ZEDDER!! Gotta make sure neuro doesn’t mess the ZED up!
Hows the wing ES?
Damn you nahant! LOL!
Howdy boyz!
Hey Eureka!
High five Kelly?
Evening, ES and all
Antoine and Tommy are amazing. Wow.
Very ‘Russian’ violin.
Hi you zedders, hey ES!
5-ers baby! [clap]
You got it Kelly!!
Hi everyone….. nothing like blood cocktail to make a body fell good…..
um…
Cheers?
How are you this evening katy?
There’s an amazing mix, which sorta works out to sound Russian.
It’s actually a combo, to my ear anyway of two things; the Celtic knot behind Tommy G. is a big giveaway; lots of southern/country/american inspired violin is indeed celtic. All those portamentos are very Southern.
Then there is this funky hispano vibe, which is not actually a tango; it’s a half speed tattoo, which would still be native to the american south, and the stuff of musical gumbo.
And at the end of it, it’s nothing you can fit into any label. Just talent!
New Orleans much Kelly?
And hello everybody!
I think I know why the Russian for me.
I love this little now-defunct band called Bering Strait – Classically-trained Russian kids who started an amazing Country band and stormed the US a few years back.
But alas, all gone now, and very little useful material in youtube.
Not enough Mary! Love that place…
Yea. me, too. I miss it constantly. I have lately been hankering to go back. The economy is better in Louisiana than in California. I never thought I would be saying that!
Violin is sneaky, seductive, and transnational. Wish I could play the damn thing.
Have you ever seen a film called “The Red Violin” ?
Here’s a clip, and I highly recommend seeing the movie, and the dang red violin move though time from the 16th century to the present.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VshLGLVDPq4
No, haven’t seen it. And thank you.
that is a great clip.
ES, if yer still up and awake from the festin (GAWD WHAT A LINEUP!), is Tommy kin to Mary G?
That’s some serious catch of Tommy and Antoine . . . I’m pretty sure I’ve not seen either out here at fests I get to.
Love that sound . . . . Celtic, Cajun, Cape Breton, all caught up in more. Sweet, hoss . . .
I still have only been to Ruston LA. zzz. Have a friend near NO who I’d love to visit…someday!
Yeah, lots. And Cape Breton, too. On the violin. And in the arrangement.
I don’t get the southwest thing much . . . ;-)
How ya doin MaryMac?!?!?!?!? *waves*
We should have a fdl meetup during mardi gras or the jazz festival or just any ole time.
I told some friends that I had never been to NO, and they laughed, thought I was kidding.
When I told them it was true, they seemed shocked, and razzed me endlessly about it. Finally I proclaimed that I had also not seen Gone With The Wind, and that I was not suffering from either. They looked at me like I was carrying a load in my pants.
Hi Margot!
Like the Accordion Crimes of the violin world?
Speaking of meetups…
Last week when the word went out to muster forces so the TeaPartiers wouldn’t dominate, the instructions in the email I got from ActionFiredoglake were accurate; but the thing was you couldn’t tell WHO to meet up WITH!
The instructions were to meet at a Starbucks, which I found easily. The people? Not so much!
So Jane should have a store; badge, baseball cap, t-shirt so we could easily identify! I’d buy, wouldn’t you?
Yes, Ms. Lady of Spain. :)
don’t forget the 10-10 the BBQ meetup!!
Spain, My Fav
*G*
Sorry, bad link, and I can not repair it.
Actually, that violin thingie, at least the first bit, reminds me a lot of traditional French Canadian fiddling, together with something else I can’t place.
“The FDL Firepups were easily identifiable by their FDL thongs…” :=>
Ha! I was right – they’re Quebecers.
This, Was Ground Breaking.
As Was This
My MOST Influential Jazz, Ever

Cape Breton. And Looseanna . . . *G*
Quebecois! Ers, that is . . lol
Shoulda known them by the Poutine stains on the ties! lol
I hear the Russian influence…some gypsy influence. I love it. Gypsy and some flamenco.
Gypsy would be Django based . . . check out their myspace pages . . . *G*
And Teh Djhango Hit Cape Breton, hard . . . . as did Stephane.
They hit Looseanna, too. *G*
Cape Breton, Celtic, Cajun.
Antoine is all over it.
I still wanna know if anyone knows if he’s Mary Gauthier’s kin? Any pups know?
And did any of yas check out where ES is at?
Cuz the lineup is saint like, grass, old and new, to americana . . .
I’m too lazy to go back and find the fest clip and lineup, but I’m FORKIN jealous, as Suz would say. *GRINS*
Capo and a bandana…No overtones there, no sir.
;>)
Grapelli! I knew they reminded me of someone.
Que? Po? What bandana? We got no bananas.
We don need no bananas . . . ok that’s as old as the mescaline of the 60’s . . .
But you MADE me do it. I blame the Poutine!!!! *G*
Yep. *G*
Us old farts . . . well . . . . ;-)
“Trust me” . . . . ROTFLMAO!!! ;-)

Shucks, just fiddling about.
;>)
Dang that’s FINE!!!
I actually saw, and now have the FM recording, of Grisman Quintet with Grapelli, at Great American Music Hall.
‘76 I think it is?
I was there. I saw Stephane Grapellie! One night.
Incredible.
Here’s the only Youtube I could find fast, with Grisman doin Minor Swing, one of my FAV of all time.
Damn, Grisman, Tony Rice, Todd Phillips, Daryl Anger and Bill Amanateek were the originals I think? I don’t hear the original Quintet here . . . but it’s good! *G*
I concede.
Yer eclectic.
*G*
I”ve always said that about cha . . . LOL
I used your Star Wars image of the Crazy Woman yesterday at my place. She’s an endless source of inspiration, eh?
Was she for truck balls before she was against them?
Why, that’s the kindest thing I’ve heard all day, Larue…Thank ye.
…
You got yourself a weapons-grade wacko in the house, ET…Just when I get ready to delete her from the hard drive of my heart, she does another frenzied fan dance.
;>)
Damn but I’m dreamin of my comin time at this place.
http://www.strawberrymusic.com
Labor Day Fest.
Great lineup, as always, and the jams at night and all day.
You’ll HEAR Minor Swing, and Blue Moon Of Kentucky, and in some camps, extended play of Caravan, along with old Stones, folk, rock, country, new/blue/jam grass, and more.
And yer fingers hurt in the morning. *G*
Thanks mods for keepin me afloat tonite, I gotta crash . . .
Dreamin of festin, pickin, sippin and suppin . . .
Aside from that, may progs endure . . . bless all y’all . . . *waves*
Do do do, do do do, do do,
Do do do, do do do, do do,
Do do do, do do do, do do.
Da dum.
*G*
Warning: If Sarah Palin is against your truck’s balls, run like Hell!
Outstanding find, Larue. I also saw them at GAMH sometime in the 80’s. Saw Grapelli in NYC a couple times in the 70’s. He played back east a lot.
Ouch!
I know.
Some days my inner-8-year-old springs to life and shouts.
nite larue
i’m out too pups
What is a truck ball?
Oh no! I won’t let it happen again. Are you OK?
Here, if you dare….
:) I’m fine now! And somehow, extra rude.
Sorry; Edward Teller, that #63 is for you…
“delete her from the hard drive of my heart”
What a great title for a song.
OK
I still didn’t get the truck ball thing. In Alaska, people are more likely to put a Confederate flag icon over their missing trailer ball than a scrotum.
And after I thought her under my dark spell, too.
;>)
Must be a Rocky Mountain thing ET. I see ‘em fairly frequently here in Denver.
Speaking of which, Pink Floyd Blogging: Have you guys seen my short version of “Us and Them” ?
I have new software I’m playing with. Lemme know what you think.
How about boycotting GOP contributor Rite Aid Pharmacies so seniors and disabled people can get a real prescription drug benefit without a donut hole or extra premiums and deductibles? Send them this letter. http://BIT.LY/drug_benefit
Thank you.
Whoo hoo!
By the end, O’Donnell accused Culberson of hypocrisy and more:
“You lie to America about the evils of government-run health care because you people, not one of you liars about government health care is willing to repeal Medicare, to stand up and be consistent… ‘I hate government health care so I want to repeal Medicare’… That is a lie that you perpetrate every day.”
I saw that. Lawrence was like a pit bull with a bag full of bacon rind.
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins, Blow and Herbert today. In “To Be Old and in Woodstock” Ms. Collins says a takeaway lesson from attending Woodstock is that when someone asks you to do something off the wall, you should really try to do it. Mr. Blow, in “Getting Smart on Crime,” says policy makers are beginning to recognize that draconian mandatory sentencing laws are illogical — sociologically and economically. Mr. Herbert, in “Hard to Believe!”, says with a focus on primary care and preventive services, nonprofit federally financed health centers are succeeding in Vermont and around the country.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got French toast with a hint of orange zest. The volunteer miniature sunflower that showed up in the coleus bed has dried out and has produced enough seeds that I’m seriously considering planting some on purpose next year. The birds are eating us out of house and home! Have a great day.
Good morning.
I made some zucchini bread with sunflower seeds.
