Wow, a post on rightwing political discourse! Suze!
Suz! You’re early! how goes?
Me? I’m an old Alka-Seltzer man, myself.
hey dr dick
hey newton
thers will be back from camping for his usual slots next week.
Well, I see you have it well covered in the mean time.
Circulated in faculty and grad student mailboxes a number of years ago:
Russ is going to Myanmar
To study bones from lands afar
But we may have to post his bail
So he doesn’t rot in a Burmese jail
BURMA SHAVE
thanks dr dick
hey edp – i love those old burma shave sayings – remember seeing them as a kid when we were on car trips and always looked forward to the punchline
God, that brings back memories of driving to see my grandparents in Missouri as a kid. Burma Shave signs all along the way.
OK OK whatsup with this early bird stuff??
that frito bandito jingle is an ear worm
They all were, which is why I refuse to play the vid.
I have a vague recollection of ordering some Frito Bandito promotional merchandise when I was a kid. It was a great way to keep a child preoccupied for 4-6 weeks. Can’t remember what it was, though.
hey ratfood
Damn my video won’t play WiFi messing up tonight!
Thanks Suzanne ,I’ve been trying to find a version of the Doris Day Chevy ad for a long time , never thought to try U Tube!
Ai yi yi yi!
hey bbugs – it’s amazing what’s on these here internets :)
It is almost scary sometimes.
I think it was probably this. ‘68 time frame sounds about right.
dammit… i had finally gotten rid of it by singing sugar sugar (lmao)
Looks familiar ,I think I ate mine ( school was boring back then)
Could be worse, I’d love to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmon-eee!
My shift ended 2 mins ago !
Where’s my replacement ,I wanna go home !
Never mind ,better late than never !
Later Folks !
Seems like the eraser was probably something that came in the bag, though. I’m pretty certain what I got came in the mail.
I would love to throttle the person who came up with that one.
*plugging fingers and ears and humming*
oh no not that ratfood – anything but that
Now now, no violence…
later bbugs
There is a Billy Joel song whose name I dare not mention lest it burrow into my brain and stay there for the next three days. Since I am no longer a captive audience to coworkers’ music choices that sort of thing rarely happens.
One does occasionally wonder about the sanity of our coworkers based on their musical tastes.
Wasn’t that coke?
ooops. that was for ratfood at number 20.
Coke or Pepsi one. I really don’t remember (or want to).
hey mary mcc
Coke. Here ya go!
Noooooooo!!!!!!
I can sing the Oscar Mayer bologna song… How’s that?
Hey Suz and everyone else. How doing?
These are great, Suzanne, they bring back megatons of nostalgia, especially in black & white. We had a black & white teevee for the longest time; I’m sure we were the last to get a color set on our street.
you are evil :) no wonder we get along
Maybe even worse. That damned thing can get stuck in your head for weeks if you are not careful.
Everyone wants a slinky — you ought to get a slinky!
hey teddy – we got a color tv in 65 – before all the stations switched over to technicolor. it was a magnavox console with am/fm stereo and a record player.
I remember the days when we had interactive teevee. You had to get up to change the channel. All three of them until public tv came along and made things all arty.
and adjust the antenna depending on which station you were trying to get
my dad had a 60’s remote control – us kids
I just go with the flow… My bologna has a first name, it’s O-S-C-A-R…
Tomorrow we go to Sonoma State to pin Sara in a ceremony for getting her masters in nursing. Big Day!!! Hurray. Now all she has to do is find a job.
I do not think my parents ever bought a color TV until after I was in college.
I think we got our first color set when my sister had to spend six months in a body cast. My parents put it (and a window air-conditioner) in her room, which was a pretty clever way to get her siblings to spend lots of time with her.
That should not be too bad. Last I heard there was still a huge demand for qualified nurses. I know we have a bit of a shortage here.
since almost everyone else went to netroot nations and i stayed home – i’m making an executive decision to have our own party tonight.
all the snack pantries and liquid refreshments are on the house tonight pups. just remember to clean up the joint before they get back from netroots.
woohoo!!! how wonderful – fingers and toes crossed she is employed soon
Wow, congrats to her. Lotsa need for nurses nowadays. Will she stay in California?
sneaky parents – ac and color tv – she was the most popular person in the neighborhood.
We loved the Oscar Mayer Wiener truck! It was often seen in the Philly area!
oh, yay!
‘ere, this is for mary:
Congrats to Sara. As DrDick mentioned, employment prospects should be good.
Nope. In the last six months things have shifted a lot. Many older nurses are coming back to work because they have lost other jobs or their partners are out of work. Also, hospitals are starting to close because so many have no insurance. The last class that graduated everyone had a job. No one has a job in Sara’s. She is going to try Albuquerque.
She is very charismatic and smart. She always is successful in her work so eventually she will get what she wants.
Shit. That sucks. I had not heard about that.
holy moly mary i didn’t know that
Time for me to toddle off. Take care all.
That’s what I keep hearing–that there are shortages all over, and that if you have to be looking for a job right now, pray it’s in nursing. Still, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for her.
Now that I think about it, it was mostly just me. My oldest sister was married and living far away and my brother was a teenager off doing his own thing. We watched Dark Shadows every day. It frightened her half to death, whenever something scary happened she’d jump, which is hard to do flat on your back and completely immobilized. She never missed an episode.
Damn. Definitely keeping my fingers crossed, then.
i used to race home from school to watch dark shadows. whoa – trip down memory lane for sure…
Good night. Sleep well.
g’nite dr dick
A friend of mine was a nurse here for 25 years. Kept going back to school and upping her certification on the company dime. Now she has a cushy executive position in Houston, which I gather is still a good place to find work. Too damn hot for me, though.
The worse part of the whole nursing thing is that some people are dying and other people want to take care of them. And the wingnuts talk about death panels.
G’nite.
We already have death panels. They’re called insurance companies.
There are a ton of jobs in New Orleans where our family lives but Sara is not interested in the deep south. A tatooed girl from the Bay Area with a very progressive bent would have a hard time in N.O. Plus it is insanely hot.
The Dark Side of the Force.
Oh yes, me too!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvO1b3f4DGs
yeap – how many will die before whatever the reform is gonna be is resolved and law – and how many are gonna die waiting before it is available them due to built in delays – starting 2013 is not gonna help anyone out who needs help now.
hey ce – oooh thanks
OMFG! I suddenly feel 15.
I spent a week in N.O. in August 1985. When I got back to Illinois I stepped off the train around 9 a.m., it was already near 90 degrees and it felt chilly.
i got all goosepimply when i heard the music…
If you have twitter send this to Rachel Maddow now so she will get many of these before she appears on Meet The Press later this morning.
@maddow Tell Dick Armey that RW killers Terry Nichols & killer of Tiller get free singlepayer healthcare, so why not law abiding citizens?
Thanks, that was very cool.
Am I nuts, or were commercials more entertaining back then?
I love Rachel but in the presence of an intellectual black hole like David Gregory can any sentient being be heard?
both. :)
i think they were pj – and they were longer too.
At least they weren’t all Big Pharma. I’d rather see ads for toothpaste and Chef Boyardee!
I read it as “intellectual black head”. Yucky and appropriate.
There were lots of bad ones then too, now forgotten.
Oy, I hope he doesn’t feel squeezed.
Heading out. Wishing a magnificent evening to all.
sometimes they were so bad they were good
g’nite ratfood
This made me feel really good just now.
