ES! Pups!
Hi, all. Catching up with KO and Rachel. Then hoping to catch up with all y’all!
FunnyWheelieDiva
good evening ES, FD
Eureka!
Good Evening All!
The Pastels. Nice ES
hey chris
What did I do?
;) I don’t know either.
Who’s picking on demi, dammit?
Tough stuff, I guess. I’ll leave you pups to howl this week out. Reading time for moi, I guess.
(thanks, tho. :)
Is Tom Daschle worth listening to? On any topic?
Bloomberg…
OK! The end of a very busy week, new students in a new semester. Dealing with work after a great vacation…and because this is LLN, we saw two movies in the last two weeks. Anyone?
I have as much confidence in Daschle as I do in Obama.
Weak.
Hey demi…… reading a book called “A town like Paris”…..
I’ll dream about the eiffel tower lighting up and the sunset from the Arc de Triumph
I’ll bite.
And I haven’t been to a movie in a theatre in @#$%^& years.
Ron and I have been married for eleven years and have been to two movies. Poor man. He used to go to the movies once a week.
Hey katymine,
My co-worker gave me her copy of Eiffel’s Tower, byJill Jonnes. I hope to start it soon.
Newt,
MrCE and I are film freaks, and lucky for us, we have an indie theatre right in our neighborhood. And we can walk to it!
Our Indie theatre fell away 6 months ago (not like I noticed right away). I have to go to Palo Alto for one.
On the brighter side, our local 50-plex sticky mess theatre closed, too.
What did you see?
One can hope this is telegraphing a new and more energetic phase. I think if it’s true that Obama’s heart is in this — a big ‘if’ there — and if he can summon his best oratorical self in the right manner, he still has a shot at sweeping away all the bullshit and getting something new, clean, and strong enacted — say, Medicare for Everyone or The American Plan. If done right, inspiringly, he could regain his mojo (by demonstrating he could get it done when nobody else could) and then go on to get more of the agenda done. Of course it could well come back to bite him later, but all along I have been thinking this is a man who really could sacrifice a second term if that’s what it takes to get stuff done in the first. Somebody else was reporting today that he had said something similar in the last few days (one term if necessary).
My classes start Monday morning. Ms ET just back from a week in Fairbanks, training for her new job. She’ll be mentoring first and 2nd year teachers in the Alaska bush.
I chaired our monthly dinner meeting for Mat-Su Democrats in Wasilla tonight – the chair is ill & I’m secretary. Health Care. We’re all supposed to call Sen. Begich’s office at least 2X & encourage friends to do likewise. Begich has been less than non-committal about the public option.
Just finished a book “The sharper the knife, less you cry” (and before you go down some path) about a middle 30yr old who follows her dream of going to the Paris le Cordon Bleu cooking school. Her inspiration was Julia but she was actually cooking and graduated a master chief. The title refers to cutting onions.
We had to see Julie & Julia (since I trained as a cook and lived in Paris I HAD to see it), and I might blog about it someday), and then we saw The Time Traveler’s Wife. I don’t read fiction anymore, but MsCE made me buy this novel about 4 years ago when we traveled. I LOVED the book.
ES!
Chris, Cleveland sounds like a cool place to live, if you have an indie theater. That’s a rarity these days.
Why don’t you read fiction anymore? I don’t either.
I may be in the minority, but I think there is still time to get health care right (although really right, single-payer, is a distant dream). I don’t know if he is captured, if he is translucent and policy does not matter at all if consensus can be reached, or if he is a lost in a maze of indecision because running a country in grievious distress is just too much for one mind to cope with.
I would like very much to believe that this isn’t the same as FISA or a sufficient bailout, but I haven’t lived long enough to predict.
You attitude is better than mine.
Whew! Methodology was structured with problem based learning this year. We had Greek, Italian Ren, and 20th century abstractionism. Great students.
I’m depressed as hell about Health Care.
Oh man, I need to get out more. I have not heard of either.
And if I had time for fiction…
hi ET
Mary,
I wish I knew. All I can say is 9/11. I have loved fiction all my reading life, but since then, nothing that is not real has less appeal. But every once and a while , I’m pushed back into fiction (hey, I’m ready now!).
I quit after attempting to write a novel. I began to see some of the ways that writers solved problems on the cheap. That and being on the computer most of the day ruins my eyes for reading.
Hey Margot,
We have great film here in Cleveland: Cedar Lee, general theaters, CMA film, Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque.
My eyes are in a sorry state. Bifocals for years, and I really need to get them checked again. Reading magazines and some books are a struggle…
Hiya, Katymine.
Paris…?
Oh boy can I relate.
You can never really focus on the computer what with anti-aliasing and all.
Did I mention that I have magnifiers at home and work?
Reading Glenn Greenwald’s latest, which is based on one of Jane’s great essays this past week, which was partially based on an earlier post by Glenn.
Rahm may soon displace Joe Lieberman in my lexicon of depraved Dems.
Agreed. Totally.
That is exactly it.
My eyes went from great to Hell in very short order, matching up with my heavy work with graphics shops.
I carry a magnifying glass in my brief case for with use WITH my reading glasses.
ES – enjoyed the Delphic song and vid.
My electro-offering tonight is a downbeat version of a club track that is a real stormer.
I just now watched this version of Adam K & Soha’s Twilight.
The video production is, erm, distinctly Euro.
Heh, heh,
Me too! I bought one at the local art fair that I can wear on a chain around my neck.
Really nice!
Heidely-ho, neighbors !
Wear your helmet and pads – there’s some O-Man slammin going down here tonight.
Hey Petro!
More like “Lucky man” for being too busy for movies … *wink wink, nudge nudge* … *g*
It was my way of having a vacation – books and movies to some place we loved. Lots of travel shows…..
having daily radiation therapy to both my hips …. new tumors….. Brain MRI last week shows more shrinking.
{{{{{ katymine }}}}}
I am- like- so totally embarassed.
Do they work? I need something until I can come up with the $$ for new trifocals. Usually I just take my glasses off and put the book 5 inches from my face.
evening, firepups
Obama gave up on Single Payer too quickly … prolly as a goodwill gesture and to avoid a confrontational stance with the Repugs & BlueDogs. Now that they’ve shown their hand, it is time to sledge them like Tyson.
I still believe that a strong public option is possible, esp. with the growing Progressive movement … more is needed and not only directed at BO, but at members of Congress who are against the public option.
Where ?!! I hadn’t noticed … *g*
Ooh Margot! I’m just the opposite being far sighted. I can’t read anything close to my face, like printing or title pages, and need to use a magnifier to look at magazine and auction catalogs. I know that I need new glasses, so the two at work, and the magnifier around my neck help. Totally hand held.
Christine !
How’s Ohio … did you get those crazy Storms yesterday ?
(epu’d:) The thing I don’t get is, why did they trade the public option away so cheaply? Let the medical/pharma/HI money flow to the Repulblicans, it’s not going to be enough to bring the R brand back from the crapper for the midterms. And with the reconciliation plan, you could still get the health bills through and enacted even if you lose a couple Congresscritters because of the additional ads.
Yes we did! Best rain EVER!!! It was wonderful.
LOL … I saw your Clown comment to Demi earlier … *g*
Since single-payer wasn’t in his arsenal during the campaign, he can hardly be faulted for not deploying it…
And I don’t mean to suggest that he should not have thrust it upon the country – just that, taken at his word, we shouldn’t have expected it.
Now a measure like a very strong public option that would bring the insurance providers to their knees – another deal.
Medicare for All …..that it, no questions…..
just strike out the beneficiary over 62 or 65 yearsand we are all coveredMy Testimony today at the Anchorage Oceans Task Force Town Hall:
This testimony is offered in memory of Segundo Strongheart of Nunam Iqua, who passed away early this past Tuesday, as he struggled to support his family and heritage.
My name is Philip Munger. I live in Wasilla, and teach cultural history at the University of Alaska Anchorage. I’m best known as a composer of “classically-based” music. In 36 years in Alaska, I have also worked in many other fields, including a 26-year relationship with commercial fishing or other blue water maritime activities. I have a strong love of science, and have raised my two kids to be scientists: One is now a graduate of the Huxley School of Environmental Science. The other is pursuing studies at Humboldt State University in green fisheries restoration.
I’ve observed the degradation of the overall habitat upon and around the Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers, as the ongoing catastrophe has accelerated. It is increasingly clear that unless something radical is done soon to assure far higher returns of salmon to these and other areas, the runs will be ruined forever.
Of particular concern is the decimation of the Yukon River Chinook and Chum salmon stocks. I am one who strongly believes the bycatch paradigm of the Bering Sea trawlers has crossed the area from very poor policy to cultural genocide.
Salmon are the basis of some of the most beautiful, long-lasting and resilient of the world’s existing cultures. The Yupik are emblematic.
• When the Phoenicians and others were cutting down the vast cedar forests in Lebanon, the Yupik were beginning to fish the lower Yukon.
• When the Roman Empire and vernacular Latin were dying, people had been speaking a language today’s Yupik would recognize as their own for over a thousand years.
• When the Norse navigated the North Atlantic, the Volga and the Black Sea, the Yupik were expanding up the Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers.
• When a language we can now recognize as English began to exist, Yupik culture was thousands of years old.
Yet, within the mere past 25 years, the foundation of this vibrant culture has been ripped apart.
I have never seen a better example of how cross-governmental jurisdictional problems can be used by an industry to destroy one of America’s first peoples.
Nancy Sutley – Dr. Jane Lubchenco – David Hayes – Admiral Thad Allen – Heather Zichal — and, YES – Sen. Mark Begich and President Barack Obama:
Unless you act very soon, and very, very sternly to end the depredation of the Bering Sea and other Gulf of Alaska trawl fisheries, the miserable survivors of this once-proud, vibrant culture, will soon sing imprecatory, damning songs to your eternal memories, blaming you for their Holocaust.
Sad and wonderful, ET.
Excellent videos, ES. I’d buy both of them.
Evening fire dogs.
The argument against that that I see most often is that it would cost too much… but oddly enough, the folks who say that never seem to connect it up with the fact that nothing in the Congressional health reform plan does anything to contain costs, either. Costs containment not been addressed yet at all. So it’s kind of a non sequitur answer. And so, no reason at all not to have Medicare for Everybody.
*IF* Obama did it to position himself as the good guy, it will tie in to his wildly successful rope-a-dope strategy.
If however he did it to give ground to Repugs in order to get a bipartisan bill, he gave away the farm.
Having said that, American politics is not a one man show and I look forward to Pelosi taking a switch to Hoyer & the BlueDogs. Obey told Congress that Co-Ops don’t make any bloody sense, so that issue is dead (I hope).
Well, they don’t need it. Why not trade it cheaply? It shows they’re all such good fellows, you see, brimming with good will and all that crap.
Echo- sad and wonderful, ET.
The rain was great, however we got a coupla Tornadoes north of Toronto that destroyed over 200 Homes and caused some casualties.
Per Barack Obama in discussing the public option on 8/11/09:
He sounds just like the Chamber of Commerce and the AEI.
How terrible. Oh, that is very bad.
Good night all, and see you “this new day.”
The waste of a mountain of political capital is frightening. It speaks of a political operation in shambles.
That’s a profound speech, ET ! I trust that your words will cause those in power to do something to help.
Oh, I’m sure that was the view and the plan, but that was all before…
…Attack of the 50 Foot JANE!!!
Frickin’ amazing person, frickin’ amazing effect. You guys proud? I’m proud as hell.
Sadly, Ronnie Raygun would be proud.
As a performing musician, I’m used to public exposure when reciting material, but I got shook up enough to have to pause a couple of times. I wasn’t quite shaking, though. As I read their names, I looked at each until I got eye contact.
Night Chris!
Amen.
nite chris
Beats the hell out of me, Petro….
Money talks, Chief Seattle speeches walk.
If they don’t radiate my head again…… I have an even growth of stubble on my poor bald head…… now that was 3 months growth…….used to think I might have hair by Christmas, guess will aim for Easter!
From up here, it looks like he is allowing the Repugs to behave more “fringe” and self destruct … that really is the best thing for Obama and for getting our ideals to be realized.
Weaker Repugs = weaker BlueDogs = stronger Progressives = a strong public option, green energy bill and education reform. I believe they are within reach and that the momentum favors us but it must keep going.
America will get a strong PO.
Emerson !
LOL – that’s GREAT! I will now always think of Jane as about 50 Feet Tall. :)
Gorgeous, ET.
Sorry it’s so sad and serious up there.
FWDiva
Thank you for the positivity. I am trying not to get discouraged and it’s not particularly easy.
I leave that to Hamsher and others with that kind of moxie.
That said, this is not the fight to shrink from. Either we flex our muscles now or we shelve them. We have been here before, and I am not for signing off on ‘whatever Max can conjure up with Chuck.”
We do this right, or we keep the elected from doing it wrong.
Petro!
She’s my hero at present.
Hey Petro! Could you pass me a tumbler of your optimism, tonight?
I wonder if Jane understands what she has begun … this could affect more than just Health Care.
Her hard work can bring people together for real progressive change in Green Energy, Education reform and all other aspects of policy, including foreign policy.
Keep your energy high Jane, we’re in for many tough fights over the next 8 years.
That’s funny, mon.
My young friend has a poster called “Attack of the 509′ Shriner”.
I’d rather see the 50′ Jane any day!

Here’s Obama from a more recent press conference posted downstairs by Greg Levine:
Well, actually 77% of the American people [most of whom] already have health insurance in the private insurance market, say to pollsters that they want “Choice” Between a Public Plan and Private Insurance. So, let’s look at what’s in it for them.
The public plan can’t be recinded, will be their if they lose their job, won’t dump them if they develop a chronic disease, and will remain competitively affordable because it doesn’t have to make a profit or buy advertising or bribe government officials. At least that’s the way 77% of Americans see it.
I heard about that Petro! I was all ‘tornados? in toronto? WTF?!!’ The weather is truly screwed up. Much less this entire weird summer.
I suspect that not only does she understand, she’s been quietly gearing up over the years to be ready for the right battle (and learning from defeats in the meantime). She’s my favorite 11-teen Dimensional Chess Master!
FWDiva
We’re facing a crisis – Millions of missing Fish – from GlobeAndMail
“Between 10.6 million and 13 million sockeye were expected to return to the Fraser this summer. But the official count is now just 1.7 million, according to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.”
During the primaries he mentioned his admiration for Reagan and said that the Republican’s have been the party of ideas for the past few decades. Do you suspect that Obama has been some kind of Manchurian candidate?
I know, I know.
Facile at best. His communications shop sucks right now. Even if he planned to screw us, he should be able to do better than that.
Did you catch Krugman & Rich this week, Petro?
There is a lot to be upset about but turn it into something positive, as many here are doing by pushing hard until our goal is achieved.
Hey there HunnyDiva!
So I was running around the house when I got home from work today. Humming. Handel. But I got stuck on the “Di vegitabile” part. :)
Coitinly ! It goes really well with Grand Marnier …
Kelly !
How’re you doing ?
Well, having watched KO and Rachel, plus last night’s Daily Show, I have to say I’ve had a very entertaining news experience. I particularly admire Rachel’s knack for calling BS without projecting a whole lot of ego into it.
Gem of the week: Michelle “forced birth” Bachmann saying that everyone should tell the gov’t “keep your hands off my body.” I didn’t think that nitwit could peg my irony meter any higher. I was wrong!
FWDiva
No, but I do recall telling some rather insistent Pro-O-Trolls to STFU and let us sort through the guy’s resume, consider his associations with Lieberman, etc.
I am pretty pissed about not being more level-headed, but given the choice – and Naderites can go sit in the corner right now – Obama was the only choice, Reaganite or no.
I get so pissed about the USPS compared to Fedex, UPS, DHL…….
the US stands for United States and the Postal Service. USPS IS a government mandated organization to deliver first class postage to the US and the world. The USPS was written into law as a legal governmental department.
There is nothing in their charter that states they must make a profit. Does the Dept of Ag – are they to make a profit?
That comparison between the USPS and other delivery companies is stupid because it is like comparing apples & oranges.
My grandfather worked for 35 years for the USPS, my father is retired from the Forest Service and uses the same Union and well covered.(mail handlers)
Yer reading my mind!
I rote this comment over at digy’s place:
http://www.haloscan.com/commen…..871467202/
I’m with sharkbabe; President Hamsher!
Jane’s really been the loyal opposition in all this, as well as smart and fierce. I can just see how this plays out after health care has been un-reformed. Because then, what’s next? The economy and Afghanistan.
Jane will be hell on wheels (as well as others, Digby, Howie Klein, Glenzilla, etc.) about primarying the recalcitrants in 2010, and applying tons o’pressure on the lead up to 2012.
It’s going to be a long slog, but I’m with Jane.
Kelly Canfield | Homepage | 08.21.09 – 7:01 pm |
Exactly ! Jane, slinkerwink and many others are leading the good fight but we all have to join in however we can and refuse to be bullied by these greedy thugs.
They might wear expensive suits and drive expensive cars but they are just thugs and thieves !
I’m feeling the burn-out symptoms myself. Feel like it’s been forever. 30 years ago I saw the need for universal health care, from working in hospitals. Won’t do to burn out now, I guess.
Sweet! Except for I can’t type for shit. :)
caro et amabile, soave piu.
One of the things to love about that aria (if you leave out the recitativo)…very little text to master.
My musical adventure today was singing “Shadenfreude” while Rachel reported that Betsy “death panels” McCauhey has been canned by a major medical device manufacturer. Hope her COBRA premiums are steep, too. See how she likes it…

There were 7-8 Funnel clouds that thankfully did not touch down but the wind & rain were fierce. Every street in Toronto that I drove on, had downed branches.
Regarding President Obama? I’m more or less on the long term game. It’s a marathon, it never was a sprint, just like the elections goals of replacing the Rethugs with more and better dems. Feets to the fire on both sides, and more or less keep on keeping on. Any real change is going to be dragged in by the skin of our teeth, and against the kicking and screaming of the have mores.
There’s reasons i’ve been called tenacious (and stubborn as all hell to boot).
Michael Steele is always good for stretching your irony-o-meter.
It struck me tonight that what Jane (and basically no one else so far) has achieved with FDL is precisely the highest ambition of the world wide web itself — truly consequential broad-based community building through internet-based collaboration. I might even go so far as to say this is the single highest and best use of the internet I know of. Speaking as an internet standards guy, that kinda chokes me up…
Gawd, I’m such a geek…
Try some of this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0V-VgRqsEcg
No I didn’t … going to NYT online now.
What’re your thoughts on what they had to say ?
She is changing the debate.
That’s a very good point.
Especially when he gives OB good advice like “you’ve got the votes, go ahead and pass legislation without us”. Not his usual irony, but still.
Usually, he just stretches my incredul-o-meter.
FWDiva
I had been wondering how bad it was up there. I’ve got a friend in Markham and some distant cousins in Mississauga too.
The downed branch thing? All too common here in michigan when storms like that make their way around the state.

Sister! Rawk on, you.
Yes and collectively, the Progressives can use their advantage to push all reforms to the Left. When MSM talking Heads spout more of our talking points, we know that we’re making an impression on those who’ve always been able to rob the Piggy Bank.
I have to agree. And the hell of it is that he has the ability and insight to be a great president. What bigger attainment is he holding out for?
Sent a really critical e-mail to the WH tonight and asked for a reply. Asked why he had decided to not only ignore his base but to sort of make fun of us. Told him that lots of progressives would not be back in 2012 because they didn’t trust him any more.
My Hero, along with Groucho.
As two of the most progressive voices inside the MSM, it’s worth reading both in full.

I’m not saying i don’t recall the Reagan mess – I do. But I also recall defending him against it because he was not wrong. For better or worse, Reagan changed the landscape. It was one of those “uncomfortable truth” moments that all pols live to regret, and Hillary just clobbered him with it.
I do not regret defending his ground in that instance.
As for what he is capable of – there’s a whisper that he’s infatuated with older Senators, politically speaking. If this is so, we missed an entire facet of his personality during the campaign.
Glenzilla’s posting today cites both of those and build on them:
http://www.salon.com/opinion/g…..index.html
Especially when he does his hilarious send up of clarence thomas
Thanks, they are amazing !
That’s a better explanation than any other I’ve thought of or heard.
You crack me up!
Now you’re talkin!

Rachel Maddow’s ascendance to the national stage is I think an important element in that. I’d say more like her please, but it’s hard to imagine there are any more like her, anywhere.
You prolly read this article – from TPM
If Bernie Saunders & Howard Dean agree with Harry Reid, is it better for our cause ? I’ve been without internets for 2 days, so I don’t know if this has already been discussed here.
I should have not said “we,” but rather “I.”
At the time, I probably would have missed or dismissed a random detail like that.
But in hindsight, as Joe friggin Lieberman still swims in the Dem caucus, and Baucus and Grassley are still in his playlist, it does make a little more sense.
Frank Rich was also very good on Rachel Maddow the other night!
@Petro: I’m hearing a LOT more of “our” talking points out there as conventional wisdom lately. Most gratifying.

Glenn’s post was excellent.
“politics is the art of preventing people from taking part in affairs which properly concern them.”

That’s NOT me, BTW. I just like the guy’s rendition. And I should’ve put a language warning with the link.

PPDCUS, how much value (% wise) has real estate in the south bay lost in the last two years. A friend of mine asked.
I introduced my kids to the genius of Groucho withi this movie and they loved it
Rufus T. Firefly: Not that I care, but where is your husband?
Mrs. Teasdale: Why, he’s dead.
Rufus T. Firefly: I bet he’s just using that as an excuse.
Mrs. Teasdale: I was with him to the very end.
Rufus T. Firefly: No wonder he passed away.
Mrs. Teasdale: I held him in my arms and kissed him.
Rufus T. Firefly: Oh, I see, then it was murder. Will you marry me? Did he leave you any money? Answer the second question first.
Worlds collide. I trust Reid’s word about as much as I trust Addingtons, except I know Addington has a spine.
My take on Reid – he will snuggle with and eventually strangle an issue to keep it from the light, a la Feinstein. EDIT: FISA comes to mind.
When the 3 Stooges of the White House Press Corp – Chuck Wad, Ed Henry & Major Garrett start to ask tough questions to the Repugs, I’ll know the momentum has swung far left …
His fascination with Grassley defies all political explanations.
That guy is a monster. I have no idea how he can dig up and craft such amazing stuff day after day. My morning isn’t quite right unless he shreds some mainstream journalist for me, while I sip my coffee.
I’m not holding my breath! Chuckie is especially dense.
But some of KO’s regulars like Howard Feinman and Jonathan Alter seem to be jumping on our bandwagon…and behaving as if they’ve been with the program all along. But that’s par for the Village course…being a Villager means never having to say “I’ve changed my mind”…

South Bay ia s broad region. Silicon Valley’s a unique market because of the high median household income & wealth creation from stock options and other factors.
If I could be persuaded, as I think Petro probably surmises, that Obama s keeping on the right side of the Republicans (Grassley, Baucus {mostly}) so he can say that he gave them every chance, except the last one, to do it bi-partisan-wise, I might be able to sleep.
Tell that to Krugman wrt the stimulus.
We call him Glennzilla for a very good reason. I’ve been really glad to see the recent up-tick in cross-pollination between him and FDL.
FWDiva
Wholly agree with you about Reid. However I think Dean & Saunders are sharp and will lay a beating on Harry Reid in the media if he caves.
I used to go with a bunch of pals to see Marx Brothers Festivals in NYC. 3-4 one after another.
Just house prices in the Stanford area?
Glenn’s post was excellent. I really enjoy reading Frank Rich because of his command of the language. Krugman’s article was as usual, great as well.
Thanks for the links.
Yes. And between FDL and MSNBC. I suppose, however, that Marcy is still on timeout.
But again – spending (wasting) political capital at this rate, on this issue, only to see it swirl around the bowl – i can not imagine what they are thinking.
I said last night that Obama looks like a guy hiding under his desk, peering over the top in the hope that his opposition has just gotten bored and left the room. Tonight I said he is like a guy hiding under bodies in a foxhole. But I think he may be whistling a happy tune, unaware of how damaged his cred is.
You’re welcome — this 2:45 is worth viewing, too. http://crooksandliars.com/bluegal/open-thread-223
Krugman has (rightly) been on Obama’s case about healthcare since early in the primaries. And, he has always thought the Obama was more than a bit limp. Here’s a Slate article he wrote in December ‘07: http://www.slate.com/id/2180178/pagenum/all
Blowjob.
Don’t follow the Stanford market so I’d have to research it.
Marcy has been on CNN since, against Bob “I used to have a gig in the press” Franken. She destroyed him on the auto bailouts.
As you know, that’s the peg by which my hope is hanging too.
You just reminded me of a show from my childhood.

OMG … that must’ve been fun. The most I’ve seen are two in a row … twin-bill matinees.
The stuff that he is doing has Rahm-bo’s hoof-print all over it. But I believe that he’s give Rahm a blank check. It’s almost as though some group owns Obama somehow and has appointed Rahm to be his minder.
As I harp all the way to ‘10 – expenditure of political capital for a battle in which you are savaged by the Left and predictably stymied by the Right – W.T.F.
Oh! Oh! Oh! The shame of it all! Can’t take these DFHs anywhere. Actually, you have to take them everywhere twice, the second time to apologize.
Zillow home market analysis for Stanford, CA.
Foulmouthed fuckin’ feminist me.
No big deal, she’s just starting to look around.
If that is so, then Axelrod, Jarrett and Plouffe are out of the loop. I refuse to believe that, but I cannot argue with the logic.
Franken was having a good old time until he realized he was getting his ass kicked. THAT was funny.
I’m sure he knows that the Progressives are even madder at him than the Repugs. His statements during the Town Halls in Montana & Colorado showed that.
However he’d better switch to part two of his rope-a-dope strategy soon and not wait for SEIU and other labor groups to do the heavy lifting.
I was astounded that he humored Grassley when he slapped DeMint around for saying much less.
Well, Pups
Time for me to bid you all a fond goodnight. Thanks for the great company!

Maybe PBO saw Rahm for what he is and then gave him enough rope to hang himself.
Sweet dreams, FunnyDiva.

You know what – except for Glennzilla, Horton and Murray Waas, the smartest people I have encountered in the digital space – are women.

Sweet dreams to all leaving friends…
That’s my experience too. And their expertise is more varied than guys, generally. I wonder how many have debate experience?
Debate experience may contribute. But critical thinking and the ability to play out a scenario seem to be more applicable.
I was just amazed at Jane’s piece – when was it, yesterday – laying out the whole game. I didn’t see it, and I wouldn’t have seen it, and it was staring us in the face the whole time.
One last link tonight … The most effective appetite suppressant — guaranteed: http://aclu.org/pizza/images/screen.swf
Just remembered a couple photos from NetrootsNation over at Large Orange of a party with Jane and Howard Dean in close proximity. It would make a lot of sense if they were in contact about all this, comparing notes.
Here’s the piece, from yesterday.
The one where she supplied a calendar of past events? That was fascinating. I also think it’s interesting to see when people reveal what most don’t know and why. Her timing on this was flawless, IMO. I love to analyze, but I like to watch the story unfold a bit.
I saw remarkably little of NRN, and I didn’t see any Jane at all. But I did see Dr. Dean’s sit-down, and that was very good.
That could be a relationship to watch. Unless Obama loses Rahm and secures a strong PO, Dean could be a factor in 3 years. FDeanL.
Maybe then. But actually I think Dean and FDL could together become a significant factor in the health care follies quite soon indeed.
That would be alot better. What are you thinking?
We wuz talkin’ over here about that.
The FDL part comes in with both whipping the Blue Dogs and animating the progressives. Howard’s the vision guy and the health wonk.
Obama missed another opportunity to shiv Rahm and blatantly tell teh Congress to go screw themselves when he passed over Dean for HHS.
That is a major loss, IMO. I do not, however disagree with those that say Dean is better working for health care from outside ObamaCo.
I like that idea and I love Dean. The main thing that comforts me at this point is Dean still insists the bill will be passed with a suitable PO. He still surprises me when he says some of the Blue Dogs ideas have been good for the eventual bill, so he might have a better relationship with some of them than is apparent. Probably a lot harder bullshitting a doctor on health care issues.
Actual subject matter expertise… how rare, how strange!
ok, you guys – lights out
see you all on the morrow.
Sweet dreams to ye. Me too… ‘night, all!
Sebellius was unknown to me except for the fairly universal praise she was receiving from the Dem party. Gotta say, I don’t see it so far. This week was just a sham.
But Dean didn’t lose a step and really does seem comfortable in this undefined role.
That sounds good to me. G’nite.
yep
nite emerson
out. really.
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins, Blow and Herbert this morning. In “The Obamas Leave Town” Ms. Collins suggests that even on vacation with Michelle and the girls, President Obama is probably getting no end of helpful suggestions on what to do about health care. Mr. Blow gives us “Masters and Slaves of Deception,” and says that President Obama should have treated health care reform the same way he treated the stimulus package — by personally helping to shape it and push it through from the start. Bob Herbert, in “Voices of Anxiety,” says President Obama may be sanguine, but the same cannot be said of the general public, including some of his most ardent supporters.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got French toast made with challah. We got another ferocious thunderstorm last night, and are probably in for more today if I’m reading the weather map right. It’s saving us a fortune on the water bill, seeing that Mother Nature is watering the garden for me. Thanks, Mom! Have a great day.
Dang rain missed Athens again!
I’d shove some of ours up your way if I could. It’s washing the mulch out of the bed along the driveway, which turns into a river from the runoff from the roof.
Good morning everyone. Have you missed me? Computer problems have erupted and I haven’t been able to be here for a week.
Welcome home! I hope all the computer gremlins have been banished.
Not yet. My son’s working on it and I’ve borrowed his.
