WEEEEEE!
OK that was cheap, but I gotta zed! Now I’ll tell the pups below :)
Hiya, KCD. One of these days.. when the tea baggers have settled down.. As a Denver resident you should consider tracking these MoBoogie folks down. They sure do find and record a lot of great musicians.
Hi, ES!
FWDiva
‘evening, ES!
(admiring the finish on Kelly’s newly-minted zed)
Everly Brothers – Gone Gone Gone
FWD RD! Evening one and all..)
You’re right.
But I need a singer or instrumentalist, but really a singer. What I am is a real good accompanist! I just don’t solo well, but a can back up a singer, or instrumentalist like no tomorrow.
HAR!
Grazie :)
hiyah all.
guess I need to get back to learnin’ me some jazzy cabaret standards. Not sure I have the requisite soul, though. I’m a classical gal at heart…
FWDiva
The way-back machine. Nice one MrWhy.
Still catching up with KO. Didn’t know Teddy had been minority whip–and lost that position after Chapaquiddick. So much for all us evil lefties sweeping that episode under the rug!
FWDiva
Oh I just meant because they must be a interesting group of folks. However, they might just know the person you are looking for.
Hi Sunny.
Wow.. Nor did I. Can’t believe he never regained it.. or more.
Not necessarily so; you could try yodelling….
Bob Dylan – With God On Our Side
I can throat sing like a Mongolian.. that’s it. *s*
That’s what I thought you meant; they’re interesting. I just expressed my “want.” I need a front “human.”
I’m the “Captain” without a “Tenille.” :)
SHUT UP! [howling!]
Abraham, Martin and John
You funny, man!
But as a singer I find yodelling fascinating. Maybe I’ll give it more of a go when I can afford lessons again. I’ve worked with quick changes of register, but nothing like the old timey, expert yodelers.
Did I mention I’m also a city kid? Not much yodeling soul in my bones, either.
Plus, I like jazzy cabaret standards. And I have a decent low/smoky register.
FWDiva
Then this could be you and me kid –
Funny Valentine – Sarah Vaughan
Tuvan thoat singing?
Yes indeed.. I’ve heard folks identify it either way.
Genghis Blues
outside the Democratic captured areas, sincere anti-war activists are really starting to notice that The Silence of the Antiwar Movement is Deafening.
a brave woman who did as much as anyone to inflect the tipping point against Bush’s illegal, immoral wars is protesting the same wars, despite their being under new management.
heard anything about it? not on FDL.
So, write a frickin’ diary and link to it. That’s what The Seminal diary capability is for. You don’t even have to start your own blog.
FWDiva
Great excuse for a fabulous wardrobe.
You definitely know how to handle a microphone – that, I can tell. :)
The silence on the war / occupation issue since November last.. astonishes me every day.
Seems the war on war is on hold everywhere… overshadowed by the fake war on Grannie, I guess. But we all should be more vocal and there is a-lot of splaining-to-do.
There was an excellent diary.. yesterday or the day before. Also another real good one FP on Open Left.
I think it’s going to kick back in… real soon. Evidently Fiengold is really pushing for timelines and exits. Obama will meet much more resistance when he asks the House for more funds and increase of troops later this year.
In a sense, the abuses are a diversion from the fundamental issue.
the Seminal has, on the whole been a welcome addition.
Heh.
(computer) keyboard. Microphone, not so much. I’m sure I could learn, though. And really, with the right equipment and the right engineer working the board, how hard is it, really?
Thanks for the Pink Floyd youtube, btw. It’s really a great tune. Glad I bought Kleenex last week. Is there a story behind how/why the song was written?
FWDiva
I think the anti war folks should attack private contractors, their cost, their unaccountability with a vengeance the neo libs and cons never before imagined.
Troops levels are so low.. if we can make TPTB pull back the contractors.. they may very well have to pull everyone.
did you see the straw poll results from Netroots Nation?
http://www.democracycorps.com/…..409fq1.pdf
the answer to question 12 is very revealing.
Re: The “good” war in Afghanistan. Read this book!
http://books.google.com/books?…..38;f=false
Go to page 15 for the gist of it.
We, the US Imperial Forces, need to leave and now!
Unfortunately, Obama inherited a private war infrastructure, the removal of which, will probably unravel an enormous ball of yarn.
:)
You mean my “unwritten” Pink Floyd a-capella that I put up on the youtubes? No particular reason. I just think that way all the time. Weird, I know, but true. I just despise injustice.
yeah, President of the United States, majorities in both houses of Congress, and he’s as helpless as a kitten to wind down Bush’s stupid wars, or anything else he lead people to believe he stood for.
but sure he really wants to, sure…
It has to happen.. and in terms of Af Pak Irak.. they need to come out first, imo.
Rome took a really long time to build… and they didn’t have Pallin throwing sand in their eyes.
O wait, you mean the REAL Pink Floyd I linked above.
Oh, darlin… Pink Floyd as a group, and as Roger Waters personally, has espoused anti-war and feed the poor politics 4EVAH! So that tune is literally nothing new, and just part of the gig for those guys.
Huh?
No, the link I saw was to the real pink floyd number (in the last thread).
You could re-link to your version, though. I liked it, too. I could see myself keeping that one in my repertoire.
FWDiva
Good. Someone has to keep carrying the social justice and anti-war torch in popular music.
I remember learning “this land is your land” early in grade school. And the chorus of “big rock candy mountain”, though I didn’t learn it was really “cigarette trees” until decades later. Wonder if my parents realized those teachers were such DFHs…
FWDiva
FWD – OK, here’s a really nice concert version of “On the Turning Away” by the real Pink Floyd.
And btw, my favorite line is, “It’s a sin that somehow…light is changing to shadow.” Because that’s what I think is going on, truly.
And here’s the link to my vainglorious addition to this song, back on MLK day last year; Jan 21 2008, before Super Tuesday and at the beginning of all the Primary nonesense.
I meant what I sang, regardless of how poorly, and I still just want what I want.
Geez Sporkovat, you really should start an antiwar blog.
“On the turning away” is a lovely, haunting song.
Margot – I thought FDL was and antiwar blog, for a while . . .
Hi Margot.
Wow… That song is JUST as relevant now as when it was written.
Perhaps the counter song some are singing is: Pink Floyds: “They say that hill’s too steep to climb; well we’ll climb that hill in out own time/ just wait around for the right time…” if I recall the lyrics at all correctly.
Gotta go. Good night you lovely people!
Excellent.
This is me on stage about two years ago with a Pink Floyd tribute band…
Wall of Echoes-Breathe
Great link… thank you.
[wait, not so fast K]
Hey, so that’s you singing?
Very nice. Thanks a-lot, now I’ve gotta go listen to Floyd… and it always takes weeks.
um…yeah.
Great link. Thanks.
I need this book and I’ll be up late with this excerpt.
Hi, Margot.
Sporko: FDL is a political blog, and many things to many people. The one thing it isn’t, and never will or can be, is all things to all people. I’m trying to point out a way for you to constructively advocate your POV. Like I said, use the diary function at the Seminal to link back to your favorite anti-war bloggers, with a little analysis or whatever of your own…you don’t even have to start your own blog.
It’s not just you. I’m getting pretty dam’ tired of commenters constantly telling Jane and the other front-pagers what they should or should not be posting about (suggestion box thread excepted). Guess I’ve gotten to the point tonight where I’m going to start saying “put up or shut up.”
FWDiva
Oops, goodnight, KCD!
FWDiva
Yay! That’s a great performance!
Thanks. It was a way cool gig, walking out and playing stuff like “Echoes” or “Dogs.”
Just 2 more Pink Floyd whorings.
1) I’ve had this thought that Pink Floyd has a political basis in their songs which form a consistent theme, and blogged about that a bunch: Here’s the list -
And the last tune I put up is a truncated “Us and Them” because, well, it’s really how it’s all playing out about the healthcare reform now, isn’t it?
OK, now I’m really out.
Me too.. with RonD playing in the background.
What would Alexander The Great say? *s*
‘night. Soft landings to you.
Hi ES, One for Teddy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8txiACGcuEY
I don’t know what others have been suggesting as worthy of coverage, but I try to confine myself to suggesting things be covered that used to be covered, but are now seemingly beneath notice.
ones of mine that come to mind are related to the Plame affair, civilian casualties in Afghanistan (well covered by Siun), civil liberties developments that are still well covered by Glenn Greenwald, and of course the Cindy Sheehan protest I raised tonight, though she has been persona non grata in Democratic Party circles for a couple years, there was a time when she was in favor.
thanks for the diary suggestion, seriously. If I ever get around to it, can I credit you for first suggesting it?
Aw, shucks, man. Thanks.
‘night, all. The best of all possible tomorrows to you all.
Wow, Kelly, don’t know if you’re still here, but that “short” Us and Them is really beautiful. I really like the way you play the echoing vocal part.
‘night for real….
Hi emerson.. I didn’t get a chance to call Feingolds office. Every time I thought about it I was driving or in some valley with no cell service. Hopefully I will tomorrow.
I now have a list of questions for his office. *s*
Hi ES.
I can call every senator and congressman’s office I want to now that I got a new phone deal for my landline, one flat fee, no extra charge for long distance.
Insert Phyllis Diller laugh here. Aha! ahahahahaha!
They have pissed me off, just about every one of them.
I was flying around myself with car stuff and the Teddy thing. Tomorrow I help can a lot of fig jam, but will try to call as well.
That would be fine, but completely unnecessary. You’ve got stuff to say and other resources/blogs that you use (that I probably don’t know about yet) and a potential platform here. Go for it. Who knows, keep at it and you could become the Scarecrow or Attaturk or Masaccio of “why we need to end these frikkin’ wars”. Oh, and don’t forget to keep up with ATTACKERMAN here (and he usually links to his and other great stuff over at the Washington Independent).
I’m sure Emptywheel will jump all over any new movement in the Plame case. She’s got archived timelines, etc. But AFAIK, nothing new has happened since the last rulings in their civil suit. EW and bmaz do a fair number of civil liberties posts, and Jim White is a regular Seminal diarist on those issues.
Hey, thanks for taking my suggestion and explanation in such a positive way. I really appreciate it, and I look forward to learning from your diaries.
Best,
FWDiva.
Having watched this:
http://unrulymob.blogspot.com/…..-away.html
on the day that Teddy Kennedy Passed away:
I hereby nominate Pink Floyd’s “On the Turning Away” as the official theme song of Health-Care Reform and the demand that the Public Option REMAIN IN PLACE.
That’s fantastic… I really wanted to help out the folks who organized and called upon advertisers to quit buying time on Beck… but my minute limitations would have come into (expensive) play in no time.
that campaign against his advertisers has really made a dent . . . GEICO dropped him like a hot potato.
a success to make note of.
PO or NO
I second that motion.
I think that should be our anthem for this new, post-hopey/changey political landscape. No more turning away.
Hmmmm…who do we know who could organize the “we are the world”-style CD production and release?
FWDiva
Yes, someone mentioned earlier.. Beck almost sounded like he was saying goodbye on his show this evening.
Couldn’t find a suitable Alexander quote. But this might do:
Elmer Fudd: [sticking his spear in a rabbit hole]
[singing]
Elmer Fudd: Kill the Wabbit! Kill the Wabbit! Kill the Wabbit!
Bugs Bunny: [peeps out from another hole] Kill the Wabbit?
Elmer Fudd: Yo-ho-to-ho!Yo-ho-to-ho!Yo-ho…
[Bugs steps in]
Bugs Bunny: [singing] Oh, mighty warrior of great fighting stock! Might I inquire to ask-Eh,
[eats a carrot]
Bugs Bunny: what’s up, Doc?
Elmer Fudd: [singing] I am going to kill the Wabbit!
Bugs Bunny: [singing] Oh, mighty hunter, twil be quite a task. How will you do it? Might I inquire to ask?
Elmer Fudd: [singing] I will do it with my spear and magic helmet!
Bugs Bunny: [singing] Your spear and magic helmet?
Elmer Fudd: [singing] Spear and magic helmet!
Bugs Bunny: [singing] Magic helmet?
Elmer Fudd: [singing] Magic helmet!
Bugs Bunny: Magic helmet.
more famous quotes
post-hopey/changey…
LMAO (with the image of “We are the World” Cosby sweaters).
LOL
Het, FWD.. Don’t let sporko fool ya…. his war on M Morgan, KSFO? radio in San Francisco is legendary. A great play by play occurred in Late Night threads for a month or so… as it happened. *s*
This always cracks me up.
Our local classical station broadcast the whole thing (sound only, of course) one April 1st as I was driving across town. Needless to say, I arrived with a smile on my face.
And with that, goodnight to all. Thank you for your company. See y’all later!
FWDiva
And there actually is a magic helmet in Wagner’s Ring…just not in The Valkyre
Well firedogs… time for me to turn in.
Good night.
Ah, I seem to recall something about that.
IIRC, KSFO deserved everything it got.
FWDiva
Well, dammit
There has to be some way to make it fashionable to demand that OB and the hopey-changey crowd keep their promises. Government should be a way that We the People take care of our own on a large scale…not in random pockets of neighbors.
FWDiva
sporko… vat

re: KSFO scandal.
Hmmm, me thinks somebody is dropping matches around FDL, trying to start a brush fire… as long as it’s for a good-cause, like ending war, who am I to connect dots. :)
Peace. Medical Care. It’s all good.
No More Turning Away.
G’ Nite!
anyone awake?
