Petro! Was a wonderful week… filled with river after crystal clear river. I’ve spent my entire life exploring around these parts… and it’s still amazing how much water surrounds me.
2 Roma tomatoes (per person)
1 cucumber (per 3 persons)
1 block feta (per four people)
olive oil coating
few dashes of red wine vinegar
oregano to taste
pepper to taste
black olives
Found your recipe right next to MAMA Trex’s Mac ‘n’ cheese recipe:
1 sliced cucumber
1 tomato cut into chunks
1 small onion cut into wedges (small)
Capers
Greek olives
Feta Cheese – slice off a brick
Olive Oil & lemon juice
Greek spices such as Oregano & Thyme
(No Lettuce)
We were having Dinner at a fancy shmancy place when an arrogant fool beside me gave detailed instructions on how he wanted his salad prepared (ostensibly to impress the pretty young thing sitting with him).
When the Salad was put before him, he asked rather loudly, “Where are the Kalamata Olives ?”
The Waiter said in an embarrassed tone that they had none, they only have Black Olives.
The Schmuck pushed his plate away and thundered, “Then this isn’t really Greek Salad now, is it ? Get me the Manager, I want real Greek Salad !”
Before the manager was summoned, I leaned over the pretty young thing’s shoulder and said, “You ordered Lettuce but authentic Greek Salad isn’t made with Lettuce. I’m sure you’d know that if you had actually visited Greece.”
The PYT muffled a laugh and he remained quiet after that.
Just wanted to thank you for that info., which I used to shut up the windbag !
Hi Margot, thanks… good to be home. Looks like i missed a good week round these pats. Way to fund and hell raise y’all.
Petro, trout and smallmouth. Just catch and release since I was in a kayak.
Reminds me of a summer camp outside of taos one about 15 years back… I was the only fisherman… caught so many trout I fed 90 people all they could eat one night. Sure wish those photos were digital…)
It’s a small fest.. all free, outdoors, in the park. It’s a wonderful old park with a bandshell, lots of shade… excellent acoustics. Any festival is ten times better in a place like ES.. it’s just a charmed community that way..)
Larue, I have a request.
Who do you think of when you think of the song, “In the pines, in the pines, where the son never shines”?
It’s driving me crazy. Maybe Long John Baldry, but no youtube of him to check. Kind of like Louvin Brothers but not quite.
WASHINGTON – Senate Democrats said Sunday that they were fleshing out plans to pass health legislation, particularly the option of a new government-run insurance program, with a simple majority, instead of the 60 votes that would ordinarily be needed to overcome a filibuster.
After consulting experts in Senate rules and procedure, the Democrats said they were increasingly confident that they could legislate creation of a public plan in a way that would withstand challenges expected from Republicans
So, they’re going to pass it expecting it to be overturned by the supreme court? Or litigated for years? With the public option severable from the mandates?……
Little Chuckie Todd is all upset that big mean Jeremy Scahill ruined his cred. I know, he thought he had some?
Greenwald has it:
Speaking of Chuck Todd and his “30,000 feet” mentality, the superb journalist Jeremy Scahill was on Bill Maher’s HBO show on Friday night — along with Todd, Jay Leno, and Rep. Jan Schakoswky — to talk about Blackwater (about which Scahill wrote the definitive book), but Scahill used the opportunity to take Todd to task for, among other things, the comments he made in his interview with me dismissing criminal investigations as pie-in-the-sky Leftist naïveté . The first part of the discussion can be seen here, but the Scahill-Todd exchange begins with this clip:
Todd’s condescending responses illustrate the same point as the above episodes with Klein and Ambinder: in the eyes of Beltway mavens, those who warned about and worked against the radicalism and lawbreaking of the Bush administration are the fringe, crazed, out-of-touch radicals. While Todd was fiddling around with pretty colored maps and fun polling games, Scahill was courageously investigating one of the most corrupt, dangerous and lethal private corporations in the world, yet it’s Todd who understands and must solemnly explain the hardened realities of politics to Scahill, the confused and silly Leftist.
There’s little question that when people look back at this period in American history, it will be difficult to comprehend what happened in the Bush era — and especially how we blithely started a devastating war over complete fiction, while simultaneously instituting a criminal torture regime and breaking whatever laws we wanted. But far more remarkable still will be the fact that, other than a handful of low-level sacrificial lambs, those responsible — both in politics and the establishment media — not only suffered no consequences, but continued to wield exactly the same power, with exactly the same level of pompous self-regard, as they did before all of that happened. Looking back several decades or more from now, who will possibly be able to understand how that happened: the almost perfect inverse relationship between one’s culpability and the price they paid for what they unleashed?
UPDATE: According to Scahill (via email), Todd approached him after the Maher show and the following occurred:
Right as we walked off stage, he said to me “that was a cheap shot.” I said “what are you talking about?” and he said “you know it.” I then said that I monitor msm coverage very closely and asked him what was not true that I said on the show. He then replied: “that’s not the point. You sullied my reputation on TV.”
Media stars are so unaccustomed to being held accountable for the impact of their behavior — especially when they’re on television — that they consider it a grievous assault on their entitlement when it happens.

Merchants of Death:
Memo Reveals Details of Blackwater Targeted Killings Program
…
The intelligence service commissioned Blackwater and its subsidiaries to transport terror suspects from Guantanamo to interrogations at secret prison camps in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. The paper identifies aircraft movements and unveils how the flights were disguised. The memo reads: “The CIA hired Blackwater to conduct extraordinary renditions” and “Blackwater flew the rendition targets from Fort Perry and Cuba to Kandahar, Afghanistan.”
According to the informant, some of the flights were provided by two other companies Prince owned, Presidential Airways and Aviation Worldwide, which were given special clearance in 2003 by the US Defense Department to conduct such flights. Source B even knew the tail numbers of the aircraft that were allegedly involved: N962BW, N964BW and N968BW.
The flights also involved Satelles Solutions, another Prince subsidiary, which operates a training and recruitment camp in the Philippines designed to accommodate about 1,000 soldiers.
Source B even knew the tail numbers of the aircraft that were allegedly involved: N962BW, N964BW and N968BW.
A little followup: Using flightaware.com, you can see that the North American airspace portions of the last recorded flight paths for the first and second tail numbers, from Sept. 11, 2006, and May 31, 2007, are essentially identical, hopping from Goose Bay in Canada to an airport in southern Greenland. So it looks like the Gitmo-Kandahar rendition flights were carried out using relatively short range two-engine turboprops, which must have had to stop several times in Europe and Asia before getting to Afghanistan.
No more vacations in the EU for Blackwater execs?
Amniate-e Milli, the intelligence division of the interim afghan government was (and I think still is) backed by the US. They were known for torture and complete immunity. I wonder how many other planes were out there flying to the plethora of black sites like Egypt, Greece or Turkey?

Dressing is really green olive oil and lemon juice
Winter Greek Salad
green onions
tomatoes
olives
hearts of romaine
Feta cheese
Summer Salad
onions
tomatoes
green peppers
olives
cucumbers
Feta Cheese
If you think of growing seasons then what is in winter and summer salads…crumble the feta over the top…. really good kalamata olives
if you had it, why did you ask for it?
Capers are optional, more olive oil than acid, Lemon is so much better
Never put lettuce into a summer salad, usually it has bolted and gone.
Well, it’s good with black olives too.. but kalamata is implied when I think of black olives.
And purple onion is best in GS, imo.
That’s almost my reaction. More of a ’snork’ here.
ES it’s good to have you back. Your trip sounds wonderful!
What Fish didja catch ?
I remembered where I had saved your recipe after I asked. Thanks for the tip about real Lemon, I never use the bottled Lemon juice.
My neighbor gets authentic Greek Olive Oil by the Barrel. It’s so light and sooo delicious …
nice tunes ES, especially the first one – (the willfully enigmatic video doesn’t work for me however.)

Welcome to the world of the really serious, Mr. Todd.
Hi wigwam. what do you think of Montanamaven’s story tonight?
It is all foppery. Mr. Todd probably wishes for a piss boy. (HT to Mel Brooks)
From Der Spiegel:
and lots more.
Margot, when I think of that song, I think of one of the MOST classic old bluegrass songs of all times.
It’s been done a thousands of times, by everyone.
And Mr. MONroe did it then.
Google would be yer pal for further info.
It’s a classic. Tells story of life out there, then.
That’s what folk music and blue grass music does.
Tells story of the past, for the present, to share with with future.
*G*
Margot, here’s the wiki, lyrics. In The :iPines
Hope I helped you to answer yer question . . . . .
Hey Larue-that was some post you made to close out our record-breaking thread. Very well-written and touching. Thanks!
and wasn’t Leadbelly known for that song as well?
and finally, I missed your question to me regarding Mark Hogan-no, it’s a different Mark H.
