Because all of the people who take to the streets will miss a day at work so they then miss a insurance payment and then they lose what healthcare they do have. See how that works?

It’s called fear and the corporations use it VERY effectively.

The only solution is public finance of elections. Take the special interest money out of politics and “We The People” take back our government. Then we might have a chance to get healthcare that works, and taxes paid by big business, and (here’s one that will get someone killed) Retake control over monitary policy in America from the Fed.

Until politicians stop having to take checks from big business they ARE owned by those who provide the money for re-election.

If progressives are smart, they will not buy into the watered-down bills being produced in the different committees. They should stand for Wyden’s version or single payer. Get the Blue Dogs and centrists to take a stand on one side or the other regarding those options. Opposition should mean they get primaried in 2010 on exactly this issue. If Obama had any leadership qualities, he would have made this clear already and that the dates for his arrival in those districts were already penciled in for a real health care reform candidate. Instead, he and Rahm are settling for the piece of sausage approach, that something (and it doesn’t have to be good) comes out of conference so that they can run in 2012 saying they did the best they could and it’ll get fixed in the future. Crisis, as we all know, brings opportunities. The health care reform we want is not going to happen this session, so let’s make it perfectly clear to the voters who the corporate whores and obstructionists are. If the public re-elects them at that point, we deserve the contempt with which our representatives treat us.

i have to admit, i don’t think the congress critters have been listening to their constituents on this actually. i for one will be glad of the chance to talk to some of them.

otoh, i’m convinced beyond the shadow of a doubt that yes, all the republicans, and very possibly the blue dogs, are salivating at the chance to maybe use this to derail whatever obama wants.

of course, if the dems were afraid of harry and louise, maybe they could have been working to give the voters what the voters want, instead of working to give the voters what the insurance companies want.
