Good morning.

It occurs to me that Cash for Clunkers may not turn environmentally friendly for many years, when you consider the energy content of mining, refining and shaping the news metals, and the petroleum products that go into the plastics and tires in the car. How many years before the increased mileage offsets the energy required to make a new car?

In the historic structures movement, the saying is that the most envirnmentally friendly house is the one that already exists, for precisely the considerations of the environmental cost of a new house. I wonder if the same thing might not be true for cars, mileage not withstanding.

Bob I wish I had the brains to debate more I think we agree but its my phrasing that keeps us apart. I’m tired I’m sorry I wish I could argue more.

Good morning, pups. It’s Collins, Blow and Herbert this morning. Ms. Collins, in “Have Gun, Will Travel,” points out that in order to come to a sensible national consensus on guns, Americans on both sides of the debate, especially politicians, need to focus more on empathy and compromise. Mr. Blow, in “Swan Songs?”, says piracy, single song downloads and now free, legal music streaming have all contributed to the breathtakingly fast dissolution of the music industry. (About which I know nothing — I turned the radio off when they started playing disco. Oh, yeah, get off my lawn…) Mr. Herbert says “Anger Has Its Place,” and that instead of eschewing anger in the face of continuing and deeply racist criminal justice outrages, ordinary black Americans need to channel those emotions into action that will bring change.

Here they are.

The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge for later, and I’ve got French toast made with challah, and warm maple syrup. We had another of what seems to be becoming almost nightly thunderstorms with drenching rain last night, so at least in this part of the state the drought is definitely over.

To answer bobschacht’s question about Rachel, probably because it was Friday night and MSNBC thought we were all in the mood to watch “MSNBC Undercover: Sex Slaves in America.” Feh. Thank heaven for SyFy… Have a great day.

Is the Left’s rejection of God a way of saying yes we can be good and decide the good without someone telling us to can we choose to be good?
Is the Right’s saying No to change and quoting the bible not often an excuse to prevent change and disturb the rich established order?

I reject your premise that the Left rejects God.
I associate with the Left of Martin Luther King, Jr.
I associate with the Left of Liberation Theology.
I associate with the Left of Dorothy Day, one of the founders of the Catholic Worker movement.
And I also associate with Tikkun and other progressive Jewish groups.

I like Jim Wallis’ answer in his book, How the Right Gets it Wrong, and How the Left Doesn’t Get it.

But what I really want to know is why there wasn’t any Rachel Maddow show today?

Is Empathy, Love the feeling understanding of how an other feels as if it were our own concern the Lizard brain emotional reason we first choose to be good by imaging stories of the bad happening to ourselves?
And or do we act good at first to please our parents.
How do morals grow and why in kids?
