It’s not even an Old Testament God. Old Testament God fucks your shit up, but He does it mostly if you cross Him. They believe in a crazy Angry White God, who loves the white peoples and hates the rest of them.

Read “The Family”. It’ll scare the Bejebus out of you. Nutjobs like Gov. Goodhair have already spread like a virus all through our government. Powerhungry elite fundmentalists eschew the social gospel in favor of submission to an old testament God of murder and vengence. In their view, morality is a secular plot for wussies. They believe Jesus was a warrior (and also a free market capitalist). Jesus = love and love = blind obedience to the demands of God as passed through (almost always) men (mostly white) whose characters and behaviors are often deeply flawed, or even criminal in the secular world. “Jesus plus nothing” is their mantra. They work 24-7 for nothing less than an American theocracy. And, with apologies to Leonard Cohen, “first they take America, and then they take the world.”

Urban Texas is trending blue so, hopefully, Goodhair will only get the rural vote. Not that the blue areas will motivated to vote for either, mind you, but maybe Kay will be seen as the “adult”.

Seeing as it’s nothing but emotional distraction to inject religion into politics, it then becomes nothing but emotional reaction (which is emotion itself) to take the bait, and start arguing back, and turn political discourse into an unruly tent show revival, of “us versus them”.

If political hacks want to try and whip up and manipulate their little flock, then let them… and if the people of Texas want to teach their sons and daughters that we are all descendants of some person or animal on Noah’s Ark, and want this taught in their public schools, then what business is it of yours or mine, unless our children also attend Texas public schools, in which case we’d do better to simply tell them different, and teach them also about how injecting religion into politics is just emotional bait etc.

This stuff is just too old and too stupid to matter, and it’s always better to stay focused and undistracted in political discourse.

Being a native-born Texican, I just ask your prayers for me as a progressive in Kansas dealing with the dimwits of Roberts, Brownback, and Tiahrt. Then there is that political wasteland between Kansas and Texas. Maybe Perry ought to rally the troops and invade Oklahoma, then secede, leaving Kansas as a buffer-zone; now there is an idea his advisors might want to consider.

I’m afraid today’s southren Babtists would pee themselves in rage and denial if it were gently explained to them that the original American Baptists back in the 1st thirteen colonies were among the most enthusiastic supporters of separating Church and State.

And of course, their heads just explode when you point out that it’s that separation that is undoubtedly the reason the U.S. has the highest proportion of church/synagogue/mosque/temple-attending citizens in the “free world.”
(Oh, now don’t ask me for the cite. I’m sleepy. But I know it’s true!/s)

“You know, they’re telling us which cars to buy and which lightbulbs to use now. But they ought not be telling us whether we can go to Baptist, Methodist, whichever one,” he said.

OK! Which ones of you was telling him what church he had to go to?! Come on, fess up, cuz you are scaring him and he might pee in his David Vitter Specials.

Who knew? As near as we could tell here in The Land of Enchantment that pile of hair was covering an anencephalic monster.
