A new survey commissioned by the AARP asks respondents to what degree they support or oppose "[s]tarting a new federal health insurance plan that individuals could purchase if they can’t afford private plans offered to them" — a public option, in other words. The results are interesting, though not necessarily surprising to those who have been closely following the debate.
All: 79 percent favor/18 percent oppose
Democrats: 89 percent favor/8 percent oppose
Republicans: 61 percent favor/33 percent oppose
Independents: 80 percent favor/16 percent oppose
…a sizable portion of our institutional leadership holds all of us in contempt and views their role as portraying us as ill-informed, angry, and all-around miserable.
But, as a cynic, I am already confident that this is the case.

there is too much money in providing care for the sick and needy.
only a country of greed would think it is ok to make huge profits off the sick and needy.
welcome to america
we are witness to the self destruction of capitalism
the politicans tell the folks it is just a recession they know better than to tell the voters the truth
the sad part most voters believe them
and the self destruction continues
my congress person today at a town hall kept saying how he did not want to spend federal money for health insurance but he is willing to spend trillions on our wars for profits. this from a demo.
the whole swamp needs to be drained. they all must go
clean out the dump and greed in wash. corp fascism has come to america.
americans are living proof that brainwashing works.
a republic is only as good as its voters. need I say more about the intelligence of americans.
while europe gets full health care as a right americans go bankrupt by the thousands daily due to medical costs.
and americans are dumb enough to think they have the best in the world. that is the design of capitalism.
by its very design it makes haves and have nots. mostly have nots.
Delta is ready when you are.
U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins offered encouragement to conservatives at a town hall forum that the Republican Party would embrace a “great white hope” capable of thwarting the political agenda endorsed by Democrats who control Congress and President Barack Obama.
Gulp… Really? You’re not funning with me?
Craven and offensive yes.
But is it not also factual?
That in and of itself makes it rare for a Republican nowadays.
Nothing but da facts
The gullible ones are the electorate of preference for the crooked pols. We just don’t suit them. Pity.
Jenkins knows his voters.

What IS it about Kansas?
How about a poll asking individuals if they know the “corporate tax status” of their health insurer? It would be eyeopener for people to realize many corporate entities from insurers to providers are for tax law purposes considered “Public Charities?” The irony is that under federal tax law “corporations in health care operate as public charities with no tax status. So how is it that corporations can obtain exempt tax status, as public charity, make billions of dollars in profit, as a not for profit, and make America and Americans broke?
Kaiser is a tax exempt corporation. HMO’s who limit coverage, for profit while claiming corporate tax exempt status as public charity because these corporations allegedly lessen the burdens of government. This is a bold face lie. They are contributing to the downfall of the economy by extracting vast sums of liberty from the people, while corporate aristocrats continue to fleece America under the color of law. Now some want to mandate that every American have health insurance while using the tax code to penalize individuals who cannot afford premiums that RAPEAmericans of liberty, forcing American into insurance contracts with corporations that have no tax liabilities? Life and Liberty as dictated by corporate enabled by quid pro quo contributions to politicians? Corporate Servitude aka slavery? Jefferson and Madison would be screaming today as corporations ride shotgun leveraging economics to enslave a people. Corporate Identity vs the Individual
Even Nixon, realized this decades ago. Go the link below and mire in the mess. Look at the 990 tax returns available on line, then think!

Good morning, pups. Nicholas Kristof is flying solo since Gail Collins is off. In “Health Care Fit For Animals” he tells us why a health insurance executive decided to speak out against an industry that he was once paid to defend.
Here he is.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cool drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got Thomas’ English muffins and your favorite jam. We’re rather conflicted right now. Hoover was not well over the weekend, lethargic and just not himself. On Monday the vet looked him over, proclaimed it a fever of unknown origin, and gave him a shot of a long-acting antibiotic. Now he’s back to being 100% Hoover. It was so calm and peaceful over the weekend… (Kidding — just kidding. But it was nice to not be a wildebeest to be pounced on by the lion in the veldt every time you walked down the hall…) Have a great day.
As any business owner knows, an IRS audit in the for profit sector of America is a stressful situation. An audit by the IRS is to expose tax cheats. Lets start auditing the 990 tax forms file by these tax exempt corporations in the health services, considered public charities, while bankrupting America? Problem is the IRS does not have the manpower, or the desire to expose this racket for what it is…. a criminal enterprise whose roots go back to the 14th Amendment. Incorporation at the state level, due process and equal protection for corporations who have more standing under the law, than individual and the inalienable rights of men as set forth in the constitution. Constitutional usurpation under the color of law by corporate aristocrats in the lust for endless profit? The enemy from within??
Maybe she would like the next president to be a KansAssian. A white KansAssian of course. (Is there any other kind?)
The racism aside, I get a kick out of the concept of Eric Cantor as a great anything. “Hold on boys, Eric Cantor is coming!”

Edit Button? The list of tax exempt corporations in the health care is massive. We hear the term not for profit all the time, in health care. Not for profit means TAX EXEMPT. It is a illusion! The American people have been subsidizing health corporations for decades, by virtue of corporate tax exempt status. Hey do you ever hear tax exempt status mentioned in the health care debate? No because if Americans knew these corporations where tax exempt, which extract vast liberty from the people, while practicing legalized discrimination as “Public Charities,” they would go “BULLSHIT” This is vile and yet no one talks of exempt tax status for corporations in health care. Maybe a tax liability imposed on these alleged public charities might be an effective mechanism to control health care cost? Incentives and disincentives mean nothing without a tax liability? Too Life, not corporate servitude or “Life Taxes,” a corporate “Wet Dream!”
Would be funny if it weren’t so sick:

So now they’re savaging their own? Sweet.

Just exactly do we learn from that list? You gave the link, that’ll do it just fine.

I find the percentages in this poll very hard to believe considering what is going on with AARP and the opposition to Obama’s Health plan. More than half the American population is against the plan, and there appears to be a mass exodus of AARP membership. So please someone tell me what I am missing.
Allan, believe it or not, I agree with this. Hardly none of the US Senators, or Reps even know what is in this bill that they are voting on. Its not just McCain that is getting surprised by questions like this, it has been all of them. That is one of the reasons the congress have been canceling their town halls…the people have been tearing into them on facts in the bill.
Finally a troll @28. Obama doesn’t have a health plan. Congress is creating one. A mass exodus from the AARP? Not likely. A “conservative” seniors group is offering a two year membership for the price of one if seniors send in their torn up AARP cards. Tearing up your card doesn’t mean you drop out of the organization.
Also, AARP loses approximately 300,000 people a month due to deaths and/or lapses in re-upping their membership. The “conservative” group got 60,000 memberships. Wow, since July 1, AARP has had 1.5 million people renew their memberships and 400,000 new members sign up.

Kennedy’s Death Changes the Game
By Jim Cramer
RealMoney Columnist

The rosy hue in the HMOs is right. The Democrats simply lack the number of people they need in the Senate to get health care done. While it doesn’t feel “good” to draw investment analysis per se from the death of a great senator and statesman, we have to acknowledge that his death does change the debate. (Teddy Kennedy was my first big “get” as a reporter, and he was incredibly nice and helpful. I always credit him as just being one of the good guys. He got things done, and he represented the best of his political leanings, and I totally agree with the excellent New York Times editorial today about him.)
The Dems only have 59 votes in the Senate — and the Senate is all that matters — and there will be no new senator emerging from Massachusetts because of the commonwealth’s law that the governor can’t appoint a new one. A special election is needed, and that can’t take place until early 2010. Sen. Feingold of Wisconsin said yesterday not to expect a health care bill before Christmas at all. Who can blame him for saying this — he’s up for re-election in 2010.

AARP does not represent all seniors. They are in bed with SEIU on activities.
They sell Medicare Advantage and want to continue if the program expands.
They did not hear the President Talk about Cut Backs in Medicare to pay for the Public Option.
They don’t inform their members on everything and they lobby based upon “focus groups” which I have never met a member that has attended one.
They have lost membership as people are doing reading for themselves.
and if you can’t trust Jim Cramer’s advice, who’s can you?
I agree with this post. The problem isn’t the politicians, it’s the people. Politicians aren’t helping- but they aren’t the whole reason.
Might have something to do with how the question is phrased.
