Five years after he put his money behind the Swift Boat ads that helped tank John Kerry’s presidential campaign, Senate Democrats gave T. Boone Pickens a warm welcome at their weekly policy lunch Thursday.

Sen. Al Franken managed to make time for the lunch — but then let Pickens have it afterward.

According to a source, the wealthy oil and gas magnate and author of “The First Billion Is the Hardest” stepped up to introduce himself to Franken in a room just off the Senate Floor after the lunch ended

Franken, who was seated talking to someone else, did not stand when Pickens said hello. Instead, Franken began to berate him about the billionaire’s financing of the Swift Boat ads in 2004.

According to a source, the confrontation grew heated.

Only 42 percent of Republican respondents in a Research 2000 survey, conducted for the liberal website Daily Kos, said they thought Obama was a natural born citizen; 28 percent said they did not believe Obama was born in the United States; 30 percent said they were not sure………..On another note: Cultural politics, as perfected by Karl Rove and his disciples in the last administration, has caused a widening education gap in the makeup of the the parties: The high education areas Obama carried – 78 of the 100 counties with the highest education. McCain carried 88 of the 100 counties with the lowest education. It must be painfull to be a Republican.

Well sure, the facts don’t support what they’re saying, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they have to be batshit insane. They could be just very, very dishonest. To cut it slightly more finely: Birther leaders as a group probably lean to the dishonest side (Rush, Beck, Bachmann), with a couple true crazies mixed in there (Malkin), and the reason they’re doing it is solely to stir up large number of reichwing talk radio listener birther followers — who, as a group, probably lean not so much to the crazy end as to the easily-led/fact-impervious end. It’s a deeply cynical and manipulative bunch at the top; when they pull this crap on their base year after year and actually get away with it, it’s no wonder they see the public at large as undeserving.

Yep, The GOP in Minnesota gerrymandered CD-6 specifically to make it a GOP stronghold. The hotbed of crazy that decides the outcomes is the part of the district between the Twin Cities and St. Cloud, where the white supremacists and Confederacy wannabees are concentrated (not kidding).

The good news about the district is that it’s so out of whack with the rest of the state that the lunatic republicans who get elected there watch their careers die when they try to move on. Anyone remember Bachmann’s predecessor, Mark Kennedy? Of course not, Amy Klobuchar obliterated him in her Senate campaign.

Michele Bachmann represents her district. Well! It was created specifically to herd most of the state’s right-wing nuts into one district. Yes there are sane folks in St. Cloud and Stillwater, but most of them are scary.

I suppose there is some reason to try to defeat the poor woman, but why bother. Did you see one of her would-be competitors is a guy named Elwin Tinklenberg. You cannot make this shit up.

A better use of our political energy would be to get Obama to actually act like a Democrat.

The psychology of the true birthers — not the birther-enablers who are using this phenomenon for political gain — truly amazes me. I think the true birthers are trying to turn back time and make Obama’s election go away with this crusade. With 2010 right around the corner we have an opportunity to bring Bachmann home.

As a constituent and a blogger in MN-06, here are the facts about her competition:

1. Senator Tarryl Clark is WINNING the DFL endorsement race.
2. Clark has been able to win elections in her conservative district.
3. Senator Clark has worked the entire district listening to its residents even when she’s not running for office as part of her duties as Assistant Majority Leader.
4. Elwyn Tinklenberg is a Blue Dog Democrat as evidenced by his ‘08 endorsement and campaign literature.
5. Elwyn Tinklenberg has chosen not to abide by the DFL endorsement.
