An update on the cross-country Teabagging from CNN.
Hundreds of people turned out for a series of weekend events as the Tea Party Express cruised across northern Nevada.
The caravan of tour buses, RVs, cargo trucks and SUVs kicked off a cross-country tour Friday in Sacramento, California, and plans on holding events in 33 cities en route to Washington, D.C. for what organizers hope will be a big rally on September 12.
RVs, trucks and SUVs. Sounds about right.
At an event Saturday in Winnemucca, Nevada, Carolyn Rowe came to the tea party in a T-shirt depicting Obama as the joker from "Batman." In place of the familiar "Hope" logo of Obama’s campaign was the word "Joke."
She says she is concerned about the number of so-called "czars" in the Obama administration and she fears losing her choice of doctor if health care reform passes.
"I believe he’s trouncing the Constitution and taking control of our country in a direction we don’t want," says Rowe, from beneath a wide brimmed straw hat. "I think he has a hidden agenda, and I think he doesn’t tell the truth and that in itself bothers me."
So to review, George W. Bush started a war on false pretenses, illegally spied on American citizens, held people without warrants and tortured them, ginned up phony terror warnings for political gain, pissed on the Geneva Conventions and led the universe in signing statements — but Obama’s "trouncing the Constitution" because he wants everyone to have access to health care. Interesting.
Husband-and-wife team Barbara and Pete Jones drove up from Reno, Nevada. Barbara’s red T-shirt said "Impeach Everyone," but she said Obama is first on her list.

The Joneses, who are in their 60s, have never been what they call "protesting people" before, but they think the tea party movement is picking up speed and they are happy to be spending their Saturday afternoon out the blazing midday sun of the Winners Casino parking lot. They even made a sign that reads, "Don’t borrow, tax and spend our children’s future."
I guess the Joneses missed the past 28 years during which Ronald Reagan borrowed and spent their children’s future, followed by George H.W. Bush’s borrowing and spending even more of their children’s future — only to be topped by George W. Bush’s all-time record breaking borrowing and spending of their children’s future. Little late to the party, I guess.
Later Saturday the tour arrives at a park in Elko, Nevada, where Johnny Burwell minces no words. His sign (and just about everyone has a sign) reads, "I will not be a socialist." He holds it up between the tines of a pitchfork.
"They want to make us a socialist state." He says, "I got a good life I don’t want em messing it up."
Fear not, Johnny. Our dreams of a socialist state, though quite elaborate and extensive, will not interfere with your doublewide, ’86 F-350, or twenty-five cent Happy Hour hot wings at Hooters — in any way.

This is a sad commentary on the press.
The press is just plain sad. Today I was listening to an antiwar.com inteview with Gareth Porter, remembering that when Tom Ricks was here in a book salon, he badmouthed Porter. Another commenter asked why and Ricks responded that he’d once tried to track down something Porter said and found that it was inaccurate. WOW, just WOW. Imagine if the WaPoo fired Ricks after just one inaccuracy. What a grand new world that would be.

Doing well myself. Got a chronic swelling on my right knee that might need to be medically treated if it doesn’t go away in a couple of weeks. (Surgery in 1970s predicted arthritis, so I think I’ve gotten away with murder so far.)

Of course that is a false dichotomy, HOWEVER, the fact that the tea-baggers are idiots does not mean that Obama is without fault, particularly in light of his continuation of most of the Bush junta’s national security policies. Compared to Bush, Obama might be the lesser of evils but that still leaves a LOT to be desired.
I agree with you completely. And yet you heard and do hear the right-wingers going on and on about the supposed liberal media bias. If we could get them to listen to reason and show them instances like this that pop up over and over again, maybe they would then see where the real bias is.

Well I would expect nothing less from Winnemucca and Elko – that part of the state is so deep-red it looks like northern Alabama on electoral maps. (McCain carried Elko County 68-28, and Humboldt County 63-34.)
Of course, the protest they had in Reno (which now has a decided leftward tilt) was scheduled for the middle of the afternoon on the last Friday of the month. Makes me wonder how all the “hard-working patriots” who showed up managed to get time off from their jobs to protest?
Two of his major campaign pledges involved ending the war(s) and reforming health care. He appears to have gone quite flaccid on both counts.
How much does all this cost? Gas for the buses, surely they’re not letting anyone go hungry, gotta put some folks in hotels night after night, this must be running into serious bucks!

As for Af-Pak, O’s campaing promise was to widen the war by increasing drone assassinations in Pak. He exceeded his campaing promise by launching the U.S. third (by proxy) war against Islam, creating 2 million more refugees in the process.
Torture hasn’t ended in Gitmo, and all the really bad cases are being moved to Bagram or other black locations.
Ever been to Squaw Valley? Took a job there during “off-season” which meant only locals around-no tourists. 5 ultra-right radio stations and 0 liberal. Every local I met was a thug. After 2 months, I couldn’t take anymore and returned to the Bay Area where I am more in my element.

OMG, Winnemucca, Nevada is comprised of a Casino, a hotel and a gas station in the desert not far from the Utah state line. Utahans go there to drink and gamble and nothing more. Talk about going someplace where there is no one to persuade. It’s like having a protest in Death Valley.
I bet a lot of them made money on IPOs and stock options from whatever high-tech outfit they’d worked at. They were moving up there even in the mid-70s. I remember my parents talking about the newer people around where their cabin (now gone) was, who bitched about the state of the road (graded and gravelled) but didn’t want to pay for the maintenance that was necessary to keep it drivable. They also liked to buy big dogs and allow them (and their kids) to run loose, to the annoyance of everyone else.
A friend from college is into the tea party movement and loves Fox News and especially Glenn Beck. She posted a quote about not letting the government take the fruits of your labors on her facebook page. But she is a public school teacher. I couldn’t resist commenting on how the govt is providing the fruits for her labors since she is part of our socialist education system where even those with no children pay taxes so that every child can have a free education. She’s not married, so if she lost her job and its taxpayer provided health care, she’d have no health insurance either. There but for the grace of God and complete, mindboggling denial…
Has the United States evolved into a Tyrannical form of Government?
Is it a government that can take the following (First Amendment of the Constitution):
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances”
1. And prohibit the free exercise of religion through out the various states even the Constitution is specifically speaking to the Congress?
2. And mock the very people who peaceably assemble to petition the Government for a redress of Grievances?
3. And enact and propose laws and policies that have a chilling effect on free speech in public, over the telephone, on the internet, over radio and television?
Is it a government that has embarked on a long history of making promises to seniors that it can not live up to in the future?
Is it a government that is so Out of Control that it threatens to economically enslave our children and grandchildren?
Is it a government that needs “A Civilian Security Force” as well trained and funded as the US Military without establishing a goal or letting the Congress and American people know what this FORCE is to do.
Is it a government that looks the other way on illegal immigration but prosecutes those in our government who conducted legal interrogation with our enemies that provided evidence to save lives in our country?
Is it a government that goes to great lengths to try and reinstall a central American President who broke the laws of the Constitution of his country, which were upheld by the Legislature and the Supreme Court of that country and has a very Timid and Tepid response to the release of a Mass Murderer from Great Brittan?
Is it a government that cannot write a bill of less than ONE THOUSAND PAGES in an effort not to let all those who represent Americans in our Representative Republic a chance to read the bills and have a full and open debate on its contents but are forced to rush to judgment?
Is it a government that picks Winners and Losers in the Banking Industry and decides who continues to exist and who folds?
Is it a government that ignores the Constitution in Bankruptcy Courts and takes control of the Automobile industry while pushing bond holders and preferred stock holders out of the picture?
Is it a government that has over three dozen advisers to the President who are accountable to no other branch of government and are not confirmed by the Senate?
Is it a President that has convicted felons, communists and socialists as his advisers?
Is it a government that wants to take the most effective health care system the world has ever known and “reform” all parts of the system in order to exert full control over the delivery and care of Americans (yes, some parts could use reform but the entire system does not need to be under government control)?
Is it a government where the elected officials of both parties act like the Ruling Elite and exempt themselves and their staffs from the Laws and Rules that they pass to Govern (or control) we the people?
Is it a government that ignores and circumvents?

Is it a government that lectures and turns its back on Israel while allowing a Terrorist state to develop nuclear power?
It is a government that would cost America jobs and a standard of living by instituting an energy program based on questionable science without allowing the country to use all the natural resources at its disposal and without insisting that other large economic powers implement the same energy programs?
Is it a government that seeks to take the end of life decisions away from individuals and the family and put them in the hands of bureaucrats?
Is it a government that goes well beyond the bounds of its Constitutional authority in the Census by doing more than a decennial count of American Citizens? One example is the counting long term visitors to the US, illegal aliens, and others for the apportionment of Representatives in Congress. Another is asking personal questions of citizens that have no basis in the Constitution and probably violating their right to privacy under the Constitution.
The answer to the question posed at the beginning of this article is yes. We now have a very tyrannical for of government in the United States, one that was not envisioned by the Founders and the Constitution. Should we throw off this form of government as suggested in the Declaration of Independence and start a new one – absolutely not. We need a non-violent response- a peaceful revolution – to the tyranny that has been building over the last century and has become crystal clear in the past six months as the government moves faster and faster away from the founding principles of this country. We the People need to speak loud, clear, and respectfully to our leaders remind them that they are Public Servants. We need to make the 2010 Elections the SECOND AMERICAN REVOLUTION and elect those who believe in the ideals of the Founders and the Constitution.
