Oh, the Bush Administration, every new revelation another WTF? moment.
The Central Intelligence Agency in 2004 hired outside contractors from the private security contractor Blackwater USA as part of a secret program to locate and assassinate top operatives of Al Qaeda, according to current and former government officials.
Ah, yes, Blackwater — the cherry pit on the shite sundae that is the "War on Terror", all part no doubt of an all out — and profitable — effort to score some politically convenient points in an election year.
And how’d that work out?
The C.I.A. spent several million dollars on the program, which did not successfully capture or kill any terrorist suspects.
BOO-YAH!
Meanwhile…, there are those pending charges of conspiracy to murder and gun running too.
I’m sure this will all be discussed in the forthcoming Dick Cheney romantic fantasy.

Romantic fantasy
Lynn is going to ghostwrite it?
This looks like another revolving door scenario, the wingnuts gave bunches of money to a business that looked like it would provide a refuge for incompetents in need of someplace that demanded nothing in return for holding a job by former maladmin. officials incapable of holding a real job.
OT: I had a dream about runaway drug prices being guaranteed and enacted into law…Yep…and that everyone has to purchase health insurance from runaway CEOs so those folks can make more money.
Im going back to bed to hope for a corrective emotional experience..called justice
Mornin Joe, Mika and John Ridley want the anonymous posting on the internet stopped now!
We are a nation of thugs.
More like a species I think.
How about all those “anonymous sources” the pseudo reporters quote frequently will they still be allowed to “exist”?
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins and Kristof today, Roger Cohen is off. Ms. Collins, in “Shall We Dance?”, says Tom DeLay is going to be a contestant on “Dancing With the Stars.” Reality TV plus politics — this could be the start of something big. Mr. Kristof, in “Priority Test: Health Care or Prisons?”, says it’s time for a re-evaluation of the criminal justice system to determine how squandered money could be better spent.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got lemon poppyseed muffins to share. I am not ready for morning, and would really love to crawl back into bed. Maybe another cup of tea will help… Have a great day.
“some”
But they probably did kill people who were providing evidence against Blackwater so not a total loss. The tangled web of secrecy is stunning when you stand back and look at it. Neocon wannabe toughguys, spies, Christian Crusaders and an idiot president who just wants Daddy to love him.
blackwater, another example of how inefficient private industry is when comparing it to the government programs they’re supposed to replace
But the question is not did they successfully kill any terrorists rather how many were killed “collaterally” ?
This is legalized human hunting just for the thrill of the kill.
It feels like the entire landscape is like a huge dyke with holes wherever you look, water streaming through and not enough fingers to plug them.
We’re not see much change in policy from the previous administration and that is very depressing.
The democratic congress and admin are not your friends.
yup, their goal is staying in power just like the republicans, they’re not interested in fixing anything at all, just staying in power
Yep we have gone back to the Clinton triangulation also known as appease your enemies and fuck your friends.
I sense that if the public sees it getting screwed this will split the democratic party. A lot of voters will look for third party candidates or stay away.
With the republican party going down, the progressives might split and form a new party.
Meanwhile the stealing will go on because the congress is, aside from progressives, all about crony capitalism.
The big fights are knocking down the industrial monopolies in the MIC, the HealthIC, the EnergyIC, the MediaIC, the FoodIC, FinancialIC and so on. Elections must be made completely publically financed and the constitution has be brought into the reality of the 21st century. The senate and the electoral college give WAY WAY too much power to small states.
Our system is very broken and legislative patches are not cutting it. The special interests are not only IN the house but they are calling ALL the shots.
And as Norske says… the Killing Goes On.
Oh, lord. Jane’s got me going to a town-hall in Spring Valley, CA on the 29th. This is Duncan Hunter country. (Jr. now) Am I safe?
Nah, I don’t think the dems are like the repukes at all. Some are, but they’re not representative.
The GOP has completely lost it.
Ewww, I don’t want to be a “friend with benefits” to these folks.
the republicans found their winning strategy;
run as democrats, then call themselves moderates
that’s what’s happened to the democratic party and you see blue dogs repeating neo con talking points on just about every political issue
think about this;
if nixon ran today he would be forced to run as a democrat, the republicans would have nothing to do with the epa, his law and order policies nor his civil right positions, not to mention his visit to china and a few other of his policy decisions, like getting out of viet nam and stopping all that war profiteering
Noam Chomsky has called Nixon, “in many respects the last liberal president.”
you know, I just had a thought;
nixon really was a little too far left for their party and if you remember, it was the republicans that told him he had to resign from office because he WOULD be impeached if he did not
I wonder if they would have done the same had nixon been on the concervative side of their party rather then the left
for instance, was that their payback to nixon for the epa?
yup. i may be a little slow, but the fisa fight taught me that one.
If in trouble, invoke Barney Frank… sure to please Duncan Donuts?
I know it is picky but… are you going to a town hall or are you going to a town hall meeting? The other day carol Shea Porter said she was going to have a town hall but the consensus was, among us, that she did not look pregnant. She also said she “did a radio” and that I cannot even imagine.
good morning to all.
wanted to give a heads up for anyone wanting to follow the breaking blackwater / cia assassination program breaking story. jeremy scahill is supposed to be on democracy now! this morning to discuss it. (see marcy’s thread)
scahill says (via twitter) that he has an article coming on it and that “the ny times piece on blackwater and the CIA assassination program is only a tiny tiny part of the story. so much more to come…”
democracy now! is 8am ET. (i stream audio from wbai, but many other sources). transcript is usually posted by 5pm day of the program.
Barney Frank is my hero!!
And perris…interesting. Nixon was really clean behind the ears compared to folks in the W admin. Rove is up today.
I don’t know the difference between a town hall and a town hall meeting.
One is a building and the other a meeting in a building.
Democracy Now is on Link TV which is carried on Direct TV (channel 375)It may also be on Dish TV.
Oh, I think I see what you mean. It’s a meeting.
Your pal Noam Chomsky is making a shitty attempt at revising history.
Nixon was a bigot who despised blacks and Jews. Insinuating that he was responsible for “getting out of viet name” is an absolute insult. Negotiations were underway prior to the ‘68 election for a peace settlement. Kissinger, working for the Nixon team, sabotaged that effort. Nixon dragged the war out for another four years so he could use it as an election issue in ‘72. The war ended, not because of Nixon, but because Congress stopped authorizing funds for it.
Native Americans thought very highly of Nixon. It was during his administration that they were finally able to speak their own language and openly follow their own culture.
Please spare us. Have you forgetten that he responded to negative publicity with orders for the B-52s to increase bombing in Cambodia, Laos, and North and South Vietnam?
Give us a break.
whatchoo mean “thought”?
If that is true, it is because Nixon was so preoccupied with executing his election shenanigans that the policy officials in that are were able to implement benefits to the Native Americans without Nixon’s knowing about it.
You are right they still think so.
nobody, especially myself is saying nixon was a liberal, I am saying that if he wanted to run today on his record yesterday he would have to run as a demcra, the republican party would have nothing to do with him
thanks!
jeremy scahill report just starting now. says there will be an article posted at the nation later today.
The government is quite adept at killing. I don’t understand why they need the psychos from Blackwater. Follow the money.
Nixon was a piker compared to the ones we’ve had since; and yeah, he wouldn’t embrace Friedman “economics”, so….. I betcha yer right and the real powers had him booted. I have thought many times ( here lately) that Nixon was too much a patriot for them to stand. Strange, I really disliked the guy at the time. And here we thought WE had brought down a president with our activism!
Ah! The grandiosity of youth!
Matt Taibbi in Rolling Stone
There’s your Negroponte “Black Ops” right there…or part of ‘em.
The same killers keep showing up…:::::sigh:::::
Funny coincidence I noticed: Negroponte’s brother has “XO” and Negroponte has his “Xe.” I still wonder about Butto’s assassination and the whereabouts of Negroponte…
kj
I’ve always wondered why she stood up…I have a pretty good scenario….
Its not the efficacy of the report – its having a private army that has the right to assasinate and murder (and one knows they would be doing this with limited intelligence and likely settling scores as they are played by “informants”).
Not to mention the money, and oh yeh, the money.
Blackwater takes $20K/year soldiers and turns them into $150K/Year pirate/assassins.
These guys also work back here at home, wonder what they’re up to?
Did I mention the money?
But…but…but…
That’s the beauty of the free market! What’s WRONG with you commie socialists? Don’t you GET IT?
Where’s Frank Church when you really need him?
