Republicans are also likely to insist that all 40 of their members speak on the Senate floor about the Supreme Court nomination of Sonia Sotomayor before that vote, taking up still more time.

Mini-filibuster. How about we bust your asses in 2010.

EPU’d

I don’t suppose anyone thinks that Dr Gates saw the potential “teachable moment” that could only come from him being arrested?

Circulated in one of the FDL threads yesterday. A must read. THE “CHRISTIAN” MAFIA.

The author Wayne Madsen was an FBI operations officer assigned to a sting of a kiddie porn perp, Lt. Commander William Frawley, operating out of the Coos Head, Oregon Naval Facility. After it was discovered that Frawley was associated with the Officers Christian Fellowship and was distributing the kiddie porn to top-ranking military officers, lawyers and members of the clergy, the perp got a slap on the wrist and the author was shafted by the government.

Among the many gems in the story:

A number of observers of the Fellowship claim politicians love to get involved with the group because it is a way for them to escape accountability for their actions.

In another, the author implicates the Fellowship in the downing of the executive jet carrying the Hutu Presidents of Rwanda and Burundi from a peace summit in Tanzania. The plane was shot down by Soviet made surface-to-air missiles captured by U.S. forces from Iraq in Desert Storm. The results of the downing of the aircraft were staggering: 800,000 people died in Rwanda in Hutu-Tutsi ethnic warfare after the attack.

Also in Masden’s article

Prior to 2000, the FBI, in a report titled “Project Megiddo” warned that Christian millenialist sects might use the beginning of the 21st century to pull of a grand terrorist act…. The FBI report warned that Christian millenialists might strike military installations and buildings in New York City such as the UN headquarters.

Deniability factor – while filibustering – indeed.

Durbin: ‘It would be better if some Republicans joined us instead of just criticizing.’

These obstructions are all intended to keep from doing their job of representing the public, and are their only way of expressing their opposition to that constituency at present. Gotta push hard to get back on track.

Also in Maden’s story, if it’s not already common knowledge.

On or about April 18, 1972, the Houston Police arrested First Lieutenant George W. Bush of the Texas Air National Guard for possession of cocaine. Bush and a friend were booked into the Harris County jail. Bush’s father, who was serving as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, hurriedly flew to Houston from New York and began to make the required phone calls to keep his son from receiving a court martial, dishonorable discharge, and a prison sentence. As one senior Bush business partner recalled, then-Ambassador Bush knew that junior was in “deep shit.”

And soon it followed…the country was prayed into the ‘dark side’ and a ‘ dark age’ was established.

There were wise ones that looked for the truth and they were plowed asunder.

Much of what Masden is reporting was previously reported by Jeff Sharlet in a 2003 Harper’s article about the Fellowship. I had read Sharlet’s article when it came out. Masden’s story substantiates Sharlet’s earlier notes, and brings it up to date.

If the credibility of an ex-FBI agent has no value to you, I concede that this information is not intended for you.

No, the damage to him was done with the phone call and initial contact with the cops. Did he “make” himself get arrested? Only the people who were there know but if he wasn’t arrested it would be a pretty boring documentary.

I had just gone to look up the linky. The Family is on backorder (my Amazon order was canceled by the merchant for that reason), but if you want a pretty good rundown on the whole thing, this is a great article — I’m about halfway through it.

On edit: these C Street denizens aren’t gonna have much credibility left.

Republicans don’t want government to work and certainly want Obama to fail. They get themselves elected and consistently prove the point that government doesn’t work. Mission accomplished.
