (For Cheney)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwWEoMM4PDY
Love YMSB
Me too! Very cool, and inspiring.
But I still haven’t worked out what string instrument I should play, or even try to. But more and more, I’m thinking “just go guitar, dumbass.” Yet the banjo, bass and the fiddle are SOOOO attractive.
My pick for the teabaggers’ soundtrack, Nemesis, by Shriekback.
You have to be a badass picker to play the banjo.
LOL that’s is an entirely different list… but I like where you are going..)
In my next life I soooo hope I get a little bit o musical ability. For now i sing or play instruments miles from others.
Except for drumming circles… I can pull that off now.
just came across a story from KSPR in Missouri: “Parents Upset About Evolution T-shirts”
Apparently some public high school band students produced a t-shirt that showed a monkey evolving into a person evolving, in turn, into a person playing a musical instrument. Fundie Parents demanded that the shirts be banned on the grounds that it articulated a religious belief in a public school (evolution being, apparently, a religious belief). The school district obligingly outlawed the offending shirts.
Sometimes I just want to weep for this country….
Radiohead: Paranoid Android and Karma Police
Now that brings back memories!
Here’s our entire playlist as it develops. I will switch them around in the best order later on.
From all the unborn chicken voices in my head.
707!
Heh! You clever devil! That’s great!
Here is my nominee:
ATTACK OF THE TOWN HALL ZOMBIES
(Actually, “Rise” by Séance Fiction)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XklpS5joHdw
How about Nineteenth Nervous Breakdown, in honor of the conservative freakout du jour.
The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down
Now if we can just figure out a way to feed it through their tour bus sound system..)
Graham Parker – Don’t Ask Me Questions
Excellent
Richard Thompson – I Feel So Good
Found a Last Waltz version.. added..)
Elvis Costello – Less Than Zero
I give you Barnes & Barnes: “Fish Heads”
This is how we must communicate with them.
The Tubes “What do you want from life?”
Just because I love Fee Waybill!
LOL! So true…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewHpCVxUfmE
Maybe we should add Braindead by Braindead.. just for Congressman Mike Stark..)
Hello again everybody! It’s BleuZ00m, and I didn’t lurk at all before jumping in tonight. I’ll quick take a lurk and see how NDFL is doing. Hoping her eye surgery went well..
And for those of you in CA.. yikes, those fires are terrifying. Please known that your buds on the other coast are genuinely concerned. Wishing we could blow some rain in your direction…
I’ll quick do a lurk to see who all’s here. back in a sec.
Hello again ndfg! How’d your surgery go????
Or a baby’s arm holding an apple.
I will always have spot in my heart for the Tubes. They were the opening act for my very first concert.
evening eureka. love the tunes
welcome back bleu
Brilliant!
OPENING!
Tell more, please!
ATTACK OF THE TOWN HALL ZOMBIES — the blog post
the obvious choice:
Green Day – American Idiot
(now a musical at Berkeley Rep)
ok i have a two-fer for the list.
first we make nice and Take the Skinheads Bowling.
Then when they’re sitting there in the bowling alley with a WTF moment, we hit ‘em with Brother Ali’s Uncle Sam Goddamn and watch their little wingnutty pointed heads explode. BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA

Heya Newtonusr.. Welcome Bleu
Thanks Newton!
Let’s see the topic is the soundtrack for teabaggers.. hmm.. though this might be a bit off topic, I stumbled across a Pete Seeger tune, lyrics by Calvin Trillin, no less.
I like the refrain.. the whole GW/Turdblossom crew, explained.
the ross perot guide to answering embarrassing questions

http://bit.ly/TeabaggersNewAllies
I also nominate Zappa’s
Bobby Brown
Thank you, Eureka Springs! –@@– (that’s my attempt at a handshake, tho it looks like dueling roses)
I’m a newbie here.
Looks like ndfg is gone for the night; wondering if any of us know how her eye surgery went…
Ahhh you get two gold stars just because I’ve posted both of those songs for LLN in the past..)
Let’s see, I was a sophmore in high school. My parents actually drove me and my older brother to Keezar stadium the night before the show and left us there. Oh, and by the way, did I mention that Led Zepplin was the headliner?
I would go for “Excitable Boy”
My favorite Humble Pie! Thanks.
Hi, and hi to ES!
*waves at bleuZ* surgery went great, happened late this afternoon. Unfortunately there were two tears, not one, but that’s still way better than a detached retina. Still blurry and floaters in the right eye but the eye doc says that’ll gradually improve. I’m good to go to work tomorrow, wear contacts, etc etc. HURRAY for modern laser surgery. Next life-time i am choosing to NOT be severely near-sighted as that is about the only way to prevent this from happening.
Thanks to all the Firepups for the good wishes re surgery and healing the other night! I’m convinced that type of thing works – the doc was amazed at how the blood had cleared out, from how it looked on saturday he didn’t know if he could see the retina well enough to do the surgery. But it was, quote, “amazingly clear!”
Hi Margot
i musta missed those nights, they’ve been faves of mine for quite a while. What can i say, you’re a man of impeccable taste *g*
Excitable Boy is Warren Zevon – I was lusting after some Zappa. :)
PJ Harvey – When Under Ether
To this day I still puzzle over how Peter Frameton(Oh hell, you know who I mean) went from that to “Baby I Love Your Way”.
~~waves back at ndfg~~ Oh good! I’m so glad to hear it went well. Considering the kinda scary schlep you had to go through just to get to the docs who could correctly diagnose the problem.. and all that.. with your gran, I think it was?
anyhoo, Phew, huh? And they’ll let you wear contacts tomorrow?? So soon? Hey, I’m opthamological-knowledge challenged here; forgive my ignorance.
Hey, when each of us comes back, here’s wishing we’ll either come back as the Da Lai Lama or..with the financial moxie of a Warren Buffett..
Glad to hear you’re okay and on the mend, ndfg!! :-)
He put down the hash pipe.
Oh snap!
You are of course correct. Still it it amazing how strange minds run alike. After all titties and beer tittes and beer.
I remember the crowd booing Frampton off the stage at Legend City (somewhere around 1978, ‘79). He was opening for some band, who knows. There was lotsa smoke in the crowd. Phoenix was REALLY rude in those days. Heh.
Well he should pick it up!
Our Lady of the Monitor.
Hugs dear ndfg.
Thanks! :-D
Then again, his bubble gum rock did keep me running into a really really cute red head at his shows.
second that
thank you! i’m just real grateful it wasn’t a detached retina. That sounds seriously scary.
okay.. here’s another music thought.. tho the insurance lobbyists are wallowin in their vast seas of money, plinking out chump change, relatively speaking, to send the clueless teabaggers thither.. those greedy $&%(# must be kinda..
lonely at the top.. http://bit.ly/LFWtW
about Frampton (sp?) that’s a LOL!
This is a real nasty-sounding song. I chose it because I think the tea-baggers would just hate it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cFCsE_vBIQ
yeah, it was my 80-yr-old mom needing to drive me. Everyone else wasn’t around at the moment. And wisely she no longer drives in the core of the metro area. Luckily by the time i needed to shuffle off to the special’s office (he drove in & met me there) my brother had returned from whatever tractor-pull/threshing show he was at and was able to drive me into the metro.
Why is it with families, they’re always in your hair and then when ya need ‘em there INSTANTLY, they’re nowhere to be found *g*
Okay, I’m thinking about adding Elmore James – It hurts me too.
And when the time comes I think Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris – In My Hour of Darkness might be a good ending.
all that voice-box gimmickry that has permeated current hip-hip/pop this past year or so (started by Kanye West?)… I had to point out to punaisette that Peter Frampton did that when I was in high school (”Do You Feel Like We Do”, live version at 2:50)
lmao!
I didn’t know Framton was there, then. All I know is from reading YouTube stuff and well, that’s not always accurate. Just never had the money to buy many albums.
Most excellent!
Now I’m stuck. Did Rocky Mountain Way come out before Frampton’s flirtation? ‘72 I think.
Oh that’s it.. I forgot your brother was away when this all came down, for you. Something tells me your Mom knew, just knew she had to get you there fast. Bless her, ndfg. And ah well, TG your bro did turn up…(how’d he do at the tractor pull? just wondering.. I’m a former NYer who spent summers at grandpere’s farm in NJ, but he’d never cotton to tractor pulls.. ‘a waste of gahzoleen ven zere’s verk to be done’)
an yeah. this’ll sound like some sappy Hallmark pile ‘o .. stuff:
You can’t pick your family, but you can pick your friends. And in time, your friends become your family.
that’s for sure, friends become family! Alas, i’m sure any of my friends would have taken me but they’re all in minneapolis, as are my kids, and i was in wisconsin at my mom’s, high school reunion weekend yanno. Shit never happens at convenient times!
ok, back to the list. I was thinking of good ol’ Ensign who had to have Mommy & Daddy pay off his mistress. And these lyrics came to mind:
“Send lawyers, guns and money
Dad, get me outta this!”
There has to be a mention for the song that was getting a lot of rotation on LA AM radio when I started listening in 1962, “Party Lights”
I see the lights
I see the party lights,
They red and blue and gree–heen,
Everybody in the crowd is there,
But you won’t let me make the scene.
I’ve had too much fun in my life to remember the female singer’s name or group, it was definitely in the pre-Beatles, Motown/doo-wop vein of rock and roll. Moderately slow in the overall lyrics, yet with faster stuff happening underneath in the music. And the way the background singers got a syncopated second “make the” in the last line.
For me, it perfectly captures the sort of petulant jealousy of someone who thinks that life is passing them by.
I guess one just learns that the ties that bind are fraying, fraying..you know, that john lennon quote, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”
Bet your friend in Minneapolis felt bad that they couldn’t be nearby.
Well, fortunately, you got the help you needed
oh yeah.. do you buhleeve these two pols.. that whole C Street gang..And Sanford? (sigh)
okay, I’ll stifle my rant.
Okay.. lemme change the subject a tap.. I’d like the FirePups help with something musical.. a question for you all.
This version?
hmmm, you’ve got a point there
ndfg
Congrats on an excellent result. It is indeed astonishing what laser surgery can do. Doesn’t seem so long ago people w/retina problems were immobilized for weeks (months?)
(deep breath here..) Here’s the q: some of us MoveOn/DFA/HCAN/PDA/HC4A health reform in-the-streets activists are trying to come up with a new or recycled song to help push the health care legislation. Some groups are starting to add music to their rallies, to keep the reform supporters engaged, give them something to latch onto and sing. You know, like in the 60’s.. One of our guys — a VA doc doing OT with recently-returned war vets –wants something catchy. he even reached out to Peter Yarrow for insight/help.
I stumbled on Cat Stevens old Peace train.. and by changing the word ‘Peace’ to ‘Health’.. it might just work? What do you think? Some local musicians and a few public radio stations are warming to it.
here’s dolly’s cover of it , with Ladysmith Black Mombasa:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mO84xt_ydB8
(holding my breath here and thinking I’m now a buzz kill.. if i am, by posting this question.. forgive me, please??)
Saw Frampton at the ‘76 DOTG and remember thinking (between bouts of holding my girlfriends hair while she chirped into our cooler) that is wasn’t the first time I had heard that sound.
STOMP (the whole stomp, nothing but the stomp, glory glory);)
My son’s very fundy church wouldn’t let the kids perform this song. A shame, they loved it and really had good voices.
I somehow made it through Bay Area adolescence in the 70s without attending a single Day on the Green… your experience validates that!
Hey, that’s a total legit song and question. I also believe an anthem would just NOT HURT!
I’ve always loved how “We Shall Overcome Someday” drives wingers crazy; but I think we need a new anthem, but I’ll be dinged if I can come up with it.
Well, there were dark moments, too.
Buzz kill? Far from it… unfortunately I’ve hit the wall. Hope to muddle over that idea with you and the pups sometime soon.
Good night firedogs.
But then again I just love that verse:
We Are Not Afraid
We Are Not Afraid Today,
Deep In My Heart,
I do believe
We Shall Overcome Some Day
nite eureka
the 06 elections had a great catchy tune put together by the Squirrel Nut Zippers, “Had Enough,” which they let local campaigns adapt for tv ads. It was a great success, iirc
Thanks Kelly.. yeah, I’m kinda dinged too. And the reformers are really startin to come out now, spurred on by the teabaggers’ craziness to which has now been added the sinister 2nd Amendment-”Ah got me mah gun rye cheer” crowd. I wish I could some how (gulp) channel Bruce.. and ask him to step up and weigh in on this. He’d been so involved with the presidential campaign and all.. and he did just do yeoman service at Pete Seeger’s 90th birthday bash at MSG.
When this topic came up in meeting, in long FB chatters.. everybody got all wistful about ‘We Shall Overcome’ and remembering their trips to the deep south for voter registration drives..
Somehow, we need to summon that level of .. ahem plaintive rage. If only to drown out the teabaggers’ litanies..
(deep breath)
Hmm.. “Had Enough” .. yeah. that might work.. and get the younger people engaged who are now joining us more and more at rallies. Hmm.. Let me find that. Good idea, ndfg..
And thanks Kelly!
Good night, Eureka Springs! and thank you for you, a kind welcome.. next time?
C.Mon Gal.
Stones.
Gimme Shelter.
And fuck the fuckin fucks, methinks?
*G*
I can’t believe it, there’s a prog out there who’s a YMSB fan!!!
WOOT!!! ‘
*G*
bleuZ, if you click on the embedded link, the youtube lists several other “had enoughs”, ones that were used for different tv ads.
another option is to find some of the talented hip-hop youngsters who do stuff like that wonderful “Yes we can” organized by will.i.am., which i found very moving.
Really?
All that acoustic hippie jam grass stuff?
Really?
Bless ya for that!!! *G*
OH fer cryin out loud, get a couple of dobro’s, tune one to D, one to G, and pick and slide yer heart out.
Yer killin me . .. LOL
Ya know what.. that might work, esp with the call and response part, ‘Have ya had enough?’ “yeah yeah..” it’s got a great beat that folks would just stomp to, keep em fired up, and maybe giggle with the jaunty melody.
((did she just say ‘jaunty?’ this one needs either more coffee–even though it’s 3AM here — or sleep, pronto.))
I’ll send this up the chain and see if they think it might work. Hmm. Cool beans.
Thank you, ndfg!!
the only trouble with the Stones, Larue, is i got kinda tired of hearing that song & others of that ilk after the 2,758,999th time for each on the various classic rock stations that play in the press rooms wherever i’ve worked. There’s a lotta good music out there that hasn’t been played to a point of absolute mummification.
Funny you should say that.
I pulled out old Stones recently – Between The Buttons and Aftermath – listening to them in album format, it was like they were fresh again.
No, you just have to know how to roll, chuck, fill, and lead.
And tune.
Other n that, playin a banjo or any OTHER instrument, is a snap.
LOL
NOT!
Good banjo is hard to come by. I’m a dobro picker, and it’s not been easy to learn.
But music’s GOOD, goldangit!!!
KD, I’m a Peninsula Boy, and Los Tubos are grand.
So, grand.
GRAND! *G*
Lord I miss them . ..
You’re right. I’d completely forgotten about the will.i.am work.. and the video of speaks to many people. And ( lightbulb) we are trying to get BO’s agenda done…
You’re right.. Okay.. I’ve got two to send up the chain, now, thanks to you!
Take a bow, ndfg!!
I’d been pawing through my old folkie songbooks, diggin diggin.. We need new voices, tap into and raise up a new gen of people who will say “now wait a minute, that ain’t right”
And know what, I’m fadin’ fast here, doing more backspacing over typos than typing.. I’d better call it a night my self here. You gave me some great ideas, here!
Thank YOU!!!!! :-D (( ))
yanno, i bet if i pulled out some of their old stuff that doesn’t get played to death on the moldy-oldie stations around here, i’d probably fall in love with ‘em again.
NDFG, remind me to stay on yer good side.
And ask Betsy for copies of what I sent . . .
If ya like teh acoustic newtype grass . . . and pickin with with real hands and harmomy with real voices. *G*
thank you! well, my 20-something daughter and her bestie are ardent Obama supporters and that’s the kind of stuff the new generation of activists love. They’ve taught me to love a lot of hip-hop.
I have had my fill of trying very hard to like Steel Wheels and heck, that’s about 20 years old.
Heysoos Phookin Marimbas did you live in San Mateo and to to Aragon High School?
Pot Roast!!! *G*
Hey FirePups??
I’m gonna call it a night. Ndfg gave me some good ideas to work with. go ‘head, take another bow, k? :-)
Squirrel Nut Zipper “Had Enough” and will.i.am’s “yes we can.”
So friends, I’ll say g’nite.
Thanks again for the hello back, Newton! and thanks too, Kelly! Sorry, Larue — catch up with you next time.
And hey, Ndfg? Glad your eye is okay! Phew! g’night everybody!
nite blue. don’t be a stranger.

Worst. Music. Ever.
GAGMEWITHASHOVEL!
Yer kiddin me. The hash and the pipe made NO difference in his shit music.
I’m just sayin . . . *G*
‘nite, newton! and thx!
Maybe I need to really tune into hiphop.. I haven’t yet.. and I’m no snob.. (shame!)
that backspace dragon is gettin’ me.. Good night, Ndfg! and again, thanks!!!
Nite, FirePups! Thx!
Let me point out, Humble Pie. Frampton was not all bad.
Yer killin me!!!
Elmore James is old Fleetwood Mac!!!
Jeremy Spencer!
And Emmy and Gram Parsons?
*G*
You need to let yer roots show . ..*G*
Warren!!!!
GunZ, N Money!
Roland, too. The Thompson Gunner!
*G*
Day On The Greens sucked, rock wise.
I was too into Winterland, Fillmore, Family Dog, and more. Earlier.
By Day On Green, the vibe was gone.
But I saw some GREAT jazz shows at Oakland Coliseum, in early 70;s.
Go figger! LOL
Sure, but not for the first three Stones Albums and the R&B stuff they did.
*G*
Rolling Stones, England’s Newest Hitmakers.
Rolling Stones, Now!
12 X 5!
December’s Children.
Best rock evah!!! *G*

LOL
late entry:
Talking Heads – Crosseyed & Painless
We have a surprise for you, I think.
This scene is from the final episode of The West Wing. Pay close attention starting at about 1:17.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlroX780pe8
And you are welcome.
good ghod larue, LIKE THE NEW GRASS STUFF? My fave radio show is “String theory.”. If betsy’s schedule frees up a bit plus frees up a bit from the pain, i’ll ask for copies.
and whatever did you mean by staying on my good side? *blinks innocently.* I had nothing to do with those tacks someone glued to your chair.
Short People by Randy Newman

[snip]
punaise! as long as we’re all youtubing like crazy tonight, here’s one for Monsieur Louis! He’s not nearly as handsome, but he is talented *g*
Attaturk is upstairs!
The means are the end
Rodney Crowell, The Man In Me
“White Punks on Dope” works as well.
Another for the teabaggers: Ship of Fools, by the Grateful Dead.
I’d like to suggest the regulars from the playlist I’d listen to to get my head geared up for working in my school’s Dean’s Office — the emotional tone seems to be about the same:
Dead Kennedys — Holiday in Cambodia
Elvis Costello — Goon Squad
Living Color — Cult of Personality
The Clash — Police and Thieves
too funny…
good choices!
Yes, that must be the one, thanks very much. I hadn’t actually heard it in many years and my musical memory may have re-arranged it slightly, but that tone of “petulant jealousy” is, I think, right on target.
Thanks.
Will add them later this afternoon.
It’s right on the Soundtrack / playlist now..)
And or Dire Wolf.
I’m flattered. Thanks.
