“In the second quarter of 2009, GS paid its employees $6.65 billion and announced a total bonus pool for the first half of $11.4bn. Dividends were in the range of $180 million.”

So do all these numbers cover the same time period? And are dividends the sole measure of success that traders are judged by? These numbers are astounding regardless, but I’d like to understand them a little better.

Time Magazine is part of the MSM. So it is natural that it would do a puff piece on Blankfein. The MSM is about bread and circuses, infotainment and propaganda. The truth about Goldman is that it is a purely predatory entity, it serves no useful market function, its gaming and rigging of markets results in market instability and great wealth destruction to others. It simply shouldn’t be allowed to exist. And let’s face it, it is pretty damn easy to be the smartest guys in the room when the government bails you out to the tune of tens of billions everytime you fuck up.

Last week a wonderful article detailing Newt Gingrich’s no doubt heartfelt conversion to the Catholic Church. This week a tongue bath for Lloyd Blankfein. I’m glad Time is around to let us peasants know how lucky we are to breathe the same air as these Gods.

That attitude (or a variant) has been around for years. Think Ed Meese as “struggling middle class making $100k” during the REagan years

I am reminded of a quote that didn’t get much notice, except from me, I guess. A reporter was talking with an uber-wealthy woman somewhere in Ventura County, who was complaining about having to pay taxes for the illegals who do all the work in the agriculture industry up there.

“Maybe”, she said, “they shouldn’t live here if they don’t make $140,000 a year”.
