Sometimes that place is a frying pan at night. Other times it cools off rather nicely. When I lived in Davis, it was a toss-up. But 85 at 2am was not unusual.

In ‘85 when I moved up there, we called the place “equatorial Davis”. It was ridiculous. We slept on the lawn.

In East Davis are (or were) hundreds of post-Korean War lean-to’s that rented out mostly to students. Some were 3-bedrooms and a few duplexes. Each had a wall-mounted radiant gas heater and no other environmental mods, all with tar-and-gravel roofs and sub-standard electrical. They were ovens. Not one A/C unit anywhere.

I had friends from PA who talked about Genesee all the time.
From what I gathered, it was the cheap and easy frustration of birth control on the eastern seaboard.

In college, it was a 40-oz bottle of Pabst for 60 cents and a bag of beer nuts for 39 cents. Ten cent cashback when I brought a bottle back. Usually saved them til I was out of cash, then redeemed.

The only time I had “Genny” was visiting my cousin in Pa. On tap, it was drinkable.

In a town like Davis, where the university is world-renowned for producing brewmasters and winemakers, you would have thought that someone would have made some cheap, local brew. Turns out the enology and viticulture students were out smoking dope.

Hah! 60 cent days were 1972. Friends drove cross-country from NJ to Cal in 1970 and came home with a vanful of oly’s and Coors saying everybody in Cal drinks this stuff. We believed it for a week, then switched back to Pabst and Miller.

But the worst beer was Schaefer. You could feel the headache coming after half a can.

I fell asleep, now I’m wide awake and it’s 2;30 am. And it didn’t get over 70 here today, something about the jet stream dipping down.

I have heard tell of the Schaefer. Never had the pressure, however.

LOL-Definitely remember that one!! I used to usher at the Music Hall that year. Great shows! They played in NY the night before. Zappa, Yes, Doobies, Eagles,Dead, etc. for free. Then after Christmas, they actually paid us $5 per show. Gave us enough $$ for a tuna fish sandwich at Ken’s on Boyleston!

That was on the coast, right? Haven’t been there, but heard of it. I used to drive to NH and Vt every October cuz of the amazing foliage.

We are going back there on august 20th tiil the 1st for two weddings. In between them we are going up to Maine to my sister’s cabin then over to Gilford NH on Winnipesaukee for a night at the Gunstock Inn, some old friends from here are the owners!!

Ya gotta visit there emerson it is a great place! Click on the link for the map!! My Father’s family lived there and are now buried there in the Town Cemetery overlooking the Atlantic… Can’t wait to get back there for some good times instead of Funerals!

Now that’s a trip, Nahant! Been to the Lake a long time ago. I do love that part of the country. Used to go back east every year, but it’s been a few years now. You’re right, gots to get back soon. Maybe in the fall.
