Nobody could have anticipated:
On June 19, Rep. Mike Ross of Arkansas made clear that he and a group of other conservative Democrats known as the Blue Dogs were increasingly unhappy with the direction that health-care legislation was taking in the House…
Five days later, Ross was the guest of honor at a special "health-care industry reception," one of at least seven fundraisers for the Arkansas lawmaker held by health-care companies or their lobbyists this year, according to publicly available invitations.
It’s all part of the $1.4 million a day the health-care industry lobby is spending to make sure health care reform doesn’t reform anything at all.
Meanwhile, in districts represented by Blue Dog Democrats, like Lincoln Davis (D-TN) thousands of hard-working Americans line up for health care provided by living saints like Stan Brock because they either lack insurance or are under-insured — health care originally intended for the Third World but which is desperately needed here, in the self-proclaimed greatest nation on earth.

About Firedoglake
Stan Brock was Marlin Perkins’ sidekick on Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom. The guy that would be wrestling the Anaconda on camera while Perkins narrated. Amazing guy.
So this is our glorious Republican future, working Americans standing in line for charity health care. Great.
Now that IS interesting!
Good morning, pups. It’s Bobo and Krugman. Somebody sent Bobo a pre-release copy of a book on the Fed, so now he’s gonna ’splain it to us. In “Wise Muddling Through” he says that the Federal Reserve is not the most democratic institution, but under Ben Bernanke, Henry Paulson, Tim Geithner and others it seems to have done a good enough job. “A good enough job” apparently means didn’t completely frack up EVERYTHING that they touched. Prof. Krugman, in “Health Care Realities,” says many Americans don’t understand that getting the government involved in health care wouldn’t be radical: the government is already deeply involved, even in private insurance.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and I’ve got pancakes made with fresh blueberries. Whee! It’s Friday! Not only is it Friday, but I’m looking forward to a weekend without a huge long list of errands to run. Life is good. Have a great day.
Marlin Crazy had a number of cohosts, Raven. Most memorable was Jim Fowler, who inherited the show after Perkins retired. But he also had several other sidekick characters who would appear with him in the series. Stan was one of them. I definitely remember the snake wrestling.
Health care, red in tooth and claw. It’s just natural.
Which one was the dude that would bring critters to the Carson show?
I wish I could remember how to speak French.
OT-Some may remember that Mr. Solai manages a GM dealership. Well, I’m here to report that all the hype you’re reading about Cash For Clunkers is absolutely true. He’s selling a lot of cars and so is everyone else. We had dinner last night with a manager from a KIA dealership and the 2 guys spent a good deal of time marveling at the numbers they’re selling. They’re supposed to get the fed money within 10 days so I’ll report back on how that’s going.
Thank you for this video. It made me cry.
Jim Fowler.
Good morning all and thanks for the post, Attaturk.
Much woe-is-meing on msnbc right now over Pelosi calling health insurance companies immoral. As if they are not immoral. But all is well because pat buchanon is there to explain that the real problem facing America is the evil leftist conspiracy headed up by Pelosi. Thank heavens we have the gifted political insights of couldn’t-hold-a-house-seat joe and never-been-elected-to-anything pat.
Typical. A great govt program, so the govt won’t fund it. In contrast to bas govt programs, like military toys, that get all the funding in the world. Glad to hear it worked for Mr. solai.
mentioned this yesterday but did anybody see Michelle Bachman get eviscerated vby thr Bimbis on that show Happy Hour on Fox Business Chanel? I went “Whoa” outloud. Good stuff.
sorry ’bout the typos. coffee needed. badly
Did I hear Joe say that 75% of Americans support health ins companies while only 35% support Pelosi?
Missed it.
Is that too long for a t-shirt? That’s a great line — sad, but true.
…pat buchanon is there to explain that the real problem facing America is the evil leftist conspiracy headed up by Pelosi.
I give Buchanan’s lawyers props for evidently drafting his contract with no morals clause.
I’m off. Barely ever here, it seems.
Yes. There are times when the particular brand of stupid on that show actually hurts.
I give Buchanan’s lawyers props for evidently drafting his contract with no morals clause.
A requirement for any legal document involving pat because he has no morals.
When you need a working class hero, don’t call a Blue Dog. Their efforts are strictly reserved for America’s plutocracy.
I am not optimistic about the shape of the health care reform bill. I say let it rot and campaign in 2010 against those Republicans and Blue Dogs who voted for the status quo. The system already consumes about 18% of GDP and it will be 20% in few years. Let’s make sure the GOP and the Blue Dogs get the credit they richly deserve for perpetuating an inaccessible, unaffordable and inequitable health care system which is designed that way in order to ration health care in America to healthy, well-to-do Americans and to dump the rest onto the public sidewalk in order to maximize profits for the health care industry.
It’s an unsustainable system. That’s why all other major industrialized countries in the West deliver their superior health care through a single payer universal health care system.
Let this bill and the Blue Dogs, in particular, fail and fail hard.
I agree. But remember, even if the U.S. went to a single-payer, the Rs and the BDs would make sure that it works as poorly as possible. (Think W & Katrina.) Just so you are not deluded about how good it could be if only U.S. went to single payer.
Does anyone know the percentage of the populaltion that the Blue Cross Democrats represent? The founding fathers were concerned about the tyranny of the majority when what we have today is the tyranny of the minority.
Morning all. Sometimes I just feel like we’re a bunch of sheep being herded

Heh. Maybe that’s a better name for them than Blue Dogs…
Extreme blueberry raising, right up the road from me.
…even if the U.S. went to a single-payer, the Rs and the BDs would make sure that it works as poorly as possible.
publicly-financed elections would take the incentive out of elected officials working for the big donors, rather than their real constituency.
Great video. Thank you.
Being herded, yes. Willing to stand for it, no.
That’s not very likely in my lifetime.
The country will collapse under the weight of it’s own corruption and hypocrisy before campaign finance reform is a reality. Hoping the upper midwest becomes a part of Canada.
Has Stan Brock given testimony before Congress?
If not, then the President should host a tea with required attendance of every elected member of Congress to watch this piece and have Stan speak. Elected members, no staff substitutes.
My in-laws were among the working uninsured and attended one of Stan’s RAMP. My inlaws owned their own business and my father-in-law worked as an optometrist. Despite their hard work and frugal life, they never had enough money to cover their deductible.
Additionally, a former neighbor owns his own business and cannot afford any independent business medical insurance. He can afford, at times, to pay cash for treatment but finds it almost impossible to find doctors willing to take cash payments. This lack of health insurance added to their family stress and became a stress in their marriage. They are now probably going to get a divorce. I think having access to affordable health care would have saved their marriage and protected their kids from all the stress and heartache.
We live in a very divided country.
Selfish Greedy Bastards vs Charitable Saints.
Jane,
If you are reading…And I know you do not need any advice. Your team, whipping the public plan vote, is doing such incredible work.
In addition to all the personal narratives, three voices I would focus on to carry the robust public plan focus would be Chris Link, Wendell Potter and Stan Brock.
What a mess. Progressive and populous states fund regressive and sparsely populated states whose senators thwart the will of the majority while legally on the take, and yet those are the same ones who have tea parties. Perhaps the only way forward is states rights…enable states to implement their own public or single payer programs with their share of a federal healthcare pie. Then the voters in the regressive states can see what their politics actually cost them.
I caught the story of Stan Brock and his RAM organization on a 60 minutes piece that was done about two years ago. It was heart breaking having to see Americans without health care seek help and having to take numbers while standing in line for hours or camping out over night to be first in line. The lucky ones got in, while others had to be turned away.
His group draws from physicians with a moral perspective in helping their fellow man and Brock himself takes no salary. His group has helped thousands over the years with problems ranging from cancer to dental work and glasses. If ever there were a candidate for the Nobel prize it’s Stan Brock and I hope that those who look further into this amazing man will help him continue his work by sending a contribution his way.
Those Blue Dogs must have the House barber shave their fat faces because I don’t see how they could look themselves in the mirror to do it.
Thanks so much for posting the heartwrenching “60 Minutes” video.

The great thing about the “health care industry” is that it utilizes the concept of interchangeable parts that Thomas Jefferson brought back from France. That way you get higher efficiencies out of your indentured workers for the same pay and increase your profit margin many-fold. Thank goodness for the Edison light bulb so we could benefit even more by shift work. God, I miss the screaming.
I thought that vampires couldn’t look in mirrors.
