Right now, the biggest obstacle to health care reform is an arch conservative "Blue Dog" Democrat called Mike Ross. As BT mentions here, this is more about preserving his own pork barrel than anything else — and it turns out that it’s a double-barreled pork receptacle, his own Ross Pharmacy enterprise and that of his health-industry donors.
Tell Mike Ross to stop putting his personal pork-barrel interests before his country’s — and his state’s — survival. Call him at 1-800-223-2220, 1-202 225-3772.
And when you’re done calling him, drop a note on his Facebook page, too.
Don’t forget to write letters to his hometown papers. Let Arkansas know he’s screwing them — and the rest of America — for his own gain!

Thank you, PW.. from the bottom of my little blue Arkansas heart.
PW, did I mention I was wring earlier?
Hey Raven!
The pleasure’s mine.
Uh, I hate to tell you this, but I went over to Ross’ Facebook page to leave him a comment and they’re like 2-1 AGAINST a public option or real reform.
Do we really have the people on this?
Are those asshats those people are wearing? :)
ssssuuuuuuieeeee
bacon.
razorback bacon
Ole Miss used to play them and I always got such a kick out of calling the pigs.
His district is dirt poor, poorly educated, and suffers from the worst media I can imagine. Bigotry is so high in that area.. they would rather shoot their children than help a colored person. They will absolutely demand Ross screw them over.
I have a question: has anyone had luck getting a letter-to-the-editor published yet? Were they a resident of the area? I wonder if newspapers are going to be interested in publishing a letter in Arkansas from someone in, um, San Francisco. Has anyone got their letter in the paper?
Just stopping by to say, “Thank you Harry Reid, for grabbing your ankles once more for HoJo and your Rethug friends !”
Left you one in EPUland.
Well the fact that he’s even willing to possibly vote for a public option is to me a victory onto itself.
I’ll keep pressuring though. I think he will be behind us in the end.
New York papers do sometimes print letters or comments from out of region people, but I’ve only ever seen GOP leaning comments.
thx, needed that
Blue Dogs are like Republican sleeper cells, infiltrating the Dem party and waiting for an opportunity to blow up any progressive legislation. I’d like to see them booted from the party. If they always act like Republicans, force them to BE Republicans.
You’re welcome. Just call ‘em as I see ‘em, including when evidence suggests I should change my mind. *g* (Keynes allegedly said, though I have been unable to confirm in a desultory search, “When I’m wrong I change my mind. What do you do?”)
would probably require a carefully crafted letter to be sure. I noticed on one online AR newspaper submission page today.. residency was required.
If you want to say something in AR, send it to me and I would submit it for you.
1) Not unless its a slow letter day locals buy the paper they get to see their names in print
2) Do you agree with management maybe the local GOP paper might print it because they hate him
3) you are going to have to wow them.
Too bad it’s not the New Paltz Times. Policy is to publish ALL LTO submitted, with very few exceptions.
Speaking of Pork this is where Nancy shows that she is boss all the Pork Mike’s district gets Gone! Who cares if he flips GOP HealthCare is bigger than him plus we can afford to lose him in the House.
If we get HealthCare that is bigger than having Mike for 100 close votes.
Next the people giving Mike money they might be told all of there government contracts might be audited and pulled tell them lots of ex Arthur Anderson employees familiar with complex accounts like Enron had are still looking for work.
Obama said he was going to see where he could make the system more efficient what better place than the biggest spenders trying to stop him?
After all who else has likely more to hide?
Here’s the most recent sample. I missed the link on first perusal.
Nancy has a bigger majority and no filibuster if she can’t bring this to a vote I say we axe her.
Completely OT: I saw a picture of a Blue Grosbeak in a birder mag this afternoon snapped in central New York. Have you ever encountered any? Magnificent bird.
Metaphorically speaking, of course.
For a small local paper with no axe to grind politically this is the answer. Teachers can get kids to write a letter parents, friends, Grandparents must all get copy.
Everyone writing a letter will buy the paper and if they said anything interesting they might buy the paper for a week reading comments both good and bad.
Next they are not paying these writers are they?
The congress should NOT be allowed to go on “vacation” until/unless they get this thing done. I’m having a hard time distinguishing one party from the other these days.
Of course no violence at the Lake. I wish Nancy well…in retirement.
Hey, TCU
Which Mike are you talking about?
Dave Reichert is a republican.
FWDiva
Sent her an e-mail at The Gavel and said that LBJ could have gotten this done and she should, too. Don’t imagine that will make me a fav.
No I haven’t. I tried to submit a comment with links about rosebreasted grosbeak, but kept getting error.
Not that I know of. I’ve had several letters published, as the policy sez, every time I’ve submitted. As you say, it’s smart policy in a small town. It’s also pretty funny at times, as feuds get played out in public. One side writing one week (weekly pub), and the other side the next week.
We discussed the rosebreasted grosbeak some time back. I had one stopover in my backyard for about ten days maybe three summers ago. Wish they would become regulars.
Happens all the time in our ES paper – The Lovely Citizen. Folks love it.
I want to know why the Mrs. is the only one at the feeder for the last 2 weeks. Does the Mr. incubate? Would have to be second clutch of the season? Bird behavior book I own does not say.
LTE feuds as the BEST thing about the local paper. I can’t read it because about half the articles are about development, and that gives me a bad bad case of agita. It’s bad enough to have to see the developments without having to read about them first. But sometimes I pick up a copy at the supermarket and the LTE are always the highlight.
The one I saw was male. He seemed hesitant to muck in with the other birds, preferring to snag seed scattered around the periphery. I should have kept a camera handy, could have gotten some great shots of him perched on the side of the bath.
What I was reading a little while ago said the rosebreasted grosbeak is part of the Cardinal family. The behavior I witnessed was similar. The cardinals will mix some with other varieties but tend to be a little shy.
PW, were you able to decrypt the conundrum of Ross owning 100% of the stock of the company he allegedly “sold?”
Mysterious.
I caught some snippy comments from Nancy’s daughter once at FDL something about me not knowing the Legislative process and how things are done.
Everything I know I learned reading Mike Royko oh and school of course. If Nancy fails to get a vote on this I just might dig those comments up for a Diary.
Mike Ross the guy this post is about?
Great way to get local interest a joint FDL conservative blog with such a comment policy would really rake them in and probably give the Mods a heart attack.
Good idea. I really liked Royko. I remember the comments from Nancy’s daughter – she just didn’t get it that she was talking to people who actually know what’s going on, when and where. Dumb.
Cronyism on the Dem side the Crony who lets everyone take advantage of them in order to be liked. And then insists that they are not being taken advantage of.
Especially in light of the fact that LBJ DIDN’T get it done. I doubt in those days it was a high priority though.
and he had to water down Civil Rights somewhat to get that done too.
That would be a dream come true.
