Spent way to much time reading a long article and then writing a short diary about it.

This guy David Goldhill lost his father to a hospital screwup and has spent the last two years trying to figure out what is wrong with American healthcare and why, and what can/should be done about it. He got the what part exactly right. But with the why (too much government intervention and not enough competition), he degenerated into AEI neoliberalism in spite of the fact that he’s a serious contributor to Democratic causes. My diary focuses on what he thinks should be done and I’m pretty negative about his suggestions.

I’ve relocated from western MA to south coastal NC. Loving the temps! Hated even moderate New England winters as I hit 50plus.

I try to visualize where I want the story to go. Sometimes I skip the part I’m stuck on and try to plot out a different part of the tale.

Other times, I spitball ideas off people who’ve read what I’ve got on paper to get a sense of whether I’m on the right track.

The flowers on the hillside are right out of Fractured Fairy Tales. The Added secretaries the higher you get in the company is outstanding, but the three-part welcome is genius. The moving red carpet incorporates (get it?) not onlyprestige but a magic carpet ride. It also would have made Chuck billions on the whole idea of a moving walkway/escalator, which had not been invented yet, IIRC.

It’s Clint as a crime-fightin reporter for the Oakland Tribune. (which I was for a very short time, as well). It’s from 1999and so far, I really like it. I used to ONLY drink Tangueray on the rocks with a twist. I mean for years. Stay away from the exotic variations though, they smell and taste like perfume. I still drink it sometimes. You would like it.

I FONDLY recall many a time as we rolled into Hamburger Mary’s on our urban cycles (crotch rockets, NO Harley’s we), in our best riding leathers and long boots, and had burgers and beers chasing women, gay or straight. We got some of it wrong, some of it right. They were ALWAYS nice enuff to tell us up front, usually.

But not always! We got schooled, yea we did, at times. And then, more burgers and beers! lol

But damn, it was ALWAYS fun talking shit all night about the politics of the day with everyone.

Your vids and music make me homesick for The City. And all it’s glory, and all its seedy and ugly side, too.

For three decades and more in the 60’s and 70’s and into the 80’s, my pops worked near 3rd And Townsend. I worked near there and took the Peninsula Train to 3rd Street, in the 70’s, for a short while.

But I roamed the Bay Area wide and deep from ‘68 thru ‘84 for one reason or another. SF, Berkeley, Palo Alto, and more, all of it.
