They are in bed with SEIU on activities.<br /> They sell Medicare Advantage and want to continue if the program expands.<br /> They did not hear the President Talk about Cut Backs in Medicare to pay for the Public Option.<br /> They don’t inform their members on everything and they lobby based upon “focus groups” which I have never met a member that has attended one.<br /> They have lost membership as people are doing reading for themselves.</p> AARP does not represent all seniors. Kennedy’s Death Changes the Game

The rosy hue in the HMOs is right. The Democrats simply lack the number of people they need in the Senate to get health care done. While it doesn’t feel “good” to draw investment analysis per se from the death of a great senator and statesman, we have to acknowledge that his death does change the debate. (Teddy Kennedy was my first big “get” as a reporter, and he was incredibly nice and helpful. I always credit him as just being one of the good guys. He got things done, and he represented the best of his political leanings, and I totally agree with the excellent New York Times editorial today about him.)

The Dems only have 59 votes in the Senate — and the Senate is all that matters — and there will be no new senator emerging from Massachusetts because of the commonwealth’s law that the governor can’t appoint a new one. A special election is needed, and that can’t take place until early 2010. Sen. Feingold of Wisconsin said yesterday not to expect a health care bill before Christmas at all. Hardly none of the US Senators, or Reps even know what is in this bill that they are voting on. Its not just McCain that is getting surprised by questions like this, it has been all of them. More than half the American population is against the plan, and there appears to be a mass exodus of AARP membership.
