yeah, but I believe he sees it. Even if Rahm runs a girdle-tight ship, you know Jarrett can see him whenever she wants. I’m sure he is now calling her in and she’s talking freely. I think she is one of the most fascinating figures in this administration as one-half of the sounding board for Obama. The other is her close friend-the first lady.

And Rahm won’t have much lobbying cred if he’s fired before he’s been on the job for less than a year. Obama can play some of those angles too, and he’s a quick study. That may be the most sobering thing, as well.

You’re scaring ME with the Cheney/Addington comparison.

Point taken.
If it’s just Rahm that is ruining him, that’s an awful lot of sway for only one policy adviser. It presupposes that Rahm has angry, threatening power over every other adviser Obama has. This scenario reminds me of Cheney/Addington.

And while I think Obama is a little over his head when it comes to getting and taking advise, he is certainly less manageable than W. His campaign tells me that he knows how to lead, who to listen to and when not to, and that he is, after all is parsed in the policy shop, solely responsible for outcomes.

If he cannot see what is happening to him and his path right now, he is no less bubbled than W was. And that scares the living shit out of me.

Sounds like a Toby Ziegler talking Bartlett into bold action. But can’t place it-who is it?

Absolutely. I think Obama liked unleashing his dog on DC as much for a show of strength as anything. Also, to keep himself a bit above the fray. I don’t think its all that uncommon in the WH for Presidents to tire of advisors or have their trust in said advisors dissipate. I find it hard to believe that someone like Axelrod agrees with Rahm on much, for example. And Ms. Jarrett had to return from Pittsburgh with some interesting tales to tell. They are his confidants, not Rahm.
