I’ve heard someone tell a clerk at a local store that Obama was going to MAKE every service member swear an oath to him and not the Constitution. I don’t normally get into politics where I live, because it is clearly Wingnuttia Land, but I couldn’t let this pass. I explained that the Air Force Times ran an article debunking the whole thing not long before. His wife was happy to hear the truth, but he clearly wasn’t. You are so true. I just finished reading Andrei Cherny’s “The Candy Bombers, the Untold Story of the Berlin Wall” and am reading William L. Shirer’s “Berlin Diary”. Wow, it has been a powerful reminder how close we came to the brink during the Bush years.

Another book that really struck home was “First American: The Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin” by H.W. Brands. It is no surprise that someone like Franklin, who put money in an account that would make a final payout of several million dollars for two states and two cities 200 years down the road, would detail just the issues we have put up with for the last eight years. We would be very pleased with Firedoglake and its defense of our freedoms and not surprised, but disappointed, with the current Republican party.

Wouldn’t it just make more sense if they stood up and truthfully said “I will not accept a black man as my president!” – at least they’d only look half crazy instead of all the way gone.

One way to answer them is to remind them about background checks before anybody can get a security clearance. The FBI would never have given him a security clearance without checking his citizenship and that of his family. I know it’s hopeless to try and convince them, but it is spreading and it could get out of hand.

Looking for Dan Rather’s birth certificate.

They claim that it isn’t the original certificate – they want the actual physical one issued when he was born, not the official one that the state provides, even though that official copy is the only one that anyone ever gets. Idjits.

Some of them get all het up because it says ‘certificate of live birth’ instead of ‘birth certificate’. (There’s also certificates of stillbirth, but he wouldn’t have one of those.) Idjits.

Some of them are absolutely certain that he was born in Kenya, even though the certificate is from Hawai’i and there’s at least two newspaper announcements of his birth from Hawai’ian papers. Idjits.

The problem of Obama’s birth certificate has been solved. All he needs to do is stuff it in a baggie and attach a flag. Then the birthers will all know that he’s an American citizen. That baggie is obviously the missing link in proving legality.

For the record, Hawaii became a state in 1959.
