Outside Getting In: Tying the Progressive Movement to Congress for Policymaking
While the Netroots has gotten better at helping elect good candidates to office, there’s still a lot of uncharted territory in making policy happen once the people we elect get there. This panel will discuss how the Netroots and progressive movement can have a greater impact on Congress. We’ll also discuss current Congressional processes and some of the innovations being pursued by the Progressive Caucus.
PANELISTS: Joan McCarter, Darcy Burner, David Waldman, Jane Hamsher, Shaunna Thomas

Go Jane!
What? She didn’t lead off with a denunciation? / snark
David Waldham just said:

You bet your life it is.

OK?

I agree with David(?) that getting to Congress early is how to make a difference.
Can’t help but notice that this panel has more than 1000 more viewers than were present during the Big (kinda/sorta Blue) Dog’s speech on Thursday night.

Wow, Darcy’s conclusion was discouraging, that the progressive members of Congress don’t see us on their side, don’t see themselves praised on our or local websites, don’t see us at their townhall meetings.
But she’s still encouraged by the great steps progressive members of Congress have made! Considering that only 15 of them have taken the progressive public plan pledge, I’m not sure what she’s so excited about.
Darcy gives the closing speech, I think at 5:15.
Definitely something is missing because the other side has certainly used the media, tweeter, facebook, and e-mail to vile effect. Our side seems to have not anticipated the all out blitz, throw the kitchen sink at ‘em, fight to the last one standing thing that the wingnuts are doing right now.
Tactically I think that witnessing their lies and crimes will eventually win out, however, the premise that something in blogging is missing still stands.
And, who would want to go to a town hall meeting given the drama that the wingnuts are showing. I don’t want to be any where near gun totting nuts, or poor folks suffering from Faux news and demensia.
I’m on my way to a party we are co-hosting with local Rotarians. My plan is to listen to the rightwingers and stand up to them when they finally think they have won the crowd. I’ll see how many are ashamed of what’s happening in town hall meetings and how Conressional people are actually lying to their constituents.
We’ll see how it goes. Since I’m cooking, the loud mouths will get some charcoal instead of beef-ka-bobs.
Gotta go.
