Via Burnt Orange, while Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) appeared at a MoveOn.org health care event yesterday in Austin and reaffirmed his support of the public option, a couple hundred wingnuts staged a counterprotest. Their stated objective was to…
…confront MoveOn.org in their attempts to further enlarge the federal government’s control of your healthcare and negatively impact the lives of our children, our elderly, and the poor!
Secessionist-in-Chief Rick Perry and GOP Rep. Brandon Creighton (who authored a secessionist bill) were supposed to speak at the event but backed out at the last minute. Here’s who replaced them.
Instead of Perry or Creighton, the protesters had Larry Kilgore, a “Christian activist” and candidate for governor who has endorsed executions for homosexuals; Debra Medina, a Ron Paul Republican and a slightly-less long-shot candidate for governor; and Melissa Pehle-Hill, yet another fringe candidate and a member of a self-appointed “citizens grand jury” investigating Barack Hussein Obama, aka Barry Soetoro.
Kilgore captured the sentiment of the mob. (video here)
“I hate that flag up there,” Kilgore said pointing to the American flag flying over the Capitol. “I hate the United States government. … They’re an evil, corrupt government. They need to go. Sovereignty is not good enough. Secession is what we need!”
“We hate the United States!"
Why does the right hate America?
Needless to say, if this had been an anti-war protest during the Bush era, the wingosphere would be having a blogasm this morning, Glenn Reynolds would start a series of THEY’RE JUST ON THE OTHER SIDE posts, Fox News would be splicing the videos into hundreds of segments, analyzing every soundbite of every speech, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and pretty much every elected Democrat from Henry Waxman to Dick Durbin would be forced to reject and denounce it all week long and The New Republic would ask, "Is the Bush-hating left hurting the Democrats?"

Now that is different. What dumbies.
Oh please oh please oh please, let this be real! I’ve been begging for this for almost 30 years!
BT, can you move Austin to California?
“Instead of Perry or Creighton, the protesters had Larry Kilgore, a “Christian activist”
What, no Chuck Norris? He must have been hawking “Total Gyms” that day…
Ah Texas!
Yet we know there are smart people in Texas. Just not enough to counter ALL the stupidity.
“Yes we can”, being chanted in support of secession of Texas, even if it means a “bloody war”.
Is this the result of no flouride in the water?
/s
Now they defend healthcare for the poor? Listen, can we get the Republicans to sign something promising that they will no longer try to cut or gut medicare or medicaid? I’m serious–good propaganda opportunity here.
On the bright side, Larry Kilgore admitted to being a dangerous extremist; that saves us a lot of time and energy trying to decide what to make of him.
Wooo! Bloody war!
I thought I had already figured out that the right wing hated the United States after the last eight years.
They certainly proved they hated the U.S. Constitution.
…torture…warrentless wiretaps….detentions without charges….end of habeas corpus….Unchecked Executive Power….etc. etc. etc…..
I am so proud to be living in Texas. Where else can you find such a bunch of lunatics? I am quite surprised that Gov. Goodhair wasn’t there. I guess they will be featured proudly on The Glenn Beck show this week.
lolz, the Republic of Texas.
plz. I’ll stick with the Vermonters!!
Assuming Beck has enough sponsorship by this time tomorrow to go on the air…
If I need to leave Texas, anyone have a spare bedroom?
But of course! These are true Americans, unlike the majority of us “fake Americans” who actually would like the government to give a tinker’s damn about us.
That sure is one Texas-sized temper tantrum. So out of almost 25 million Texans, how many does this little nutcake group represent?
Raising hand here. But, only one. No space for all your teens. :)
What is going on with the state school board changing what can/must be taught in the schools.
the wingosphere would be having a blogasm this morning
its the corporate media that would feeding the frenzy. No one but wingnuts read wingnut blogs. But the corporate media, they would be working overtime to enrage the average American and ensure the hypothetical protest was interpreted as a knock against all democrats, progressives, and liberals, even if the protest was completely peaceful and reasonable.
hey… I understand that 3 of the 5 Dem frontrunners for the CA-10 (seat formally held by the excreble conservadem Ellen Taushcher, D-Bank of America) special election on Sept 1 have campaigned on either single payer or a strong PO (Garamendi, Wood, Hampton). The fourth frontrunner (Buchanan) is actually a health insurance executive (I guess they’re not limiting themselves to bribery anymore – they’re now just fielding their own candidates) and the fifth is Tauscher’s nominated replacement conservadem (deSaulnier) Garamendi is up by something like 10 points. Has anyone in that district approached him about taking the pledge? There must be some FDLers in the East Bay.
Wasn’t Wood here at FDL sponsored by Howie?
How many Texans?
Rasmussen Reports in April that “…75% Opt To Stay”

It seems to me that there are getting to be so many of anti-US people of invisible intellect who are so open in their anti-USness that I am a little worried that some of them will follow through. It is not that so many average people are becoming vocal, it is that so many in their leadership are so brazen in their calls to murder high ranking federal officials, e.g., a Supreme Court justice, and getting away with it, and if pressed will say that it was a joke. The calls for murder should be dealt with immediately and with legal force. It is not simply a matter of free speech, it is an attempt to cause an action. The calls for secession are calls for treason, and the perpetrators should be treated accordingly. This is not a political difference to be negotiated or ignored.
I only have half a teen these days. Texteen is at his dad’s much of the week and Cass is living with a family up near her HS.
How many people did they have there?
That’s how many they represent.
I suspect that you will be staying in Texas as long as half-time teen is around. Right? We’ll talk in about 5 years, okay?
I think so. He’s the progressive gay vet who was discharged due to Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Unfortunately, I think Garamendi’s going to win (he’s been around too long for my liking), but he is pro single payer and strong PO.
The othe progressives (Wood and Hampton) really depended on the rethugs fielding a real candidate to split the conservadem/establishment vote. That great white GOP hope was rumored to be Warren Rupf… but in the end Rupf didn’t run, and the rethugs are now without a serious contender there. Not that it would’ve mattered. CA-10 is something like Dem +15 and, with the spiraling Garrido fiasco, rethug party face Rupf is now a national joke (you should see the hate mail he’s getting on Cali websites).

You’re taking the completely wrong stance here.
It is absolutely clear that they *are* ‘on the other side.’ Start asking if the Obama-hating right is hurting the Republicans.
BE MEAN. Don’t whine about how they got away with it before. Start sending faxes to media figures about this. Tell Media Matters. Become your own think tank. Make sure it ends up on Olbermann.
Do it back to them.
Texas actively promotes ignorance, more and more we see what that has sown. Where will this lead? Guns and ignorance equals the Taliban. Bet on it.
I think Olberman is great but I think that much of the MSM consider him to be the lefts equivalent to O’Reilly.
He’s a HS freshman.
oops.. sorry. we overlapped. I type slow ;-)
Yep, you nailed it. Only thing I’d add is
Guns and ignorance plus the right dose of religion to lead the way equals the Taliban.
And that’s a great summary of the right in this country today.
Time for a history lesson. “Go ask George Washington about legal secession. He couldn’t care less.” Wrong! Washington cared about secession during the Whiskey Rebellion, and got an army to stop it. This does not reflect well on the Texas educational system.
“I love the smell of Napalm in the morning”
I caught the leftovers of this mob when I arrived for the health care rally. I kept trying to figure out a place where I could tell them to go if they wanted to secede, but I couldn’t think of a place worthy of them outside of Dante’s imagination. And these people were so butt-ignorant that the only Dantes they would know played football. Instead I just stared at most of them, kinda like you do at the carnival side show.
Yeah, that’s me. I’m too nice to wingnuts.
I have said for years that the only thing wrong with Texas was Texans.
Just imagine how many people would be needed to do that… 0_o
Betsy, you can come stay with us in California.
Charge them with treason and [Edited by Mod. Let’s not go there, even in jest, please].
I did say something ugly to an unfortunate and misguided young man at the Capital rally yesterday. I am still feeling bad about it. So there is the problem – we have consciences and they can’t think to start with.
Way more than you’d think. The whole state is full of imbeciles who are easily riled up.
Except Olberman actually thinks, uses actual facts, and actually cares about the people of the United States instead of the corporations and their lackeys.
O’Lielly is bloviating lover of butt-plugs, racism, and, of course, himself.
The entire concept created by the Rethugs that all they had to do is say, “Well, they are doing it,” somehow excuses them. Except that what they say is patently untrue. (SEE EXAMPLE ABOVE).
Another example of this is the spate of wingnuts calling Obama a Nazi. This is complete lunacy. This is what I would expect from a sixth grader with brain damage and an attitude. But this is their strategy. They know from other propagandists that one sure way to diffuse accusations is to accuse their opponents of the same thing. Doesn’t matter if it is true. They are not interested in reason. They are interested in power: the power to tell everyone what to do on pain of torture, imprisonment, or death. Remind you of any twentieth century regimes? Think toothbrush mustache and a red white and black color theme.
Progressives must stop thinking that being rational will somehow convince the fascists. They must give them the name they deserve–REPUBLICAN. The sooner people start realizing that Republican actions are exactly like NAZI actions, the sooner they will kick these loons to the curb.
Last century, the liberal world got together and kicked the living shit out of the fascists. Please do not let America get to the point that the rest of the world must get together and kick the living shit out of the RepubliNazis.
But, push come to shove, I will become part of the resistance. I will fight the RepubliNazis and lay down my life.
Yes, I believe in rational discourse, I’m a progressive, after all, but there comes a time when progressives must realize that thugs do not do rational discourse!!
Get serious about arresting the people who make threats. They are little Timothy McVeighs in the making!! They are right wing terrorists.
Wake up. Please.

What do we know about Larry Kilgore’s sex life?
Will a perfectly reasonable guess suffice?
I’m guessing he wears a big ole push up bra and a garter belt!
“Why does the right hate America?” This may be true, and perhaps this is meant more as a rhetorical flourish than a description, but, to be fair, the events you’ve cited don’t support such a broad conclusion. If we are to criticize e.g. Fox News for making similar broad, unsupported statements about the left, we should hold ourselves to the same standard with respect to the right.
I can’t speak for BlueTexan, (yet here I am trying anyway :)) I thought he asked the question more as an example of what the media would be asking IF the media were fair. In other words, he wasn’t painting the right with a broad brush, he was questioning why, when the media paints the left with such a broad brush they don’t do the same for the right. If they did do the same thing, then that is the question they would be asking.
At least that’s how I read it. As always, could be wrong though.
Just between us old fat guys, I would think more likely, than not…
Nazis translated: German National Socialist German Workers Party. A political CLASS system that created it’s own civilian defense force (exactly as Obama decreed) seized the countries banking system, automobile industry, freedom and health care, forcing an entire country to depend on it’s big brother to exist.
All of the above is exactly what the conservative movement is forcibly against.
All of the above is exactly what the Progressive movement (Progressive word is disguised as Communist) is advocating.
The mass hipocrocracy on this site is entertaining.
BO’s Hemlock society has nominated Comrade Adolph Waxman as the health Czar
They sure seem to hate America, don’t they?
Under the Bush Adm it seemed obvious they hated the rest of America including any democratic /liberal tendency minded Amrican troops or veterans.
Something tells me they wouldn’t care for Iran either. Perhaps Somalia is to their liking?
All very nice to toss around accusations, but do facts count?
State Senator Mark DeSaulnier was the one among the competing candidates who actually voted to support single payer health care reform (SB 840, Sheila Kuhl’s 2008 bill). Progressive? Mark has 100% voting record from the California League of Conservation Voters and Labor Unions and fought for gay marriage in California.
Mark was also endorsed by N.O.W. and asked to run for the highly contested seat by Congressman George Miller, one of the most outstanding progressive voices in Congress today. So, how do you define progressive?
