One of the most amusing genres of wingnut writing is the "it was cool somewhere on the planet today which proves Al Gore is lying" post. Nate Silver had a funny take on this yesterday (also noted by Thers), in response to this Assrocket post.
Silver, unlike Assrocket, actually bothered to look up the temperatures and it turns out that, surprise!, Assrocket was completely wrong about the weather in his own city. Oh well.
Undeterred by that rather embarrassing exchange, the non-partisan liberatarian Putz jumped to Assrocket’s defense.
OKAY, I STEPPED OUTSIDE A LITTLE WHILE AGO, and it was actually a bit chilly. In Knoxville, in mid-July. My dad says it hasn’t broken 90 all summer, which may be right. I’m saving real money on A/C bills this year. Could be worse — could be Michigan.
Meanwhile, Nate Silver says it’s all in your mind. Two thoughts: (1) I hope so — better that than living in a John Ringo novel. (2) Just remember Nate’s stuff when the press is yammering on about a hot day, or a hurricane, being “caused by global warming.”
So Nate mocks wingnuts for ignoring hard data in favor of rather shallow, subjective observations, and Putz responds with "Nate Silver is clearly wrong about the weather in Minneapolis because it’s chilly in Knoxville today and additionally, my dad said something that I haven’t bothered to verify–Heh." Priceless.
And naturally, Father of Putz was wrong — the temperature in Knoxville exceeded 90 four times last month.
But why let actual facts get in the way of some good old fashioned climate change denial, gratuitous media bashing and — wait for it –
My tomatoes aren’t doing well, either. I don’t know that that says much about the global temperature, but you can bet if it were unseasonably hot we’d be hearing that it’s a vindication of Al Gore.
…the obligatory swipe at Al Gore.
"Global warming" is SOOOOO FAKE!1!! Suck it, libtards!

Wait. MI is fine!! Chilly. But my potatoes are going crazy, my corn is chest high, and my squash is taking over the neighborhood.
I did, however, pick the wrong summer to try to grow okra.
Hey, Al Gore is from Nashville, and it’s 74 here right now!
My currently moribund blog is called Clotheslineblog. It’s an antidote to the Power Line dudes. Our tagline: “No power, but at least our linen’s clean.” Not blog whoring. Well, maybe I am, but that’s not the point. The down-in-the-Dartmouth guys are insufferable. Always.
Completely untethered by facts. Undeterred by logic, unhinged by science, unafraid to lie.
What a world they inhabit.
“Moran” America at it again, I see. The whole idea of global warming is that the weather patterns change drastically. What are Assrocket and Instatwit going to say when it’s breaking 80 degrees in Minneapolis in December? Idiots.
I also like how wingnuts are missing the point of Nate’s bet, which is that they don’t know what an “average” is.
No takers so far, alas.
If by “doing well” he means his tomatoes aren’t setting, that is often becuase it was too hot early in the season. And apparently it was above 90 in June, which I imagine is early in the growing season for that part of the country. I checked a Tennessee produce blog and looks like June 15 to Oct is the season there (what a savage unearthly country it is there!). Anyway, if he put them in late and was too hot during blossom time, he gets a lousy crop. Maybe everthing GIGO with these dudes. Who knows.
Talk about creating your own reality. Truly American idiots.
Real Scientific results! My ass these guys couldn’t understand a boil on their ass! They would blame it on the Librul Media!!
Not an intelligent person among them Why do you think only 6% of Scientist are Repuke??
Because those that are are nothing but
Corporate SHILLS paid for the piece of paper they got in college but never really pursued True SCIENCE! Repeatable results and Peer Review of your work. They are losers! They will say No Global Warming when the ocean swallows their home with them in it!!
Instaputz:
Blart, blart, ha ha! I can talk and people respond to what I say with “Amen brother!!1!1″ or “moran!” I am impPORtent thay even stay in SUNDAY MORNING WHEN WE SOULD BE WORSHOPING TEH LORD to coment on me.
Yup. We had a week of upper 90s in June, though I suspect the real reason his tomatoes haven’t done well is the decade-long drought we’ve been having in the Twin Cities. Last winter was the first time in a long time we had anything close to normal winter snowfall, and even with that we’re still seven to eight inches below normal in the precip department this year so far. (Oh, and it also helps if you fertilize the buggers and don’t plant them too closely.)
“The plural of ‘anecdote’ is not ‘data’” is a popular phrase in scientific circles. Assrocket and crew show why.
So if I stick my head out the window and then post about it on the internet, does that make me a climate scientist?
Watching Christy Hardin Smith take the other powerline guy to the cleaners, factually and logistically, on Washington Journal remains one of the happier experiences of my life.
If we’re wrong about climate change and make the investment to mitigate it, what’s the down-side? A cleaner environment and a new economy built on renewable/alternative energy.
But what if they are wrong? What’s their upside?
That’s easy. Saving capitalism from the evils of socialism/collectivism.
