Dan Boren of Oklahoma really shows his true colors today.
During the health care reform debate, as Congress works to address our broken health care system, one side has tried to force a 1,000-page bill through Congress while the other side has used rhetoric to cloud the discussion.
Shorter Boren: Slow down, Mr. President! Wonder where he got that?
He continues,
At home, folks tell me that first and foremost that what they want is a plan that will not bankrupt America, or that will restrict their choice of doctor any more so than the private insurance companies already do. They are concerned that if we continue down the path of the current legislation, we will end-up with single-payer health care and overall quality will suffer.
Key points from the RNC memo:
- "Their Washington-centered system will end up costing trillions more, not less, and bankrupting the country."
- "The old, top-down Washington-centered system the Democrats propose will empower Washington to restrict the cures and treatments your doctor can prescribe for you."
- "End of the day, it doesn’t matter who takes your private coverage away, whether it’s your insurance company, the government or your employer: When it’s gone it’s gone. You are going to lose your health coverage, and then you will see a reduction in the quality of your health care."
Remember, this is the same guy who called the stimulus bill un-American.
Let him know you don’t appreciate this.

Zed. Just cuz I could. heh heh
Don’t these people understand we get the RNC talking points before they do?
How do you know “these people” aren’t helping to write the Republican talking points?
How come folks like Kathy Sebelius and Obama handlers find out about teabagger tactics like we do and come up with a plan to deal with it. It’s not like they didn’t know it was August.
The Rethugs are a top down bunch. The worker bees don’t have input, they get to hand out the fliers.
You have to remember that most of Obama’s circle is composed of Clinton DLCers. I would imagine most of them are scared to death of a public option or single payer.
So more evidence that Dems are lame on purpose. They’re not fighting reform, just letting it fail.
Good point. My bad.
Called and told them to stop obstructing reform-asked if that was clear enough.
It’s called Profit Over People. Chomsky even wrote a book with that title.
fyi – this pig has the highest rate of uninsured constituents of any Blew Dog – 25.6%
somehow a message needs to be sent that if these people manage to take down healthcare reform, our next focus will be lobbyist reform – to get the corrupt rot out of WDC.
Wow. We’ve got quite the collection of worthless human beings with these corporate whores. My apologies to real hookers.
Back to the cesspool.
Namaste
actually, per Open Secrets, he’s taken very little of Big Ins/Big Health/Big Pharma cashola – he’s just being a contrarian jackass – surely treatment for Oppositional Defiant Syndrome is covered under his Congr Health Plan

This is the same tactic they used many times during the Prez primaries and General. They are letting them expose who they really are and what their true motive are. PUMAs…Harriet Christian. PaylinPeople…wackjobs. Most of the general public, even the more Repub-leaning ones want no part of this freakshow and start warming up to our viewpoints.
Now the “give ‘em the rope to hang themselves” strategy isn’t a guarantee, so we must stay on the high road and not lose our focus as to why public option and especially single-payer is by far our best reform. We must remain calm and focused on our key points. No distractions and shouting matches.
It is rather interesting that the former governor of Oklahoma, Frank Keating is now a TOP slobbyist for the American Life Insurers.
Now Keating originally considered a run for President, but bowed out and backed McCain.McCain in turn, considered Keating for an appointment,if I’m not mistaken, should McCain have won.
Keating has an intiguing background,to be sure.
One of his positions was with the FBI during the time of the OKC bombings.
But there’s some funny business too, with alleged bribery, during his consecutive terms as Governor.
It has not been mentioned much, but health care reform relating to nursing homes and the $$ reimbursement and allowances for in home care is a BIG issue.
Bain Capital,Mitt Romney’s company, in conjunction with Carlyle, have invested heavily in “rest home facilities”,if my memory serves correctly.
Oklahoma is indifferent to the needs of those who are most in need.
Have you noticed that some of the richest(oil, coal, mining) states treat their citizens the worst?
(I welcome correction if I am in error on this.)
My father died partly due to rationed/denied care and he had good insurance. We already have rationed care and are standing in long lines to see a doctor. For five years I’ve been contacting everyone from the health care industy, my local elected officials, congress, senate, governor’s office. They are good at giving excuses, passing you on to someone else or not replying at all. Where are their voices while the party of no is organizing idiots who are spreading more health care lies out of Hannity’s Amerika ? Governor Kaine is sending letters asking for support for health care reform and is well aware of the harmful ways the health care system operates and endangers southwest Virginia communities. These blue dog dems in Virginia are shameful hypocrites. How many more innocent people will be sickened or die for greed and lies ? America has become a nation of fraudulent crooks. http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62
Dan Boren is the only Democrat elected to national office from the state of Oklahoma, so he has no role models. Hell, he had to have his arm twisted to the breaking point to insure children (SCHIP). He should just flip to rethug and get it over with.
Congresscritters from Oklahoma are not allowed to be sane- regardless of party. It’s a rule

Hey, guys – a bit of good news – getting the story into the msm — on right now, on npr talk of the nation — Gov. Howard Dean, who is telling the truth like nobody else I’ve heard.
Second, the very first call — a Hispanic woman from San Antonio who is paying big bucks for private insurance which won’t cover her care. She said– wait for it: “my insurance company keeps getting in between me and my doctor. The republicans keep saying a public option will put a bureaucrat between me and my doctor – I alread have that.”
She went on to say that she had been hospialized in both Canada and Britain, and each case got great care, and paid nothing.
There’s a former Blue Dog (out of congress) on to take the Repub position, mild version: “we shouldn’t focus on the form [co-op, public] but on the results.”
1,000-page bill? Ha! It would take this illiterate 20 years to read that much. And I know of what I speak — I grew up in Oklahoma. It didn’t surprise me at all that Oklahoma was the only state in the union that had 100% of its counties go for McCain in the last election.
He is the intellectual twin of Inhofe, who reads with his fingers, or the other OK senator, who obviously had a brain 40 years ago, when he got his MD, but hasn’t read a word since.
This is Oklahoma, people — where the wind comes sweeping through their ears.
Sigh. 30 years ago there was one OK rep with a brain – Mike McCurdy. of course, he represented the area that included Norman, where the university is. And it was a long time ago.
More on the NPR program – a caller who attended a congressional town hall last night that was packed with and disrupted by the Rethug/teabagger/antis who were, as the caller said, “not there to listen.”
Just got off the phone with “The Office of The Boren.” The phone handler person told me that I had already called today, that he recognized my voice. That particular observation was, of course, untrue. (I’m pretty sure I would have remembered such an encounter.) Be that as it may, the gist of my comment was that if The Boren and his blue dog cronies were so committed to whoring for the Republican party, then they should just drop the pretense and go over to the dark side.
I’m assuming my comment got sucked right into the black hole, never to be heard from again.
Sign this petition at http://bit.ly/single_payer_ross which will dispatch email to Rep. Mike Ross, Tyson Foods, and Democratic Leaders demanding Ross get the conservative Democrats includes Boren help enact HR 676 into law and until that happens we will boycott his friends at Tyson Foods of Arkansas.
Boren just appears one of the many Conservative Democrats who Mike Ross leads on the health care issue.
Also sign the petition at http://bit.ly/HR676

What petition?
Last I heard, former Guv Frank Keating was heading for Washington with his hand out for bailout money for the insurance industry. He’s a real piece of work. When Mary Fallin, rightard congresscritter for OK 5th (mine) was his Lieutenant Governor, word surfaced she was having an adulterous affair with her bodyguard, an Oklahoma Hiway Patrol officer. Frank had his buddy Bob Ricks, the director of public safety do an exhaustive half-day investigation, which cleared the copper, and in effect, Fallin.
Now, if the name Bob Ricks is familiar, he was the ATF spokesman and chief honcho over the Waco disaster. His goons were housed on the top floor of the Murrah building and presumably the target of McViegh in the OKC bombing. Last I heard Ricks was police chief in Edmond, a bedroom community of OKC and Mary Fallin is running for Governor.
Some of these Blue Dogs appeared here with Howie and a lot of us gave money. Now what do we do?
Don’t mean to imply that Howie knew they were BDs. Just that they turned out to be.
I still live here and find such sweeping generalisms offensive.
Done Deal.
I need people who can recruit others to sign those petitions. Less than 10,000 signatures won’t do it. I need people to find others to sign the petition. Thank you.
signed
Speaking of recruiting, I’m of the opinion that KO’s comment from last night needs to be widely circulated. I’ve already begun that process via email. To my mind (such as it is) there’s nothing quite so convincing as attaching specific names to total bribe amounts. I also like the fact that he called Thune a “bald-faced liar”, straight up.
I don’t live anywhere near OK but I just sent an email to Mr. Boren asking if he represented the voters in his district who are demanding health care reform or if he represents his wealthy campaign contributors. I was nice about it, I promise.
What is wrong with these people?
They have government run health insurance and Medicare, which my mother uses, is pretty damn good. Clearly it works, so what’s the damn problem?!
“What is wrong with these people?”
We know what they are. We have only to establish the price.
Bbbbbbut! But! Butt!
Hillary would’ve been so much BETTER!

I’ve lived in Oklahoma all my life and grew up in what is Boren’s district. In the 60’s we had Ed Edmondson in that spot, and later Mike Synar, and both stood up for the little guy. My dad was an ironworker and involved in union leadership and my mom always volunteered at the union hall to try to get democrats elected. Neither of my parents graduated from high school because they had to quit school and work in the fields in the late 20’s and 30’s so their families wouldn’t starve. But they were smart and they were involved citizens and they knew who did and didn’t represent the people.
When I told my kids as teenagers a decade ago (as we sat at the kitchen table talking politics and bemoaning our representatives)that when I grew up it was heavily Democratic…they were shocked. They thought it had always been this way.
If I had to explain why it has all changed, I would suggest two reasons: The decline in union jobs (and manufacturing in general)and thus less political involvement by union members and the increased political involvement of fundie churches, always pushing the congregations to vote for the repugs….even though it is against their best interests.
“…always pushing the congregations to vote for the repugs…”
I’m in So Cal and this shit happens here, too. My question is this: How do these fundie gangsters get away with pushing political agendas from the pulpit without losing their tax-exempt statuses? IRS needs to step up its enforcement action on this crap. First, strip them of their tax status, next, strip them of their ill-gotten assets and finally, throw their asses in jail.
You don’t wanna get me started on this one…
Still spells whore in my book.
A whore by any other name…
I hate illogical thought.
Jackass. If we had single-payer, you could see any doctor you wanted. There would be real choice because you wouldn’t have to go see a doctor that was accepting your private health insurance. If you’re going to argue against single-payer, at least make an argument that isn’t totally illogical.
I don’t think they even have to endorse candidates by name, they just use the same talking points…..the old ‘family values’ lines that the repugs use in their campaigns. The congregants just have to match up the code words from their church with the code words from the candidates.
I completely agree that their tax exempt status should be revoked, but I’m guessing as long as the dance along the line (or hell, even if they cross it), that won’t happen. Unfortunately.
I’ve always said if I could change one thing in this country (and this state) that would make a huge difference, I would require that from kindergarten thru high school either the students take a critical thinking class each year, or that critical thinking sections be included in each subject taught. The fundies and repugs would fight it…..critical thinking leads to questioning, and they just don’t want that to happen.
“…I would require that from kindergarten thru high school either the students take a critical thinking class each year…”
I like it.
And don’t forget Mike Synar — of Muskogee (for real — no joke) — he was good, too. But he died many years ago. It’s been a long time, hasn’t it?
Well, live with it. That state voted for McCain — in 100% of its counties. (More than any deep south state, or even Utah). Jesus! Get off your “It’s MY state — right or wrong.”
One of the president’s commitments is that the reform should be deficit neutral.
The public option(s) will give people more choices than they currently have.
Since over 70% of the public wants the public option in this reform he (Boren) shouldn’t have any trouble with support from his home-state electorate.
