Mike Stark continues his series on the Hill asking Rep. Pete King (R-NY) what he thinks of Rush Limbaugh:
STARK: Republicans these days seem to have been — well, really forever I guess — aligning themselves with Rush Limbaugh. But Rush Limbaugh has said things like that in order to get ahead in the Obama administration, you have to hate on white people. That the NAACP should train their folks to rob liquor stores better. Even said that slavery wasn’t all bad, because — well, for one thing, the streets were safer after dark. So I’m curious….
KING: Are you curious, really?
STARK: Yeah. Will you denounce Rush Limbaugh for saying things like that?
Will he? What do you want to bet? Well. . . listen to the video to find out the answer.
Limbaugh says things like this all the time. Mike was asking the question on behalf of Color of Change as part of their campaign to get leaders of the Republican Party to publicly denounce Limbaugh for his brand of hurtful race baiting and fear mongering.
Stop by and help out Color of Change by sending a letter asking GOP leadership to denounce Limbaugh.

Your kidding me with this post right? Limbaugh is completely on the offensive now, and has Obama on the defensive. Why would a Republican anybody who wants to hold any political career in the future denounce El Rushbo. That would be political suicide. Lame worthless post.
We need more “ignorance” of the type exhibited by Mike Stark and much less of the “intelligence” shown by Peter King and Rush Limbaugh.
Marcy’s gonna hit me over the head for saying this, but I thought Pete King got the better of the interview. King kept his his cool better than Stark, and showed a sense of humor.
Rush is a pig and no person should wish to be identified with what he says, but King actually went so far as to say he had disagreeemnts with Limbaugh. In a backhanded way, he kinda did seperate himself from El Rushbo, though he did not address the specific quotes Stark posed to him.
Ok, you can all through rotten eggs and tomatoes at me now
Limbaugh has Obama on the defensive?
I’m guessing you’re one of the 15 percenters.
Same old same old Republican bullshit! They will never pick a fight with the biggest Bigot they have. It is all they have!!
Hi Jane Happy belated B-Day!! Hope you saw your B-day Pie from last Saturdays Meetup!!
I am very happy to see all the great improvements at the Lake!! You guys ROCK!! Keep up the great work!!
Thanks nahant! It was a good day. Had much fun.
You are correct in one thing, rush is offensive.
I do disagree Cynthia. King lost any moral superiority he might have had by his tepid “I’ve had disagreements with Rush” way earlier when he called Mike ignorant for the questions.
They were valid questions and his snide and dismissive attitude seems rather typical of most all the Representatives on the Hill.
Stark: “Hi, You’re always good for a quote.“
King’s too canny for run-and-gun baiting, especially when it comes to defending live white benefactors…As opposed to dead black celebrities, of course.
;>)
“You haven’t done your homework” certainly got the right response from Mike, though: “I haven’t made it my life’s work to study everything you do.”
I’d love to be a fly on the wall of EITHER caucus when Mike Stark’s name comes up. You know they must be talking about their interactions with him.
Any news since this morning on the state of the HC reform bill coming from 6 people on the Senate Finance Committee? Plz tell me this is not the best we can do while controlling two branches of government. (The Republicans and Federalist society still control the third.) News? news?
I didn’t see it that way. I saw King dodge the central question.
Mike is the FLY in their ointment!! He is doing a great job on these two faced S O B s.
Chris Matthews still crediting this to HuffPo rather than FDL. Psst, Chris, fact check alert.
Really there are far too many times that the drug addled wind bag has used hate speech. There is no way anyone could denounce just his racist rants.
Here are some Rushbo quotes:
“And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up.”
“Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive
women easier access to the mainstream of society.”
“I may be wrong … Lindsey Graham is certainly close enough to [McCain] to die of anal poisoning.”
“He [Michael J. Fox] is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He’s moving all around and shaking and it’s purely an act. . .”
The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. There is a little hope invested in [Donovan] McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn’t deserve.”
“The poorest people in America are better off than the mainstream families of Europe”
“The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies”
Yeah he’s no Dana Bash.

Actually dakine, at that point in the video, I thought Stark had him. I figured King was going to go batshit and lose his temper. But he reigned it back in and then got Stark to get personal with the “well I don’t have time to make you the focus of all my attention” stuff (I paraphrased)
I thought King pulled it out of the nosedive. I thought King did better than I expected him to.
I could not agree more, King was very CLEARLY trying to dodge the cenral question.
Hells bells, who in their right mind would try to defend quotes like that?
But I thought King did a decent job (after his initial crappy start) of looking sane and putting stark on the defensive. You hear it in how their respective tones of voice change.
I think we are all in concensus that Rush is vile
What’s the point of bashing Rush? It’s futile. Face it, he’s not going away, and neither are his listeners. It’s a waste of time and energy. Far better to ignore him than to give him platforms he wouldn’t ordinarily have. Deal with things that you can do something about.
Ol’ Rush might not be going anywhere but anything we can do that makes a drag on Clear channel ratings and ad sales can’t be a bad thing.
Pointing out Rush’s idiocies is all part of the effort.
Will it be a smashing success? Probably not. But that doesn’t mean the effort isn’t worth it. We will never capture the 15% but we can tie the Rs to him such that the supposedly sane politicians have to calculate the damage he does to them with his statements.
You could write a best selling and funny book. Then later become a Senator.
I’m not following your logic here. It seems to me that ignoring or blithely accepting propaganda spearpoints rather than exposing and discussing them has rather large consequences – the effects of the last 8 years of American political history, for example.
Please expand upon this thought, if you would.
How many years (decades, really) has that dangerous and, yes, idiotic “ignore them” advice crippled, blocked, neutered diluted and just generally helped to annihilate the progressive message?
Rush, Palin, Sanford, Liz C., Jindahl, Hannity, Beck, O’Reilly, Birthers
Obama is blessed with the best opponents a politician could possibly have.
Oops, this is in response to darkblack @ 25
Who’s mind are you going to change? Not advertisers. Not anybody on the right. Not anybody on the left. Not anybody in the media. He is what he is, and he’s not going anywhere. It’s a waste of effort to fight things you ain’t never gonna change. Mo’ better to work on things you can change. That’s all I’m saying.
Wow, I’m surprised that you think the progressive message has ever been annihilated.
I think you think Limbaugh has much more influence that he really does.
It appears that Mike is getting a bit of mainstream attention and can bring a critique that is not otherwise heard onto regular tee vee.
Advertisers, to paraphrase T.E Lawrence, can be swung on an idea as on a cord…especially when that idea is diminished profit due to association with an unsavory character.
As for the rest of whose minds cannot be changed…The true Right and Left in America are by definition minorities – yet they (especially the Right) are oft touted as crucial demographics by a fawning media with vested interests in the outcome of their reporting, who are in turn owned by corporations dependent on advertising revenue to maintain a flow of commerce…One follows the other.
Should that income be impeded, such entities would have no desire to prop up a failing enterprise, as the profit motive would find that unacceptable in toto.
The history of Mass Media is shot through with the stories of pressure groups who bring their subjective interests to bear on recalcitrant objectives with success.
What is really being “sold” through Mike’s interactions is the failure of these elected officials to be accountable to anyone on issues that speak to voters or the public. When they see these entitled people refusing time and again to answer basic questions, they will begin to have a few questions of their own. Like, “That guy wants my vote? Hel-lo.”
SPeaking of Beck…….
Did he just call the President of the United States racist?? Really??
Has Beck now gone off the deep end? Hmm, scratch that, DEEPER off the deep end??? WFT???
Pete King puts it back on Stark. What a cowardly asshole King is.
Today on Ass Limbo’s show he was talking about the new fluorescent light bulbs & how Obama & Gates are snobs (he mingled these two subjects together). Then in the next breath he says he has enough light bulbs in his possession for the next 10 years (only the uber wealthy would!) and then says, “How the heck are we going to use these bulbs in chandeliers?!!!!!!”. Instantly he realizes how he’s coming across (as a snobby asshole) and then says, (paraphrasing) “Errr….every lamp is a chandelier. I don’t want you people to think I’m a wealthy snob. I’m just a regular guy. Really”.
When future historians look back on what brought the mighty American Empire down they will likely ask why demogogues like Limbaugh et al where given free rein in the MSM. Oh, that’s right. They made the captains of the corporate media lots of money and isn’t that what free market capitalism is all about?
Indeed, a tray of Big Macs tastes so much better under dangling Swarovski crystal.
;>)
Your “ignore them” refrain is not exclusively about Limbaugh. The “ignore them” refrain has been the death of progressive media for nearly two decades. Limbaugh is but one boil in need of lancing among many, including the conglomerates such as Clear Channel Communications/radio which have swamped the airwaves and print media. That is what I meant about the foolishness of thinking, after years of learning otherwise, that “ignore them” is a winning approach, or non approach, to a dangerous and fatal problem.
Once more the GOP shows their “moral superiority”.
Maybe Jim Bunning will have an open seat in the State Senate to campaign for?
Tennessee State Senator Resigns after Being Blackmailed Over Sex With Intern
I really thought the guys comments on “Do What I Claim I believe in, Not as I Do” comment was so “Limbaughesk”
You know, I’m not sure if Rep Pete King will denounce Mr. Limbaugh.
However, I sure would like to know if Rep. Tom Price will confirm that he will most definitely NOT bill his taxpayer-funded heathcare plan for any services that he may or may not have received and/or may not be planning to receive from Canadian Healthcare Hater Shona Robertson-Holmes with whom he shared a conference call earlier this evening.
And what kinds of services does the good Ms. Robertson-Holmes, the lady who didn’t actually have a malignant brain tumor, but kinda/sorta pretended she did in the services of the Haters’ Club, have on offer……?
Why, all kinds of stuff.
Which includes, but is not limited to, cyber sex addiction therapy.
Imagine that!
____
Gosh, maybe this is something Mr. Stark could ask the good Rep. Price about tomorrow.
