Bob Dylan – My Back Pages, with Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Neil Young, Tom Petty, and Roger McGuinn.
What’s on your mind?
I love this version of My Back Pages. Ironically, Dylan’s vocal is rather dull. The other guys really get into it, though. Harrison’s vocal is really good.
Young’s solo is a highlight. Real tight arrangement, too.
g’evening pups – how’s everyone doing tonight?
tis a drizzly 57 here on the north oregon coast and i’ve had the fire going since this afternoon.
tis a grand one isn’t it
Music and the Maharishi Effect
…Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Neil Young, Tom Petty, and Roger McGuinn.
’nuff said.
great choice, Suz – enjoyed it.
(I never knew the real title to this song)
hey astral – haven’t seen ya in a while
hey jayt – me neither.
evening pups!! How goes it? especially you Suz??
eh – you?
Hey Suzanne and gang.
-G
I’ve spent the better part of the last 7 months getting over the death of my wife. I went to DemocracyFest in Vermont last month and came back ready for a new beginning.
There’s nothing like spending quality time with Deaniacs!
hey gregb – what’s shaking?
Doing
OK but still getting LOST… second season…
Did Jin do you OK?
i remember when she passed (((astral))) glad to hear that you are getting out (and with such quality folks)
jin did good – so far – root canal on the 17th
Best wishes from both of us Suz! Time will make things well…
thanks nahant and julie
Glad to see you out and about.
Suz, just catching Countdown on Tivo and surfing.
-G
I like Eric Clapton almost exclusively when he’s covering someone else’s blues work. E.C. and Robbie Robertson:
Further on up the Road(live) – Eric Clapton
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6IGH53PZ6Y
i like just about everything he has done but my favorites seem to be when he is on the blues side of things.
Dear Astral…I knew your wife was ill but didn’t know she had died. So sad. Glad you’re back. Still serenading the subway dwellers?
(Great video, Suz. What a helping of talent!)
hey loohoo – they sure seemed like they were having a good time up there
Thanks for the video, Suz. Sparkling!
hey emerson – whazzup
Howdy pups!
Heya everyone,
I’m still on the roommate search, but i did meet one. After going around in circles for over an hour to find the place. It’s an old, old house. Minimum 60 years of age. It even had an old icebox from the 50s just outside of the kitchen. They’re looking for a property manager along with people to live in it. I’ll get back to them when i make a decision, but i’m still rather leery about things. It’s too far away for my liking but i love the house itself.
Tomorrow i call back about the one that’s more to my liking. The one a few blocks away from where i lived before, in the artist’s quarter of town. Hopefully i can go see it saturday after work. (and not get completely lost like i had finding the one today)
Suz!
Just downloaded Kelly’s vid from Chicago astroturf scene.
(Took an hour *g* — well worth it)
Wow, you actually download instead of just watching it on the youtubes? That sucker was 185MB!
Thanks. Jackie and I had 26 wonderful years together, and the last kiss was as sweet as the first. I still play in the subway occasionally, but now that I’m no longer a full time caregiver, I’m starting to explore performing in some local pubs in Staten Island and Brooklyn.
That’s kinda weird for me because I’m not used to using microphones. I’ve also started contacting people in the scientific and medical communities regarding my research into the effects of music on the human electromagnetic field, with an eye toward eventually obtaining a grant or two.
hey alias – fingers and toes crossed for ya
hey sunny -it was a great video!
hey kelly – nice linkage by jane dood
Just playin in SF today. Felt like Fall.
Heh, I was pimping your diary ‘fore you even arrived.
sunny you still on dialup?
did here too – drizzly and never hit 60. nice change but we could use more rain. things are still really dry.
Was a highlight of me day, lemme tell you.
I still don’t have all the “ooky” washed off of me yet. [shudders]
And thanks to you for that. Very nice of you.
youtube and dial-up are not a match made in heaven.
Thanks Suz!
I don’t mind being a vagabond, but i’d like to stay somewhere decent at the very least.
i remember those frustrating days. for the first 9 months i was moderating here, i was on dialup. looking back, i don’t know how i did it.
Best luck to you!
a place where one feels safe and secure. not so much to ask for alias.
yep :-( May change soon, hard to say.
Suz, this is great, a balm after a very long day.
Astral, I do believe in the healing power of music. Very very much.
Alias, I’m sending good thoughts your way, kiddo.
tis amazing how much faster youtubes load – that was when i went all utube-y and didn’t hardly come up for air at all. i had a huge list from the late nite threads that i wanted to hear.
hey margot – glad ya liked it
so what’s the latest fuckery pups? i was without cable for most of the afternoon and never really got caught up today.
My Back Pages is one of my most fav songs ever, I knew it from The Byrds and then later on from Dylan.
I play it, and it’s still played, at some camp jams at fests I frequent.
It’s glorious from start to finish, no matter who’s doin it . . .
Astral, I don’t know what I’ll do when I lose mine . . . she don’t know what she’ll do if she loses me first.
The thought of either of us losing the other is only tempered by the loss of our parents and how they dealt with that, then.
My heart out to ya . . . . no matter how we’re prepared for the loss, it’s hella lonely after . . .
Bless ya.
hey larue – thanks for the recommendation of this video larue – tis a winner indeed.
I miss the birthers.
good evening everyone….. great youtube…… quite a lineup over on PBS Great Performances
I demand each and every one of their “long form” birth certificates before I’ll miss them. :)
Hi katymine. How are the bell peppers doing?
Alias, go with your gut on the house.
hey katy
” . . . countless fires and flaming roads, using ideas as my maps . . ” *G*
Hey alias, hoping for the best..
In the late ’50s my mother had pink appliances, tres chic. By the late ’60s, matching pastel appliances were the kiss of death on house sales. Replace one, ya had to replace em all… Stove, wall ovens, refrig and d/w.
In service to the cause, ma’am . . . in service to the cause . . . *bows*
sunny, i am so in lust with the red kitchenaid mixmaster – and i’m not a red kinda gal. am resisting temptation by telling myself that all my pennies have to go to teeth instead of (drooling) that sleek red thing.
Discovering what Music does at the electromagnetic level has made me a better performer. Knowing that I’m affecting people’s electrical currents when I sing is a very empowering feeling.
Performers know instinctively when they are connecting with their audience. To know that there is actually an electrical connection that originates in their hearts is astounding.
Hey Pups, I Got A Must Read Diary Up
And I’m NOT just tootin my horn, this is a must read, I just found it . . . and thought it’s really, really important to read.
I’ve decided it’s NOT a shill piece, and the comments have persuaded me too . . . .
This is incredible inside info, and spells fuckery, pure fuckery.
Go read, and then tell me how I can help counter this evil incarnate cuz FEW of my elected offals, (Di Fi is NOT town halling, neither is Boxer or Matsui) are really showing themselves for any of us . . .
Did I mention I HATE my elected offals? *ptui*
Here’s The Direct Linky To BizWeek Article, It’s HUGE!
astral i’ve always felt that music is as much of us as our dna. there is something very primal and instinctual in our response that comes from deep within.
Ohhhh . . . kitchen aid! Mixer!
Pancake mix, waffle mix!
Cakes!
Mousse’s!
Bread doughs!
Egg whites!
Heavy cream!
Pizza doughs!
Ohhhh yeahhhhh, you should be lustin for this one . . . . color be damned, too . . . *G*
i recommended your diary larue
bread
pies
biscuits
cookies
*sigh*
Just cuz Warren is so smooooth on this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P8iTHpRD8g
There’s something about a kitchen aid. Maybe it’s the power – kinda like a fast car *g*
warren *sigh* he is forking awesome – thanks emerson. i so wanna see him one day.
Bless ya ma’am . . . I edited my #60 . . .
I’m sayin, this is a huge release of an article, by a corporate mag, no less . . .
Here’s The BizWeek Linky, Again
Go to the windows, open them and shout out as loud as ya can . . . “I’m mad as hell . . . “:
Yeah, that big . . . . despite it’s negativity and downside prospectus, I’m thrilled the shit’s being called for what it is. And Business Week? That’s MSM, and we’ve got SHIT from the MSM so far . . .
I’m tellin ya Pups, and I hate to admit it, there’s HOPE?
I think. Maybe. Also . . ;-)
Suz, you asked what’s new?
There’s a new Seminal diary by Sara Robinson called
Fascist America: Are we there yet? to which she answers yes, yes we are. And she spells it out.
Really interesting. It’s something I’ve wondered about for the last several years.
and there are attachments! i’m looking at the juicer and the pasta maker and if i didn’t have an icecream maker already, i would be wanting that attachment too.
Oh, so ya KNOW what to do with one of them thangs, do ya?
Send samples, I’ll grade them for ya . . . the YEAST I can do for a blended pally wally . . ;-)
holy shit. thanks margot
Gebuz, that’s FINE from Greg’s growl to Warren’s slide . . . he’s stolen all Dickie Betts offered him over the years.
I miss Dickie, I miss Dwayne, but Warren is the shitz!!! *G*
and you shall, my dear. It’s in the stars. I’m about due myself!
Shit Margot, that’s all been a reality since Reagan as far as I’m concerned . . .
It’s corporate feudalism we need to fear, not the pols . . .
If others don’t know this, then we need to take this viral . . .
I thought ALL libs/progs knew this stuff . . . .
i used to be quite the cook – back when i had a family that i was cooking for. not so much now that it is just me.
part of my plan (of treating myself better) after getting teeth includes being more creative in my cooking.
She is a wonderful writer, Margot. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, every word rings true.
thanks emerson – tis forking hard work trying to be good to myself and not slide. i could be a hermit so easily.
Miss Suzanne…….. I have had my harvest yellow kitchenaide since early 80’s….. have most of the attachments….. wheat grinder, meat grinder, sausage stuffer and used them a lot on the farm…… It sat in the corner of the counter after moving here for years……. now am using it more and more……. still has a screech at mid speed…..(it says not to lub the motor)
Hey, you already started. You live in a place you love with a loved one, getting some personal things taken care of, getting into your passions, and now having the time to explore.
I’m JEALOUS!
(Slides are for Warren-not for you, Suz.)
i live here solo emerson. jen is about an hour and a half away and stephanie is about 20 beyond her.
although token does qualify as a loved one, and i do have conversations with him more than i should admit to, its not the same as living with someone.
i do enjoy the peace and quiet and the solitude – perhaps too much. i’ve been in oregon a year this month and haven’t really done any exploring or sightseeing.
oh katy – i want one and i know it will be well loved. its just so strange for me to be wanting a kitchen appliance.
when i was a young married of 20, i had a poster up in my living room in fancy smancy lettering were the words fuck housework.
Larue, if this story holds up and goes large, then it could scuttle the current plan (good). But with the level of fascism (here I invoke our dear Norske!) already getting stirred up with such vehemence, I am worried that we will not get a second chance, especially not a single-payer shot (double plus bad).
Fork. (And here I invoke our dear Suzanne.)
hey hmmmm – fork is such a forking useful word :)
Ahoy there m’dear. Long time, hope you’re well. Wotta newsday, eh?
i’m hanging in – gonna be an interesting day tomorrow – i hope the violence doesn’t continue to escalate. friday is, after all, news dump day, bad bank day, and the end of congress. should be one hella dump.
That bizweek article is a great find, but I could read only the first page before I started cursing.
[rant] IMHO, Obama is out of his mind. With respect to both the economy and healthcare, he has kept in charge the same people, structures, organizations who had fucked things up. Unfortunately, he’s not going to be able to nudge us out of these problems. Rather it’ll take real leadership, which he seems unwilling to provide. [/rant]
I had this place of more than an acre, raised milk goats, made cheese (yes did eat young goats like lambs), pigs and rabbits. Had chickens and ducks off and on(hated ducks they are so messy). Big garden…. canned, dried and loved to cook…… but it was hard getting the housework done….. when you are chasing the 4H calf down the 55 mph road.
Raised 3 kids of my own and 6 foster kids….. the most I had at one time was 6 kids…………..
hey wigwam – i like it when you rant … please read and rant more (if your blood pressure doesn’t get too high)
That’s an excellent but chilling article.
Gee, thanks for the reminder. (insert wry smiley here.) yeah, I’m coming to dread Augusts lately. Couple very good Large Orange diaries about the whole emergent fascism thing. Between those, Rachel and Keef, and Sara Robinson’s Seminal, I’m kind of on the edge of my seat here. What the hell is really up out there?
wow. always fantasized about that kind of life but the reality is i am a slug nowadays. back when i was younger and had that kinda energy i shudda gone ahead and done it.
Know what you mean, but I always thought it took a while just to decompress from one chapter of your life before sprinting into another that’s entirely different. You’ll get out there soon and when it feels right. That’s why you’re thinking about it alot, IMO.
Petty was a lucky bastard to get to be next to Neil young and I am a lucky bastard I got to watch this.
Never been a big Dylan fan but Clapton makes me glad I am still alive and so is he.
Nice pick my dear.
yup – is why we gotta stay centered and not let the fuckers push our buttons. i think ko and rachel are doing some great pushback but worry is it too little too late.
of course i’ve never handled surprises well.
busted! babe, how ya doing? how’s the garden? how’s your pa doing?
emerson i’ve got a lot to decompress from – oy. thanks for that – i had not thought of it that way.
Hey Suzanne!
Getting confirmation that the fix has been in for a month or more wrt drug companies, and now learning that, as I suspected, Rahm Emanuel and his Blue Dogs have cut a deal with the insurers … it pisses me off I ever held out hope.
As of now, I firmly agree with the teabaggers: “Just say ‘no’.” I want to see the whole thing shot down, and we start over.
Suzanne can probably provide perspective on this, but IIRC ‘disorderly conduct’ and ‘disturbing the peace’ would seem to apply to these disruptions of otherwise orderly events. Also, hanging a congressman in effigy might be construed as a “terrorist threat.”
I’m just worried they’ve got a huge headstart — running back to the Palin ralies — on winding up the lo-info rural folks, and that tribal rage once sufficiently stoked rends to reach some point of no return. Gots to come out some time. You were a cop, what do you think is likely to happen when when officers are required to subdue large groups of those kind of crazies?
tis a fine line between free speech and disturbing the peace.
but criminal acts need to be arrested and prosecuted.
Pops ain’t moving too fast, Gram has been sick fer a week and the more I talk to her, the more I fear she is going downhill fast.
The garden was out of control two days ago so I told my neighbors to help themselves as I can’t be there right now.
PS. JayT, nice .
Yep….. that is why I’m in suburbia but work hard on making food from various countries….My peppers are little nuggets, it is hard to grow when it is 112 degrees…… they keep blooming and producing fruit, they just don’t mature.
Today was one of my best days in weeks……. the MRI of my left hip showed unstable joint and at risk of fracture but had that IV Zometa Wednesday on chemo day……. probably start radiation to my hip Monday…..
it can get ugly. a lot depends on the responses of those being arrested and those doing the arresting.
is why so many protests make arrangements ahead of time with local police on how to handle arrests etc. in large demonstrations ya know the odds are there is gonna be someone who crosses the line.
I’m confident that, if those people were seen to be on the left, their asses would be haulled out of there instantly and none too gently.
(((busted)))
my granny aint doing so well but she is hanging on. she’s 93 (or is it 94) but she is on that downhill slope.
woohoo for the good day. sux about the hip hon. gonna have to be careful and watch where you are walking.
Hiya Pups! Katy, Suze… everyone else. How’s it going this fine evening?
hey jofish – where ya at this time?
Thanks. Some tough days coming up, I fear. Though maybe HC falling apart would help postpone or soften that. ‘Course then they’d just take credit for derailing it…
(((((Firedogs)))))
Time fer me to fall down, I was busy today.
Y’all be good now.
g’thud busted
Yesterday was Dad’s birthday….. He is 86 years old….. Mom seems to be slipping ….. every time you talk to her, it was “we just got back in the house after the fire” or did you hear we had a house fire?” …….. well what can you say…. she is 87 and will be 88 in October……
I got that feeling too. Homeland Security would insist under Bush.
What sounds more fascist than Homeland Sec.?
In DC tonight… headed to NYC and Virginia tomorrow, then Chicago and SC. Joy Joy!
the r’s really are playing with fire – unfortunately, its real people who are gonna get hurt instead of those stoking said fires.
(((katy)))
Nothing sounds more fascist than Homeland Security.
still employed?
ding ding ding!!!
homeland security (spitting) those fuckers get my blood pressure up as fast as the thought of the boosh administration does.
Yer not alone . . . we’re all at yer door, on a daily basis . .
Maybe more n ya wanted in yer golden years?
*G*
Love ya, heal quick . . . some day me and mine are gonna haunt OR, and yer in our book.
*G*
Still employed, but the noose is tightening… I think I’ll get my “letter” in the next two weeks unless the company comes to its senses.
Hey, it’s late… Chicago. Ear candy, anyone?
Time for me to say “G’nite, everyone.”
Did you ever have dealings with them, Suz? Also, secret Service-do they call the shots over local police departments-like say Obama was visiting Oakland?
I am heading off to read then sleep….. sometimes the sleep comes before any reading…… right now I am just about to finish a John Grisham book called “Playing for Pizza”……also just finished a book “The sharper your knife, the less you cry”…….
It isn’t what you think…… a middle 30 yr old executive was laid off and started to go after her dream…… to go to the le Cordon Bleu cooking school….
g’nite katy
thanks dood
g’nite wigwam
fuck
and its always a good time for ear candy on late late night threads
dealt with feds in the past – retired in 2004 and had no dealing with homeland security.
Yep.
Hmmm . . . . it’s ugly, it’s unpredictable, and it could get messy.
Time will tell, keep yer head down, the foxhoe’s are full and well, we just MIGHT need to go on the assualt, doncha think? *G*
If there’s a town hall meeting near ya, turn out and face them down, the putrid fucks.
I just wish we could face down the corporate feudalist asshats in their suits mano a mano, but them fucks always hide behind the maneuvers of those they wield puppet like.
Still, we should confront the idjits, face to face, and also call out the corporate facists for what they are and what they fund and solicit and pay for and control . . . . .
Yeah, I know, nothing new . . . we just need to get larger and louder. History shows that’s the ONLY thing that ever works . . .
Love Chicago. They were on Conan last week. They had conan’s band come onstage and play with them, which was very cool. Friend of mine is in Conan’s band and idolized their sax man as a kid and there he was playing with him. Loved it.
Yeah, I know . . . I hear ya . . . just gotta hope, and also, FIGHT goddammit . . . fight.
This ain’t gonna be won without our bloods being spilled.
Or our losses of life, one way or another, be it from lack of healthcare or acts in the streets.
Fight or die, and die anyway, cuz that’s how science is . . .
Me, I wanna die old, and with some modicum of pride that I helped make it a better place while I was here.
thank god for small pleasures, eh?
yea-firm – dealt with atf and fbi among others. more so fbi – which was much more ‘user friendly’ when dealing with other agencies by the time i left.
my last couple years were riding a desk on light duty so i wasn’t working any active investigations.
You’re right, Larue. The Dems don’t have the stomach for the fight. If we don’t, we’d better find it quick. In that regard, the thugs overplaying their hand could get people in the streets if there is any direction.
I wanna hear recipes, gal . . . don’t be hidin them domestic talents just cuz yer a rebel . . .*G*
all mine are in the pod. i’ve been procrastinating getting the pod delivered here – cause that would mean i gotta unload it – up the stairs and in through very very narrow doors.
bout time for me to head out pups. thanks for the great discussions tonight.
g’nite all
always wondered about that-I imagined some agencies were effective with others and some would be impossible to work with. That’s gotta be stressful when the usual guidelines change.
You lived large, you helped others, you live large now . . . we love ya . . .
Be well . . . and live large as ya can . . . I delight in your stories of things you’ve learnt and share with us.
Truly delight in it, Katymine . . . bless you and yours.
-Larue
Sweet dreams, Suz. Tomorrow is another day.
Nite Suz.
Not The Original Chicago, But MY Fav CTA Tune
It was a high school weed, wine and nookie song of love.
It was coupled with, as we were, with Greatful Dead’s Lovelight . . .
Sigh, what wanderlusts and wanton lustful beings we once were . . . ;-)
Nite Suze… here’s one more bit of ear candy…and I’m off to bed too. Earth Wind and Fire and Chicago… I love You Tube
EW&F made the disco era bearable… LOL!
Night everyone!
Oh gosh, get some cheap help to finish it off, WE NEED RECIPES!!! ;-)
What a party-wish I was at that one! Nite Jo Fish.
Between lack of healthcare reform and lack of financial reform and lack of JOBS creation, I don’t think it will be long before us long term unemployed and the recent unemployed, and all of us BEING unemployable . . . I don’t think it should be long before there’s a real showing of our ‘discomfort’ and dis EASE made evidence in the streets of our lives . . .
History just PROVES that when the haves and the havenots come head to head, shit happens.
I’m not suggesting anything, I’m just quotin history . . .
Shit’s gonna happen . . . the masses are gettin too screwed, and that’s the failure of the system.
All of the systems in history.
Fail to take care of the masses?
Fail!
Why the 1% who own it all and run the 23% to do their bidding don’t KNOW they are bound to fail is beyond me.
History has proven, they WILL fail . . . .
And with that, I’m outta here cuz Sandman Is Callin . .
Suz, thanks dear, for all . . . . yer a blessing and we all love ya . . . *G* *waves*
My fave, too Larue. But Color My World was the best slow dance, pick-up song. *g*
