The Washington Post’s "media critic" Howard Kurtz seems to have forgotten who is allowed to bring Trig into American political discourse. From Monday’s chatz:
Wheaton, Md.: Howard, why is no one calling for Sarah Palin to apologize for her comments on her Facebook page — to paraphrase "Obama’s death panel would decide Trig’s fate." This is about as outrageous as it gets. Is she getting this from Rush or Beck?
When is the press going to jump on this? She needs to take her own advice and "Stop making things up".
Howard Kurtz: Maureen Dowd mentioned it, and it came up on a Sunday show or two. But I guess being an ex-governor means not having to say you’re sorry. And I was surprised she brought Trig into it, given her scolding of the press for its coverage of her family.
Sarah’s first rule of Trig: Don’t talk about Trig, unless you’re me.

I was wondering when the Failin would show back up again. Alaska must feel so ashamed whenever she speaks.
Poor kid.
Right. In oh so many ways. Even without Downs, poor Trig would have to grow up in a completely dysfunctional family.
We need the media to say Sarah its a living will you know in case anything happens to you and you are left brain dead… er more brain dead would you want the doctors to pull the plug?
No wherein the bill does it say hey lets kill babies that have already been born.
%$^& is pimping her kid because Mommy needs attention!
Is the extra chromosone from the male or female parent?
It’s an anomaly (you are asking me to remember stuff I did over 40 years ago in a different field), doesn’t “come from” either parent. Thinks it just happens during gestation. Wiki may explain. Will go look.
well, the Grincher (Rushbo’s rival for de facto Party Chairman) not only failed to demand an apology or retraction from Bible Spice – he actually said he agreed with her. Everyone’s favorite 80s scifi author said that he believes that there probably are death panels buried somewhere in the huge bill.
Here’s part of the explanation and a link to the rest:
The only thing more ghoulish than images of this poor child being propped, is the doings of a mind that would even contemplate such a horror.
They are, in my not-so-humble opinion, sub-human.

There are two types of trisomy-23; one is non-disjunction, which is from the Mom, and translocation, which can be inherited from either. Non-disjunction makes up most; women are born with all the ovum they are going to have, and older eggs are more prone to non-disjunction.
And I really feel sorry for the 3 daughters who are going to have to raise Trig – that little girl in the picture holding him is painful but very sweet.
This is going to turn into one of those “chicken or egg” questions isn’t it?
“Who’s more insane: Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann?”

707!
hehe. I have to admit that most of that is way beyond me ;-P. I think I vaguely remember AP bio in high school, but
only vaguely.
Here’s an interesting map of insured vs. uninsured Americans. Alaska has a lot of insured people. Lot of Medicaid, I guess.

Sarah knows that if for some reason she and Todd were to lose their health insurance that Trig would be uninsurable right?
http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/7074
In a sense the insurance industry already has a Death Panel set up for Trig.
Agreed… and knowing they will read and hear their mean-spirited mothers rambling idiocy. Knowing it’s how one gets ahead in life.
Is that the new miss Rudy Giulianiin the background with the painful smile?
Good Point. Palin, like all teabaggers, never let facts get in the way of a good ol’ fashun turkey chokin’ hoe down.
Damn, you could have just said it’s highly likely its from Crazy Momma.
By the time Piper is old enough to suckle the National Inquirer or the pageant circuit, she will have seen her older sister’s pathetic and catastrophic chance at the brass ring, and dawg-willing some detached perspective on it. There’s nothing to suggest that Sarahcuda will school her to avoid the trappings, and a lot to suggest that she will be affirmatively pushed into it.
Having a child like Trig increases the odds that Sarah’s daughters will have children like Trig. Children like Trig cost insurance companies money who is to say that in the future the For Profit Insurance companies won’t deny Sarah’s daughter’s insurance coverage?
They can’t cover the Mom and not cover the child can they?
Ummmm, have both been seen in the same room at the same time?
I would think from all the horror stories I’ve read that the insurance companies can do whatever they darn well please.
Aardvark at 10 is simpler, except that according to my memory and wiki, it’s chromosome 21 not 23, especially the part about aging eggs, which is why probability goes up as mother ages.
Don’t know why Sarah is so comfortable talking about this. I think most women are less happy making judgemental comments about someone else’s choices. As always, I could be wrong.
I can hardly wait until school starts teachers will ask students to write about healthcare. The students who pull Fox News links for their paper will with our younger more internet savvy teachers get corrected the facts are wrong plus Fox News is not a creditable news source on many issues.
Parents who argue for their kids will run into the wall of the fact are wrong.
True I am not being pessimistic enough, I must work on that!
Just a reminder that insurance is the ultimate moral hazard business. They get the most reward by collecting premiums and paying no claims. So as soon as you file a claim, your “insurance” co. becomes your enemy. They just look for ways of accomplishing that without too much insult to the body politic. Why they’ve dreamed up all sorts of reasons not to pay, like pre-existing conditions. If they could continue to collect premiums, the best outcome for medical insurers would be if all the customers died, because then there would be no medical expenses to pay.
Sarah is not most women. As far as why Sarah is the way she is nobody has a clue.
Heh. Spoiler alert. TDS is calling the town hall disruptions “Healther skelter.” I promise I won’t reveal more, but had to share that.
Now if only we could get the MSM to point that out.
watertiger is upstairs!
Late Night: Kenneth Gladney Stars in “Joe the Dumber”
One of the many ways that the general public is ahead of the media. There are still some “medical insurance” customers who have not yet gotten screwed by them, but that number is dwingling rapidly.
The haiku of Trig
Oh Trig you are small
Used prophylactically
Mommy needs her prop
****
Little baby Trig
No death panels for you,instead
The endless facetime
And here is Dr. Ezekiel Emmanuel’s paper whence was came Michelle Bachman’s weird interpreations and thus Palin’s “death panel” panic tha tsoe one was gonna pull the trigger on Trig.
There wuzza vain mom from Wasilla…
never mind
Teddy,
With All Due Respects, Eugenics American Style is as American as Apple Pie.
It was the Law of the Land and controlled by “Medical Professionals”.
In fact the Nazis modeled their extermination death camps completely on the American Model.

Also see the Nuremberg Trial excuses.
What is really peculiar is that today’s Neo-Nazis are using the same psychological ploys used by their ancestors to distract and obfuscate.
I do not know how to play the violin.
I am sorry, MS Palin.
You keep bringing your kids to these discussions, but you are upset when we throw them back at you.
What part of politics do you not understand?
BTW! Trig will not be euthanised. Contrary to popular beliefs.
Really! When will you tell the truth?
I just pray that tjose with kids that have Down’s Syndrome (Trisomy 2) r MS, or any number of conditions that insurers define as pre-existing, or “choice” issues raise their collective voices against this nonsense. The reality is that Private insurers already have their death panels…that Palin doesn’t face such concerns of having her coverage dropped because she benefits from a strong PUBLIC insurance plan provided by the State of alaska, paid for by the most socialist system in the country.
Kids or adults with Down’s can’t get/ afford Private Insurance, either Health or Life
2007 Congressional Testimony on the Need for SCHIP for Families with Children with Down’s Syndrome
But look at what occurs in that “single payer” social health care state of Britain, where Palin would argue that euthanasia should be occurring.

Oh…and we all know how those Brits euthanized Steven Hawking when he was first showed signs of his illness decades ago.
Some of the biggest promoters of eugenics were the Priva te Life Insurance Companies. Folks like Frederick Hoffman of Metropolitan Life developed actuarial tables showing that Blacks were uninsurable. Such studies were the fundamental means of detecting those who might have “pre-existing” conditions, or even work in occupations or areas that might pose risks…and cut off their coverage.
http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.g…..788″>Frederick Hoffman: Insurance and Eugenics
I tried to repair your link, no luck.
I’m not sure that you can link with the site I gave, but do a se arch for the citation below for a very good article on how insurance exclusion was applied by private insurance companies – eugenics was used to provide a “scientific justification” for what was cold-blooded greed. Not only did the big insurance companies use this erroneous theory to justify the denial of coverage for millions of blacks (or insisted that they pay inflated premiums, even when they were in social classes and conditions in which health issues would be expected to be low, this process was soon to be expanded to other groups and individuals.
The legacy is still with us today.

Sarah Palin tells vile lies. She should never ever be near any place of power again.
Most mothers would show some compassion for her children. Palin uses hers as props, from a pregnant, unwed teenage daughter to a DS child to her little girl who admitted on the news that she was having trouble catching up in school.
She was sitting Gov. in Alaska when 200 + Medicare people died due to neglect. She never ever commented on that. She let her own people in the northern region of Alaska wait 6 weeks before she intervened when they we starving and cold. Bloggers sent food and money to the region before Palin even noticed and brought religious charity to the area, Not the government who is responsible to it’s citizens.
She could care less about her followers, unless it is to get them to donate money to her legal defense fund.
She is a disgusting, vile person.
Howard Kurtz is a Republican operative.
In the sense that the extra chromosome is found in the ovum rather than the sperm, it comes from the mother. But the ovum had problems during meiosis when there was a chromosome nonseparation during cell division. So the mother’s cells are normal, but the egg she produced didn’t do it’s chromosome separation the way it was “designed” to do. (Couldn’t resist that last little snark, sorry.)
