Obama Says “Nuts” to Surrendering on Health Care |
| By: Swopa Friday July 17, 2009 2:50 pm |
That’s basically what happened this afternoon in the healthcare-reform debate in Washington, D.C., as several members of the Narcissism Caucus in the Senate sent a letter urging that congressional leaders delay their consideration of reform legislation. President Obama then hastily pre-empted a scheduled press briefing to give a direct statement to reporters, insisting that “now is not the time to slow down” and “We are going to get this done. We will reform health care. it will happen this year.”
When the Women of Afghanistan Speak, Does Howard Dean Listen? |

I’ve got a few questions for Howard Dean after his repeat of hawkish talking points on Afghanistan.
Chuck Todd’s Law |
| By: emptywheel Friday July 17, 2009 1:20 pm |
Aside from MSNBC’s squeamishness about blowjobs (but not about the murder of teenagers or slobbering racism), here’s why, according to Chuck Todd, we cannot have an investigation of the crimes Dick Cheney committed because the media is incapable of learning the facts on a story well enough to present it as anything but a partisan fight, and because of that, any investigation would be a show trial of ideology rather than facts.
Wexler Takes the Pledge – Gets Picketed by Dick Armey |
| By: Jane Hamsher Friday July 17, 2009 12:20 pm |
Look, it’s going to get rough out there for members of the House who are committed to holding the line against very well-funded opposition to healthcare reform, and the Dick Armeys are always going to be available to dispatch canned teabaggery to embarrass and smear them for their conviction.
We’re adding Wexler to the Health Care Heroes page. Please consider stepping up today to show members of the House that grassroots public support will be there to get their backs when they do the right thing and stand up to insurance industry lobbyists.
Please donate to support Robert Wexler and those willing to go to the mat for a public plan.
Principled Conservatism: American Conservative Union Caught Whoring Itself Out to Highest Bidder |
| By: Blue Texan Friday July 17, 2009 10:30 am |
The ACU, that venerable organization founded by the likes of William F. Buckley and L. Brent Bozell and host of the annual CPAC convention, is no better than a street ho.
The American Conservative Union asked FedEx for a check for $2 million to $3 million in return for the group’s endorsement in a bitter legislative dispute, then flipped and sided with UPS after FedEx refused to pay.
For the $2 million
Ben Nelson Calls House Health Care Bill “Class Warfare” |
| By: Jane Hamsher Friday July 17, 2009 9:40 am |
” I spoke with a friend in the Lobby World yesterday. He says the health care issue has become interesting.
He says the Public Option has moved from “No Chance.” To: “Distant Maybe.”
But he says that tiny move has created a full on panic by the Insurance and Big Pharma teams. The clients who hire the lobbyists you have met have sent down the orders: Spend Everything!!! Kill This!!!”
Uncle Pat: MSNBC’s Knowing Promotion of White Supremacy and Racial Hatred |
| By: Scarecrow Friday July 17, 2009 8:50 am |
Throughout the confirmation process of Judge Sotomayor, MSNBC’s Pat Buchanan has repeated unvarnished white supremacist views at every opportunity. By why is MSNBC promoting his racist white supremacy and deliberate efforts to stir up racial hatred?
Charles Rangel on Blue Dogs Holding Health Care Hostage |
| By: Jane Hamsher Friday July 17, 2009 8:05 am |
Mike Stark spoke with Charles Rangel, Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, on the Hill.
Mike wanted to know how Mike Ross (D-AK) — who is negotiating for the Blue Dogs — can threaten to stop the House health care bill from going through without repercussion. Rangel says that Mike should ask Ross, but that’s not the question — Ross isn’t going to punish himself.
