My favorite line from the latest million mile an hour speech by the Resignator was the one where she told people to be careful about accepting "government largess" (looks like she got out a thesaurus for once).
This from governor who doled out checks of literally thousands to each Alaskan resident (each man, woman and child) in her few years of office.
Not to mention Alaska takes far more money from the Federal Government per capita than any state, something that hasn’t ended under Sarah Palin.
But, of course, there is also insistence she’s a hero for quitting the job she was elected to serve, driven out, among other things by "delicate, tiny, very talented celebrity starlets" who oppose shooting animals from helicopters. And then this bon mot to the media, ”How about, in honor of the American soldier, you quit makin’ things up?” Yes, she managed to dedicate her quitting to soldiers who cannot until their terms are over (and sometimes not even then).
Someone had the right idea:
Larry Landry, 51, of Fairbanks held up a red, white and blue sign that that read, "Quitting: the new American value." The other side read: "Thanks for the laughs."
Yes, but you know the sequel is on the way.

Alaska, a welfare state. Is this (shudder) socialism?
Yup, yup. The Twit from Tundra has quit. Also.
We won’t have Sarah Milhous Palin to kick around any more. You betcha.
Nixon was 39 when he gave that speech.
In racing, say, the Ididntarod, isn’t this called a breakdown?
Sarah’s gut is on holiday.
There never was a plan. Also, too, we need to prepare for the Sunday morning appearances.
Good morning, pups. It’s [sigh] Douthat, Cohen and Krugman this morning. Pasty little Ross, in “The War We’d Like to Forget,” says America’s most important interest remains a stable, unified Iraq, even if it takes longer than any domestic faction wants. Mr. Cohen, in “A Nation Hard to Short,” says the miracle of New York gives reason to believe in America. Prof. Krugman, in “An Incoherent Truth,” says on health care, the Blue Dogs aren’t making sense. The conservative Democrats can’t extract major concessions on the shape of health care reform without dooming the whole project.

The coffee and tea are ready, the cold drinks are in the fridge, and the biscuits are out of the oven. I intend to send Krugman’s column to my useless Congresscritter, one of the bluest of the blue dogs. Have a great day.
Good Morning. I’m watching MoJoe which is still Joe-less. Pat Buchanon is trying desperately to defend Palin. No one’s buying. Maybe Mika should switch back to the Gates arrest since she now will have Pat to help her out.
Good morning. I just got done watching the authors on the new book about the Baatan death march. What an amazing piece of work.
The woman typifies what too many americans worship – celebrity and money. She’s in it for both and lacks substance or talent. She was fortunate to have a pleasant appearance which she is leveraging to the hilt and mouthing right wing rubbish to fire up the anger of those who can’t have a thought for themselves and becoming their figurehead. The media is making her and she is laughing all the way to the bank. She doesn’t care about anything but herself, another typical republican meme. Me first, get yours and don’t worry about the next guy.
And isn’t it cute how she continually attacks them? I gave up watching the “news” on the TeeBee years ago.
Where’s Edward Teller? Wonder if he’s enjoying this.
For everyone’s enjoyment: “I Feel Quity”

Q: Which one (1) of these was not lying?
“I am not a crook” – RMN, November 17, 1973
“I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic” – Rupert Murdoch, becoming a US citizen, 1985.
“… the USA will no longer be a superpower. Its deterioration will be rapid.” – Baghdad Bob, 2003.
“With this decision, now, I will be able to fight even harder for you, for what is right, and for truth. “
- Sarah Palin, July 26, 2009
I hope I can fall asleep before Grover Norquist comes up on Washington Journal. If not I’ll be so mad I’ll never sleep again.
The editor of Wired is on cspan2. Very interesting.
George W. is jealous he wasn’t able to do anything like that.
Hi. The story on Obama is like Hoover was subscription only so I couldn’t read it. It’s not that the price was a barrier, but rather that my mailbox and email box already has too much stuff in it.
During the Iran hostage crisis, I worked with a man who had been a Marine on Corregidor, captured when the Japanese invaded the P.I.. He spent the war as a POW in the P.I. and Japan (survided one torpedoing when packed in ship to Japan). He was fairly irate over the treatment of U.S. Iran embassy personnel as heroes. He told me that, after the war, he was mustered out of the service in California, weighed 87 lbs (about 6′ tall), and hitch-hiked back to his home in Kansas.
From the article
Sarah and Todd love Alaska so much..they’ll be buying a house in the Hamptons to prove it!
I haven’t read the book yet, but I read a review in the NYT, coupled with watching the authors this morning, and both suggest it is a fabulous book: the kind where if you wanted to read only one book on the subject, this is it. It took them 10 years. Among other things, they interviewed Japanese survivors. Turns out the training for Japanese military was inhuman. They were beaten and mistreated in every way you can think of to turn them into an inhuman fighting force. Not saying that to excuse what they did, but just to explain how you get regular folks to do such stuff.
I’m a big naysayer about Obama’s economics team, so I wouldn’t disagree with that. But it’s the whole shape of the argument and the evidence that I’d be interested in.
Yeah, some heroes. The were merely bit players in Raygun’s presidential campaign.
The similarities drawn between Hoover and Obama are striking.
WTF? Hillary called Zalaya reckless for trying to go back to Honduras.
I tried to find that book last week. Will have to order. Thanks for the recommendation.
The Code of Bushido in WWII was used as a tool to motivate the ignorant masses to murder and die in the name of the emperor. For example, the rape, torture and murder of over 300,000 “unarmed” civilians in Nanking was justified by the arrogance and racism of the Code. The estimated 10 million Chinese (mostly civilians)killed starved and murdered with biological weapons by the Japanese was not at all “honorable”.The military in control of the government and the puppet “divine” emperor used the Code to brainwash and control the ordinary soldier. Some of the Code’s character traits such as Justice, Unselfishness, Righteousness, Honor and Virtue were a joke in WWII. Using the “divine wind” or kamikaze to die in large numbers for naught was renamed “passing wind” by U.S. pilots.Blind obedience in the name of Country– what a waste. The Japanese people deserved better.
I gotta admit that as a vacuum to draw off the initiative and motivation that might have been directed towards investigating and indicting the crimes of the bush administration and dismantling the networks that stil exist she’s done an excellent excellent job….. unfortunately.
She sure done her job of d(e/i)str(a/u)ction.
DDT (Decoy, distract, trash).
Precisely.
Nixon was 39 when he gave that speech.
You are thinking of the “Checkers” speech. The reference is to the “You won’t have Nixon to kick around any more” speech.
The speech was given after he lost the 1964 gubernatorial race in California. He was 51 years old.
Good point in the song. Shesus of Wasilla swore solemnly, on the Bible, so help her God, that she would faithfully discharge her duties as governor. The oath didn’t mention dead fish, higher callings, or basketball.
Yes Aaska is a welfare state. Check out the activities of the “Alaskan Native Corporations” which are Permanently Enabled to take no bid contracts on minority & disadvantaged set asides.
Anyone know what’s with the strange American flag in the picture?
It has Alaska spelled “ALAZKA” and with a strange red X across it?
Am I seeing this wrong or just what is it?
