One of the president’s commitments is that the reform should be deficit neutral.

The public option(s) will give people more choices than they currently have.

Since over 70% of the public wants the public option in this reform he (Boren) shouldn’t have any trouble with support from his home-state electorate.

Well, live with it. That state voted for McCain — in 100% of its counties. (More than any deep south state, or even Utah). Jesus! Get off your “It’s MY state — right or wrong.”

And don’t forget Mike Synar — of Muskogee (for real — no joke) — he was good, too. But he died many years ago. It’s been a long time, hasn’t it?

I don’t think they even have to endorse candidates by name, they just use the same talking points…..the old ‘family values’ lines that the repugs use in their campaigns. The congregants just have to match up the code words from their church with the code words from the candidates.

I completely agree that their tax exempt status should be revoked, but I’m guessing as long as the dance along the line (or hell, even if they cross it), that won’t happen. Unfortunately.

I’ve always said if I could change one thing in this country (and this state) that would make a huge difference, I would require that from kindergarten thru high school either the students take a critical thinking class each year, or that critical thinking sections be included in each subject taught. The fundies and repugs would fight it…..critical thinking leads to questioning, and they just don’t want that to happen.

I hate illogical thought.

. . . or that will restrict their choice of doctor any more so than the private insurance companies already do. They are concerned that if we continue down the path of the current legislation, we will end-up with single-payer health care and overall quality will suffer.

Jackass. If we had single-payer, you could see any doctor you wanted. There would be real choice because you wouldn’t have to go see a doctor that was accepting your private health insurance. If you’re going to argue against single-payer, at least make an argument that isn’t totally illogical.

“…always pushing the congregations to vote for the repugs…”

I’m in So Cal and this shit happens here, too. My question is this: How do these fundie gangsters get away with pushing political agendas from the pulpit without losing their tax-exempt statuses? IRS needs to step up its enforcement action on this crap. First, strip them of their tax status, next, strip them of their ill-gotten assets and finally, throw their asses in jail.

You don’t wanna get me started on this one…

I’ve lived in Oklahoma all my life and grew up in what is Boren’s district. In the 60’s we had Ed Edmondson in that spot, and later Mike Synar, and both stood up for the little guy. My dad was an ironworker and involved in union leadership and my mom always volunteered at the union hall to try to get democrats elected. Neither of my parents graduated from high school because they had to quit school and work in the fields in the late 20’s and 30’s so their families wouldn’t starve. But they were smart and they were involved citizens and they knew who did and didn’t represent the people.

When I told my kids as teenagers a decade ago (as we sat at the kitchen table talking politics and bemoaning our representatives)that when I grew up it was heavily Democratic…they were shocked. They thought it had always been this way.

If I had to explain why it has all changed, I would suggest two reasons: The decline in union jobs (and manufacturing in general)and thus less political involvement by union members and the increased political involvement of fundie churches, always pushing the congregations to vote for the repugs….even though it is against their best interests.
