We had a party last night. A friend won a catered meal at home for ten, at a fundraiser for a kid we know that was severely injured in a car crash. The best ravioli I’ve ever had in my life. Made right in our kitchen by Chef Jeff.

Here’s a funny Ruth Buzzy story: she was on some roast, or something, years after the LaughIn was over, and she said the only thing she ever got out of that show was that she always has to clean up in airplane bathrooms, because whenever she comes out of the loo on a plane, people always say, “Oh my god, aren’t you Ruth Buzzy?” She says she knows if she leaves a mess, even the mess of the person before her, the following person who recognized her will go back to their seatmate and say, “Oh my, remember that Ruth Buzzy from LaughIn? She’s a real pig in airliner bathrooms! What a mess she left!”

So she’s always cleaning up after other people in airplane bathrooms, she says.

If this rain keeps up, I’m hoping the King Boletus mushrooms will bloom in quantity this year. I’d like to try ravioli with boletus-Hubmoldt Fog chevre filling and rosemary-spinach-basil pasta shrouding.

Checking in at the Lake after a long time on the road. I’ve arrived in New Zealand where I expect to be for at least five years.

We’ve got strong southerly winds, making for waves on Lake Taupo. But the sun is out after a dreary week of rain. Most lovely. Some of the spring flowers are starting to show, particularly on the fruit trees.

Guess I’m going back on the expat shift…it is about 5:45 pm on Monday, Aug 17. Glad to see some of you up and about.

On a grand piano, gravity plays a big part. The hammers and dampers act differently on an “up and down” basis, versus a “side to side” basis on console or studio piano. So you can get that quick, soft and “naughty” sotto voce on a grand that you can’t get on a console/studio.

Two more things – Gregory could have been (and has been) a whole lot worse. My worry is that he would just kind of marshal her out of the way, but he either couldn’t or didn’t.
And Charlie Rangle had perhaps the worse appearance possible. He added nothing and made himself look like a complete ass.

And Daschle has looked like a man on death row ever since the thugs targeted and removed him from the senate- and for a prick like Thane too. Well, he felt the jolt too and went afterCoburn with vigor in the beginning.

It was beautiful.

Rangle’s earplug really messed him up and he never recovered. I did like that he was putting down the Senate, which is a bad joke.

Apple’s video editing suite is called Final Cut.

When I was in teevee, I could edit videotape. But, generally my mind doesn’t process well in technical areas. Always amazed how others can. If someone shows me how to do something and then has me physically do it, it sometimes sticks.

I learned a little (a very little) non-linear (purely digital) video editing from some experts. I don’t know the first thing about editing tape.
