oops, sorry…that was last night…
Jimi!
hey pups – how ya doing tonight neuro?
doing all right, Suzanne…and you?
Suz!
am fair to middlin neuro – thank you for asking :) wanna let the pups downstairs know?
OK
hey newton – hows the bay area tonight. sure glad i moved from bc – santa cruz mts on fire (shrudder)
warm
likin the jimi
Oh nice treat indeed, cranking this right up!
Thank – you – Suz.
santa cruz paper’s most recent update on the fire
this is a lot closer to boulder creek than the last one
Isn’t that near punaise?
my pleasure ellie – thought you would like it
isn’t the woodstock anniversary this weekend? i had already featured jimi at woodstock (doing redhouse) so i went with jimi at atlanta.
been doing the guitar greats lately
pun’s in the east bay – berkeley iirc – near oakland and across from sf
Les Paul died this morning. There’s a helluva a jam session tonight. Requiescat in pacem, Les.
Here’s The World is Waiting for the Sunrise, one of his hits with Mary Ford.
oh right, mini-puniase goes to Santa Cruz, iirc
omg…. just got home from the Mayo about 15 minutes ago…… consults, radiation therapy, chemo and then topping off the night with 2 units blood….
i heard on the radio that he was still playing weekly. what was he 94 or 96?
rock and roll would not be what it is without mr paul’s creation. hell, r/r as we know it would not exist.
there was a nice retrospective the other night on one of our PBS stations.
Hi katymine, nothing like a whole blood chaser.
(((katy)))
uc santa cruz is at the far north end of santa cruz. the fire could, depending on wind, end up posing a threat to the uc.
94, he was out gigging earlier this year, I heard. Arthritic hands and all…
Jeebus, girl. You were two pints low?
One of my recurrent dreams is singing with Janis Joplin in heaven. (In heaven, I have a good voice.;)
my, don’t you have sweet dreams :)
hey margot – good to hear no spleen damage
i wanna have margot’s dreams – i’m only in the audience in mine
I just heard the story of Les Paul getting into an accident and shattering his arm. The doctors said he’d never play again so he talked them into fusing his arm so he could play. Never knew that. He fused guitar[ metal to a wood base?] to create the “new” guitar and fused his arm so he could play it.
Thanks Suzanne. As a longtime Hendrix aficionado I’m ecstatic to learn high quality video from the 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival exists. Wish I knew where, I can’t find evidence of a DVD being available.
Jimi had slightly more than two months to live when this was filmed. Is 39 years an excessive mourning period?
Jimi would be appalled that we mourned for more than a day.
“Light up a spleef, learn guitar dear. I’m gonna be just fine.”
Yes ma’am I certainly do. I had another one in childhood about a flying sled. It comes to my window and I get on and fly over the neighborhood.
Hi Suz. Happy Woodstock!

Forever’s not long enough.
Tim Gunn is on Jimmy Fallon — they are pretty funny, esp. with photos of Tim in 1970’s at Versailles.
hey ratfood
hey openhope
hey ce
hey db
hey emerson
Like the “Snowman” (sans sled) by Raymond Briggs? Boy, we love that book/video.
Hey all, I just got back from reading the dkos diary on mrs. abram. wow. then I read about katymine and I just want to yell at this stupid Katy Abram. sheesh! Why doesn’t that woman just shoot her own foot off to run up her deductible faster?
hey dosido
click on his name in the post and check out his site – they have released a lotta stuff in the past couple years
Hey CE no time no see
ratfood, I’m going have to agree with db here
Wow, I wish I had recurring dreams like that. You must have been an exceptional person in another life!!
[ If I believed in that.] Anyway, it’s very cool.
i saw jimi in 69 at oakland. *sigh*
I did those things for twenty years, then arthritis twisted my hands into a shape not conducive to playing guitar. For several years I could hardly bear to listen to guitar music but I finally got over feeling sorry for myself. So it goes.
All of this fight/debate has made me appreciate my $200.00 deductible (cringing about being a complainer…).
Hey ya. Don’t forget to post your best slogans on great Health Care Slogan thread. /blogwh*re
Hey Suzanne – Almost midnight here, so I can’t stay long.
;>)
i’m so sorry to hear that. have you found a way to express yourself musically?
That’s a dedicated musician… I’d heard the story before.
I think one of the reasons that Les kept playing was that he knew the story of Django Reinhardt. Django only had full use of the index and middle finger on his left hand, and partial use of the ring finger. It didn’t stop him from being the best guitarist of his era… and really influential in most guitar genres that followed.
Yep, darkblack is right. Fortunately is possible to miss someone and simultaneously appreciate their contribution.
dood *sigh* he was so good
hey bct – how’s new mexico tonight?
I feel like an idiot because as I wrote earlier on another thread, I got hammered for $600 for vaccinations for my 18 year old. they are highly recommended and the most expensive one is required for college. My other daughter is 16 and her office visit and shots were covered. Fortunately she will be getting her off to college checkup before she turns 18 and it will be covered (or at least part of it). $600!!!
how’s ohio tonight ce?
Hey, Suzanne.
I love your choice of music. It bemuses me….how could she have been a cop in my territory and age group and like the same music I like?
I really like that question. It pleases me. Now that I’m an adult.
Hey! Vacation in Canada without any telecommunications. Yes! Ten days or so. Just sea air, water, hikes, whales, sleep. Divine. Now back at work like a beast.
(((katy)))
Just listening. I still have my guitars. I think someday I’ll get them out and content myself playing slide but it’s still so aggravating to hold one and be confronted by the fact that I can’t form even basic chords.
I am SO envious that you saw Jimi.
Hi, Suz!
Evening, pups!
Looks like everyone’s back tonight. How’s it going?
FunnyWheelieDiva
I have my thinking cap on!
Now that’s my kind of vacay!
It’s the spirit of music made manifest…Like Les Paul (who almost discovered Jimi, years before Chas and Linda Keith).
‘The story of life is hello and goodbye until we meet again’
;>)
I don’t know that book…is it very old? I mean, as old as I am?! Maybe a book prompted that dream.
yay! :]
i was a dirty fucking hippie who started high school in 1968-69 and lived over the hill from berkeley (which i was forbidden to step foot in).
my dad was career navy (retired) and i was brought up on duty to country is part of the price paid for living in america. wasn’t interested in military. law was interesting but didn’t wanna be a lawyer. cop… cop i could do. had already tried the legal secretary route.
hey sunny
hey funny
Always a worry, even now with MsCE at 25…she is on her own now.
*sigh*
I’m glad your survived the torment ;)
rat you will find a way when the time is right for you to do so. being open to it is half the battle.
Les Paul’s contribution cannot be overstated. Try to imagine a world without multi-track recording.
Beautiful weather, sorry ass circumstances. We had 14 layoffs this week. Not me, but others here for short and long tenures. Very sad and upsetting.
baby girl is 20 and living in portland. i know that worry :)
oh crap
jeez. sorry to hear about that.
I’m trying to imagine a world where the average Pop artiste can sing or play a f*cking song all the way through perfectly without mistakes, punch-ins, autotuning or incorrect emotive nuances…But then I return to this world. Cursed, y’see.
;>)
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear it.
Our library is closing for a week to save money.
ah ha! you’re a military brat. my mom’s an army brat. there’s a good book called that: Military Brats. kind of a sociological look at growing up in a military family. life in the fortress type of thing.
Someone had to get into the 21 foot boat and go around the island!
first born navy brat. lotta responsibilities on my wee shoulders.
Ours switch around some hours and staffing too.
We just got a notice from the post office too that the delivery routes and times are changing, too.
Oy! Or should I say ahoy? :P
aye aye
Night Suzanne, there will be news tomorrow about an interim museum director. Check out NYT and I’ll be back tomorrow. Night Pups!
I can dig it!!
I was one of the first female construction workers because I wasn’t cut out for being a secretary.
Also, one of a handful of female bronze pourers back in the day of working in fine arts foundries so I could have access to casting my work.
Macha!!!!1
groovy :) i wasn’t the first – but i know that trailblazing spirit.
lol!
g’nite ce (((ce museum family)))
Thanks, I always loved music. When I was a baby my parents would suspend my Johnny Jump-Up in the doorway and set the Alvin Twist to repeat on the hi-fi. When they returned from their vacation I’d still be bouncing and gurgling.:)
Gotta get back to work, have some freelance to do. Splendid evening to all.
oo, any samples of that work on the web, perchance? my sister dabbled a bit in that — I don’t think she did the actual casting, but had things cast.
Way cool!
g’nite ratfood
haha. that’s quite a cute picture. gnite ratfood.
g’nite ratfood,
I can just see that jump-up now :)
lolz
I’m out too gang.
don’t forgit yer slogans. Don’t know what i’ll do with them, but maybe somebody will pick up on the fact that lengthy paragraphs don’t sink into the easily distracted american brain. Give Axelrod a little marketing boost. Yes we can!
nite.
g’nite dosido
g’nite!
geez did someone break wind? everyone leaving all at once…
I’m still here, but watchin’ my TeeBee mersheen.
FWDiva
No, I had to put that dream aside for another, greater dream. I became a mother against all odds and the “It’s a miracle” cry of the midwives. Twice. With one child I could pursue art, two, not so much.
Art is very self-focused. Children, just the opposite!!!
I hope to live in Portland one day… or Vancouver ;-)
jon stewart shredded glen beck
hey blub – it sure is pretty up here i gotta say
I remember seeing Hendrix, the Allman Bros, Great Speckled Bird, Procal Harum, others there at the Atlanta Festival. It was sooo hot. Kudzu everywhere, if you strayed off too far from the road or trails you would have absolutely no idea where you were stepping (maybe that was a good thing!)Down the hiway that went by the main festival site was bridge over a river–jumping off the bridge was a blast. There was a deputy sheriff there making sure nobody broke their necks–he would only let one person jump at a time and made sure the people down below in the river were out of the way. Naked stoned hippies and a red neck Georgia deputy sheriff laughing it all off. Dem were de days.
Don’t ask for whom the bell tolls – it tolls for me, in a few short hours.
;>)
‘Nite, FDL.
Good night everyone……. had my cup of herbal tea and toast…. have to be at Mayo 10am….. thankfully it is the pelvic radiation which takes about 5 minutes…….
now that my nest (2 also) is empty – i’m gonna start exploring the stuff i wanna do (as soon as i get my smile back)
holy moley – u saw this live. wow
g’nite db
you are doubly, no triply, blessed
g’nite katy sending ya warm healing soothing thoughts
Awesome. Oh, crap. Forgot to DVR it. Have to catch the repeat tomorrow…
Dang newfangled technology…still used to life without it…
FWDiva
Hey, how ya doin’ with that viola?
Don’t need yer smile for that.
FWDiva
Go for Portland.
funny it will air again at 0130 – if you are still up then
ohmystars… i forgot a whole lot more than i thought i had remembered. once i get the teeth budget figured out, i’m gonna start lessons via the local music shop — they have several local viola teachers.
i figured it can’t hurt any worse than the sound of me singing but… it does. my fingering is all off.
Night Katymine. Good luck tomorrow.
FWDiva
and the bowing – i used to pride myself on not going off string while bowing.. now that is all i do. oy.
It’ll come back. I’ll see if I can find my exercise books.
I’m sure your body’s changed since the last time you tried.
FWDiva
Thank you, Suz. You gave me a youth syrup!
(((((katymine))))) and goodnight.
hey loohoo
hey cujo
Suz !
DB, I’d be happy if they could sound the same with any other Microphone than the one custom tuned for him/her.
Great video, Suzanne. I just wish the thing didn’t reset every time I hit ”submit”.
Yeah, I’ve lost my “sparkle”, as the old ladies put it. I fiqure it’s just a phase. A ” This too shall pass.” thing. Maybe we need an adventure? Bungee jumping? A “pool boy”? /s/
Azz-kickin blues!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmEBTUbaWjA
Yeah…That Poptarts have appropriated the term “diva” is galling in the extreme.
FWDiva
hey petro – how’s canada tonight?
You have to hit the read more button so you have the full thread before you hit the youtube arrow.
(reply to darkblack @ 67)
Ah, heck if you want it to sound the same way every time, just buy the recording. (We say similar things about less-than-optimal performances in theatre rather too often.)
or rightclick on the name of the song in the post and open up the utube in a separate tab
as much as i like ec – sweet home belongs to the blues brothers band in their first movie
Thanks, and to LooHoo, too. Eventually, I probably would have figured that out. ;) I’m not used to YouTubes working at all.
Summer finally arrived in Toronto … we’ve been in the 90’s all this week and will continue next week.
I’ve dragged a huge cooler of Brewskys near the Lake for all my friends here, too bad some of them have left already.
cujo – i have a video up at my place i think you will like
Yep, he played the Star Strangled Banner that night (it was the 4th of July)accompanied by an amazing fireworks show. He would track some of his feedback and distortion and such to match what the rockets red glare were doing. Or was it the other way around? woo we.
yeah, but Belushi and Ackroyd got it from Buddy Guy. *g*
That was GREAT, though.
hot dayam
I’ll check it out if Jimi ever finishes playing. Looks like I need to open a new tab. Reloading comments resets the thing, otherwise (although LooHoo’s right that the “Read More” link fixes the problem when submitting comments).
yeah but?
lmao
yeah, they had some of the best of the best in their movie. and brought the blues to folks who had poo-shaw’d the blues as being music of days gone by.
One vote for the pool boy.
Oh, and let me add that if you haven’t checked out this Daily Show youtube, you definitely should. (I linked to it at my blog).
Obama is doing two Townhalls – Montana on Friday & Colorado on Saturday – I really enjoy watching him make fun of the Birthers, Deathers and RushBo’s followers.
Has anyone seen Sen. DeMint since he got spanked on National TeeVee by BO ? What a waste of DNA …
gotta have a pool to have a pool boy
The first time I san the BB on SNL I was shocked at how great the music was. I mean, I’m an Ackroyd freak anyway, but Belushi was dammed athletic!
that was the awesome cujo – saw it on the teevee and at your place :)
doing those backflips…. yeah
*yawn* – drive-by.
Woke up with a song I needed to hear: Bruce – Bobby Jean
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wk-a3pZwrOA
So is Bruce morphing into Robert DeNiro or vice-versa? (not that I care a whole lot – sometimes I just wake up with stuff on my mind – tonight I felt like grabbing this song).
never mind.
If the alternative is bungee jumping, I’ll dig the pool.
LOL … Dood !
Oh,shit! I knew there was a qlitch!!! It all seemed to smooth….
gotta have a pool to have a pool boy
well I don’t know that *that’s* true…. *g*
on edit: *wink, wink, nudge, nudge*…
hey jayt
Awwww…get him to mow the lawn! Cross-training is still cool, right?
FWDiva
without a pool, the neighbors will be gossiping – its the old hide in plain sight rule
You’re right, Suzanne, very cool. It looks like the new instrument package will let them look even farther away.
You’re right. Just ask Karl Rove. I bet he had a pool boy long before he had a pool.
i thought for sure you wudda had it up when i found it. tis way forking kewl eye and brain candy for a sorta space/science geek like me.
actually, I come up with all kinds of stuff at night – used to keep ma pad and pen – now have a digital recorder for all of those drop-dead-brilliant thoughts (heh) that wake me up.
Occasionally, in the mornings, some of those “brilliant” thoughts are pretty fuckin’ funny…..
Oh Lord, we’ve gone from Jimi Hendrix to Gannon/Guckert … love this place ! *g*
I don’t get around to either NASA or astronomy sites as often as I’d like. Too much irritating crap is still happening in DC to stay away from it for long.
*sigh* same here – but the astronomy picture of the day and the earth sciences picture of the day sites are still on my must visit daily list.
and in some weird sorta shorthand that makes no sense
Night all. We’ve got a major function for our community this weekend and crunch time starts tomorrow. I signed up as a slave but I’ve been promoted to main kitchen slave. We have to kick ass to raise the funds to put 70 acres into conservation trust. 2/3’s of the way there.
IthinkwecanIthinkwecanIthinkwecan………
Sweet dreams.
back to bedders for me – hell, it’s almost 3 A.M., and I have people to annoy tomorrow.
one for the road: Stevie Ray Vaughan & Jeff Beck –
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..re=related
night all.
many a nite stevie has lullabyed me… g’nite jayt
Earth sciences pictures here. And yes, they should really be on mine, too…
fork i forked up the link. thakns cujo
OMG. I just watched an NBC news segment on a massive 1 week stadium-sized free clinic serving thousands of uninsured (and insured patients who can’t afford their copays) at the LA Forum. Despite the hundreds of doctors volunteering their services, thousands of people are camping out in multiday lines to get medical care. This country is really truly messed up.
fuckin tribbles made it to earth…
Not really, but you could just call him a cabana boy. People need jobs, man, and you’re being picky about job titles?!
without a pool, the neighbors will be gossiping -
you say that like it’s a bad thing…… *g*
ok – I’m gone.
the state of health care in america today
g’nite for realsies jayt
they should show that footage to every forking r in congress and say are you still opposed to health care reform? show it to the blue dogs and say you want more of this?
We’ve had a commenter in Attaturk’s small hour posts that was waiting in those lines for a tooth extraction.
Heartbreaking. Can’t remember where I just read it, but the group that does these free clinics started out in the Amazon and now work mainly here in the USA.
Oh, wait, that’s over at Balloon Juice.
FWDiva
PS, I’m glad this made the network news.
FWDiva
And back in time.
I’m not sure that’ll be a good idea… the rethugs in congress would probably hail it as a dual triumph for private-sector driven affordable healthcare (see the free quality medicine available to the uninsured! because these doctors get paid well working for insurers they can afford to volunteer their time! trickle down medicine!) and a triumph for faith-based charity in lieu of guvmint handouts! ;-P
hard to ignore when it is los angeles for a week instead of a county fairground in rural west virginia.
Or maybe I was wrong, and they started here as little brown fuzzies…
Harry Mudd, where are you?!?
*banging head on desk*
yeah.. one of the organizers said that there’s no difference in conditions between Los Angeles and Guatemala.
Remote Area Medical
Here’s some Outside Woman Blues
wild women don’t get the blues
Hey, at least that former Insurance Co executive saw it when it was in rural WV. It’s why he quit and is speaking out now.
Wish I could remember his name…Wendell Potter?
FWDiva
In WV the corporate media doesn’t even cover mountaintops exploding a mile in the air.
I’m afraid of what the answer would be. There seem to be an awful lot of folks in this country who think that if you’re not able to insure yourself, you’re just not worthy.
Until, of course, they’re waiting at the Colosseum for their cancer treatment.
Check out this twink I’ve been arguing with. I sometimes think that some people have absolutely no capacity to imagine circumstances different from the ones they’re living in at the moment.
Ok, that’s another spokesperson that needs to be on the TeeBee Mershine!
Paging Dr. Maddow…
FWDiva
yup – i think that is his name
Yes, that’s his name. Kinda ironic, if you remember your Christmas movies.
bought and paid for by the mine owners – the media doesn’t wanna upset their corporate masters
here ya go funnyd
ohmystars.. i knew that name was familiar…
That’s how ya get to the “clean” coal.
Also one of shooter’s alter-egos.
oh don’t tell me that – fuck, i’ll not be able to watch its a wonderful life at christmas without thinking of dick fucking cheney
It’s a Capra film, Suz. You’ll still be loving the real Americans and hating the corporate fascists. *g*
If Capra was around today, he’d be making the exact same movies he made during the last Depression. Love that guy.
I’ll never be able to watch Danny Divito playing The Penguin, either.
Wow, thanks! Great song and I’d never heard of Francine Reed before.
burgess meredith will always be the penquin to me
she tours a lot with lyle lovett and his large band. forking love this song
Thanks. Yeah, that was a good night on Countdown.
Though I take issue with some of Dr Dean’s soft-pedaling on Countdown lately. It’s just time to kick ass and take names but no prisoners on this…
FWDiva
there was something in Natl Geographic a few years ago about mountaintop removal mining. Apparently, corps like the shrub-buds at Massey Coal are able to get court orders to condemn entire villages under eminent domain just to blow them up.
Is he just subbing for KO, or does he have a regular segment?
Yeah, and if that’s not enough, the exploding ash contaminates all of the surrounding streams and clean water sources. If you’re a homeowner in the area, your property is now worthless.
iirc, dr dean hosted 2 nites while ko was on vacation
if it hasn’t been taken out in a mudslide
what they are doing is a fucking crime – and no one gives a damn except the folks who are affected by it – and they are voiceless and powerless.
He was just subbing for KO. He was on a segment tonight as a guest.
FWDiva
He does a good job of presenting the Democrats’ case here. I wish that some of our congresspeople could do this well in town halls, etc.
i’m hoping rachel does well on mtp – that she is able to put some good info out there and smack down some of the bs
If she does, they’ll probably find someone else to sub for Stretch next time. I have absolutely no confidence in the integrity of NBC/MSNBC these days.
Dean should have been named Director of Health and Human Services. I don’t think Rahm thought he could dominate him, so he didn’t get the post.
He might be of more help outside the administration though. I expect we’ll hear a lopt from him over the next few months.
I love the guy. I could see a scenario where he becomes the hero of health care and a presidential front-runner in 2012.
Hey Suz, Rachel said this evening that:
I think she is looking to mix it up. And I would expect TheDickArmey to try and antagonize and marginalize her.
*sigh*
i hope she doesn’t get all full of herself like ko has done. i liked him better before.
she is smart and polite. i hope she is not too polite and learned the pat buchanan lesson. i really want her to shine and trounce the forker.
had a post in the last thread saying that. She has to go for the throat.
That’s where I was hoping he’d end up. Unfortunately, something didn’t sit well with the Obama Admin. It might be as you suggest. My suspicion, based on the choices of Sebelius and Daschle, was that they were more interested in putting an advocate for pharma and the insurance industries in that position than a potential advocate for patients or the uninsured. I think who they chose tells us more about what their motivations were than who they didn’t. And neither candidate was a big advocate for patients or the uninsured.
yikes… almost 1am.. time for me to head off. thanks for making this an enjoyable evening pups.
g’nite all.
Yeah. What you and Suz said.
Guess I haven’t tired of KO yet. Plus the guest hosts over that long vacay got on my nerves (except H Dean).
FWDiva
This is Armey on Joan Walsh. When you get to 2:20, hold on so your head doesn’t fly clean off.
Night Night!
Scritches to the Critters.
FWDiva
Yes, it is 1AM. Looks like it’s time for me to pumpkinize. Goodnight, all.
armey is wasted.
Exactly right, Cujo-g’nite
Attaturk is upstairs!
One-Tin Soldier
Suzanne, I’m deeply disappointed that you couldn’t dredge up even one Les Paul tune to commemorate the day of his passing.
