- Maybe because 76% want a public plan?
- With Democrats like these…
- Someone tell the Blue Dogs.
- RIP, Frank McCourt.
- Ignoring Cronkite’s legacy.
- Place yer bets.

I hope Governor X gets outed real soon. It will make all the other things go away for awhile on TeeVee.
That 76% minority just doesn’t have proper balance, according to your basic profiteer (no longer to be known as ‘conservatives’).
From the coalition of freshman Democrats from wealthy districts
Thanks for the lecture.
With all the poor people in America, the rich should be happy they are allowed to live.
I have really appreciated the historic deminsion, the pictures around the Cronkite coverage. On the other hand, what about the watch commercial with clips of JFK? Outrage….
I think that one should always be wary of what comes out of a goose’s ass.
ok – that’s it – I’m really gone this time.
But they’re “exceptional,” haven’t you heard?
Mornin’, BT, pups
Yep, figgers that the rich Dems would be pissin’ an’ moanin’ about taxes. Mayhaps we need fewer rich Dems.
Raining like all get out here.
This is the detrius from a discussion by the early crew at Eschaton: we thought we would post it and see if anyone is interested in taking a talking point and expanding. Filkertom wants to create a clearing-house website for such easy to agree on principles – for both activists and newbies.
(And none of this is written in stone – Monday Morning thinking out loud I guess)
1. A rational policy in Afghanistan. The deaths are escalating and no one appears to have a plan to get the world involved or what,EXACTLY, we are trying to achieve there. I am tired of wars.
2. A rededication to American values in the spending of our money.
3.We badly need universal healthcare at a reasonable cost.
4. We need trade policies that are designed to stimulate job growth – not protectionism, just realistic responses.
5. We need to cut the military hardware people WAY back and start having a plan for asymmetrical warfare that is both functional and practical
6. We NEED (as a nation) to investigate the shit done in our name and prosecute those who knowingly and willingly broke the law.
7. We need to have unions supported and the rights of workers strengthened.
8. A national energy policy that is geared toward both conservation and exploitation of alternative fuels as well as providing for an extensive, reasonably priced, and sustainable mass transit system(s) that will serve the nation as an alternative to either flying or driving.
9. Openness and honesty in our government and its functioning.
10. Reapportionment to make ALL congressional districts competetive: this will strengthen the “peoples” hands. These gerrymandered monstrosity have to go.
11. An economic policy that reflects the new reality of this country: the Midwest can no longer afford to subsidize the South and West. In fact, it is probably time for the opposite to happen.
12. A much stronger emphasis on educating the next generation for the jobs that will make the above happen, and on education in general.
13. A dedication to the idea that it is a good thing to take care of other people, and to clean up the damn planet.
14. A full rebuild of our manufacturing, communication, energy, and transportation infrastructures, with the above philosophies in mind.
15. A downplaying of the influence of religion on public policy, reflecting the fact that, no matter how many people in this nation are Christian of one stripe or another. not all of them are, and they should not be forced to the various flavors of grey-area moral code “values” of the majority.
16. We need to have all people treated within the law and traditions of the Constitution – no discrimination on any group of people for any reason whatsoever.
17. As all individuals in this country are blessed with its bounty, there must be a rational construct applied to compensation by means of a tax code that reflects the goals of a nation, not the elevation of individuals.
Mornin’, pups -
Have been checking back on the comments section of that “editorial” sanford wrote in the SC paper yesterday. Kinda amazed that there still aren’t more than a handful of positives. For some reason, the paper’s counter isn’t working and I didn’t count them because toward the end it became more people responding to each other vs. the editorial content. How he’s keeping his job with those responses to his actions/attitude is beyond understanding. :-(
The well heeled are mostly isolated and only let some of the “poor” work for them doing all the domestic things which are beneath them. Poor folks only see the wealthy on the tele. Can’t take out rage against the rich on tele very well.
Nice list. For any one to work, they all need to be implemented simultaneously. Otherwise, the faulty part will undo the repairs done to the whole.
1. I am also tired of wars, but the politicians and the arms merchants never tire of them.
The war machine is way way to powerful inside of DC and they are calling the shots and why we see every problem with some sort of military solution or presentation of military strength. It the marriage of the corporation with the state getting their interests aligned… ain’t it?
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
US KIA Irak: 4327
US KIA Afghanistan: 742
How Many More?
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
It started under LBJ and was institutionalized by Nixon/Kissenger. The military-industrial complex warned of by Eisenhower has had a stranglehold on DC since Nixon.
Thank you. I was amazed that this list is something that I believe MOST people could abide by. It all seems so simple.
(And contrary arguments just do not bear measuring.)
The rich tire of wars only if they have to actually fight in them. Start sending the sons and daughters of the rich and things could change but then the rich just might see it as a sacrifice they have to make to protect their position of power and priviledge.
It’ll never happen. During the early stages of the Vietnam War, the Selective Service drafted everyone, EXCEPT the sons of the wealthy who got college deferments. To defuse the antiwar movement, Nixon had the system changed to make the draft more “equitable.” As the war wound down, the draft was abolished, replace by the all-volunteer military, which is dependent on the bottom layers of our society being crushed economically, to provide a constant supply of cannon fodder.
The initial, greatest, and most long standing opposition to the war came from college students. State colleges weren’t the preserve of the rich.
You are correct. College students were Nixon’s greatest torment. State colleges certainly weren’t the preserve of the rich, but as long as the Selective Service honored college deferments, ANYONE with money, including students with SAT scores well below 800, were able to avoid the draft by enrolling in any of the pretend colleges that dotted the South.
And I will be posting the list at the cab later, looking for comments. Yes, even tho I have an attitood about lists.
Why not put up a diary?
