g’evening pups – how’s everyone doing tonight
hey mary mcc – how’s sac tonight?
sac is nice tonight. cool, overcast, interesting. NOT HOT.
Nice dive, Suz
Whazzup, pups?
I just looked on google maps at Netarts Bay. Pretty. Do you ever get lonely?
sounds lovely mary – larue is gonna be upset about sac not getting hot enough for his ‘maters.
hey funnyd
not really. i enjoy the solitude – i could do hermit real easy and have to force myself to go into town :)
Hehe. I’m such a fan of the Mancini’s Pink Panther theme that i made it my first ringtone for my cellphone. :D I realized WHY i liked these so much as a kid. Purely instrumental storytelling with minimal ‘voice’ work. Much like Fantasia did on Disney’s reruns, it held me happily spellbound.
(and people wonder why i want to work in sound, and why i DJ on top of my pharmacy work!)
hey alias – how ya doing tonight?
Pink Panther has been MrCE’s favorite for decades. Oh boy, the French loved Peter Sellers!!!
hey ce – how’s ohio tonight?
I was cranky earlier from one of the old roomies coming in and being a right pain in the arse today after i got home from work at 3pm. He was getting all his old stuff organized to get out of there. Thankfully i’ll not have to deal with that much longer. I’ll be out of here at August 30th.
This did a good deal to get rid of said cranky mood. XD
So how many of us DFH are planning to see the Woodstock film this coming weekend?
Cool, lovely, watching a Toby McGuire film no has ever seen, “Ride with the Devil.”
I can’t believe that I’m already planning for October.
if i did movies i might see the new woodstock one. there is only one theater in town – tends to show transformers kinda films. i think i would have to travel an hour south or an hour and a half east to find a multiplex that will let me see it and that julie/julia one.
Freedom
not that long of a wait alias.
soul sacrifice
Evening folks.
Relatively new here (about three weeks) and just love this site.
I’ve got some questions. Would one of these “late night” threads be a cool place to ask?
Oh, from Northern Virginia (Loudoun County).
Been hotter than hell for a week, but we had big time storms late yesterday and a long, slow rain today with a high in the upper 70’s. Felt like heaven. Just stood out in the yard for awhile and let the rain drops hit me. Course said yard will now start growing with the rain and need mowing soon now. Oh well, gotta take the bad with the good right?
My old parents are Netflix devotees. They see an amazing array of movies! We are lucky to have three indie movie theaters, so we have not subscribed yet. Heavy winters here create big movie fans.
Nope. and thank goodness. I like this place, but i’m not attached to it. So i’ll be glad to leave it behind.
well you do have that fantabulous trip in october right? of course you are
hey oldfatguy – this here late late nite thread would be the spot. off topic is the topic on these threads.
Belated welcome, buddy
Late-late Nite threads are kinda anything goes…nothing is off topic, so fire away!
FunnyWheelieDiva
Purging continuous bad vibes is a reason to celebrate. I’ve always found cranky to be a reliable compass on life changes!
haha!
Whatcha drinkin’ tonight? Need a little Jamison’s with yer coffee?
FWDiva
hey openhope – how ya doing?
“Blush” – yes we are, and did so most of today. I can’t help it, I get so happy planning this trip. Costume museum? Goodness, yes!
*sliding coffee cup down to ya* and some whipped cream please :)
and salt to check out
Heh heh! I will have a suitcase full of French salt. Years ago I used to buy all my knives in Europe and bring them home in my CARRY ON! Now, only post cards and ingredients.
sprrritzzzz!
And a little twirly wafer thingy…
FWDiva
LOL, now when it’s time to ask, my brain goes blank. (Damn getting old is a bitch getting used to).
OK, most of the questions involve acronyms and such stuff, and I’ll start writing them down as I go and ask them on late nights. But I remember a couple, in fact one is in this thread.
What is “DFH’s”?
What is “707″?
Oh boy, there were about 10, and now that’s all I can remember. Well, it is 1:30 in the AM, brain not only old it’s sleepy I guess.
Would it be anti-social to say we should let Woodstock go? As a young person of that generation I think we need to shut the door on that Mythic Experience. I don’t mean to undermine the importance of the original….just that it’s time to move on,imho.
It’s turned into the exact opposite of what it was in the moment. A parody. A Capitalist Pig thing.
None of the money made on that festival goes into anything other than pockets.
Oooooh! Costume museum! Do they have a website?
Wow. You’re going to have to have a lot of extra fun for us home-bodies!
FWDiva
oooooooh thank you funnyd :)
DFH – dirty fucking hippie – a title i proudly claim
707 – laughing so hard LOL that ya fell off your chair and are upside down 707
DFH = Dirty F*cking Hippies
707 = LOL so hard you fell off your chair and you’re laughing upside down.
FWDiva
IOKIYAR = it’s OK if you’re a republican
i never went so i have no fond memories. i like the music from it and that is what i hold onto – the music not the experience.
cin, cin, dear
Hi, Token…scritches!
anytime you see a comment that has an acronym you don’t know, it is always perfectly acceptable to ask what it means. if it is in a post, please feel free to ask.
we like questions around here
Ah gotcha, thanks a bunch Suz.
Having trouble sleeping tonight, so I may lurk and if I remember more I’ll ask. If not, hope everyone’s weekend is wonderful and safe.
And thanks again for help and for making folks feel welcome.
Really. We mean it.
How was Book Salon, btw?
I truly understand what you are saying, really. It is just that the film looks so fun and has lots of laughs. I didn’t go (my parents wouldn’t let me go and I was still in high school). I just love Dimitri Martin and Imelda Staunton (spelling bad?).
token is not liking his diet. he’s not gonna like going to the vet wed nite to get his dental work done bright and early thurs morning even less.
baileycat is indifferent to anything other than her food dish being full.
I loved this, thanks Suz!
Oh, cool FD, that IOKIYAR was one of the other one.
THANKS! ! !
Although it doesn’t seem ok to me? Oh well, I’m a n00b.
Well, cool, soothing thoughts to ya.
Fortunately, this is a good bunch to stay up too late with!
FWDiva
tis my pleasure ofguy – and the lake is open 24/7 – comes in real handy when one can’t sleep :)
looking foward to reading what you have to say and ask
hey margot – thanks and glad ya liked it
Poor Token. Life is tough all over. If it’s a weight-control diet…I know how he feels.
Hope he forgives you for the dental work relatively quickly. And that’s the one thing you can’t cure with Pupperoni, more’s the pity…
FWDiva
i missed book salon – was putzing and had to read it after it was over :(
Stop!
Hammer time
;>)
Can you send this to him, please!
laughing – he does love his puperoni :) he will come home very sleepy and they send him home with pain meds for the first few days.
i figure it will help his diet for him to be too loopy to eat with a sore mouth for a day or two.
hey db hehehehehe
hiya oldfatguy! I was baffled by all the alphabet soup when i first braved the comment threads … but good for you for jumping in! and there’s no going back BWAHAHAHA *sinister laugh*
a place i found verrrrry educational and helpful was/is urban dictionary ***!!!%#$!! i was gonna do the linkie thing but teh toobz seem to be a bit clogged tonight.
Suze, can ya tell those NSA guys to back their truck up a bit?
hey ndfg – whazzup
hey nsa – get your forking truck off the forking tubes if you ever ever want to get snacks that have something other than exlax as the main ingredient.
how’s that ndfg?
db, usually i lurrvvvs your warped sense of humor and awesome graphics, but those pants! Brain bleach stat! Thats one fashion that should NOT have been raised from the dead.
excellent, suze! If they speed up the toobz, i’ll even send out some of my fresh raspberries *passes the ice cream bucket full of raspberries around to the pups*
i showed up for a while in ther’s comment thread, but dang! Wander off to make iced tea and you guys get HUNDREDS of comments ahead of me.
For all the DFH’s out there. Sorry but today’s songs don’t sound this good after post production.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1WGF5sA-3c
Hi Suz and pups.
hey emerson – how’s the east bay tonight? a fine song dood :)
But he’s dope on the floor and magic on the mic, NDFG – surely a minor fashion malfunction could be overlooked?
;>)
Good night fellow travelers. See you tomorrow.
and being known as the hammer is his deal… those pants show how in touch he is with reality
besides – what’s a db photo without brain bleach? db’s links are the reason brain bleach was developed (laughing)
Wonderful!
Night, Mary McC
Sleep tight!
FWDiva
g’nite mary mcc
The tubez really are clogged, I tried to send a greeting to ofguy.
Hi! EPU’d means a comment left over from previous thread, named for commenter who often left the very last comment.
db, surely you jest. A minor fashion malfunction? MINOR? And Chernobyl was a minor cooling system malfunction. I don’t know what’s worse, camel toes or crotch-at-the-knee pants. GAH.
I thought darkblack’s links were the reason grain alcohol was invented? /s
*waves g’night to marymcC*
tubes seem to always get clogged right before a document dump that is critical of the boosh administration – and that risen torture story is supposed to hit monday. isn’t some sort of report also supposedly coming out this week?
and bongs
Hiya Margot! See you on FB hopefully where tubes are not clogged.
And bongs, very true.
If you can’t trust a reputable former law enforcement official to know deviance in need of eradication from the cortex when they see it, indeed who can you trust?
;>)
Hi Chris, OK, see you there!
lmao – i do have to say there are certain advantages to being retired :)
And only one person commented on the nurse shoes, too – I’m losing my touch.
;>)
Hey Suzanne- I’m doing well tonight. My SO and I just got back from manning a booth at the fair for Whatcom Peace and Justice Center. Across from Border Patrol booth and Army Strong booth. Last year the Army brought in a mega multimillion dollar road show that was so slick you just wanted to BE them. So I was nervous about the location. Because I’m “hot blooded” and watching them harvest souls isn’t easy. I knew it wasn’t about me, it was about WPJC and my mantra was Don’t Fuck This Up.
Last year WPJC let people know about the Army show-Army was just beginning to roll them into state fairs. It was so obscene I called the Mayor, the Chamber of Commerce, the Northwest Fair Association to let them know how horrified, horrified I was a a mother to take my children to the fair for a holiday and find this aggressively interactive military booth designed to lure young males.Me and many, many other people.[ I didn’t mention that my children were young adults who came to see t for their own eyes because they’ve been protesting since the run-up to the Iraq war.]
This year the Army Strong booth was a 10′ tent with 3 recruiters and a humvee.
But I assume that road show just moved on to other fairs, to harvest other young people.
that means you did a good job of shaming about them last year openhope. nicely done :)
Welcome, you ‘ol fatso!
I’m sure your questions have been answered by now, but it’s always fun to have new kids in town.
hey loohoo – how’s socal?
loohoo can you think of any of our house lingo that we have not ’splained? i know i’m forgetting some…
I actually supported Hillary in wanting funds for a Woodstock Museum. ‘Twas a once in a lifetime event.
(And Suz, thanks for the Santana…they still go so strong!)
Gotta go back and look.
You can tell how popular war is after the Bush Brigade by the absence of hummers on the road these days…douche bags.
Don’t tell me token is getting his teeth fixed before you do?!
blows me away that kid drumming was only 19… geesh
IOKIYR…It’s okay if you’re republican means that if a democrat said or did the same thing they’d be eviscerated by the press.
token has teeth trouble too. luckily, he only goes in once a year, is sedated and all the work done for less than the one/tenth the estimate for my work :(
he gets pre-dental antibiotics too – just like me. poor little guy
Oh that is really good.
watb – whiny assed titty baby – usually a term used in conjunction with pearl clutching and the washington post employees
AHÓH, raspberries. Gotta plant me some.
Yer killin me . . . you need an editor, too . . *G* *waves* Cuz you got THAT story ALL wrong, darlin . . ;-) I just came in from worm patrol and walking stick patrol. Fuckers never saw me coming, either. HAH!
Maters are ’sploding all of a sudden! And so were the worms and danged preying mantis.
Gave ‘em hell, today, though, day AND night. Nuttin like huntin and kill in bugs and trimmin ‘mater vines with yer honey. Fuckers never had a chance!
Is this a fuckity fuck thread yet? Am I helpin? *G*
HI MARY! KEWL AS HECK AIN’T IT!!!
(loved yer townhall email, HAIL THOR!!!) ROFLMAO!!!!!
I thought Token was still in pupsville.
hey larue
A Virginnyian! You pick?
token is 4 and 1/2 – his back teeth are way too big for his mouth and he has gum troubles from it :( he had several extractions last year in an effort to help it not be so bad. fingers and toes crossed he just needs a good cleaning only this time around.
darkblack, that’s excellant. I really like your “Steaks from sacred cows, cheap”.
BTW, fuck Daschle and the limo he rode in on.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08…..schle.html
larue! My tomatoes are coming along too. I planted something called asparagus beans and the aphids are loving them. Trying to get to the maters too.
And best wishes for token, Suz.
3 part harmony. Fine, fine work. Saw them once, the FOUR of them, in ‘01. 3 hours and more of music, in different configurations. Greatest show I’ve ever seen. Flawless, start to finish. Got there early, got to shake hands with Crosby from a railing as he was tuning up off stage pre sound check. He was grinnin and laughin at my hero worship. *G*
I’m a BIG harmony sangin fan . . . CSNY delivers.
Thanks for the memory, Emerson . . *waves*
sideways even (spitting)
he goes in wed afternoon and will be home thur afternoon – wed nite is gonna feel strange not having the little guy around
Howard Dean on Face the Nation vs thugs Grassley and Conrad. Give em hell , Dean!
Oh Hell yeah.
I’m so angry about this, but I have to keep cool because I can’t afford to stroke out. No insurance.
Thank you, Openhope…Merely a subjective view through a darker mirror of things that elude light.
;>)
HIGHLY overlooked in rock drumming . . . he was GREAT! Up there with the best. Moon, Baker, and others.
Shreeves. One of the BEST!
YO Gal! Wassup?
Hey Larue! At some future meet-up, we’ll down some scotch and I’ll tell ya about the times I saw them. I’m a big Stills freak (always like the rebels.)
Hi Loohoo! Where are you at, are you the SoCal Gal?
nuttin – chu?
Raspberries, OKAY!
evening all.
hey sunny
hey youse guys
hey suz
Stills . . . I recall as a young teen hearing a story from my big sis friend, in SF.
After a show at Winterland or Fillmore, Stills was found early in the morning pre light (4am) crawling on hands and knees in the hallway in a local hotel, babbling. Made the local news!
Teh White Powder . . . at its zenith.
Stills. I don’t know, his music was reputed to be great as a multi instrumentalist, and all that.
He couldn’t hold a candle to bluegrass musicians in his day. But he was integral to Buffalo Springfield, and CSN/Y.
And integral is good. Never really liked Manassas much . . . . either.
Scotch? Stories? Hoss, yer my kind of DFH! *G* You pick?
hey newton – how ya doing?
Ain’t that the truth! I don’t understand that whole HHS tango from Daschle to Dean to Sebelius. dean needs to wipe the floor with him.
good. warm but not too warm here. you getting some drizzle?
Oh, it sure will feel strange without him. Cindy Loo Hoo is on my lap right now, and it’s just plain weird how much she enjoys whatever I decide to do at any given moment. I have my mom’s dog too. Roofie. He’s happier now than he was with my mom. Now he can run (or sleep*).
Fighting bug wars! Fun day today, me an honey. She was baking goodies to freeze for BerryFest, and we were both sippin and clippin and killin BUGS!!!!
I got yellow ‘maters now growing off the hook! FINALLY! And I found teh fuckers what were eating my basil! Preying Mantis! Green AND White. About two inches tall, I cornered them in one of the tomato pots. HAH!
We clipped and cleared so much ‘mater brush I KNOW we got most of the bugs. And man, fruits galore and flowers galore! FINALLY!
Danged godforsakenvalleythattimeforgot . . . *G*
nope. no fog today. have had clear skies since that heat wave broke in portland.
Dean has twice the IQ points of the two put together. In fact, I’m wondering if he won’t run as a third party candidate should Obama continue on his current path.
Dood, I sing. I BRING pickers with me. *g*
Yup. Northern San Diego County. It’s been a mild August, even had sprinkles this morning.
Me too. A couple of us were talking about that possibility last night. Love to see it. Hmmm thinks dean and Jane mioght combine their talents soon, which would make them either FDeanL or Jane & Dean.
My kitteh is past due for his teeth cleaning… and his rabies shot. For some reason that made sense at the time, we went from the 3 yr shot to the (more expensive) 1 yr shot last year.
Last time his teeth were cleaned he was awarded the red BAD CAT sticker on his chart – coming out of anesthesia he bit the sympathetic vet tech who was holding him on the boob.
You and SunnyNobility are just now reporting???? In from a hot Saturday night, you two?
;~)
*waving to b*
I heard this new guy (new to me that is)
Slidin’ Clyde Roulette
See more about him here: Terrell’s Tuneup
Pups, check this fest out, I love it, been regular twice a year since ‘01.
Check out the closing acts Th-Sun! And some others only country swing and steel git lovers will know.
And some CA stuff, and some hardcore bluegrass/newgrass.
And camping, and 4 days and nights of jams all night long till late in the mornin.
*G*
Berry Fest!
I’m SO fired up, as we MISSED the Spring Fest . . . campmates to see in camp, others to see in wandering and under the streetlamps for jams, gyros!, BlackBerry Cobbler, camp cooking and cook offs, Friday Afternoon CockTail Party in Camp, for a hundred or so with JAMMIN!
5,000 friends for four days . . . under the lovely pines of 4,400 ft or so in the Sierra Nevada JUST outside of Yosemite Valley!
WOOT! :danceicon:
AAAGGGHHHH! Larue, dood! don’t kill the preying mantises. they are predators! not vegetarians. They’re eating the bugs that are eating your ‘maters. And when they run outta bugs, lizards, small rodents etc, they resort to cannibalism rather than trying veggies. Sheesh, i got back to the thread just in time.
yeouch!
bailey cat sees the cat carrier and knows what’s coming. she hasn’t gotten a red sticker … yet.
Hoss, what do you like to sing? Styles? Songs?
*hasMYinterest*
I sing some parts, new to it, working on it.
Hard to sang and play dobro, ya know? *G*
oh that is sweet margot
Wow, I just got called over to watch this band on Sound Stage, pbs. One Republic, they’re kicking ass. They just did a version of of Buffalo Springfield’s song..can’t remember the title but ” Hey now, what’s that sound? Everyone look what’s going down”…our anthem in another life.
We have successfully passed the baton. If this song could go viral we could fill the streets Sept.13th for the national Healthcare Protests. The stage show is absolutely genius.
Just wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the One You’re With was Stills big deal, right? I never bought the concept.
Uh, Suz? No names, please? Thanks . . .
Mildest spring and summer since we moved here in ‘88. Sacto.
And STILL stuff grew wierd this year . . .
El Nino, Loohoo, could get wet and ugly this winter . . . and of course, fires still, till the rains. If they come.
If it ain’t one thing . . . ;-)
Saw a pic of Dean today looking like he has lost a lot of weight. Face is drawn — maybe this mess is getting to him.
I was thinking about this further.
How does Dr. Dean remain independent and footloose on policy if he joins with anyone? I’m really asking.
hey dude
So clever! Dean/Hamsher 2012. So let’s all choose the cabinet. I want Marcy on National Security.
I wish ;-)
HAHAHAHAH!
Jane And Dean!
‘You won’t come back from Dean N Jane’s Curves!’
‘SurfWebCity’
‘Two progs for evrrrrrryyyyy pub!’
Ok, I’m not funny. Nebbeh mine . . .
Jane And Dean, LOVE it!! *G*
sorry dood… refresh and it is fixed
larue, are you listening to me? *frowns and taps foot, and not in a Craig way*
LOL!
Well-I guess 60’s-70’s rock mostly. My bro-in-law plays Dead, allmans, claptom, Feat and we harmonize. You should play dobro with him, he probably knows 500 songs on guitar. He can play bluegrass, but that’s not my thing-although there was an old Dillards LP I liked. I don’t know-Beatles, Jackson Browne, springsteen.
LINKY?
NDFG, they’s eating my basil, and my ‘maters! I WATCHED them! And if they eat hornworms, they ain’t doing their danged job!!!! So we KILT them.
NO ONE eats my basil and ‘maters and lives!!! Bug wise, that is. *G*
For What it’s Worth- great song. If you can find their live version from 4 Way Street-it’s unbelievable.
Really? Kinda seems to me like he’s coming back to life. Everything he’s said all along is turning out to be RIGHT! (Maybe I’m just dreaming)
Hey Newton, when did you slip in here? How are ya?
I think the only way he could be stifled was if he joined up with the WH, but I don’t think he’ll do that. What do you think?
I just love this picture of the Obama gals from Huffpo.
i think dean is persona non grata at the wh – which gives him the independence to say whatever he wants to.
His schedule is back-breaking lately. For about 2 weeks, I saw or heard him interviewed about 10 times. He knows how important this is.
I think as HHS, he would be a knife in the heart of the Republican party, but only if OmamaCo backs him to the hilt, and if fucking Harry Reid would pass-block. I think neither of those things are possible.
But he is great as an entangled free agent right now.
And then there was guest-hosting for KO 2 nights. Also lots of work.
FWDiva
For What It’s Worth.
Not their best song by far, but the anthem, yep.
This An Interesting Version And STORY About Monterey Pop And Buffalo Springfield!
Really one of my fav songs of Buffalo’s. This is NOT as good as the studio version.
Alas, it’s the ONLY version I could find.
I have two other Buffalo favs, of all time.
Kind Woman, written by Richie Furray. Alas, no youtubes.
And, a HOT kickin ass song called ‘Go And Say Goodbye’.
Alas, This Is All Youtube Shows
But if any of you folks have Retrospective, you know what I mean about Buffalo Springfield, harmony’s, songs and just great music. Great, great music.
Steve Stills
Neil Young
Richie Furray
Jim Messina
Dewey Martin
Short lived, but incredible. Bless them all.
He was very good! Pulling off a couple of hour-long network broadcasts? Tough work.
unentangled, you mean, right? Or entangled with whom?
How about Hamsher-Weiner? With Dean as a major player.
I second that nomination! As a matter of fact, you could come up with a damn good cabinet as I read more and more writers on this site. That Phoenix Woman is sharp, Eli,Siun, Tula and a dozen others.
i loved his comment to rachel when handing off to her about how much hard work hosting the show was :)
Cat carrier stays by my door, open and ready to go..
Actually no. He is devoted to Obama’s plan, but he is as unofficial as he can be.
Loo Hoo, I no linky.
Someone somewhere smarter and with better equipment than me is going to snag this thing. I hope.
Jeez, I had to sing you the words.
larue, either they were eating spider mites, aphids, mealy bugs, or they weren’t preying mantises.
He rawked. A little stiff, but, hey, I like wonks!
FWDiva
hers is kept outside the kitchen door – when it comes inside she scoots. i’ve taken to setting up token’s playpen style car carrier and then doing the swoop and grab and then depositing her into it. poses a problem when at the vet tho – have to put her in the cat carrier once we get there.
Hated that song . . . *G*
I’d still want Krugman at Treasury or something.
FWDiva
If Obama wants to get re-elected, he’ll have to axe clowns like Reid, Hoyer, Rahm, Holder-I mean those are easy. I guess we’ll find out where he’s going for sure when the first set of personnel changes hit. If Dean came in as HHS secretary then, I’d love it. But I agree, he’s so damn effective that I like him flying solo in this environment.
Luv’s ya, tanks . . . *bigsmooch* Yer teh best mod on the planet . . *G*
For his first try, I thought he showed uncommon discipline. He’s an odd bird anyway, but he held both broadcasts together like he’s been there before.
Is that you in the stall next door? ROFLMAO!!!
No, seriously, I SEEN them and know they eat my basil and tomato plants!
They may eat hornworms, but they eat GREEN too!!!
Or am I seriously, completley, and utterly, wrong?
*whimpers*
my bad for forgetting…. smooches back atcha dood
I’m with you. He or Stiglitz. Maybe Black? Forgot about Geithner and Summers, damn criminals.
Thank yew, thank yew.
‘Preciate the courtesy laffs . . . *G* *waves*
You know yer old surf music, do ya now . . *G*
Here’s the original. One of my all-time favorites.
If there’s a remix, I want to hear/see it!
I love Dean. I worked like Hell for him in 2004.
But he fits a small but vital role that simply no one else could fill – designated shit-disturber.
He is great at it, and I can’t help but think that he’s somehow loosely tied to someone’s interests in the White House. I would not be surprised if it was Secretary Clinton.
And I want Christy Hardin Smith at DOJ.
I think Froomkin and Glennzilla should stay where they are to keep everyone honest ;-)
OK, this is kinda fun. Is this why some people get into fantasy sports?
FWDiva
Emerson, I found a group of folks here in Sacto that do LOTS of old rock tunes.
I’ve ALWAYS liked rock stuff grassed up.
So I’m getting REAL comfortable with playing and singing old rock songs I know words to for decades!
Stones, for sure. And all those ya mention. Simple stuff, for the most part and lends itself to GREAT part singing in most cases, too.
There’s a hard core bluegrasser guy named Larry Cordle, who’s done TONS of old Southern Rock stuff Grass Style. SKynnard, Allman Bro’s, Marshall Tucker (god I love that band still, bless Toi Caldwell’s soul he left too soon).
Where are you situated, generally speaking? I’m in Sacto . .
marcy in charge of government oversight
One of my favorite bands, there.
Loved Springfield! They spun off into Poco too, Loggins and Messina, Byrds roots, CSNY. Try Mannassas with Stills and Chris Hillman. I played some here about a month ago. Here’s a good one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESo0UvcRBY4
4 Way Street was CSNY, and one of those gotta have desert island projects. Incredible live work.
When Neil Young comes on solo, and does It’s Only Castles Burning, wow.
You can’t GET that bummed out without serious depression issues.
The whole damned two album set and four sides was incredible, for it’s emotion and musical brilliance, start to finish. Even Stills!!! LOL
Yes!
And they never got the CD mix right. The vinyl is much better.
Halfway between SF and Napa. If you can come to Napa, Mark’s there and would love to play. It’s fun and real pretty up there. Pick a hot day in Sac-he’s got a pool. *g*
Really? Good deal. How do you know?
Thanks Loo Hoo. It’s not a remix it’s a new, young band doing it as a cover song. One Republic look like they should be carded buying liquor. I think PBS shows go onto the web after airing,?.
It’s electric!
I have to echo ya, hoss . . . you just named, outside of Jane, Marcy, Teddy P, and others, some FINE fine folks with great insights. They keep me informed, and challenged, daily.
And sometimes, being challenged on MY beliefs, is more important than being informed.
Not often, but often enuff over the long haul to affect me.
They’s good. Bless them, yes, one and all. *bows*
Not to mention the best mod in da world, and da funnest, Suz!
*G*
*pats larue consolingly on the shoulder* as far as i know, preying mantises are complete carnivores. or is that insectivores? Mebbe you need glasses to determine what kinda buggie you have *ducks quickly*
certain albums have to be played in album order in order to properly enjoy them.
i’ve not been able to figure out how to get my ipod to do that. was listening to led2 (one of my desert island albums) and it was pissing me off that the order was all forked up.
I’d like to see someone sound and honest at the federal reserve. Guess that’s asking too much, eh?
Watch this from NRN.
He loves Obama’s plan, and adds some very original ideas of his own that dovetail very nicely.
Exactly! 707 (1st time I used that.)
And for press secretary Seymour Hersch.
We can fix that.
doncha be dissing lurk now larue – i trained lurk (/s)
A Walking Stick of some sorts . . . one white, one green. Seen them before . . . in previe seasons. Killed them, then, too . . .
Not grasshoppers, leaf hoppers of some sort . . . thanks for hammering me on this, I might be misnaming them?
In which case, I’d like to know how to kill them organically . . . outside of using Sevin. Or BT Worm Killer.
Which ARE organic, supposedly.
will it require my putting on those blasted glasses?
Good night.
I am cool wid’it.
I say Black, or the guy Black recommended on Moyers (can’t remember his name.) I think Black used to be part of the Kansas City FED before it was corrupted by Greenspan and Co.

Okay, it seems like a lot of steps, but please try it! If you screw up a couple of times nobody will be mad. Just try it.
HAH! And Jeff Air pics, too! Another band I loved.
I loved their FIRST project, pre Gracie Slick.
That folk rock surges hard in my veins . . . *G*
Hey, Hussein.
g’nite open hope
Absolutely Newt, no comparison.
Rachel for press secretary. Wouldn’t that be a mind-blower?
wiki them, and if you’re not faint of heart, you can go to what’s that bug for graphic pictures of unnecessary carnage.
dr kirk at fda
Short lived, but wow, the stuff they did that stirred the heart.
Richie Furay’s work is likely my fav . . . those damned love songs and such he did.
Kind Woman. Like ear wormfood. Just never, ever, left my head.
And Go And Say Goodbye, too. Camp jam fav, still, after all these years.
Twin gits, 3 part harmony’s . . . around a camp fire late at night, food and bev at hand.
Great, great jam song.
And Clancy. Damn I love that song.
Nice run down memory lane tonite, thanks all . . .
Some day, someone is going to get around to fixing all the terrific stuff that got mangled on the way to CD.
Who’s Next comes to mind. Although to be fair, the dynamic range of the vinyl was pretty poor.
Believe it or not, the best vinyl-to-CD I have heard so far – Wings Over America, and Peter Gabriel’s Secret World Live.
Cannibals?
I see that entire interview. He had perfect pitch throughout.
Well, I guess
I just think some of our faves need to stay in the 4th Estate to keep everyone from getting Village Bubble Vision.
FWDiva
loohoo, i am totally voting for that!
suze, i’ll second your pick.
that too. Especially of the poor guy mantises that come a courtin.
Ok. Good stuff from Manassas.
I don’t recall Chris Hillman being in it!
Wow, what I’ve forgotten.
Chris Hillman is the SCHIZZ!!!
To this day.
Byrds, Flying Burrito Bro’s, and more. His bluegrass roots keep coming out decade after decade, too.
Heck of a mando picker . . .
About 5 years ago now, he was on KPIG.com Sunday Morning, on Please Stand By.
Norton Buffalo was on, too. Chris, Norton and a few others I forget, but who are hosses, jammed it up on an encore, doing Dylan’s ‘You Ain’t Goin Nowhere’, ANOTHER great camp jam tune late at night.
Pure magic. *G*
you headed out?
absolutely
DOD and CIA could sure use a bit of attention — of the incorruptible variety.
But Who’s Next worked because you had to play it at full volume anyway. Preferably flying down the freeway with a full carload, singing at the top of their lungs on a warm July night!
Check out Quadrophenia though. That sounds amazing. And agree on Wings.
kpig has a lot of their please stand by stuff archived iirc
CD sucked. Pure and simple.
I’ve GOT the vinyl. Haven’t heard it in 30 years.
I need to get a record player, and one of those machines to convert vinyl to digital.
Sigh. Only 400 albums, but man, they’re the BEST of the times, and include hot jazz as well as folk, folk rock, rock and hippie rock and southern rock on and on and on.
I got some SERIOUS esoteric grass stuff from the early 70’s that would make a grasser gasp! *G*
Not to mention some old folk no one’s ever heard of. Richard and Mimi Farina! *G*
He is just overflowing with ideas.
None, to my knowledge, involve remaining ensnared in two wars or plundering the US economy, brutality to combatants or women who need doctors, etc.
Wistful remembrances of Campaign 2004.
Mark? Does Mark promote bluegrass fests in that area by any chance? I mean, this would be wierd.
Mark Hogan?
alas, I’m still in possession of Q on vinyl. i can’t let some of it go.
behind blue eyes, dude.
Girl, I’ll have YOU know I’m 20/700, and correctable to 20/30!!!
I got granny glasses and aviator shades, scrip wise. I’m so kewl I’m cold! LOL
damn, larue! Richard and Mimi Farina! I usta have an album of theirs. My record collection is buried in storage … sigh. Don’t know if i even still have that one.
I think Hillman and Stills didn’t get along. Stills is pretty tough and opinionated about the sound he wants. But Manassas would have been a super band with that Santana-percussion sound.
Souther, Hillman and Furay had a good sound, too.
Thanks, newt! Dean always blows me away.
Suz, a compliment is that. It’s not meant for others. Any way. Yer the best. ;-)
May Lurk rejoice in their goodness.
I know only you. Rejoice, sistah. *G*
Preying mantises eat bugs, not greens.
It’s how man learned the karate chop, watching these critters.
I think •••insert carbon-based life form here••• and Stills didn’t get along.
Man she takes good care of ya . . . thanks for what YOU do, too.
*G* LOL
You have no idea.
Heh, faint of heart? I KILL BUGS!!!! lol
Walking sticks, leaf hoppers, all the same?
*blushing* thank you larue
no.
It’s 1:13am, and YOU people are too much fun to leave! *G*
Saw them do the entire Quad album live in SJ when Entwhistle was still alive and dominant. About 6-8 years ago maybe. One of the best shows I’ve seen.
“Can ya see the real me, can ya? CAN YA? (Enter Entwhistle and Moon-Look out!)
Yeah-Behind Blue eyes was pretty flawless. Especially Daltrey.
Imagine a press secretary that could outsmart and EDUCATE the press.
Darlin, he said in his best Sam Elliott voice, I cold burn ya some if ya want.
Email me . . . *G*
What are friends for? *G*
so who is forcing you to leave dood?
Daltry is fine.
But Behind Blue Eyes – who could write such a thing?
I have always admired the tortured soul behind the idea.
And I have never seen the boys perform live. I missed it.
707!!(second time I used that! *g*) You are correct sir.
Damn, there’s another I forgot! JD Souther! Nice pick. Never had it, but know of it.
Yer good! lol
boggles the mind, doesn’t it?
hey lurk – you think we will hit 300 comments tonight? or will that long sought goal be just beyond our grasp – again?
‘K, I got other walking sticks and leaf hoppers I killed. OR, I killed prey mantis I should NOT have.
This farmin is HARD, I’m tellin ya!!
My 2 x 12 patch in our apt complex and our 50 pots of stuff are HARD to tend!!!! *G* lol
Just what I’ve heard. Major pricks can be gifted, no biggie.
Townsend was a completely fucked up rocker kid. (Dr. Jimmy and Mr. Jim) It’s just that he’s a genius. He wrote everything they did for decades, until he loet Entwhistle write a few. His were good, too.
HAH!!!!
Stills was and is, off the sailin charts . . . . it USED to be from the drugs, but now it’s just ingrained! lol
Blue eyes like this?
Pretty organic.
These things have lives of their own. But it is looking like another rather glorious thread.
*raiseseyebrows*
?
You get home baked cookies?
Wretch!!!! lol ;-)
Hey, you’re not going anyplace. All Nighter!!
yes it is (said with a rather pleased smile on my face) everytime i check the magic 8 ball i get busy try later
that’s right! No overtime for the farmgrrrlll tonight, so i can hang out in the threads! w00t!
YES WE CAN. Where have I heard that before?
Bill moyers used to do that when he worked for LBJ and journalists actually had ethics (before Rupert Murdoch.)
Funny. Mine says “Time to order pizza.”
hahahaha
i gotta get a new ball
i’ve had the pleasure of cooking for lurk – an entire meal
In ‘67 I was 14. Me and a buddy had parents drive us to The Cow Palace, Brisbane, CA. Just up the road from where we lived in San Mateo.
The Who. Doing My Generation, early stuff.
Along with The Association, Chad N Jeremy, Brenton Wood, and 7 other acts I forget.
I recall The Who, though.
Busted up their shit and all that.
Years later, my younger bro went to the Cow Palace, to see the who.
Keith Moon passed out, and they got a drummer up out of the audience.
He took Keith’s place, I think when Keith died, later on.
But my bro was there then, for that show.
And I had been there, years earlier.
Rock trivia! *G*
Hah! Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
i’ve been agitating for a Magic 8 Ball for the art dept where i work. So’s we can decipher what the sales staff is actually meaning with some of their orders.
Hmm…pizza huh?
So, do we have a deadline on the 300 comment goal?
FWDiva
I could talk and post youtubes all night about grass music . . *G*
Yes, as I recall, you were most honored.
And you are most welcome.
:-P
*runs and hides*
wow dood
Pourque no, essay? *G*
I got blue and new grass on . . . *G*
And a few thousand songs in the library on the ‘puter.
Merlot’s full, too . . . *G*
Here in the deep, dark whatever region of the country, pizza is, and has always been, the answer.
don’t make me come get you (lmao)
Could you imagine having 6 bands playing at an Oakland Coliseum these days? Tickets would be $1000.
Chocolate pizza?
pizza solves most problems in my life.
Jeez, I must have gone to 50 of those.
I kept the programs, no matter how blotto I (we) got.
I am embarrassed to say, but yes.
But I make up for it by drinking non-fat chocolate milk.
What do you mean?
It just so happens I have some leftover pizza and a beer…and a cat who wants some tuna. May have to nosh because he keeps nudging me really hard.
chocolate pizza
NDFG in da hauz! NIGHTOWLS!
I miss Vaco, Late Night, in KSAN-FM.
Jive 95, Live, From Teh City Of Foggy Nights.
Sigh. I was young, once . . . still am. *smile*
wow – bet they are worth something now dood
wow-they didn’t have those on the east coast. Would have liked that.
If it is Amici’s Red Clam and Fresh Garlic, I’m heading over there right now.
wasn’t that back when howie klein was djing on ksan (or do i have my radio stations confused)
newt! You’re a scrapbooker. I wish I’d saved all of my old goodies, but alas, I even gave away my ‘ol Joe Cocker boots.
Did Rocky say that to Bullwinkle?
Oh, that was hat.
300 yet? *G*
This is the kind of information I need, NDFG.
Oh, that’s funny. Mine does that too. Walks along the back of the sofa and then collapses on the back of my neck. Weak from hunger ya know! Amazing how hard those little critters can head-butt!
FWDiva
Day on the Green. When Bill Graham was all there was, and he did the impossible about 7 times every summer.
It was the only place to be with your bag, your spiked melon, and your girl.
Ooooh! I rang the bell tonight!
FWDiva
No, not as good as Amici’s and only pepperoni, but you’re welcome to it. Spence the cat says the tuna’s good and he’ll share if necessary.
Piled in boxes. But every now and then, I have a peek.
people ask if I have the thought-mythic ping-pong balls from the Rolling Stones air-drop in ‘79, and are amazed to find that that actually happened.
Chocolate pizza:
Pie crust on a pizza pan. Bake until golden brown. Chocolate pudding spread on top. (The kind you cook, not instant)
Layer of whipped (real) cream on top of the pudding.
Grated Hershey bar on top.
Take over, Suzanne.
woohoo!!!
thanks pups. now that we have reached 300 – i’ll have to change my goal to 400.
but that will be another nite because i’m forking tired. g’nite all and thanks for a very memorable thread.
g’nite all.
Ok, this is out of hand . . . TMI.
What did ya cook? *G*
Lord I’m a food porn phreak . . . I’m guilty. Sigh.
Did I tell yas about the abalone honey brought home Friday? From a diver she works with?
TWO PHREAKIN POUINDS of abalone!!
Sliced, pounded, coated and fried in EVOO!!!
I haven’t TOUCHED abalone in a restaurant since the mid 70’s.
I haven’t touched abalone ever, since then.
Damn. It’s good if ya slice it, pound it right!!
Seasonings, count. Too.
300 yet? *G*
Ding, ding, ding!! Funny sets the record on a tiger post!
300!
DING!!
G’nite Suz. Congratulations on hitting your marks!
*G*
I used to support sales in commercial radio.
I hated them. I hated what they had to do. Why ANY of them wanted to do what they did, is beyond me, when there were PLENTY of real jobs available then . . LOL
I hear ya, NDFG.
But without them, capitalism would DIE!
Hmmm . . . is that a BAD thang?
loohoo, that comment was an obscure joke, ie from work. when we’re building an art file and the sales staff’s instructions are more than the usual obtuse, someone asks for the magic 8 ball or the ouija board so we can figure out what they mean.
Hey, I am trying to eat here!
Oh my god-7 in a summer! On Marina Green? How perfect is that?
g’night suze! pleasant dreams!
And in truth, wings are more my speed this evening.
mmmm. Probably good crustless too.
Let’s go for 400 next Saturday night. Maybe.
No, at the Oakland Coliseum.
Have a look-see.
Look hard at ‘76. Anyone tells you Peter Frampton is weak – they were not there.
goodness me. i wasn’t observing the comment numbers closely enough. Congrats on being 300 FunnyDiva!
Inside joke, eh?!!
So, newtonusr, have you always lived in the bay zone?
Wow, the shows I saw there!!
Jazz, mostly, pre arena rock.
I saw all the best jazz of the 50’s, 60.s and 70’s in the late 60’s and early 70’s there.
Ella, Duke, Nina Simone, Mcann And Harris, Flora Purim, Jazz Crusaders, Stanley Turrentine, Roberta Flack, Chuck Mangione and HIS Vocalist (forgot her name, wow!), Freddy Hubbard, Brecker Brothers, and more. All in 3 years.
What an education for me.
Except for 12 years when I lived in Davis and then Sacramento, yep.
Thank you everyone, it’s been fun.
And now it’s time for me to turn into a pumpkin!
Good night, all!
FWDiva
Gotcha. Trying to make sense out of nonsense. So glad I retired so I can actually make sense out of things!
That sounds tasty too. Me and the boy are noshing as well.
nite diva
OK, limited contest.
What state was Toby Ziegler’s ex-wife a Congressional Representative from?
Dang, you’re old. (!!**)
Night, folks.
nite loo hoo
OMG- I took my nephews to the Genesis show in 1992!! How weird. Remember the show not the monicker.
Swore not to stay up with you guys ’til 4 again — 5 doesn’t count.
Congrats Funny. Good day all.
g’nite Funny and Loo Hoo
and Sunny!
Maryland
My last one was ‘83. I missed one and three.
well, i think i’m gonna head toward bed. Early! The way work’s been going, i’m usually getting home at this time. And on not-good nights, i’m trying to leave work at this time. G’night all, it’s been glorious having such a nice long swim in the Lake.
yep
OMG Larue-what a line-up. Never saw Ella or Duke, to my dismay.
let’s see – nite sunny, funny, loo hoo, ndfg
Jeez, we ARE geeks.
That’s a tricky one, newt. My first thought was Virginia.
Something’s not right, Howie Klein had nothing to do with KMPX, or KSAN.
Howie came out in LA radio, I thought? I never heard him, so I wouldn’t know.
NOT on KSAN though, not in the hippie era.
I actually never knew he was ON Bay Area Radio, so you got one on me, sistah! *G*
But he DID produce SF bands, and Debora Iyall with Romeo Void was one of his hits!
‘I Coulda Loved Ya Bettah If We Slept Together’ was their hit!
Man, now I’m back to the Mubahay Gardens and Hamburger Mary’s days of City Trippin..
Killin me . . . just kilin me . . . flashbacks galore gal! *G*
g’nite NDFG! Fun breaking records with you.
For some reason, the line “Liberal un-wed, pregnant Member of Congress” stays with me.
Nah, there were the clubs, still, all OVER the Bay Area, City to Berkely, to Palo Alto!
FunnyD got teh grab!!!
Better n Zed!!! *G*
Hah! I guess we are!
Well that sleep thing is sounding good. Don’t forget to record Face the Nation on CBS when Dean kicks Grassley and the dem thug down the steps.
That was fun, thanks all!
Yeah, but indoor clubs were not playgrounds where you brought in anything you wanted and sat on the lawn for 7 hours.
Plus, they had aerial shows. Remember the high-wire act in ‘75?
Can’t do that in the Mubahay Gardens.
How do you remember specific lines all the time? Very curious.
(poof)
nite emerson
me, too
nite youse guys
Because I can not for the life of me remember my sister’s birthdays. I guess I threw them overboard for good writing.
Nah, I saw all that from ‘70-73.
I’m STILL young, you whippersnapper you . . .
**G
I’m a really lucky person, I was in the Bay Area and I was young.
I saw Janis And Big Brother at the Circle Star.
Also Linda Rondstant and Stone Pony’s.
Canned Heat.
Chad N Jeremy, Peter N Gordon.
Brenton Wood, Sam And Dave.
All at Circle Star.
And yeah, taggin with my big sis, at 11 and 12, I saw The Beatles, twice, at Cow Palace.
I was there.
I was lucky, in my youth.
And now, I’ve been luckier in my later years to see so many great artists at Strawberry Music Fest and Grass Valley CBA Fest.
I’m lucky I finally learnt how to play music, beyond a lap duclicmer with a modal fretboard for 20 years, I’m lucky I’ve learnt to try and sing.
I consider these years to be the best I’ve ever had, and I thank music and my old lady for it all.
I’m a lucky puppy, and I know it. I’m grinnin all day long at how lucky I’ve been..
And I’m grinnin now, as I bid you and all all Pups, bon nuit, for now.
Bless ya all, and thanks for the company. It’s precious, for me.
Thank you, Larue. You ‘ol softie.
